Tell you what; If I actually do it, I’ll announce that I’m using a condition build in the map chat and I bet that more than one person harasses me for it, making the “elitist” side unethical.

Bearbows.. bearbows everywhere

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Axelwarrior.9084

Brown bears can remove conditions often and rangers don’t have alot of condition removal abilities. Bears also have by FAR the highest health, and pets and minions are screwed in pvp/boss fights by the red rings and aoes everywhere, so having a pet that can survive for awhile helps. A cat or bird that’s dead instantly isn’t doing more damage than a bear that keeps plugging along. The longbow part is just.. its a ranger. People make rangers to use bows for the most part. Sure it isn’t always the optimal weapon in every scenario but it has one of the only AoE attacks on a weapon that rangers get, and can be traited to have 1500 range so its good for wvw. Also has a stealth and a knockback for some general defense and rapid fire is one of the hardest hitting of all weapon skills for a ranger. Note I don’t use bearbow myself, just playing devils advocate and listing some reasons others might play this way, it doesn’t necessarily mean they are braindead or anything.

Correction: rapid fire is one of the weakest of all weapon skills for a ranger.

In PvP/WvW it’s your main source of damage while using Longbow. Also, the burst is scary, especially when using Quickening Zephyr.

Now, on the topic of this thread, I’d say they use it because it’s easy to learn, safe and fun to use.

“We’ve gotten a lot of positive feedback from our playtesters,” Bearce says. “Pretty much as soon as we threw this in for testing, our internal playtesters said, ‘This has to go on Live.”

Either they did not catch the sarcasm in playtesters voice, or they should really consider getting new playtesters…

No sarcasm, they were serious and Skyhammer is a great map.
In the WvW side they have a map just like Skyhammer, Edge of the Mists, a huge success just like Skyhammer.

Skyhammer just makes those skilled players shine even more because it takes a lot more skills to be great at Skyhammer because its a huge skill increase due to more utilities being used, positioning, more aspects of the game to consider than just dpsing someone to death.

About 4-5 times a game I toss Elixir S, break a plate, and toolkit pull someone to there death. Doesn’t matter who it is. I’ve killed just about every top NA player doing it.

It’s not skill.

Well, then, avoiding that takes skill.
I love Skyhammer, I wish we’d get more maps like it.

Why RNG-only skins are bad

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Axelwarrior.9084

Axelwarrior.9084

Why not? I would seriously like to hear your reasoning behind the logic that led you to this belief. (BTW, you can actually obtain a Legendary within minutes of completing the the tutorial if you have the gold to purchase one, so RNG is NOT the only factor).

If there’s no RNG, then how would loot be decided? And what would happen to Magic Find?
To purchase a Legendary, someone had to craft it with the precursor, which he looted or bought from someone who looted it, therefore RNG is involved in the making of EVERY Legendary.

You can’t have a game without RNG, but it should not be a factor in acquiring significant end-game goals (In this case, legendaries).

http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=-c;4Rw-1-J5R-Fd0;9;5TT9;205B49A5;3INl6L;9;0FS-A-6N

I was too lazy to add them, but the gear is full Berserker (except for a few Valkyrie and Cavalier pieces, but that’s just my preference).
There are also a few changes you can make, such as changing Fleet Shadow for Mug or Side Strikes for Furious Retaliation. If you’re having trouble with conditions, change Patience or Infusion of Shadow for Shadow’s Embrace.
The utility skills are also up to you, but I find those to be the most useful in every situation in WvW roaming.

Here are a few tips from my experience:

  • Always try to deduce what kind of opponent you’re facing from his signets, nourishment and weapons. With experience, you’ll learn to find the best target in a group of enemies and avoid fighting dangerous match-ups.
  • When there’s a corner or wall nearby, you ckittene it to Heartseeker through your Blinding Powder 4 times instead of 3.
  • Don’t panic. If you’re having difficulty against an opponent, remain calm. If you lose your patience, you’re bound to make a mistake. Just play smart and remember that you can escape easily from a fight with Shadow Refuge and/or your Shortbow.
  • Know your opponents. The better you know the enemy’s class, the more prepared you are for the fight.
  • Wait for the right moment to strike. Just rushing into a group of enemies randomly will make you lose your advantage as a thief. You can, however, go in briefly, have them attack you so you can figure out their playstyles/builds and then escape.

If you spend almost all your time in WvW, that shows you have little experience in PvE.
You’re possibly one of the few cases the stupid “5k plus AP” rule works with LFG. Its purpose is to filter out the inexperienced players and you are one of them (in dungeons).

I suggest making your own LFG or joining a guild

GW2: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Axelwarrior.9084

THE BAD

  • No WvW Support — it seems they wanted to include some sort of WvW in this game, and yet do not want to offer anything in the way of bug fixes, balance, and content updates to help support the format

Could you specify what kind of bug fixes, balance and content updates you’re talking about?

  • Super-easy PvE Content — this is a bad thing. There really isn’t a single thing in the PvE side of the game that offers a significant challenge, thus making the content go stale quickly and negating the importance of skill

I’d say that soloing dungeons is pretty challenging.

  • No Sense of Wonder — while the world looks good and plays (mostly) smoothly, there isn’t really anything to draw you in and immerse you in the world. It is a sort of x-factor that is tough to describe. Either you have it or you don’t.

This is very subjective. I personally find the world very interesting and immersive.

THE UGLY

  • Megaserver — so something had to be done, I guess, about declining server populations, but this update was seemingly rushed out the door with 0 consideration given to how it would impact the community. News update: it had a profoundly negative impact.

The megaservers have not only brought disaster. With them, it is much more fun to level, explore and do events. I personally haven’t felt any of the negative effects on World Bosses, so I won’t comment on that.

  • Lack of Meaningful Interaction — more and more, this game seems to reward players for becoming another faceless portion of a big blob of players rather than actually giving individuals and small groups something to strive for.

That’s one way to look at it. I prefer to see it as players grouping together to fight for a common cause. I’d say that dungeons and fractals are meant for what you want? Is there something else you’d like to see?

  • No New Expansions — this may be fixed at some point, hopefully. The Living Story updates are nice and all, but they in no way make up for the need for a real, full-on expansion to the game. Already people are hungry for it, and if they don’t get it then other games out there are going to start looking more and more tempting.

I personally prefer the Living Story.

Phasing out underwater combat

I was really excited with underwater combat when I started playing. I still like the idea, but I think it was badly executed.
Hopefully the reason they’re phasing it out is to have a big overhaul in the future. Not a complete overhaul, just improving some aspects, fixing issues and giving underwater combat a bigger role in the game.

Am I playing Guild Wars 2 wrong?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Axelwarrior.9084

Guild wars 2 provides a lot of options for you while levelling.

You can either

  • explore maps, finishing hearts, getting Vistas, e.t.c.
  • go around doing events
  • play with a group/zerg in WvW
  • play sPvP (to get tomes of knowedge)
  • do your personal story

And the best thing is that, while levelling, you don’t have to commit to a single part of the levelling experience!
You can start exploring and, if you get bored, play a few PvP matches. You can even do them at the same time, since you can join a PvP arena while exploring in PvE! That way, you won’t have to sit in a lobby while waiting for your match to start.

Don’t forget that you can also do dungeons to level. Each explorable mode path grants you almost an entire level. If you’re new with dungeons, however, I recommend finding a few friends to help you learn the dungeons at your own pace, since LFG groups can be quite demanding.

How is making yourself take less damage and making yourself hitting more damage close to the cost of nothing not convenient?

Axelwarrior: “They add up.”

???

Isn’t the lowest amount of gold you can get for any dungeon path ~1g?

It’d take over 100 paths to spend around 1g in potions in most cases, barring a few potions like outlaw slaying and undead slaying that cost slightly more than the others due to how frequent they are used.

You are wrong. There’s no excuse to not use them other than putting no thought into it.

Even if I use 1 copper for a potion and get 1 gold from the path I just ran, I still lost 1 copper. Just because I have more gold than before, it doesn’t mean that I got a potion for free.
If I want to be stingy with my gold, it’s my choice. I don’t care if you don’t agree with it.

Theory: Anet trying to remove WP for Mounts?

in Living World

Posted by: Axelwarrior.9084

Axelwarrior.9084

Answer: No. As we’ve seen, Mordremoth seems to be going after specific waypoints, not all of them (specifically ones closer to ley lines), and Taimi’s already working up a way to protect waypoints from getting snared by it later on.

Mounts, while possibly being a neat thing, would be redundant and unnecessary in this game as is.

Although, the Sonic Tunneling Tool/Witch Broom might work as a substitute for that, if you feel like using gems for those… (shrugs)

The Waypoints we have are all on ley lines, otherwise, like Taimi said, they wouldn’t work.
Specifically, she said the Asura tried placing a lot of waypoints, but only some of them worked (the ones that were on ley lines), so they removed the rest.

Personally, I think that in a casual run (and by that I mean not a record-setting speed run or a solo), potions and food are unnecessary. They might give you a small boost, but in the end you don’t really need them.
Saving a few minutes off a run isn’t that big of a deal for me. I’d rather just keep my gold.

Spends hundreds of gold on ascended armor and weapons for a 5-10% dps boost.

Won’t spend 25 silver on a 20% dps boost.

Makes total sense.

Totally.

First of all, I don’t have ascended armor and weapons.
Second of all, I only have to buy armor once, but I need a different potion for every dungeon, every day. They add up. Also, ascended equipment isn’t only useful for dungeons, but also for WvW and world events.

Think before you speak and make fun of others.

I mainly play WvW with my thief and I’m using stealth-heavy builds there, but I know those aren’t viable in Conquest.

I tried using a D/P build with 2/6/0/0/6, but I didn’t seem to do enough damage and I was dying very easily. I also tried 5/6/0/0/3, but that didn’t work well either.
The only build that I seem to do well is a P/P glasscannon, but it’s like I can feel the cold stares of my teammates whenever I use it ._.

Any suggestions?
