This change needed to happen. PU was way too good in its current state and was overshadowing other GMs. You can complain about having lack of survival when you can’t blink out leaving clones, lose invul/blurred/multiple CCs spells and will have to go in melee 90% of the time to do dmg (so like thieves).
Even thieves that are supposed to be master of stealth don’t have traits increasing stealth by 100%, they have indeed trait that increases stealth by 1 sec but only granted by stealth spells like refuge, his, blinding powder; combo stealth like bp+ hs don’t fall into that cathegory.
Also, as stated above pledge is bugged soooooo…..

simple 20% dmg buff not going to change anything
we have to actively react to miriad of passives from other classes while having ourself little condi removal/heals/no protection/invuls and no access to survival due to consistent revealed spam

Oh wow, this is probably first positive news in months…. I actually thought it was intended algorithm that punished you for having higher win rate than 50% and would put you on absurdly bad teams vs really good team so you lose enough to go back to 50%.
This will be huge improvement for solo players with high MMR. Thank you (if it actually works).
Hopefully no more defending 2 points by myself while entire team is being perma farmed at spawn point; no more 3 ppl on my team chasing 1 mesmer on beach and getting wiped; on the other hand i won’t be able to solo 2 medi guards on thief (lol) while defending mid point anymore (yes, that happend) xD

The problem with stealth is that there is little to no counter to it. Reveal will provide a hard counter (too hard, by the looks of it) and, of course, thieves will have to be completely rebalanced to take this into account. Otherwise, it will be seriously nerfing thieves.
But look on the bright side of life, this will seriously kitten Mesmers
Your post makes no sense the devs buffed PU and are choosing to bring more stealth while nerfing thief in the process and introducing more reveal at the same time. There is no reasonable balance at all reveal hardcounters thief not just stealth.
It is because in devs perfect imaginary (and imo rather idiotic) world thieves should be using DrD build with evades and not stealth……. They apprently thought it would be good idea (for marketing) to punish/grief all thief players that use stealth based builds.

- Besides the Stealth, Thief is IMHO not too strong, or at least there would be better choices for a +1 roamer.
With new classes possibly getting decent stealth-uptimes for stealth-engages (engi with the stealth-gyro) and more classes with reveal (revenant for example. Also in recent times, engi got played more with reveal), I feel that Thief is gonna hurt pretty badly.

To be clear; I’m talking about stealth for the team, and even if the mesmer takes the elite and Prismatic Understanding, the stealth from refuge and the smoke-field is way beyond that.

Or they could simply change offensive (applied by enemy) revealed to “spotted” debuff like in WoW. You are still in stealth and profit from all stealth buffs but enemies can see your half visible silhuette.
Poison for example doesn’t completely prevent eles or guards from using their heals, why the hell should revealed applied by enemies deny thieves most of their mechanics? Most stupid design idea i saw since first season Cata/MoP in wow.

Doubt it…. it needs dmg mitigation mechanics… Atm we are getting carried by vamp rune safe net but w/o it the class is simply unplayable in pvp.
Anet won’t nerf other classes, so thief generally needs some defensive passives… as much as it is cringeworthy….. There is no point to roleplay high skilled thief when everyone else is overloaded with passives. After all we do pvp to win and not feed enemies. Right now thief design is to feed enemies kills. Period. Crappy design, imo, but it is what Anet desired apprently.
Doesn’t mean it should stay that way. One of my suggestion was to introduce “cheat death” mechanic which will have long ICD and will bring thief to 10%? HP by attack which otherwise would have killed thief.
Also, we need protection and more condi removal.
Thief doesn’t need more passive survivability through procs or invulns, some of the other classes need LESS of it. Raising HP pool is also stupid because it doesn’t promote skilled play at all. Protection doesn’t really suit thieves, but maybe. As it stands, in my opinion, shadow arts needs some change. Some traits should probably be added there that gives defense outside of stealth. Acrobatics is in the same situation really- it also needs changes and removed passives (hard to catch and don’t stop). You have to remember that in a team, thief is SO important, but mostly because of stealth and mobility not necessarily combat effectiveness.
Nobody had issues with thieves being effective in combat pre-patch. Besides where do mesmers fit in that have more than amazing “combat effectivness” while filling same role, relying on moblity/stealth etc. ? Stop spreading same horse crap propaganda like devs do on stream implying that +1 is role and thus thieves shouldn’t be able to fight anyone.
My point is, thieves should have fair chance to win fights vs other classes (maybe not all) and not being hopeless vs every single class in game atm. If for reaching that goal, thieves would need same braindead mechanics LIKE EVERY OTHER CLASS in this game has atm, then so be it.

Anet consistenly nerfing thieves and buffing other classes in pvp that thief degradated to a pet and is simply close to unplayable. HoT doesn’t bring any more hope. DrD is garbage from pvp perspective. I do have HoT for one of my accounts but i am really thinking about asking for refund.

I did 2 tourneys recently. Since vamp runes are not allowed i had to run pack runes. There was few times when i got insta gibbed by mesmer spike dmg out of stealth w/o any tell. I decided not to do any tournaments anymore untill either thief survival is buffed, mesmers nerfed or vamp runes are allowed in tourneys.

While I’ll let the PvP team respond to the other points here, I do want to take a moment and address this:
PvP has steadily grown in population and play hours going on nearly a year now. It’s sky-rocketed since the game went free, and the two weeks before this have been our best weeks literally since the week the game launched. We anticipate this week will be the best week login/play wise PvP has ever had in the history of Gw2.
I don’t want to trivialize your points – and our competitive team has some great reasons why things operate the way they do they’ll lay out and explain in relation to leagues soon: I do want to call out you’re using false population data to support your point.
From an ArenaNet perspective, PvP is the fastest growing part of Gw2 and had more success for us as a business in the last year than it’s had by far in the history of the Guild Wars franchise. Next year is going to be even bigger because of that success.
I’m really proud of the work the team has done and the work our amazing player community who has helped grow competitive PvP just as much as our dev team has and would hate to see that lost in this discussion.

So recently all tournaments included rule that prevents all classes from using vamp runes. Given that they are bugged atm, i agree with the rule. Now i did 2 tourney now on thief w/o the rune. To keep it short: thief in current meta is unplayable w/o safe net from vamp rune due to low survival, lack of dmg mitigation, high dmg from other classes etc.
Here is dilema: do thieves need buff in surival? Do other classes need dmg nerf? I do think something needs to change. The question is what.

Why would i say it? I did talk to some devs i met in HotM last year or so. He did say they have very little time to play this game and that they can’t objectively observe and judge how this game works while playing well at the same (also due to lack of experience due to lack of time) as players expect them to.
Lastly, i have high suspicion that class balance is not based on actual balancing logic or feedback but on markting strategy. What do devs want to sell right now? Expansion. How do you motivate players to buy xpac? Make elite spec mandatory (probably also reason why thief is being nerfed to the ground so thief players reroll revenant).

If steal could lock F skills then way to many things would have to be rebalanced with that in mind, including steal itself. So while the idea sound simple enough its pretty unrealistic and impractical to implement.

You dont have sustain but you have stealth + regen with stealth+ condi remove with stealth and best mobility in the game with decent damage. You cant have all =)
But wait i can’t gain stealth because engi and other classes have revealed spells
I can’t regen w/o stealth and frankly that regen is quite low and won#t save me from all the dmg flying around.
Condi removal….yeah about that one…. 3 sec stealth to remove 1 condi…. engis on average apply like 5 different condis…. i have to sit 15 sec in stealth to clear them……
Thieves have best vertical mobility but by no means “best” mobility….
Define decent dmg? Are we talking about 3k backstabs (because this is normal, 7-9k backstabs require might stacks, executioner, vuln stacks and squishy target)?
Have it all? Oh rly? Thief is ONLY class in this game right now that has to trade off dmg for CC, has to trade off defensives for mobility, has to trade off CC for dmg because of initiative and the way stealth works. NO OTHER CLASS DOES. Do you see thieves spamming stuns and doing high dmg and having multiple defensives with ports? NO.
Unless there is some secret build that can do it. Please show me.
