@Crovax, FFXIV is appealing to a different crowd. It’s sub numbers are very low – which is fine because as a sub game it doesn’t need a ton of subscribers to still break even. So yeah, they are able to put stuff like that in, but GW2 is doing just fine with the kind of content they’re releasing at the moment, I don’t see them changing what they’re doing. And to clarify I completely get what everyone is saying, I’ve been playing FFXIV this month because the GW2 story release didn’t take me super long, but GW2 is a B2P game which players can return to whenever they want – it was never designed to be a hardcore gamers paradise.

I totally get what you’re saying but I think we’re talking about different things.
To clarify: GW2 imho lacks content that inspires you to go out into the world and actually do stuff. I’m not talking about LS which funnels players into one area every time to get the story, grind events for 2 weeks and then move on to the next update.

I played both games and from what i’ve seen ffxiv has (in addition to hardcore raids) the exact type of content, anet is aiming for, but not delivering as much.
Just an example: Last time i played ffxiv, I didn’t want to raid, so I was looking for other stuff to do and found a super cute mini pet i wanted to get.
I looked up what i needed to craft that thing and had a pretty huge list of things to get.
Now in gw2 i’d just buy stuff off the tp because of anets anti-farming DR – i can’t just farm x amount of stuff I need. Ffxiv inspires me to go out into its world and on an adventure – I’m completely free.
Long story short: took me several days to get everything, but after finding a good crafter, who put all that stuff together the experience was so much more rewarding
than anything I ever did in gw2 (liadri aside).
You don’t need difficult or ‘hardcore’ content, just don’t hand everything to your players and give them the tools to make their own story through gameplay.

I can grab some friends and just go out, doing small open world bosses or treasure hunts, heck, that game even has a gardening system for your house and a breeding system for your pets.
GW2 adds a new minigame every now and then in addition to the ‘half an hour of story plus new skin on the tp’ but what they need to do is add stuff in the world.
Don’t even get me started in actual producion quality and QA. Since you probably played the main storyline and hildibrand questline, you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about.

Sadly quantity is different in people’s perspective.

In the end no matter how big the content is people will still blaze through it and then start complaining again the content wasn’t big enough.

Just look at FF14ARR 2.3 release. It looked big but almost all the rushers done everything released in 2.3 already by now due to rushing through the content and we are still 2.5 months away from 2.4 release. Anything now is just repeating the same content over again for dailies or weeklies or just for the sake of repeating them.

You are missing a major point – FFxiv is still going to have an expansion, which is atm in development.
Besides, both games differ greatly in what they add in patches;
GW2 brings a short story to play through once, maybe a second time for achievements and maybe one more time per alt, plus a new place to grind.
FFxiv adds content, that aims to give the game more longevity.
Not only a story and new raids and dungeons, but also stuff like marks- open world bosses, a whole new class and job, chocobo breeding, housing (seriously, the private and guildhousing in that game is fricking huge), a lot of new quests and side scenarios, a ton of new gear/skins and crafting recipes.
Anet seriously has to step up their game to be able to compete with sqenix in terms of content.

The difference is: gw2 adds content that gets boring after being played for a certain amount of time(s), they need to enhance existing content and the world we already have, giving players a world where they can make their own adventure and not the theme park we currently have. At least that’s my opnion on the matter.

I prefer playing against s/d over d/p because stealth, while useless in conquest, is just cheap and annoying. I’d rather fight something i can actually see, even when it’s highly evasive.

With the current pattern we see on the market, the best time would be in the middle of when an event item is released. For instance, if a limited edition item is released during a 1 month LS arc, wait for two weeks before placing an order. Items are usually high priced when they first come out, and high priced towards the end of an event due to speculations.

But if they re-release an item (i.e. Monocle), then you’re out of luck if the prices drop after you made a purchase.

Not having read most of the other posts here I just want to say that I’d rather play for skins. The gem store has so many things to offer:
from pets to finishers, musical instruments, account upgrades, outfits, a load of convenience items and toys.

It’s a real shame we have to pay gems for many new armorsets and weaponskins;
I know BL skins are available on the TP but wouldn’t you rather do something challenging or associated with the theme of the set to aquire it?

The bobblehead laboratory is awesome and I have no problem with stuff like that
or bank tabs being on the store to help Anet raise money but why so many skins?

That’s the official introduction to season 2 for people who missed out on LS1 i think. Doesn’t explain the characters but gives a rough overview of what happened.

I think they are meant to be bought for geodes. Downside being that you have to do a lot of drytop content with the advantage that they aren’t time gated like other recipes which cost laurels.

the weapons go better than anything else I have seen with my human cultural T3 heavy armor. The filigree of the weapons matches that of the tabard.

calcite weapons have the same color scheme, so if you need a complete set of weapons to match a white/golden char, there you go

As a roamer and burster, you really shouldn’t be too concerned about 1v1.

If you’re fighting a fair fight, you’re doing it wrong.

As a roamer i tend to inavde far or burst strugglers in midfights.
Now far has either nobody → cap
1 person → win 1v1 + cap
more than 1 person → disengage and help end outnumbered midfight quickly

shortbow has. when engaging another thief it’s best to start with sb #4 and some autoattacks before switching and going melee.

Seeing as you don’t seem to have problems against it, I’d like to ask how to deal with any x/p thief.

The blind is pretty bad for the mainset but if i try to go ranged I’m stuck with 10sec swap cd and the other thief just goes in for the kill :/
I’ve lost some 1v1 to x/p which i though i’d win for sure
but my opponent was able to turn the tides with <10% since i just could not hit.
d/p is especially bad with shadowshot.

Just wanted to get some other opinions on this and see if it
corresponds with my experiences so far.

I find myself heavily pressured by necros if they have a lot of life force left over
and MM. I’m at the point where I can easily read their animations for marks
and the golem dash and dodge accordingly but there’s just so much crap
flying around that the random damage from minions can be overwhelming.

Hambow is also a real pooper since the burning screws me over completely.
It’s not even the disables even though one hit feels like insta -25% hp.

Also for some weird reason I find medi guard to be quite hard.
Blind screws me, as does burning and if the GS chains connect it’s ‘lights out’
since the chaining into whirling wrath can only be avoided by signet wich ports me even closer (-> should I save steal for this scenario or use it for boonrip?) Uninterruptable heal is also not helpful :/

Any tips? Any other classes you find to be comperatively hard?

edit: this is for spvp. I’d also like to mention that I can disengage just fine but if I try to harass far, resetting the fight is just as bad a loss.

You seem to be missing the point i was making for the last couple of posts;
Name recognition for Sizer is much higher than for whatever your ingame name is.
Therefore people immediatly know it’s a 2/0/0/6/6 s/d-sb with III-II III VIII-V VII XII
with air-fire and fire-energy.
Aside from some people on the forums, most ingame don’t know you but know Sizer since TCG won the ToL. Deal with it.

The only reason that Sizer won the ToL with it and I didn’t was because ANet made it extremely difficult for me to join the tournament, and my team fell apart because of a lack of committment from people looking to join. I also find it insanely funny that you think that a single tournament allows you to own a build, but streaming/writing guides/theorycrafting/arguing with other top thieves/etc about the build doesn’t give you an ounce of credit.
