Death Perception can be swapped to Foot in the Grave if you really need the stability. With proper positioning you should only need Foot in the Grave if you’re not in a party with guardians or have to push through a choke.

The added chill bomb build swaps food for condi duration, picks up Chilling Darkness in Curses, and picks up Well of Darkness for the third utility skill. This variant is only needed if you’re running ranged heavy and don’t have enough soft CC’s from your melee train, otherwise run 62006.

Plague should be used as a defensive ability only. The use of plague or lich is up to you but popping lich is begging to get focused. Plague can also be used to help get through hot chokes.

The third utility skill in a 62006 build is optional.

I agree. Due to being Gold rank, I definitely notice getting focused harder. Its usually fine if I am on my warrior or guardian, but on my Necro that is full glass, that gets pretty annoying lol..

Maybe it’s because you’re on a Necro. If I’m harassing the backline I go for the closest necro I can find.

SWORD:

Savage Leap is your primary gap closer to help with positioning and can also be used on engage.

Savage Leap should be followed up by a Flurry if you have adrenaline. Most melee will tend to have stability up so it’s better to immobilize the enemy over wasting adrenaline on a hammer stun. Flurry has a long animation so you need to either immediately weapon swap or dodge to cancel the animation or you might get trucked over. Endurance should be saved for when you actually need to dodge, weapon swapping will allow you hit follow up Flurry with Hammer Shock to apply cripple.

Final Thrust should be reserved for hitting enemies below 50% HP. This skill can crit for 6-8k low health enemy targets.

WARHORN:

Charge gives swiftness to 10 people and cures soft CC’s as well as converts a single condition to a boon from the Quick Breathing trait. This skill should be kept on cooldown during the fight.

Call to Arms is your primary blast finisher and should only be used for blasting water fields.

HAMMER:

Fierce Blow applies weakness and does more damage than Hammer Smash (third hit of hammer 1), use if you know you’re going to land a hit.

Hammer Shock applies cripple and should be used when you need to soft CC enemies.

Staggering blow should only be used to knock someone off siege or away from a circle. This skill can negate a stun as well as knock people out of damage so you generally want to forget this skill exists.

Backbreaker will knockdown opponents which can negate a stun, only use this skill if you need to CC a single target who doesn’t have stability.

Earthshaker is a secondary blast finisher but due to adrenaline decay it should only be used to stun the enemy. The preferred adrenaline skill is flurry since stability will make enemies immune to stuns.

Defiant Stance is used in the same manner as Guardian’s Shelter to pull out of hot zones however you lose a chunk of passive health regen by not having Healing Signet. Which heal skill to use is personal preference.

For Great Justice should be used on engage to give fury to your party. This skill is the main source of fury for melee parties. Might is generally not relied on since most groups get full might stacks from guardian empowers and blasting fire fields.

Shake It Off is the primary stun breaker and should be reserved when you need to break out of a stun.

Balanced Stance is a secondary stun breaker and source of personal stability.

Battle Standard should be used to revive downed allies to keep them from rallying any enemies in a downed state. People who get one pushed though are probably better off running back from spawn so they can rethink their positioning.

Positioning itself is something that can’t really be explained and something you need to learn by experience. You generally don’t want to ever be more than a dodge roll away from your commander though.

I know it’s cheap and cheesy, but I feel like transferring to the most dominant world and rolling the other 2 factions. Seems like you’d get more experience and world bonuses that way.

Any reason, besides cost, to not just transfer to the best server?

Doing this won’t improve your skills as a player. By all means transfer to get better fights, but don’t transfer to a server that’s dominating PPT because they have more people or better coverage. All that will do is make you better at knocking down doors but when the doors hit back you’ll be running towards spawn.

The primary game mode I play is WvW and my race/class combinations have nothing to do with game lore. Currently I’m a fan of having charr frontliners with rucksacks and asura backliners. Rerolling Norn Warrior to Charr and will then reroll Human Necro to Asura.

Shelter isn’t there for the heal as much as it used for the invul. Most healing comes hammer using hammer #2 inside an ele’s water field. Traited with two-handed mastery, the hammer blast finisher has a 4 second cooldown. Healing rain has a 6 second duration, in an ideal situation you could blast it twice. Most melee resets tend to consist of water → blast → empower. You can go from almost dead to full HP within a matter of seconds if your group has half a brain.

Comparing to elementalist, I use ether renewal over signet.
Comparing to warrior, I recently stopped using healing signet in favor of Defiant Stance. Using Defiant Stance in the same manner as Shelter, it’ll heal to almost full HP. Granted, my experience comes from NA T1 with a heavy focus on the necro well bombing meta.

EotM was designed as an overflow for WvW. Perhaps you should only be allowed to enter EotM if all four maps on your server are have a queue.

Restricting WvW access to only lvl 80’s is probably not a good idea since this goes against the game’s original design of having a very non-linear levelling path, granted most of us wish we would never see an uplevel from our own server again.

Unique as well as hard to obtain rewards for WvW would be nice as long as it doesn’t encourage PVD.

This is a Guardian and not a Necromancer topic so I will leave how to get 6k Well of Suffering ticks for another time. However, it does require that Guardians use their HAMMERS to IMMOBILIZE the enemy inside your wells.

“Bunker” is an archetype build for multiple classes in sPvP and doesn’t belong anywhere in WvW.

The current WvW meta puts Necromancers at the top of the damage dealing. The job of the frontline is to immobilize the enemy so they are rooted in necro wells. The greatsword might have superior damage however the hammer has superior crowd control with a short cooldown blast finisher.

You need the immobilize to keep the enemy locked down and the blast finisher for healing. A majority of healing comes from using a blast finisher inside a water combo field.

Farming upevels in EotM is how I get the T2-T4 mats for making my ascended stuff.

It’s also easy to tell where a blob in a karma train mode is going. They tend to travel around in a circle hitting the closest objective they don’t own to the one they most recently captured. Don’t forget about them orange swords, people in EotM seem to not understand that orange swords can be seen on the map by EVERYONE. It’s how we find blobs and wreck blobs of uplevels with ease because they’re too busy rubbing their face in a door to even see us coming. Don’t even need a veil people are so oblivious.

Summary pretty much comes down to forcing a change in population versus giving the underpopulated servers in a match up a handicap. There’s always going to be players who welcome a change and those who object it. However, forcing a change in population will destroy any established server communities and could cause people to stop playing the game. Adding a handicap to lower populated servers might make the overpopulated server of a tier mad if they start losing even with superior numbers. Who knows, maybe that will cause people to transfer and naturally cause a population balance.

Someone mentioned earlier about how hard it can be to rally your server due to mega-server. Perhaps also making LA instanced to each server instead of being mega-server will also help get your server back into WvW.

Simple Solution to Combat Troll Food

Placing this in WvW section because I have no idea of any other place this has an issue in. Not being able to eat enemy food has stopped opposing players from being able to toss down troll food. However, some people still find it funny to toss down cheap food for their allies. It’s easy to avoid this during a fight by using a separate key for AOE Looting but some people like to toss down troll food on top of supply depots and build sites.

A simple solution is to add a confirmation message when interacting with a tray/feast/pot if you already have a food buff active.

Why are WVW "server maps" identical?

It is for balancing. Each server in a matchup has three natural keeps; Garrison, Hills, and Bay. Each borlderland has three different spawn points; North, Southwest, and Southeast. On each borderland, your server’s spawn point is different from the other two. You can complain all you want about it being a short cut from having to create new maps, but if anet had a different map for each borderland people would start to complain about balance.

After that it’s really up to you but I would try to max out Siege Bunker before anything else. If you’re on a heavy don’t worry about AC mastery since it’s better for ranged to be on AC’s. If you’re a light don’t go straight for ram mastery since the rams can get hot if people are defending. After enough ranks to complete the preceding list, you should have an idea of where you need to place future points first. At rank 1390 you max out everything anyways.

Seems like this discussion is coming down to adjusting server population versus adjusting score based on population.

I feel like the ladder is the best idea because trying to force a change in population can potentially destroy guilds and server communities which would only make people quit the game.

Why should a server who has worked hard to create and maintain a strong community be punished by those who haven’t? Ideas such as battlegroups, factions, and server mergers seem to be like they are trying to force a change in population.

Overgrowth is Green.
Green is generally the 1st place server of each tier.
Matches are typically won by the server with the biggest population.
EotM was designed to give people in queue for WvW something to do similar to WvW.
In theory, Green should have the most people in queue so Overgrowth should have the most people in EotM.

Not all population issues would be solved with a GvG mode but it would definitely help. Many guilds transfer to a specific server for the sole purpose of being able to GvG against a guild that’s on another server in the same tier.

Personally think details about how a GvG mode should be done is best left for another thread. However, I do agree that has been needed for a long time.

The game is called Guild Wars, not Server Wars. Dump the idea of servers and replace them with Guild Alliances. Having Guild Alliances that battle against other Guild Alliances would allow everyone to play exactly the way they want to play.

I don’t agree with destroying our server communities just to rebuild it with guild alliances which would end up being the same thing with a different name is the way to go. It’s not going to solve any type of population imbalance. With mega server for PVE, your server is pretty much already a guild alliance. The main reason why T1 servers have such a high population is because of their strong communities which attract people.

For me, the quickest, easiest, and fairest system to go with to balance out WvW would be based around points scoring. Just run everything as it is now, but with every tick each server’s population in WvW would also be recorded and added to an aggregate. At the end of each week divide the total number of points a server scored by the total number of players logged into WvW for that server during that week and use that figure to determine 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places, and adjustment to server rankings.

e.g. With numbers pulled from thin air, and for a single Tick:

Green = 365pts WvW pop = 320 Adjusted Result for Tick = 1.14
Blue = 170 pts WvW pop = 250 Adjusted Result for Tick = 0.68
Red = 160 pts WvW pop = 100 Adjusted Result for Tick = 1.6

I used a single Tick as an example because it’s easier to see the numbers, but imagine the example using the weekly score and weekly population figures and you see what I am getting at.

The reason I favour this system, it rewards good tactics (gaining points for stomping w/bloodlust, capping sentries, ganking dollies), good strategy (aiming to gain and hold objectives for the tick), and removes built in advantages that very high population servers would otherwise have.

Interesting idea to change the tick based on population but this can easily be manipulated by trolls. I’m going to take your concept and put my own spin on it. For this discussion, which I have said in previous posts, since forces can hop between maps and since scoring is based on all maps anything which has to do with population should be considered based on all maps.

Adjusting the end of the week score based on the total players who logged into WvW is probably a bad idea considering some people play longer than others. Green may have had 200 players who each logged in for an hour a day while Blue had 100 players who logged in for three hours each day. Green may have had more people, but Blue had more man hours played. Blue’s may already be higher and basing by players who logged in would only increase it.

Adjusting each individual tick is probably better than the end of the week score. This would also give you an idea of how your server is doing through out the week.

Scenario 1: Blue has 350 PPT and leaves WvW with scouts in place. Red with 150 PPT now out numbers Blue however Blue is getting increased PPT on top of already having 350. Red is trying to catch up and hits a T3 Blue objective, Blue ports blob in from LA, wipes Red, and ports back to LA before tick trying to manipulate the score.

Counter: End tick is adjusted based on the number of people who earned WXP during the 15 minute tick window.

I’m still a bit partial to this idea but it might work.

Someone mentioned earlier the idea of completing removing damage against gates. This is probably a good idea so it forces you to use siege to get through gates, however with siege disablers sometimes it’s the only way. If one person can solo defend a paper tower against a map blob by throwing a siege disabler and countering the enemy siege while it’s disabled, it kind of ruins the game.

Many of us have created communities for our servers which we happen to like. Merging servers would only destroy these communities.

Reducing maximum map capacity will probably be counter productive to trying to balance server population since higher tier servers can already queue a map. The game is to the point where players would rather quit than transfer somewhere else. WvW itself is a sandbox style element of the game and trying to force players to do things makes it less and less of a sandbox.

Changing the scoring system which can give a less populated force a slight handicap would probably be better than trying to force a population balance.

Bloodlust seemed like a good way to encourage fights by earning PPT through stomps however it seems like the server with the biggest population will have the most control over bloodlust. It’s probably about time for a change to the maps and getting rid of bloodlust might be for the better. To still encourage PPT through fighting, stomps can be worth 1 point.

Another suggestion is to change the Outnumbered buff so it works globally across all maps. If the scoring system is based on all four maps why can’t Outnumbered be triggered based on the current population across all maps? Making the Outnumbered buff actually useful has been suggested since it came out and is long overdue for a change. Somethings which might be useful while outnumbered is decreasing the amount of supply it takes to repair/build, make people with the outnumbered buff not worth any points for stomps, and all kills performed while outnumbered worth a single point with stomps worth two. Adding marginal stat increases such as what bloodlust already does would also be beneficial without being overpowered. Last but not least, allow Outnumbered to be stackable if both opposing servers in your match up have you outnumbered.

Personally, I think adjusting the scoring system so less populated forces can still compete is the best idea over forcing any type of server merges, transfers, or some type of battlegroup/faction idea which can turn into what EotM already is.

Personally I don’t think lowering the maximum number of players that can be on a map is a good idea. This will only hinder higher tier servers and won’t help lower tier servers much.

Currently each map can support up to 80 players per server which means each server can have up to a maximum of 320 players in WvW at anytime.

A system which can limit the total number of players each server can have on across all maps which change dynamically in relation to the other servers might work for everyone. As an example, if green has 30 people and blue has 35 people on across all four maps, red can only have a maximum of 45. Even though none of the servers have a queue on any maps, the next person who tries to join WvW on the red server gets placed into a global queue which works much like the individual map queue system. Even though the red server currently has a “global queue” all the players already on a WvW can freely move between maps.

Of course, some type of fail safe would need to be put in place so a losing server can’t decide to log out in order to render the winning server unable to play out of spite.

Never go full soldiers, it’s a waste. I play in T1 where 60vs60 man blob fights can be common and never use full soldiers. My warrior is all zerk except for weapons and my guardian only has two pieces of soldiers gear.

NOTE: The added toughness from Strength In Numbers will actually boost your armor to over 3k while in combat which is not reflected on the gw2skills.net build editor.

If running as militia or in a pug raid you might want to trade out Pure of Voice for Altruistic Healing unless sustain isn’t an issue.

You can run this build as GS/Staff, Ham/Staff, or GS/Ham. For Ham/Staff swap out Purging Flames for Judge’s Intervention.

If you’re new to guardians you might want to run a 0/0/6/6/2 trait setup with both Altruistic Healing and Pure of Voice unless you really need the added stability from Indomitable Courage. It is common to see people apply immobilize and chill conditions on the first engagement since the opposing melee train will almost always have stability up. This is why the added condition cleanse from running Trooper Runes and Pure of Voice (which affects your entire party) is more important for sustain than Altruistic Healing (which only affects you.)

Since GW2’s combat system was designed around group synergy healing power was made to only have a marginal impact. This is why running clerics is also not a viable option since you gain more healing from using a blast finisher inside a water combo field.

You should be able to survive by timing your invuls and dodging. Having shout warriors in your party further helps with condition removal especially if you get chilled or immobilized. Warriors should also give you vigor and clear crowd control conditions by using their war horns. This is where group synergy comes into play. Your party should be able to keep itself alive through having proper traits and skills while your gear is still focused on damage.

Take a note of the double Energy sigils in this build. This might be expensive but it’s also a life saver. When regrouping for a rerally I can immediately swap from GS/Ham back to Staff and gain an extra dodge which allows me to save my invuls.

Shelter should not be your primary heal but your primary invul for getting through chokes and getting back to your pin if you were CC’d and you used all your dodges. Renewed Focus is your secondary invul and should only be used as such and if you’re out of dodges and shelter is on cooldown. You want to make sure all your Virtues are on cooldown before using Renewed Focus. However, you can start casting Renewed Focus and pop any virtues during the cast, once the cast is complete they will reset.

I hope this helps people to understand how to play Guardian better in a Frontline setting (Melee Train) and why you don’t need full Soldiers gear. It is better to avoid damage through using your skills, dodging, and having proper positioning over trying to mitigate it through armor.

Some how the carts are able to hit us on the other side of gate even though this out of line of sight. can somebody explain that as well?

All AOE works through doors, siege and normal. This works both ways, and it can make it very hard to repair the door sometimes.

Just be thankful you’re not playing Warhammer, where you could be AOEd to death inside the lord room from outside the tower.

This can actually be helpful for defending… Ya know.. Stack retal on the gate.

There are four professions in WvW you never hear people say, “we have too many of.”

1. Warriors
2. Guardians
3. Elementalist
4. THE NECROMANCER

Reason: Necromancers are your top source of damage. We corrupt our enemies and make them suffer until they drop all their bags of loot.

Guardians use hammer #3 to immobilize the enemy.
Elementalist uses shockwave to immobilize the enemy.
Necromancer drops wells on the immobilized enemy.
Warrior hammer stuns the enemy since well of corruption removed their stability.

This is called synergy and necromancers have a very important role in it.

Those are some pretty good ideas. Perhaps for Siege Mastery though add an ability where deployed siege is less affected by siege disablers and/or deployed siege takes a reduction in damage.

However, for Supply Depositor to be fair supply between WvW and EotM would need to be instanced. Otherwise, you can just keep ferrying people between EotM and your keep to rebuild supply without needing camps and escorting yaks in.

Siege Troll Discussion

As far as a viable solution to fix siege trolls who are just trying to siege cap an area and drain supply, I am unsure that there is one that would not hinder legitimate players.

For those trolls who like to drop trebuchets on doors when a commander is trying to build rams and people who walk golems off cliffs, I believe I have an idea that could work.

Siege is already tagged with ownership of the item once the blueprint is dropped. Perhaps adding a buff icon to each piece of siege showing the owner would help to identify who the trolls are. You will no longer receive an interact option for siege dropped by anyone on your blocked list. To stop people who like to walk golems off cliffs, anyone on your blocked list will not be able to use siege you have ownership of. This system could also be used for people who like to drop troll food on top of siege that people are building. It’s not foolproof but at least a tool that players could use to combat the situation.

Siege Disabler

There does need to be some type of internal cooldown once a piece of siege has been disabled before it can be disabled again.

Another idea is also making disabled siege immune to damage—then you have to decide, “am I going to disable the enemy siege or destroy the enemy siege?”

WvW Guild Raids

My guild runs both public and private raids.

Public raids are nice for helping to recruit pugs to your guild but you need to run private raids to train those pugs so they are actually fighting as a member of your guild instead of being another pug rallybot who happens to share the same guild tag.

I lost count of how many times we have had a dozen plus enemy singles and one of our pugs dies and rallies them all. If you see a guild running tagless and in private comms you should respect what they are trying to do.

Bring 6 guards, 6 warrs, 2 necros, and a ele into EotM and you can wipe a map blob of uplevels fairly easy in EotM. Granted, it does get exciting when you run into a bunch of 80’s or even another guild group but rarely does that happen and often you see all sides still conforming to the “let’s just karma train mentality”.

Many players are leaving WvW because they are just getting tired of the game and moving onto something else. This is natural for all MMO’s but with the combination of mega-server and EotM it’s getting harder for us to get people interested in WvW. I personally feel like if EotM was removed from the game more people would start to transition back to WvW. Of course, there are PVE players who are only in EotM to farm champ bags and level their toons and wouldn’t touch WvW regardless.
