It doesn’t suit their theme and they don’t need it either.
Also, stop comparing GW1 with GW2.They are games in the exact same universe. In certain issues I agree, but in issues of flavor and lore, no. If someone made a Star Wars game where “good” Jedi started Force choking and lightning-ing people, there would be issues, because it goes against what has been.
It makes no sense that the class based on punishment and attrition lacks the best offensive condition at punishment and attrition. Especially when we had this exact same mechanic in not only multiple skills, but multiple extremely popular builds (SS builds were one of the most common builds throughout GW1). Its absolutely stupid that multiple core mechanics of Necros in GW1 didn’t make it through, and this is one of them.
The lore and the universe have nothing to do with the gameplay.
What makes you think Necromancers are based on punishment and attrition? If anything, that role belongs to Mesmers.
THEY have confusion, THEY have counters, THEY have deceptive abilities.
I recommend it, it looks cool as hell.
Depending on your thief, of course.
I like the idea of projectile-reflect, but maybe it would be too strong.
How about just increasing the dodge duration?reflect would be too OP. because effect of the projectile is being reflected as well.
i.e. if ranger’s knockback hits it projectile reflect shield, then user will be knocked back. You can test it on Earth Elemental mobs since they have such shield and such rules applied to it.
Yes, I believe I know how reflects work.
Charr, because Ash Legion.
Need I say more?

I love the idea. Anet plz.
Here’s my advice:
Instead of pretending to know everything about both classes and blaming the game because you’re losing to something, maybe actually learn to play better and overcome the difficulties with your own abilities.
In general, thieves usually counter mesmers. That’s just the way it is. That doesn’t make it unfair. Mesmers usually counter other classes.
Do you use a power build on your Engineer? If so, share it.
Sorry, but I don’t agree.
Thieves have a play style that revolves around avoiding being hit. The counter-attack nature of your rework just doesn’t suit them.
I agree that it’s a bit too long and annoying at 0.5.
Even as a thief, however, I agree that you should not be able to cast it while stunned/dazed.
I wasn’t aware that having a condition cleanse makes you completely invulnerable to conditions forever.
/sarcasm
It doesn’t suit their theme and they don’t need it either.
Also, stop comparing GW1 with GW2.
It’s not the same. Clones are the Mesmer’s unique profession mechanic, stealth is a mechanic that all professions can utilize (some only through allies).
Though thieves have much easier access to stealth, it’s not their unique profession mechanic. Stealing is.
- Stealth traps
- “Sic’ Em!”
- AoE damage
- Interrupt stealth cast (all skills but blinding powder that give stealth have a cast time.)
May I also add:
- A brain
This thread gave me cancer
I wouldn’t really use them on my mesmer, but I like them and I think it’s great that ANet is experimenting with new stuff.
It’s not very noobie-friendly, but any experienced player will know what to do to counter it. It’s mostly used for stomping warriors/rangers etc anyway. (except for stealthing, ofc)
It’s good for putting pressure on the enemy. You shouldn’t use it immediately after stealing it.
After you stealth and backstab, an enemy will usually expect you to play defensively until your Revealed debuff is gone.
I recommend that on your second stealth-backstab, you continue the combo with Whirling Axe. This will most likely surprise the enemy. Don’t hesitate to stop the whirling axe if you get in trouble, though.
It also depends on the kind of enemy you’re facing, of course. If they’re kinda squishy with half health, using whirling axe will most likely drop their HP by a lot without giving them much time to react.
It’s also great for quickly dispatching of downlevelled enemies or squishies without having to waste intiative.
10/10 would read again.
I love my “Hobo sacks”, actually.
To be honest, I’m not sure why you would make a character that you know suit the profession.
I understand that you probably really wanted to make a sylvari and you also really wanted your main( or whatever) to be an engineer, but you really need to consider that every class has its cosmetic features.
You don’t hear my complain about my necromancer having green particles or a scythe shadow thingie on my staff. Or complaining that my Ranger’s most efficient pet is ugly. Or that I don’t like the fire element on my Elementalist because it doesn’t match the colour of his suit. Or that I want purple energy fields for my guardian and blue particles on my mesmer. You get my drift.
A magic effect or a pet is NOT a kit that is ductaped to your avatar´s back, covers up most of it(and removes your existing backpiece (if you got one) and your equipped weapons in the process), makes you constantly stare at it all time and most likely clashes all the time with your armor colours. A kit could be considered a part of your armor and your weapon at the same time. So how does your necro staff look? Still like your starter staff? Or how does your ranger pet look? Still the starter? No? Of course you dont complain.. you CAN change it. Magic effects are designed so that they look powerfull regardless of the level…while the engineer kits look weak and like the most basic equipment you can get. While your engineer levels up.. gets better armor and firearms or shields the kits remain the bare bones of basic.. heck you cant even colour it so that it fits with your choice of armor colour. THAT is the issue.
Either you didn’t read my post carefully, or you didn’t understand.
I’m talking about all the cosmetic animations/effects/particles/models that is unique to every class and mandatory if you’re planning on using a specific spec, not the EQUIPMENT I PERSONALLY CHOOSE.
If you play a bear Ranger, you’ll need to use a bear (duh).
If you play a Staff Necro, you’ll have green stuff everywhere.
If you play a Guardian, you’ll have blue particles and flames.
If you play a Mesmer, you’ll have purple particles and effects.
If you play an Elementalist, you’ll have Fire, Water, Electricity and Earth animations and particles.
If you play a Thief, you’ll have black/grey animations.
If you play a Longbow Warrior, you’ll have fire and smoke animations and particles.
AND IF YOU PLAY A KIT ENGINEER, YOU’LL HAVE KITS. DEAL WITH IT.
Either choose a class/appearance that matches the MANDATORY effects that EACH CLASS has, or don’t whine about it.
With the same logic, we should be able to change almost every cosmetic aspect of our classes. What if I want my Mesmer to have a green color theme? The purple animations would look terrible on her. Oh, I know, I’ll make a forum thread to request the option to change my particles’ colors!
I’d like to join as a student!
I’m on EU, Whiteside Ridge.
I don’t feel like fear suits the Mesmer’s theme, personally.
As a skill I guess it would be nice to have, but I’m the kind of guy who considers looks before gameplay :P
Hah! Like some changes could ever separate me from my favorite build.
Hopefully the fights will drag on for a little longer now, that would be fun.
Why do people think LA will be rebuilt?

I don’t really want LA to be gone forever.
It is like the place you can always return to… I’ll miss it if it’s permanently gone.

As a PU Mesmer who gets 3-shotted by a Longbow Ranger at 1500 range, I have to say yes.
I suggest using D/D when levelling, since it deals more damage overall.
S/D is better when you need more mobility and control, so you should use it in more challenging content. Levelling is somewhat easy, so a full damage spec would be better.
Please don’t come later whining about Thief being too weak, mmk?
I would prefer giving the clones more movement speed when using mind wrack, so they get to their target more easily.
Elementalists probably have the highest burst/DPS potential out of all classes, but at the same time are the squishiest.
If you want to play a glasscannon (I guarantee you’ll be dealing more DPS than a thief), you should either use Staff or Scepter (in PvP).
Also, please don’t expect that you know everything about playing a class so soon. It takes time and practice to get better.
If you prefer something more survivable, I suggest D/D with 0/10/0/30/30.
Rush is much slower and more predictable.
It’s a high-risk/high-reward skill, unlike RTL.
Also, you can’t really judge the skills individually. They’re part of a different kit, therefore have different roles and uses.
P/D power build. I’ve tried it, and I love it. It doesn’t sound like it works, but it does. The only problem is the lack of escape-ability that I’m still trying to tweak. Trust me, folks get a little surprised when they see a P/D thief approach and suddenly strike for 9k using Shadow Strike.
“Isn’t that a condition weapon set?” I often hear.
If you’re gonna use a pistol main hand for a power build, wouldn’t it be more useful to just use P/P?
I agree with Requiem. If you’re feeling too safe, it means you’re not kittening off enough people.
Thanks for the reply, your advice will definitely help.
I think I just need to practise with a patient group and lots of repair money!
Your videos are also helpful (and quite impressive)
So PvP should get new maps but when WvW gets a new map it’s unacceptable
Hey, I started using your D/F build.
Previously I was using D/D with a bit of survivability (Knight/Berserker gear and 30 points in Water) and I’m having trouble with the transition to full glasscannon.
I die really often in dungeons now, since most champions can now one-shot me. Do you have any tips to help me with that, besides learning to dodge better? (I’m working on that)
I’m assuming the Elementalist you met was using a scepter. The air attument’s autoattack is a continuous electrical discharge.
I had fun using D/D while levelling, but it’s really up to you. Just use the weapon you have most fun with.
I was interested in Scarlet from the start and enjoyed everything she threw at us. I HONESTLY don’t get what all the hate is about.
The best part about the story content we got is the insight we got to all these characters we’ve been following around and fighting with, IMO.
I really enjoyed every part of the new instance and I’m hoping we’ll get more of them.
Am I the only one using F1 on my Ranger or what?
You can also stack might with D/D well.
I’ve traited into Arcana to get the free spells at the end of my dodge.
Basically it’s Burning Speed > Ring of fire > Earth attunement dodge > Earthquake > Churning earth
You get 9 stacks from that. I also use Arcane Wave in that combo, so it’s 12 stacks with it.
It’s not as good as scepter, since you can’t move freely while using the combo, but I’d say it’s easier to hit enemies with it if you start with lightning attunement knockback. Of course, hitting enemies in PvE isn’t really that much of a problem, which is why people prefer the Scepter, I’m assuming.

I believe it’s a good idea, but badly executed. ANet tried make a cool skill, but didn’t consider how it would actually work in a normal situation in-game.
I was absolutely convinced on using a healing build for my engineer when he got to 80, but then I realized grenades are insanely fun.
Maybe I’ll use this build in PvP though, thanks for posting
I find it incredibly pointless to go on “exile” from a game because you’re not satisfied of your profession’s state.
I mean, really. It’s a game. If you’re not gonna play it, you’re only punishing your self.
From what I’m reading, you found the game amazing and then quit because you had more and more expectations from it.
Personally, I really like the living story. It’s everything I’d expect from a constantly changing world. If you don’t like it, I’m afraid this isn’t the game for you.
You really shouldn’t melee the wurm unless you’re level 80.
IMO, it’s viable. Everywhere.
blah blah blah blah
I’m confused. Were you not whining about the Thief all along?
…Yup I wasn’t, I was being sarcastic…
You’re bad at being sarcastic
All they have to do is remove all the exploiting (skipping, stacking etc) and people will realize that the meta is more than just glasscannons.
Uh, may I ask why you have 1 rune of divinity and 5 runes of the fighter?
I also think that getting Quickening thirst instead of mark of evasion is more useful.
