Real question: How is Wildstar doing so well? Or Why?

Steam release.
It helps that the leveling experience is actually really fun and enganing and the game mechanics solid. Overall an incredibly polished game. Tried it out a few weeks ago and have to say it would be in a much better situation, had they not botched the launch by catering to hardcores like they did.

I think this thread being up to 4 pages is more evidence that GW2 isn’t dying. Games that are dying don’t have much community activity on their forums, lol.

~EW

I’ve seen threads on dead games go for pages and pages because 3-4 people just use it to argue with eachother, the amount of pages means nothing, it depends on the number of unique users contributing to the thread.

Yeah, 3-4 people as opposed to all the people in this thread… and all the others in all the other threads to boot.

~EW

I haven’t played the game in months, yet i posted my opinion. I keep tabs on the forums in case the game gets better and I’m sure there are others just like that. Posting on the forums and actively playing are not the same.

edit: also have a look at the countless threads with <10 posts. This one is basically an outlier because it’s controversial and pulls in active players as well as former players who want to check on the state of the game.

Game will pick steam again when LS3 comes and the new WvW team are gonna make WvW great again^^

I can’t wait to see the huge WvW overhaul they’ve been working over a year on. It must be a complete game changer and it is going to bring so many people back, hopefully the GvG scene as well will return.

No matter how good WvW is, I’ll never play it considering how horribly optimized it is. Sub 20 fps on a GTX970 in a 4year old game is simply unaccepatble.

The concept seems nice but when playing for more than 30 minutes gives me a headache due to the constant stuttering, something’s wrong.

Also in regards to LS3; I’m sure people will come back to check it out – I know I will, but what matters is whether or not people stay. For me that highly depends on the amount of content added and whether or not the content seems like more than just a barebones platform to sell more stuff on the gemstore.

edit: Adding stuff to work towards ingame that requires more than just gold grinding would already go a long way. As it is now the game feels more like a second job where you do mundane tasks over and over again so you can at some point down the line afford the expensive, shiny thing you want on the marketplace.
The game’s just boring at the moment and to me at least that’s the worst thing a game can be.

There was a tournament? Why were there no advertisments? Maybe I would have tuned in for a few minutes during the OG OverWatch Invitationals downtime :/

It was advertised everywhere. There was a buff in-game, there was an ad in every loading screen in-game, there was an ad in the front page of the Guild Wars 2 site and login window, and there was an a notice on these forums and Reddit.

Short of them visiting your house and telling you personally, I’m not sure what more they could do. If people don’t tune in, they’re just not interested or not paying attention.

Yes, I assume that is was mostly my fault. What I posted there were my immediate thoughts after reading the title. Usually I’m being made aware of tournaments when viewership for certain games on the twitch HP spikes.
I haven’t played GW2 in quite a while since there’s nothing really worthwhile to do aside from grinding HoT maps and the post on the subreddit had so little upvotes that I just overlooked it :/
I was interested but I assumed that, just like with other games, those with ongoing tourneys just appear on the twitch frontpage even when they normally don’t have a huge following. A good example for that would be several SSB Melee tournaments in the last couple of weeks.

Overwatch! I almost forgot that I paid for that game and is somewhere in my HD… How’s doing? I heard that the random drops do makes generic Korean MMO grinding “reasonable”.

Don’t know where you heard that because you get a loot box every ~5 games/1h but it’s doing insanely well. About two weeks ago there were reportedly over 10 million active players and they have multiple tournaments a each week; all of them averaging around 25-30k viewers, which is insane considering the scene is relatively young and those tourneys are iirc completely community organized.

Plus r/overwtach just overtook r/minecraft and is now the third largest gaming subreddit after pokemon and league. Jeff Kaplan, the lead game designer has been incredibly open and regularly posts on the forums and the subreddit as well as youtube videos where he talks about things to come and design decisions.

I know it’s cool to hate on blizz but ANet definitely could learn a thing or two.

Untradable weapon skins

Reading this thread, we understand your questions and want to share a little information: This set is designed to be a special, exclusive set and therefore it’s a little different than most. There are a couple of other interesting factors that you’ll want to know: The set is available for one ticket. It will remain priced at one ticket into the future, so someone who wants it now doesn’t need to be concerned about it becoming unavailable or about it rising in price in the future. Other sets currently available are not account bound, such as the Cavalier Weapon Set which was recently released at a price of 1 Black Lion Claim Ticket and remains at that price now. In addition, we do intend to continue to offer tradeable sets in the future. If you’d like a preview of the new set, go to your bank wardrobe and filter for “Privateer.” We hope this answers your questions, and thanks for sharing your thoughts.

-Sarah

Why is the set special? Why would we think it’s anything but you testing the waters on how much you can screw over customer before there’s backlash?

OC’ed 4770K (~4.1GHz) with GTX 970 here. 50-60 in LA and 15-20 in big WvW zergs. 1080 will still run like garbage because the game enine is an altered version of of the GW1 engine and a complete hackjob at that. Game is heavily CPU dependent and how all those WvWer can play sub 30 is an absolute mystery to me.

edit: 1080p and max settings except reflections because apparently tuning that one down is supposed to help with framerate.

Oh boy, I played on Nost for about half a year; most fun I ever had in an MMO since vanilla, Black desert aside maybe. GW2 is good but nothing beats good old 1.12 WoW.

Community was awesome, levelling was awesome and took ages, open PvP: awesome. Never even attempted raiding and there was still so much to do. Hmmm. if Blizz ever does a vanilla realm I’m going to subscribe day 1.

I imagine ANet would have to do exactly the same thing if players did a pirate core server. It’s not greed, it’s legal necessity so they don’t set a precedent for letting people use their intellectual property if more nefarious uses spring up.

I’ve written a few times since taking this role that I think our job is to delight you with what we ship, not with talk and promises.

What do you think are the odds that you will do that with this update, Mike? From the trailer I’ve just seen it’s very unlikely. Before that my expectations were low, but I’d hoped for something new, now I don’t. So, you’ve successfully managed my expectations.

Boss revamps are nice but I must have killed the megadestroyer a hundred times, tweaks aren’t enough to revitalise three year old content.
Similarly expecting people to keep rerunning the same fractals for new rewards seems unrealistic to me.

the poor guy cant even tell WvW and PvE apart. don’t be too hard on Mo.

I am not sure what to expect from this company anymore. Chances are, even when i dont expect anything, i will still be disappointed. atleast if they keep going at the pace down they are going, down this shallow, empty road that they are on.

In defense of Mo (Mike) I feel he is the only good direction the game has taken in a while. Though I hate it when dems or republicans do this, i think it is safe to say that his biggest obstacle is cleaning up the mess from the previous incumbents at ANET. Love the guys, hate’em, completely indifferent (i am in that boat) it was the mistakes of the past 6-10 months that are eating ANET alive right now. That is why we have a new lead regardless of unicorn/fairyland stories given.

However, one thing that should not happen is a complete content drought for all the players while fixing the mess. The whole chasing the carrot thing has gotten way too old and has been way overused.

MO was pulling the strings the entire time, even when Colin was still employed by ANet. I don’t even know where this notion of scapegoating Colin comes from.

Why is armor design so poor in this game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Crovax.7854

Crovax.7854

  • Inability to make stylish edges and curves (even when the artwork is stylish, the in-game models translate them really poorly).
  • Inability to add epic-looking armor into the game (anyone remember the days of ascended gear and the glorious community reaction to the skins? Or what about carapace -> luminiscent upgrade, where an overly-designed, goofy-looking armor set was given a blue tint to make it unique and special: pity that the base model looks terrible).

Case in point: The saddest part is that the concept art for ascended armor looks amazing as opposed to the flustercluck we got ingame. I’d even go as far as to say it’s fit for legendary armor!

Just look at this:

Good comms from the man I think.
I’m sure they will release it when it is ready™.

So, he mentioned hints. Have we seen any yet?

A lot of hints :

  • scribe costs will be reduced
  • daily fractals will be changed
  • beta testing new rewards in WvW (update day)
  • beta testing population solutions in WvW (reset following update day)
  • rewards in HoT maps / events : reduce grind and improve rewards
  • a new legendary shortbow
  • improvements on obtaining the new HoT gear

Things we won’t have in April

  • no LS 3 (have to wait until July)
  • no new fractal
  • no other lengendary weapon
  • no change on how Agony and Agony Resistance works
  • No plans for graphics engine update
  • no keyrings

I wonder if this means big changes to fractals or only structural ones such as merging the lower tiers to one big ‘1-50’ tier. Fractals are my favorite content in GW2 and I think we can all agree it’s in dire need of new content, not just another ‘framework change’.

Worst thing about this is, as always, I expect nothing from ANET, yet probably will still be disappointed.

Crovax.7854

It doesn’t matter or not if Anet has the numbers. What matters are the numbers Anet gave us which is 16 new legendaries hidden behind another important number which was 50 dollars minimum U.S. currency for the expansion.

Besides Anet already knew long before HoT the numbers of people with legendaries and decided to do this anyway. Now that HoT hasn’t had the reception they thought now they are rushing another expac at the expense of promised HoT features.

Exactly. Anet is doing what they think is best for the good of the game, not the good of what is likely a very small percentage of the player base. It’s a business decision. They have as much responsibility to the majority than the do to any minority, no matter what was printed on the box.

While I agree that it’s highly likely more players will participate in LS than legendary journeys, it’s important to note that ANet sold their expansion based on the promise of implementing said legendaries in a timely manner.
Seeing as they apparently have to prioritize some aspects of development over others it makes sense to pull ressources towards the LS, however:

Why take developers from a team that’s supposed to implement a key feature of this expansion instead of the exp2 team (which is said to be comprised of ~70 devs – that would mean a reduction of less than 10% in workforce)?

As I’m sure you are aware, the problem has more to do with ANet not delivering what they sold and less having to choose between legendaries and Living Story, even though it could be argued that we shouldn’t be in a situation where we are forced to choose to begin with.

I personally bought the expansion solely because of the new legendary weapons and the fractal backpiece, neither of which are in the game almost half a year after HoT release. If it were raids or LS that got cancelled, I would have been just as disappointed as I am now, even though I have zero interest in those parts of the game.
I’d also like to add that anyone with a bit of common sense can see that ‘putting on hold indefinitely’ is just PR speak for ‘getting axed’.

It’s the principle, and ANet going back on their word sets a bad precedent for things to come; That’s why people are disappointed, not just because legendaries got cut.

edit: As for the video, he completely misses the point and I find it highly concerning that someone with this little understanding of why people are upset and/or disappointed is considered a ‘voice’ of the community.

Legendary weapons

Crovax.7854

I think we got too spoiled with constant updates and new free stuff that we forgot how much they did for the game till now. We already had legendaries with the expansion, now we will have 1 free. The others were not meant to be included into Hot, it was planned but they changed their mind, and that’s fine because it’s their game, their idea and they are the ones working on it.

Excuse me?! Their constant updates consisted of 10 minutes of mediocre story for 4 times in a row x2 with huge gaps in between and the last time we actually got new content outside of the half finished expansion itself was vinewrath on january 13th 2015! Yes, over one year ago!
The whiteknighing in here is just baffling.
HoT was advertised as having a full new set of legendaries, period. I bought the expansion specifically for the legendary weapons as well as the fractal backpack, neither of which are actually in the game almost half a year after release!

edit: The amount of people arguing that they don’t care for legendaries is just mind-boggling. It’s not about what type of content they cut – it’s about ANet promising that content and not delivering after getting paid.
Doesn’t matter if it’s LS, raids, legendareis or what have you.

And yet it lost to ESO for best MMO. How unfortunate :/
That being said HoT really is lacking content and a lot of stuff like the story or the fact that we got very few new skins ingame make it seem rushed. Still liking the game but as far as expansions are concerned Heavensward should have won by a country mile.

Nope, Heaven sword release(3.0) has no where near as much content as HoT, It has 3 maps(including a city), a few skills for each class no where near specs of hot of course and end game is still the same token grind.

It did however come with 3 new jobs/classes and a new race. Features, at this point, 10 new dungeons and 3 raids. Seems like more content than HoT to me.

That’s because it does have more actual content and more features. Plus their quaterly patches are about the size of a whole living world season in GW2. Also it’s called Heavensward, not Heaven’s Sword.

edit: forgot to mention the festivals. instead of only 2 major ones that are usually just copy/paste XIV actually has a ton of unique festivals with new rewards each year and pretty well put together questlines.

I’m not doubting that ANet loves their game but something seems to be amiss with their management considering the difference in new content between those two games.

You mean how GW2 is a B2P game funded by box sales and potential (but not guaranteed) gem store sales, meanwhile FFXIV is funded by a monthly required subscription on top of it’s boxed sales and expansion boxed sales? That kind of makes all the difference in content output and quality.

That makes sense but I wonder, if one model clearly is more profitable than the other, why not adopt it? At the end of the day ANet is just another company (or subsidiary for that matter) with the goal to make money.
It also makes it look like GW2 is the cheap but inferior alternative for people with not enough money to afford a subscription based MMO.
Not saying that’s how it actually is but it certainly looks that way.

Legendary precursor journey is a joke....[Merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Crovax.7854

Crovax.7854

Most of the crafted precursors are cheaper than on tp, if you craft the timegated ingredients yourself.

Most of the precursors are even undervalued on the tp, if you consider the average amount of rares/exotics that you have to throw into the forge in order to get one.

I dont know what kind of discount you were expecting on top of that.

Reading a few of the comments on the forum I think some people were expecting a miracle. A precursor which is cheap and easy to obtain but still rare and valuable.

Easily doable through skill-based challenges that not many players can complete due to their difficulty instead of time- and moneygating. However that would have required ANet do develop new content instead of rehashing old events and using ‘the market’ as an excuse for those exorbitant material requirements.
By the way, I already crafted one precursor and am halfway through the second. It’s good that it’s guaranteed but kitten , the method they chose is just mind boggling.
It’s certainly no ‘legendary’ journey.

Edit: Just wanted to add that timegating itself is not bad. Them making those precursors sellable which means they ‘have to’ be roughly as expensive as those on the TP is the actual problem. You never hear people complain about the fractal legendary even though each step is time gated for at least 2 weeks.
The fact that the precursor hunt is connected to the market instead of requiring a ton of account bound collectibles due to laziness(?) or not enough development time is what gets me :/

For a lot of players that’s a huge amount of money and just as I was checking back from the silverwastes to hand in my 1000 bandit crests I opened the 4 champ bags I got from the VW meta event. Well… Does that mean the game loves me or hates me?

If anything we need an option to give us sustain outside of double/triple stances and baseline fast hands to open up build diversity.

Pre-ordering is usually pretty anti-consumer. I have no proble buying the finished product once reviews are out and it’s clear that the content (amount as well as quality) justifies the higher than average price tag but for now; why would I buy something that I don’t have all the information about?

After games like watch_dogs, unity, dragon age 3 and many others people should really know by now how ridiculous the concept of preordering the digital copy of a game is.
Holding the beta ransom isn’t going to help either – would have loved to test out berserker but $$$ is more important than letting players with years of experience playtest new content/classes it seems.

If you want to have raiding then fine but it needs to be fair for those that do not raid. No epic gear should be dropped that cannot be gotten another way. If you want different gear drops for raids then make it gear that you can only use in raids.

It would seem that Arena net is forgetting what they set out to do. To make a different type of MMO, at least, that was what they said during the beta and release. Now, they seem to be moving towards being like other MMO’s and not different.

1) They will not add another tier of stats so raids won’t be necessary to keep up in terms of stats.

2) Raids are only one of many features that HoT offers, so people who are not into raiding will have enough to do without it.

If you are seriously QQing because there may be some cosmetics that are exclusive to raiding then, wow, no idea what to tell you.

As warrior main, I cannot complain, it looks really awesome and I am grateful for this elite spec as it could have been fail, which is definitely not! I cannot wait to finally test it in next beta warrior masterrace, as always.

expect many deserved nerfs for the sake of this game and don’t complain when they arrive.

Yeah well, they said primal bursts are supposed to be weaker then normal bursts, but you can use them more often. I don’t see that rifle supernova being weaker.

That was with the piercing tait equipped. Ever seen a full piercing killshot into a zerg? Looks prettys similar with bigger but fewer numbers.
The skill still has a loooong wind-up and the other rifle abilities still suck so yeah.

How to 1hit kill a zerk group: the class.

See reaction pic.

I actually was pretty floored when I first saw that in the video but when they kept repeating that portion of the skill exhibit, I noticed that the targets he shot at with the skill were mostly half dead before he shot them. When it showed him shooting fresh targets, it didn’t even do half of their HP. When you see the skill performed with the pic as a result, it was likely after shooting through them 2 or 3 times.

Also this. Numbers aren’t as high as you make them out to be.

Old build with condi bunker from 3:55
Now it could be even more powerful since we will be stacking burning dmg instead of bleeds. Sword/torch + LB, Defense, Berserk, Discipline.
Sword use only for projectile defense (against rangers, dragon hunters etc) and fire aura. Build yourself into a tank and let the enemy kill himself due to the retaliation+burn

I was talking about PvE, sorry for the confusion. My point was: we are losing bleeds/torment and gain burns but for those burns to be as effective as the condis we lost, they need to have at least 35-40% ticks/sec of the sword OH condis and after seeing the incredibly short duration on PoI I’m not sure that’s possible.

Plus, sword AA is incredibly good in applying mass bleeds. Same goes for F1. The zerker mode will be completely useless for condi players.

The last thing: for most of those burns to be applied we need to combo stuff which takes some time. Time I could use to apply bleeds from sword and overall it seems like a rather complicated way that ends up doing less damage.

Just wanted to gather some opinions on this.
The way I see it we have one viable condi mainhand – sword, sword and torch as OH and LB as a two-handed options.

Now I play condi war. I love it. With a strength sigil (+100%crit), fgj and rage signet you even get some decent might. However, despite Robert showing off zerker as a class that can use condi I’m a bit concerned.

In full sinister ascended I have 1494 cdmg which translates to 112bleed/tick/sec and 364burn/tick/sec.
Now to get the same amount of damage from burning as from bleeds I’d need around 35-40% of ticks/sec from that condition.

From the poi it looked like the burning uptime was high but the individual stacks had a very low duration, even with smoldering and 20% trait.
I can maintain ~25+ stacks of bleed with my current s/s-lb, meaning the bleeds and torment I lose have to be compensated by burning. My first impression was that the bleeds I lose from switching disc (fast hands and quickness) to zerk are overall more damage than the burning I gain from torch and zerk.

In addition there’s the case of the useless primal bursts. Sword primal is pretty useless as a condi user. The low burning is in no way comparable to the long duration high bleed stacks of flurry. The same goes for longbow since you’d want a long field duration + size, meaning that I probably will lose damage from going berserk as a condi user.

One last thing. I’m concerned that just AA’ing sword is more damage than spamming those low duration burns since sword has some amazing bleed application on its own.

Thoughts?

So you have to build a full adrenaline bar before you can use this “style”? Sounds really, really cumbersome without something like Berserker Stance.

Especially when you factor in how broken adrenaline decay is right now.

How to defeat berserker:

1.) Run blind spam build
2.) disengage for 5 seconds until all adrenaline decays
3.) Wait for cooldown on berserker stance and signet of rage and engage

It just sounds more annoying than fun.

I think this could be even worse in pve where you kill mobs before your adrenaline bar is full and where it decays completely before you even reach the next mob.
Maybe the berserker tree will have a passive that lets you keep adrenaline like warrior had before the changes.

I wonder why people are so hyped about the pingpong skill. It will be useless in pve and pvp for the same reason physical skills are useless.

Displacing mobs in pve is more harmful than useful (see lb ranger) and skills that hit only once in a game type where blind is given out like candy and random dodges are as prevelant as theys are is not going to happen. Plus they compete with stances and i’m pretty sure due to lackluster warrior design overall we needed at least 2 to not be freekills in pvp.

A way for them to be somewhat viable is if the cd is in the 10-15 sec range.
And while they’re at it they could reduce physical cds by 33% too.

PVP pov: Berserker = Condi, too bad..

We’ve already seen that some condi specs can do more DPS than the power based ones (see engi), so I wouldn’t mind if a condi/sinister berserker became one of the pve meta builds.

Well if i like condi spec i wouldnt made a warrior.. and i wouldnt called it Berserker also..

I still find condi cheese mode, such a shame! warrior will join the rest of the lame condi specs.

Where do you see berserker being a condi class?

“The first is focused on brawling by providing benefits for going berserk and to help gather up enemies. The second category focuses on burning and condition damage. The final category focuses on the Berserker’s unstoppable nature by adding healing options and stun breaks.”

One line for condi, one for power, one for sustain.

It reads more like control/condi/sustain.

Really bummed out the torch doesn’t have a smoke field. That would have been the only explanation why they even made powerful synergy the way it is now.
Now it’s even more baffling how any competent designer could think that trait is fine :/

Other than that it seems alright. Not a fan of torch as a weapon but it makes sense so yeah. Just kinda underwhlemed by what was presented so far. I’ll probably stick to s/s and maybe take the berserker line over discipline since that trait line doesn’t really support condis anyway.
Loosing quickswap and warrior sprint is going to suck pretty bad though. Makes me wish at least one of those was made baseline.

EDIT: forgot to add: I hope the condi traits in the berserker line are not torch specific so using s/s is still an option for people who want condi berserker but without torch. I could see that taking away a huge deal from build diversity among condi speccs.

Official statement… the rest you DINT post..

In addition to Wings of Glory, we’re adding a new unique item you can earn for competing in PvP leagues—a legendary one! Participating in league play will allow you to begin a journey toward building an entirely new and unique legendary back item. You’ll begin by gaining the ability to build the collection for the precursor; later, you’ll build that precursor into a legendary backpack, the Ascension. Though this new legendary item will focus on having players earn rewards from competitive PvP, it will also require attaining other items that go into the final collection to build it.

DULFY:
Six divisions starting with Amber and ending at Legendary.

Each division is divided into several tiers represented by pips.
To cross into the next division, you must complete all the tiers in your current division.

Division 1 the starter division will only reward forward progress but starting at division 2 and 3 winning matters as losing cause you to lose pips but you will not lose tiers.

Once you hit division 4 and 5, you can lose both pips and tiers when you lose a match but you will never go back to a previous division.

The 6th division the Legendary Division is a repeatable division that provides better rewards.

Earn league tokens to spend on PvP exclusive items like the back item Wings of Glory. Once you hit the Legendary division you will be able to work towards the legendary version of the backpiece.

So tell me… is everyone going to be able to advance to the legendary league? or are only the teams that are the most skilled gonna dominate this league? Cuz in order to get the LEGENDARY version of the back piece… you will have to be a skilled player working in this top tier league.

Good players get good looking skins without stat advantages. So what’s the problem here?
You can still get to the highest division even when you only play one game per day so there isn’t even a time commitment, plus you can soloq which eliminates the need for a static group.
This ‘I want everything’ attitude from some people in here is seriously baffeling.
Not everything is for everyone. Get over it.

I hope the expansion adds a good number of exclusive skins from raids/pvp/fractals/wvw that not everyone can get.
I was never a raider in other games so I never had all the good loot but seeing it on others made me try and get those items for myself, making the game far more enjoyable as a result.
If they add more exclusive skins here, I probably won’t get those either but ultimately it’s a good thing.
