Why? Because people are willing pay for it at that price. Yes, without even knowing what they’re getting. In case you don’t know, there’s a famous saying attributed to P.T. Barnum . . . which he actually didn’t say.
You might want to look into it.
So everyone who disagrees with you and felt that it was worth the price is a sucker?
In my opinion, they’re better off scrapping the entire server system for WvW and do a type of 3-way faction thing. Something like a cross of ESO and Factions.
Really bad idea on many levels
Yeah because fighting the same people over and over is going so well. Allowing for a mass server change won’t fix that as you’re not dealing with the source of the issue.
Lol you dont get it do you.
What you have suggested is just EOTM. So if that is what you want, you know where it is.
No. EotM is what it is because of the relative close points to cap and that it offers no incentive to defend. There’s no difference between winning and losing. If it was part of the regular WvW maps in place of the copy and pasted borderlands, you’d see a much different map than you do currently.
Support roles get rewarded the same as DPS roles, Condition Damage Roles etc but all roles are required to do some sort of damage to at least one enemy in order to get a reward. This is for both Dynamic events & PvP.
Perhaps more context is needed in your post for me to fully understand what you mean precisely, but as a general rule, you only need one or two hits per mob or enemy player, and you get credit on their death, which equals reward whatever your role is.
He’s going under the assumption that since Revenant apparently have defined roles based on the legend used, the entire system in the game that tracks participation should be overhauled to give players who want to heal the zerg the entire fight credit for the event.
And to add onto what I said, the OP doesn’t understand the impact his suggestion would have. It would require an overhaul in the participation tracking like I mentioned but also require an overhaul in how scaling is done.
Can you actually do that? Can the revenant actually spend 100% uptime purely putting out heals without damaging anything? Or is there downtime where they have no choice but to wait and attack. Legitimately asking I didn’t play the rev more than a few minutes this weekend. Because if they can’t, then they’re going to get credit by attacking during downtime.
Not sure. I figured his post was brought on by the beta weekend and the beta test. It came off as he was suggesting full support and not a hybrid doing both.
So, buy the cheapest precursor off the TP and exchange it via the mystic forge for the most expensive one? Sounds like a plan!
Ha! That’s exactly what I was thinking when I read his post.
Even if the topic was already created, it’s still good to point out A.net’s mistakes!
Maybe after 2500 responses of angry players they will rethink the release of HoT!Maybe they will even make a cheaper version of the expansion without the original game! I still hope so and whatever they will say about it (‘’no we are not going to sell another version’‘) I won’t buy the pre-released—>only the final release in 2016 when HoT will maybe get close to be almost ready !
They will release a cheaper version…. well after its release. Or you can wait and buy the expansion after HoT and get both for $25. Or you can wait and buy the expansion after that and get both for $16.67. The longer you wait, the more you save!
Right aggregate population; you don’t think there is a problem when one person get 15 precursors & others get 0 ?
No. It all has to do with probability and they’re just one of the outliers. I haven’t heard of people getting 15 from drops, so if that number isn’t an exaggeration, then most of them liking came from the MF.
Are you sure supports get as much credit as you think? I’ve run a pure support paladin with zergs across maps, world bosses and the edge-of-the-mist borderland.
I found that on many targets, even those that took ages to take down, the damage I did wasn’t enough to qualify me for loot. Wacking that wurm for 30 seconds straight with a healing mace doesnt seem to meet the “tag” requirements.
I eventually gave up support in favor of a tanky necro and my zerk warrior which seem to qualify for far more loot in passing.
Ran SW for fun with a healer ele and never had issues. The test with rev and that was it with my pure support testings.
But what I did is with a lvl 40 engi in lvl 35 gear doing the lvl 47 Modniir WB event just 3 or 4 weeks ago.
I got the champion bag for fighting Modniir the first time (before the main fight), from two of the war beasts and after that the reward chest for defeating Modniir. No I was not in a party.
It was pretty hard as most hits I made were glancing, but it summed up obviously to get the credit.
However there is something else messing with us.
For example the Caledon Worm.
My ele is full zerker glass build and sometimes I don’t get credit for killing the three stooges before the worm appears. And believe me that build is made for nuking and I know how to do it.So I don’t know what’s going on here and it doesn’t make sense that you missed out on getting credit. Even my noob engi did it.
Something else is going on here.
You don’t get credit for killing the individual champs or for the event they’re part of? The event itself is based on kills so you have to kill the trash mobs with them to get credit.
Thats cute.
Try 7000+ hours. No precursor drop.
that sucks I’m at 4877 & still not one kittenin drop.
So if I AFK in LA for 8K hours then that means I am due a precursor soon? Hours alone have no direct correlation as I have already stated. It has more to do with what you actually do in the game. Someone who levels 12+ characters is less likely to get a precursor as someone who farms and spends their earnings on the MF. It has been widely theorized that the bulk of precursors come from the MF.
You also need to take a look of the drop rate on an aggregate level across the population. Almost anything you do in the game has a chance for a precursor. If the rate were increased, supply would dramatically increase as well.
In all respect that’s bullcrap. This ll relate too the fact that th RNG sucks in this game.
When I’m in game I play & only with my level 80 characrter. Not sitting Idly in lion arch, looking at TP.One of my guildies got more than 15 precursor from mystyc forge alone, then to add insult to injuries he got another on his secondary account that was just 100 hours new.
I got another guildies that already dropped 3 precursors in fractals & she plays less than me.
Yep and your situation relates to the second part of by post. With the expansion, all of this won’t really matter anymore anyway.
You weren’t 100% heal as you had to have gotten kill credit off something so your participation was applied towards the meta event.
well you have to hit stuff in order for the revenant to drop his HP orbs. with 100% I meant my gear and traits. a better wording would have been max heal. you also need to hit stuff in order to fuel your energy bar which in return fuels your skills.
So I don’t see a way not getting credit.
Yep that would explain how. However, if a moderate number of people showed up to timed events such as Teq, VW, or TT with the role as yours, how successful would the events be? They can build those type of roles in future events but applying it to current ones would requiring a reworking of several systems.
I read somwhere recently that the record was something about ~30h.
Yep.

A lot of it has to do with doing it efficiently which there are maps for.
Anyone complaining that they have x hours played and still no pre drop was under the mistaken impression that they had a reasonable chance of ever getting one to drop.
How many people here have played WoW? Did you ever have a bind on equip epic drop for you out in the open world? I never did. And I never expected to. It’s the same with precursors. If you expect to, don’t. It’s like expecting to win the lottery.
More like there’s no direct correlation between hours played and precursor drops.
In a strictly theoretical long term sense, there is a correlation between hours played and number of precursor drops, but because the drop rate is so low, the correlation is hard to see. For it to become readily evident on your own account, you’d need to play for hundreds of thousands if not millions of hours (more than a life time). This is why I say no one should ever expect to get one.

I actually think what he’s talking about comes from the poi from last week., where Collin said they are bringing support roles into a more defined position in hot. And will quite possibly be required for harder content
I know and most of my post was regarding that with using revenant as an example.

um, I just played a revenant as 100% heal in SW events on the weekend.
I didn’t miss even one reward chest. So what’s the fuzz all about? I don’t get it.
Furthermore open world pve does not require any support roles as it is today.
pure dmg build is the most effective way at the moment.
You weren’t 100% heal as you had to have gotten kill credit off something so your participation was applied towards the meta event. The problem with scaling is that it’s based solely on numbers and not individual builds. If you do Teq with 25% of the people dedicating themselves as healers, you’ll get the same scaling as if everyone was full DPS. The only difference between the two is one has a much more likelihood of failing.

Come on. The deadline for pre-ordring is close to two weeks away and idk what my fave class’s new weapon is yet. How many new maps are we getting? I don’t care that they are multi-layered. It’s not my question. How many maps are in the expansion. Not new cities.
Explorable. Maps. to. play. in.
How many sets of armor can I earn by playing. Weapons? Glider skins?
Is there one of each existing weapon getting at least one new Legendary skin?
How many new collections are there? New exotic skins? New Cultural Armor sets? Are there new additions to the Achievement section? New dyes? New PvP and Borderlands armor and weapon skins exclusive to those formats?
Why should I buy this x-pac when I don’t even know half of what will be in it? What new weapon is Thief getting? Warrior?
It’s not on me to just buy your game. It’s on you to sell it to me. So sell me on it.
That isn’t the deadline to pre-purchase. Everyone has up until the day it releases to do that. Until they announce the release date, you still have plenty of time.
(edited by Ayrilana.1396)
Most likely it will be fine. It’s not going to be like going from XP to Windows 7.
Pre-events take so long either because nobody is doing them or too many people showed up for them and they scaled. From what I remember, only one event would fall under the latter while the rest fall under the former.
Anyone complaining that they have x hours played and still no pre drop was under the mistaken impression that they had a reasonable chance of ever getting one to drop.

That would make WvW meaningless and another EOTM K-Train map.
How would you track your progress?
If new instances are made when the map cap is reached, how will you get back to that instance?
Travelling from on BL to another will make it a pot-luck event of getting to the instance you want.
Any upgrades you have started will become meaningless to you as the instance you go back to might be another one without any upgrades.
Yeah and WvW is as meaningful now as it was when the game launched. I’m sure people just love playing against the same servers each and every week. I’m sure the free world transfers would make it so much more meaningful… or not. You’ll eventually end up with what we have now once things have settled.
My idea wasn’t a full blown idea which was pretty obvious by its length. It was just a suggestion of an alternative that would be better in the long run that simply doing free server changes. I’ve mentioned my idea in more detail in another thread somewhere. That too was just a brief suggestion as I saw no need to give the exact blueprints on how to roll out a new system such as that.

Let me get this straight as veteran player: if I pre-purchase the expansion I will get a free character slot; but if I purchase the expansion after release will I still get that free character slot?
No. It’s only available between now and the release of the expansion.

Price and value are not the same. Because something is priced at zero cost within a bundle marketed towards new players does not mean at has no value.
Did anything change with the recent patch? :|
Unlikely.

Have to disagree that the inclusion of the base game as a “free bonus” is going to benefit new players. How does a new player know they want HoT if they haven’t even played GW2 before? It makes more sense to discount GW2 permanently to about $20 to make it cheap for someone to get into the game. Then they can decide for themselves if they want to keep playing and upgrade to the expansion. Also lets not forget that if someone were to jump straight into HoT content without doing the personal story and the living story they would have no idea what is going on.
You’re thinking like a current player than a new one.
I just here to say… HOW IS NAMED LION ARCH, them no HUGE EPIC AWESOME LION STATUE!… give us a big lion statue again! i dont even like krakens
There is one.
Well looks the only option now is to make that legendary!
I really dislike the new Lions Arch….It was supposed to be a town founded by pirates…nothing bout LA is very ‘Piratey’ anymore. I MISS MY LION FOUNTAIN!
Also, the WP placement is horrid in this city. I used to hang out all the time in LA, but now I just can’t stand going there.
Technically Lion’s Arch was not founded by pirates.
Ignoring personal attacks, common sense advice and blind assumptions there haven’t been many good points made.
Some of the good points are that reflect is simply a fun mechanic and it would be sad to see it go. Which is a valid point. I’d wager it’s the main reason it’s in the game and the main reason it won’t be removed nor changed.
Another was that the upside to projectiles over other ranged attacks is that projectiles can trigger combo fields. Which is also a fair point. I’d rather have un-reflectable, un-destroyable projectiles any day, but it’s still true.
The majority so far have been against the idea and I assume Anet won’t change this anyway because of the fun factor.
But Reflect should still come with a Reflected tell and maybe Rangers should get access to a trait that allows their projectiles be destroyed whenever they’re reflected. At least it’ll be a choice and a trait investment then. Maybe a mastery in the new mastery system.
Also there has to be a stop attack keyboard shortcut. Since pressing esc often doesn’t work the first time and pressing it too many times will remove the target.
Dodge cancels attacks.
Hi Arena,
I find the new Lion’s Arch after a few days after patch 23 June 2015, we have to endure more load screens as there are so too few waypoints and too wide spaces.
But in a non-combat area, its just not practical.
Could Arena look into the following:
- More waypoints
- More Crafting stations at different corners
- More repair stations (near FoTM and WvW)
Because of this New LA designed. I only go LA now for FoTM. Other than that, I do want to avoid the load screens.
The old LA is a lot better designed than the New LA.
Thank you.
There is a repair station by FoTM and WvW it’s an anvil right at the back where you exit from PvP. I like the New LA a lot more. But the merchants seem to be all huddles together. But its good I suppose, it stops players all hanging out in one area, and leaving the rest of the city like a ghost town.
I know where all the repair stations are. THE POINT is LOAD SCREENS! REDUCE THEM. Get ARENA to put some Quality of Life. LA should be improved not just in better paints and scenery. BUT functionality is the other half.
The problem is load screens. Time is precious and looking at the load screens 4 times just to get into a dungeon alone is annoying.
Most of the players are outside of US. Load screen can be annoying it’s like playing “We Save This City” over and over again till you get sick of it.
It’s not hard for them to place waypoints at the right place. If it’s designed right. This should be a step forward from the Destroyed LA. Not two steps backward.
What load screens? I don’t have any load screens when porting while within LA.
Most players outside US? Source? Considering you’re based on BG, an American server, I’d say most players are from the U.S. Longer load times and such are expected if you’re playing from outside of the country that the servers are. Imagine how Australian players feel.
(edited by Ayrilana.1396)
If you see someone throw up reflect, I dunno maybe switch to melee and/or stop shooting for like 5 secs?
Or change locations as most reflect fields are stationary.
So OP complains about the difficulty of getting shards while stating that the same method that players got most of their skill points before the update doesn’t count simply because it’s RNG? Never mind that many players likely never got three skill points per day by leveling on a consistent basis before the update.

Even still. A new profession from HoT should include a character slot so you can play said profession without needing to prepurchase. I seriously doubt HoT will have near as much content as the core game. The core game came with tons of content and plenty of character slots and had cost about the same as HoT.
I will not pay extra to be able to play with new professions and/or playable races. Nor should I have to prepurchase so I can. If I buy an expansion and it comes with professions/races then let me be able to play them without having to buy extra crap!
No expansion has ever had more content than its core game as far as I know. The core game did come with plenty of character slots but not enough to have one of each class. Unlike a new game, an expansion is just adding onto the existing game so there’s no obligation to include free character slots.
I have yet to see anyone present an argument with strong evidence that it required to be included. Many have brought up GW1 except those were standalone campaigns.
Any expansion you buy that has a new profession/race you should not have to pay extra to play that content. That should be included in the original price of $50. Vets who do not prepurchase will have to fork over $60 minimum to play content that originally cost $50. That is wrong wrong wrong. It’s like having to pay a $10 entrance fee to a dungeon/story that came with the expansion but you can’t play it unless you pay that $10.
I disagree with you adding the extra $10 for almost the same reasons as you trying to tack on another $20+ earlier. The $10 extra charge is by player choice so you cannot include it.
It also will not affect all veteran players so including it would be misleading. Players have from now until the day of the expansion’s release to pre-purchase the expansion and get the bonus character slot. You can be certain the majority of veterans will have bought the expansion during that window as is the case with other expansions. There may also be some that have not used up all of their slots. Those that choose to forgo the bonus, and wait until after the release of the expansion, have themselves to blame for needing to spend extra money to get an additional character slot.
Patience guys. Anet will adjust the price for the vets. Just dont pre order this overpriced and unfair expansion. Some vets will waste their money on the pre ordered expansion but on release day there will be an expansion only price, cheaper than this nonsense, because Anet now wants to milk the pre order gw2 fanatics. The intelligent gw2 players are too many for Anet to throw away.
Source?
Common sense
No. You’re only saying it;s common sense because you made up all of that without any proof and thus are unable to provide sources.

To play with the new weapons for current professions will be more additional character slots. No one will want to change skills and traits all the time.
Wow. Judge the value of HoT however you want, but the above is bloody ridiculous.
How do you figure? Who would want to keep switching out traits and skills on their character all the time? For instance changing between a dual sword warrior and changing it into a hammer warrior. Two completely different builds and traits and possibly armor. With the new weapons being added and it changing the professions drastically, switching out skills and traits between two different builds became that much more tedious.
That’s a limitation set by you and not the game. You decided that you don’t want to change out traits/gear. Since those limitations were set by you, you cannot include them in the costs that a player would pay to experience the expansion.
What about one skin from Hall of Monuments? Some of us didn’t play GW1 and doesn’t want to. One skin, though, would make your birthdays meaningful (including altholics with 20+ characters) and rewardable. 1 skin wouldn’t break the game.
Those are exclusive items for those that played GW1. I doubt they would offer those skins to those that didn’t earn the points.
so lets say as a ranger or necro i wont be rejected from dung groups like i was told?
If they’re speed run groups that want specific builds or classes then you could be but for the most part you won’t be kicked.
Some classes are more optimal than others but all are viable for what you mentioned. Choose the class you feel you would have the most fun playing.

Something turning things upside down gives one a whole new perspective. While chilling and reading HoT reactions i noticed just how entitled the ones accusing others of entitlement are.
Many a comment about HoT from it’s defenders were about how we had 3 years of great gameplay and free updates and now we complain about 50$.
Now that’s entitlement. Even if we had 15 years worth of free playtime, that doesn’t mean jack smack kitten to the deal that is the x-pac. A-net doesn’t owe vets anything, true. But they also don’t owe anything to a-net. HoT standard edition costs 50$ and that’s a fact.
That’s the price for expansion. Not “overly long free time fee”, “over the top LS season 1 & 2 costs” or some such. It’s the price for xpac. And therefore it’s the xpac’s size and content that’s being subject of justified scrutiny and no melodramatic “u.o.us” are gonna work. If the xpac is not worth 50$ in players’ eyes they’re not gonna buy it nor are they obliged to.
You can be an awesome baker and make amazing cakes. But just because i ate 50 times at your place already, doesn’t mean i’ll pay full cake’s price for few brownies on my plate which you advertise as “house’s new special”.
Problem is that to play content in HoT it will cost more than just $50. New profession requires 1 character slot. To play with the new weapons for current professions will be more additional character slots. No one will want to change skills and traits all the time. This expansion was made for people to get additional character slots. So on average, if you are a Vet player, this game will cost more like $70 to $80 if you want to play with the new profession content.
Brand new players will be able to play with the new HoT stuff without spending extra. Vet players will have to pay out additional cash to play with the new HoT stuff.
It’s $60 at most if they do not pre-purchase, are out of character slots, and do not buy the slot with gold. The bolded part doesn’t apply as it’s as ridiculous as Anet needing to provide X number of character slots if they add a new playable race.
We saw playable footage of the game months ago and Anet seems more driven to tot this game around the game show circuit than actually releasing it.
We have a stress test coming up and in those notes they say many more are to come in the future for those who pre-ordered. This also means with there vertical slice of content and the fact that it wont be till mid July till they start that one could assume an august release is out too. Seeing how they use a Two week updating schedule and they seemed to imply many stress tests then one could also logically guess september is out.
When you get into October that’s the holiday season and no MMO’s has ever been stupid enough to release an expansion in the holiday buying season as it would just get overlooked and forgotten in the sea of new games being released back to back one after another until January when the season ends.
Hype is dead to be sure as other MMO’s don’t hold there expacs at the end of a carrot milking there consumer base. The other companies announce then release in a reasonable amount of time and pre-orders aren’t done multiple months in advance to further milk the base. The people who pre-ordered will get content and temporary content at that while the rest of us will no doubt get squat in return. No SaB, Bash, or Labrynth Cliffs as there putting all there effort into so called stress tests…
I’ll get the expac whenever it releases I suppose but probably not at launch as if the game isn’t released in 2016 then it will probably get released and instantly forgotten in the midst of the holiday buying season.
You should look at when the WoW expansions were released.
Not the first time someone’s ended up in jail in rata sum; previously it was trying to get to the bottom of the inside of rata sum, but I don’t think that happens anymore.
You could still get to the bottom of Rata Sum (in the inside) with any class. You just needed the fall trait. To get outside of Rata Sum to the land below you just needed to be in the council instance above and drop down. This all still worked back in April. I don’t recall seeing anything since then that would prevent this.
I think you misunderstand. In the early days, if you got to the bottom of the inside of rata sum, in the trenches and such, you were teleported to the prison, much like the video shown here in this thread. Then, one day, that stopped happening. This was over two years ago though, so I don’t recall all the details.
Oh. I don’t remember that happening but I could have first done it after people stopped getting ported. As far as I’m aware, you still can get down there without being ported.
There’s really no fix in my opinion other than to scrap the existing system and start with something new. They are not going to punish off-peak hours players or players that favor a particular server.
My thought, which I have brought up in the past, would be to split people up into factions. Something similar to EotM but without the PvE karma train. The players on the winning faction get weeklong account bonuses such as MF, XP, or something that makes it worth it to win but isn’t too rewarding to overshadow other game modes. Points that factions make on each shard are tallied to determine the winner. They could also do WvW reward tracks where progression is rewarded by actively helping your faction win. This could also be used such that only those that have completed a track get the bonuses.
I like the idea in general and think it would be worth exploring. However, I’ve italicized one portion of the idea. By this sentence, do you mean, “ANet could implement reward tracks where helping your faction win rewards one with WvW progression.”?
I meant progression of the reward track itself. Like how in PvP you get a set amount based on win/loss and time in match. For the WvW, I was referring to objectives suchs as capturing/defending assets, escorting dolyaks, etc. What I was trying to do is make it so that you don’t have a bunch of people farming one particular thing and making it difficult for others to compete (think of the EBG JP before it got moved to their own instance). This way if there’s a flood of PvE players, they’re actually contributing which was an issue with the WvW Season 1 achievements.
Pictures or it never happened.
I guess some people don’t remember the old LA. The distances are almost identical…
People are cheesed that they made LA more user friendly after its destruction, then made it suck again.
What’s funny about that is that people were complaining that it wasn’t as user friendly when when we got the new, destroyed version.
I kinda agree with the OP about A-Net being out of touch. the biggest problem in WvW is most definitely Population / timezone imbalance, by far, leaps and bounds. A new map is also needed as even when fights are even its just stale. They are addressing the map, but that is the secondary issue. I don’t see anything about how HoT will improve life on the low tier servers, or any servers who do not have any off peak hours players. That is a problem.

Another issue is with soulbound items that are in the bag.
The travel distances are about the same as they were in old LA at launch before Scarlet destroyed it.
