Yeah, while you lose your stealth for 6 seconds you still have blind spam, shadowsteps, steal interrupt through stability. Im sorry your glorious stealth got counter but you have still a lot defences and after 6 seconds you can disappear again +15 seconds and full reset the fight.

blind spam doesn’t exist, few shadow shots and you are sitting at 0 ini… besides half of engi spells are not even affected by blind + they have enough ways to (auto) cleanse blind

shadowstep is long CD and won’t prevent engi from hitting me

and how will steal help me vs engi exactly? please elaborate

lot of defenses? like what?

you forget engis have other ways to reveal as well….

Traits that remove Reveal sound nice, but in the grand scheme of things they’re insignificant. The problem isn’t the rise of Reveal effects, it’s Thief’s absurd over-reliance on Stealth just to be able to survive. Until this is addressed, nothing of merit will change.

Ever thought that people might like to play stealth classes? Why grief and punish them for it so heavily? Counters are ok and needed, but not braindead crap they added to game.
900!!!!! range aoe reveal….how can one be so stupid?!

How’d I do? Not gonna lie, I’m pretty mad right now. Did that whole tryhard as Thief thing, then went lazy mode on my Mesmer which made me realize I can play half afk on Mesmer and do more than when I try on my Thief despite the high amount of games (ranked and unranked) I have on Thief compared to Mesmer.

i find this description quite accurate, i think what is missing is that thief is not a class but a pet that can’t stand on it’s own

I had 2+ years for patience…. there is nothing left. I seen this class being destroyed patch after patch, i never gave up, i kept playing, played other classes to find even tiny detail that could help me to deal with them, i got kicked from teams for being thief and not mesmer twice. I had hopes for spec patch, it became even worse than i expected. I had hopes for elite spec – it was even worse than i expected. My hopes and patience got kicked in the guts, violated and left dead in the side street. I have been lied to and trolled by them so many times i have nothing positive left in that regard. The whole 2 years of my experience can be summed up as: i am being griefed by “gods” for just playing a thief.

Why should i be patient now? There won’t be anything good. And as matter of fact i hate playing evade build, i would rather play warrior at that point. So even if they did make DrD somehow OK, there would be no reason for me to play this game unless dagger builds are playable. Except by the looks of it devs are trying to make playing experience for stealth based thief builds as frustrating as possible.

I feel like I have blindly paid for something only for discovering later I had just paid for my Death.

I am srsly thinking about it….. i feel scammed by xpac. It is pretty obvious that devs decided to make thief playing experience as frustrating as possible. I don’t want my money used to pay griefers because what they are doing right now is pure form of griefing.

I wonder weither they are clueless or just do it on purpose. Thief is already most frustrating and unsatisfying profession to play in pvp (go to pvp but don’t you dare to engage fights), the only thing that keeps them in meta is sb5. Why are they making it worse? Is this kind of hate crusade? Are thief players really that bad that they should be punished and have only crappy experience in competitive areas of this game. Is this some kind of massive griefing action? For what? Is someone suffering from god complex and making thief experience miserable because they got backstabbed once?

idk about anet but i used to play other games and devs weren’t allowed to favor certain group of players (there were some and they got rid off pretty quickly)…. which anet devs are doing right now

Steal: applies paralyzing poison now, prevents player from using specific spells based on class mechanics, e.g. engis can’t switch kits and blocks for duration of the debuff; mes can’t create clones etc.

There are way more things that remove chill which Reaper is supposed to utilize to be sticky than there is to stealth, and stealth is a way more “broken” mechanic.

Also OP you got it wrong: getting bursted out of nowhere or guys pressing one button to disengage any fight is the problem, giving out reveals is the counterplay to THAT, and definitly needed. There isn’t nearly as much revealing as you make it out to be, and almost all of it is on situational skills not everybody might use. Heck, some forms are depending on which traitlines they take.

I don’t get it either…. i understand if they wanted to tone down class a bit but they didn’t just do that. They nerfed many thief skills across the board over years and buffed other professions. Then there is revealed handled out like candy on Christmas to everyone.

Thief went from 1v1 threat to independent utility pet in pvp that can’t fight on its own but is there to decap points and rez teammates. If nothing changes, come HoT there might be no thieves really left in pvp (besides some die hards and new players).

Maybe they are trying to force us to into DrD or revenant so we buy expansion, but really what a destructive way of marketing. Besides DrD is bad. Period.

It is really frustrating. You look at mesmers that fill exact same role and they get silverspooned beyond comparison. I do not understand devs. I simply don’t. I don’t see any logic in their balancing besides blatant class discrimination aimed at thieves. Who can protect us from devs? Nobody. Only choice is to quit game or reroll.

I don’t see stealth as a profession mechanic in the same way something like steal is. It is a playstyle choice for survivability, the other major choice being evades. Many other professions have these kinds of choices. For example, mesmer has the choice to spec for shatter damage or phantasm damage, both of which have unique counterplay. With this analogy, getting revealed as a thief is similar to having your phantasms cleaved down as a mesmer. Sure, it hinders you, but it’s part of the game, and you work around it.

please name me a class that has attack that requires stealth….

It’s not listed in the tooltip, but there is a 10 second CD per ally. Ignorance is typically what gets thief nerfed. Funny that you didn’t mention anything about warrior in your post. I feel that rampages damage is still too strong.

On a short recharge, this toolbelt skill helps ensure that you are the one getting the drop on foes and not vice versa.

Well, seeing as revealed/anti-stealth mechanics (that are extremely easy to land) are being handled around like candy on Christmas to other classes while stealth is main mechanic of thief class (attacks requiring stealth, whole defensive trait line based on stealth) and they struggle vs every single class right now, i think it is time that thieves receive ways to hardcounter other classes.

My suggestion: change steal trait (example serpent’s touch) to apply Belladona effect (3? sec) – you are partially paralyzed unable to use some mechanics. Those mechanics depend class that was hit by steal.

Guardian: gains resistance to heals and blocks – meaning guardian hit by steal is unable to heal himself or get affected by block on himself for duration of the debuff.

Mesmer – unable to create clones.

Engineer – unable to swap kits, unable to block.

Warrior – unable to swap weapon, gains resistance to heals.

Ranger – unable to swap weapons, unable to command pet.

Thief – unable to stealth.

Ele – gains resistance to heals and boons – meaning ele won’t be able to receive boons or heals for duration of the debuff.

Necro – entire life force is stolen if steal hits.

Also, i would highly suggest to add trait “Cheat Death” in one of the defensive trees. Cheat death – an attack that otherwise would have kill you, brings you to 10% (arguable) HP, 60? sec ICD.

Also, i see big problem with it because atm i can double dodge/withdraw through sowrd 3 and maybe stay alive, if the spell is slower however i would need like 5 dodges to avoid absurdly high dmg from that spell. Frankly i don’t see how this specific stolen spell is actually useful vs revenant in particular.

That’s a good point, as I’m pretty sure Slow does increase Evade frames.

If I understand it right, it does.
That means Slow makes the Rev sword 3 better, not worse, since we’d have to blow 3 evades just to survive it—and would take a few hits between as well. Against a power-based Rev that may still be enough to down us in one go.

Problem with most ranger players i experienced is not that class itself is terrible but a lot of them just stand somewhere and spam 1-2…. they don’t cap, don’t rez teammates, don’t stomp, don’t bother use their pet for CC to help teammates etc. There are however few rangers that i really enjoyed playing with but they are rather exception

PvE: i just can’t describe how much i hate rangers in pve as melee class. You try to dps an NPC and ranger always has to spam their knockback forcing you to chase NPCs consistently and making killing of the NPc quite ineffective. Every time i asked rangers why are they doing it, the answer was: because i can. That was always reason for me to insta kick them.

Ranger players waited over two years to get marginal class updates. Still my favorite GW2 fan video is the Ranger Hitler video:

The community cried big salty tears over stealth for years. Thief got nerfed and hamstrung into the dirt. Then the devs gave Mesmers tons of additional stealth and are now BOSS. What did the community do? Cheered and stole mommy and daddies credit cards to buy pet rocks.

This leads me to believe the vast majority of the community are idiots.

Yeah this whole “ability +1 should keep class weak, thieves are OP because of stealth” logic is completely destroyed by the fact that mesmers exist in their current state.

GW2 should have nerfed the D/P builds or at least adjusted their method of fighting years ago. Then made nearly every other build of the thief better.

For the longest time in WvW the thief has been go D/P and gank or remain marginal in fights. There were a couple “fun” builds that could be effective in the right hands but that basically summed up where they were. This class is headed towards the old Ranger class state. Useless with a side of not needed.

D/p wasn’t issue, SA traits were (in wvw at least, in pvp nobody used them).
The thief class (e)nded (man dat forum censure is srsly overboard) in this miserable state because devs have 0 clue about the class (i mean watch POI, it is embrassing), done 0 testing with this class besides kicking helpless golems around HotM (if they ever actually did any testing, BS bug would have never go live) and they only listen to non-thieves complains…. what thief players ask/complain/leave feedback about doesn’t interest them (they needed almost 3 years to finally change LR). On top of it we get blatany lied to (see withdraw never implemented healing boost). As long as i played this game, this class been always discriminated as far as balance goes.

Tactical placement of the rift IS skillful play (for example place it on the ledge at mid point in forest or on top of the mountain JP).

Btw, shadow refuge is useless if you get knocked out of it or get his by aoe reveal/taunt (see revenants, rangers, engis).

As far as guardian walls go, you can go in melee and not be affected by the wall, you can stop to attack as well or just get around the wall :| Here counterplay. How could player counterplay complete return of all skills used by mesmers? He can’t really unless he managed to CC mesmer for veeeeeeerrrryyy long time (which is unrealistic given stealth and stun breaks mesmers have)…. Holy hell how much would i love to press F3, use up all my ini, my utilities and press F3 again to get it all back. Possibility to kill rift is not needed, really?

From pvp/wvw perspective:

- thieves are weak. Period. The fact that only discussion in pvp forums/map chats is weither thief should stay weak because of +1 ability, only amazing (not even good) aka top 5 thieves are wanted in teams and having more than 1 thief on team is usually a los just shows how bad it is. (Just to name few reasons: other classes do more dmg, have more sustain, have more tools in one build, way lower risk and opportunity costs, better defensives and by all means not that much less moblity etc.)

- elite spec is bad and underwhelming. I could list all the reasons why but there are countless threads about it. The recent posted “changes” didn’t help the case imo. Look at all other elite specs so far (besides Tempest maybe, and even their recent changes were actually positive), our elite spec is just a joke in comparison.

- you watch POI streamed by ANet and allowed to observe how dev responsible for thieves doesn’t know the traits and by the sound of it, apprently whole thief balance is based on Ruby kicking golems in HotM.

I may be wrong, but based on this observations, i just can’t shake off a feeling that thief class is either an unpleasant chore for devs or they just want to reduce thief population in pvp/wvw to extreme minimum. Why? And how long will be thief players subject , in my opinion, to such blatant class discrimination?

Please prove me wrong or at least answer those 2 questions. If nothing radically changes untill HoT, it will be really bad for this class imo. If Anet has no plans on improving the situation i would rather just quit GW2 in peace and move on to next game.

Death match is ok. Map itself is just bad, a lot of terrain bugs that prevent porting abilities like sb 5, shadowstep, steal etc.
Too many walls, too many plants in the cam – you literary can’t see wth is going on most of the time.

Go to mesmer forums, watch them begging for buffs, especially for chrono (WTH?!!??)…. because being top class along with dd eles is not enough….. man, really.

Recharge of mantras in background was anything but fine…. i am glad they fixed that bug. Nerf PU (which really needs to happen), maybe other GMs would be more interesting.

I don’ think thief is really bad, it is just other classes got overbuffed/are too strong. You would say: but doesn’t it make thief weak? No, not really. If devs did buff thieves like mesmers for example powercreep would be insane. Thief is actually relative close to balanced risk/reward/opportunity costs correlation (example, i can use head shot for interrupts, but at the same time i lose capability to do high dmg or get defensives (see BP+HS), i can use shadowstep as gap closer but i lose ability to clear condis and stun break). Other classes should be actually toned down to thief level imo. Right now playing almost all classes is very forgiving and you can have many things in one build (moblity, CCs, heals, high dmg) w/o actually sacrificing anything/much. It is really bad balance but then again devs probably don’t care about balance, they care about selling HoT.
