Is gold to gems rate fair in gw2?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Cyto.9401

Cyto.9401

this is a 5 second calculation.
minimum wage in belgium is 8.6 euro per hour
if you buy gems with that money it comes down to 688 gems per hour
if you convert those gems to gold you get 37g70s24c per hour

so unless you can farm 37g per hour its more efficient to get a job at macdo and do your “grinding” there. gl and have fun!

^^ I typically see this and faceplam … you’re inability to efficiently source your materials is not a reason to make it easier to get them.

For example .. you needed Cayenne peppers and you ran around for HOURS getting 2? Do you realize that you could have made the 9 silver they cost to buy off TP in a 15 minute round of Orr trash farming? The problem here isn’t that there is a lack of nodes dropping peppers ….

yup

also, there are plenty of recipes that make money even if you buy everything from the trade post. usually it goes like this:

i check my math sheet and decide what to craft this day
buy 1 or more stacks per mat required to make the crafting items (anything less is not fast enough money)
do dailies
get mats from the tp
teleport around to get the karma materials in bulk i need to make today’s recipes
go to cooking master and buy the flour/water/sugar/.. i need
craft
sell
repeat the previous, once each day, for a couple of months
buy legendary

i do agree though that the nodes should be more random.. let me explain.
every once in a while you get that gray vendor trash gathering mat right? in stead of that, why don’t it give a random mat based of a dynamic list of materials that are above the by arenanet projected price. lore wise it could be something like “oh you found a hidden cayenne pepper under these onions”. and it would balance the material prices better. also better for the farmers, cause they will be getting expensive materials even when farming lower level nodes!

i kinda agree with the idea that there is simply no other mmo that one ps gw2 yet which is why i keep logging in.

i know i’m going to play eq landmark and next once they release, and i hope they will be as good as they promise, but in the meantime ill just keep on cooking and doing my dailies, and ofc the guild missions every week. i quite enjoy living story, so i partake in that, but i do agree the story telling itself is lacking.

well EU Gandara has 1 guild called AoF (aura of faith)

we do events every wednesday and saturday, we have a lot of experienced players and we do everything though some more then others. mostly pve, and some do wvw regularly, i myself am a merchant in edible goods (cooking), a very select few do some spvp every once in a while.

we are still trying to get all the guild missions unlocked, but that is where we are heading right now! nearly have guild rush unlocked and by doing all available missions every week we hope to get to puzzles soon.

we also have TS and at least 4 girls in the guild (that i know of) and a TS server we use to organize and just have socialize in. average age is about 20 something, and because of that most of us have jobs or are looking for one :P soooooo we might be a little to casual for you, but we would love to have you if you are still looking.

somethings you might want to consider though:
ping.
pve content can be completed while guesting.

karma armor

every gold heart you complete becomes a karma vendor! some of them sell armor and some sell weapons, and some sell food items in bulk. when i level a character i usually go around buying the armor/weapons that is available at the hearts and that is better then the ones that i have currently equipped.

MMO gaming: Females vs Males

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

we have quitte a bit of females in our guild (we speak over ts so they are female or castrated males) when i asked them about that they said they don’t enjoy the gifts and attention.
but its true, in our guild i like to think people are mature enough, so we manage to keep our players, including the female ones.

they did say that we can turn down the sex jokes a little, but that happens in every guild so i think that’s just something they are going to have to get used too.

in the meantime, buy a private guild, and buy the influence (buy drinks for the city etc..) that way you will only pay less then 42s per slot for a 250 slot bank, though you can only store trade able items in there, its still great to use. also a lot cheaper per slot then bag or bank tabs. last time i did this calculation (prices have gone up even more) it was:

just a stash 10s/slot, 5g total
stash + trove 30s/slot or 45g total
deep cave 42s/slot, 105g total, all guild bank prices are stable

bank slot on sale: more then 76s48c/slot, 22g total
bag tab on sale: more then 76s48c/slot, 22g total, assuming the 20 slot bag costs you nothing

DO NOT TOUCH

in WvW

Posted by: Cyto.9401

Cyto.9401

I’m wondering about this as well. seems every time you go near and press f you get knocked back and a message pops up that reads something like “what do you not understand: DO NOT TOUCH”. if you do it enough times you eventually get killed.

it does not look like asuran or charr tech, but it might be something like inquest (red lightning) and the eatherblades (there is a cog icon in the center of it that looks just like the cogs eatherblades always use everywhere)
i also hypothesized this might be an explanation for the disappearance of the water, in other words they are pumps.
they don’t seem to do much besides make noise. i thought it might have been a drill but there is no drill bit and the bottom of the machine is solid metal with the cog pattern thingamabob. perhaps an attempt to awaken the land Kraken, with the noise it makes?

Or Anet would make dishes/food salvable, so you can regain ingredients.

I don’t mind the high prices for some ingredients. If I find something too expensive, I go farm it (what’s kinda easy if you know how) or simply use something else for leveling my chef.

some of the more expensive herbs can only be acquired by gathering a node that also drops other kinds of herbs.
the salvage food idea seems like a nice mechanic, though trying to picture a person salvaging food is a completely different thing. it WOULD work though.

maybe they just need to add the silly priced herbs to drop tables of more nodes, the more above the targeted price, the more nodes its found in?

Have you considered that that tedium is probably the only reason that baking omnomberry pies is profitable? There’s a lot of people in the game with 400 cooking (or any other crafting skill); profitable recipes tend to get made and sold rapidly until they are no longer profitable. If it wasn’t tedious, you’d probably have a lot more competition driving prices down.

i believe that having to do the calculation every time is what prevents a lot of people from bothering to craft as a ways of making money.

Why this, having to return to get certain stuff every x minutes reminds me of fb games. I may be a chef too, but strangely not instrested in this.

every once in a while would be enough, if you take my numbers it would take 100g00s00c/5s00c*10minutes/60for hours/24for days= just under 14 days to have to go and refill. now for a 100g this might be a little short.. perhaps 2s would be more appropriate. just over a month sounds about right.
you will also get items you don’t need and thus sell on the tp to people who do need them.

this is no way intended to replace going to the trade-post to buy all the materials you need, it is intended to create more supply for items that lack it.

greetings!

(for your reading pleasure, i put the suggestion itself in bold, all the other stuff is the reasons why)

i am a GW2 chef, it is how i make my money. i make plenty of it, and i like to think i have a good understanding of the hows and whys of the cooking craft in this game.

i have however noticed a trend! some ingredients are VERY expensive:
dill sprig
rosemary sprig
sage leaf
carrot (lvl 0 cooking ingredient)
vanilla bean (considering its a part of a lot of recipes, and used to be a karma item)
plenty of other examples!

a lot of these items have one thing in common, they are harvested.. now i see anet recently added a harvesting booster to the gem store, good idea. but i doubt its going to be enough.

what we need is a way for anet to regulate the price of certain items to a point where its not 16 silver for one measly herb cough dill sprig cough!

i suggest, in some meta achievement fashion, you end up saving a farmers life
(silly potential stories in a reply to this topic)

anyway you have a person working for you, and you can give him, lets say a 100g. now every 10 minutes he takes out 5 silver, and as a result, when you come to speak to him those 10 minutes later, he will give you some random cooking ingredients. every 10 minutes that roll for ingredients happens, so you don’t have to torture your farmer by spamming f near her all day

depending on the drop tables and the rarity of some cooking items, anet is able to make some herbs more or less rare than others.

IF the farmer gives you 5 carrots from the drop table at a single roll, the price might drop to around 1s each (each roll costs 5 silver, you get 5 carrots so 1silver per carrot). if you get 10 the price will drop to or below 50 copper a piece.
if anet wants rosemary to be 5s, then IF you get rosemary from the farmer drop table, you only get 1

if “the community” ends up with too much Kale Leaf, all you have to do is make it more rare.
if the price of Rosemary Sprig continues to go up despite an increased supply, make it less rare, and the increase in supply will press the price down to where it is supposed to be.

benefits:

  1. i believe it this solution might end up making some prices less silly,
  2. it could be considered an extra gold sink (the farmer holds on too your gold for a couple of weeks/months.. you might even be able to put up a “chance tax” (on average the items you receive are x% less valuable than the items you put in, BUT you get compensation in karma/luck/…),
  3. it could spread the wealth out across a lot of people (because everyone will have his own patch of dirt under the pale tree, and no one can have more than one patch),
  4. increased supply so chefs like me can make cheaper cooking items for all people to use,
  5. a way for people who cant play as much to still make money in game
  6. regulatory body for anet to have a better grip on the trade post prices, without taking away the control from the players.

these regulations might be yet another thing to do for the anet staff, but i think it might end up saving time for that same staff, because it prevents them from coming up with a bazzilion ideas to regulate the prices of individual items.

another solution is you get the pick the crop that the farmer grows, but depending on where anet want that crops price to be, it will cost more or less copper per 10 minutes to produce one of the crop. or it always costs 5 silver, but the rarer anet wants the crop to be, the longer it takes. or it will always cost 5 silver and always take 10 minutes, but the amount of the crops per 10 minutes varies depending on how rare anet wants the crops to be.

(people who played Runescape might recognize this ;-) )

thnx for reading, even if you read just the bold parts

i am a chef, this is how i make my money.

eg: i want to make omnomberry pies, so i buy 500 omnomberries and 500 butter, i go to celadon forest to get 500 lemons, which is 20 times lemons in bulk. then i go to the cooking vendor (any major city) and i have to buy 500 flour, 500 water 500 starch and 500 sugar. you buy those with 10 each click, thats 4*500/10, or 200 clicks for 500 omnomberry pies.

i do at least 4 of these recipes each day. it gets.. tedious to say the least.

protip
1) if you “select” the item you want to buy by left clicking on it once, and then click the “buy” button, you no longer have to click 2 times for every time you want to buy that item. if you get a message that asks if you are sure, align the “buy” button with the “ok” from the message. that way you do not have to move your mouse at all.
2) if you have a laptop, you can use both your mouse and your touchpad’s left mouse button to rapidly buy items, but you need to alternate.

shoutout new crafting recipes

in Crafting

Posted by: Cyto.9401

Cyto.9401

Greetings,

i am a gw2 player, who makes his money by being a chef. (also not a native English speaker)

i last posted on these subforums about the recipes they added during the flame and frost patches. the situation has not changed since and it makes no sign too do so any time soon (with spicy herbed chicken going up to 4gold a pop not too long ago). despite spectacular profits (20% or more on nearly all the recipes) the amount of the dish that gets moved from player A to player B in the trade post is very low.
why?
because there are dishes who give the same stats, but only last half as long (30 minutes as opposed to an hour), or are just simply not worth the price. the kicker is, the dishes that last half as long also are (a lot) less expensive then the 1 hour dishes. making it silly to buy/craft the flame and frost dishes.

an example: look up the price for Frostgorge Clams, and then look up the price for Truffle Ravioli. both share the same stats, except the Frostgorge Clams last 2 times as long. it also happens to be 7.24 times as expensive.

i always enjoy seeing new recipes added by arenanet, and id love to see more cooking recipes. but may i please ask for consistency:
most recipes in “vanilla” gw2 require 1 of an item most of the time, sometimes 2 (dyes being the exception). the new recipes they added require up to 30 of a single item.
chefs (like me) are not going to make recipes for a loss if we can help it. so having items that have 10x 20x or even 30x in a single recipe will not benefit the items craft-ability.

now it does not take a genius to realize this would happen, so the reason i think arenanet happened to do this is that they wanted to reduce a lot of the items who where selling for minimum before the patch. clams, mushrooms, kale, …

id ask of arenanet that they add dishes that have more original stat combinations, that are viable, with a crafting recipe that maybe use 1 or 2 of a single ingredient.
if those crafting ingredients happen to be items that are selling for prices a lot less then what anet projected them to be sold for, the initial price of the dish will be very low, resulting in it being a lot more accessible to people. more people will buy it and the backlog of “cheaper then intended” crafting materials will disappear over time.

there are currently 11 stats that can be given by food, that means you can make 110 food items which use 2 of those stats each (not counting the special ones eg: 40% chance to give frozen on crit during the night, passive heals, 12% increased burn duration, ..etc).

Marjories experimental chilly is a step in the right direction, though 3 peppercorn is perhaps a tad to much. maybe 1 peppercorn would be closer to the right amount. considering this is a very long recipe chain already.

this post was intended to point out something that might need changing, and perhaps prevent the same from happening again, so it had to be crafting OR the suggestions forum.

tl;dr chef recipes that require 10 or more of one ingredient are (near) dead content, and should be avoided in the future. new chef recipes with different stat combinations would be very welcome, but try to keep the amount of ingredients required to a minimum (less then 4 maybe?)

thanks for reading!

unidentified dye (rare)

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Cyto.9401

Cyto.9401

i recently came across some interesting numbers.

basically, making the unidentified purple dye, of the rare quality, will net you 80% of your investment as a profit. this is silly. so i wondered, can you get the new purple colors you get from the gem store dye packs from these crafted unidentified dyes? cause that would explain the prices.

i also notices something similar during flame and frost, where the unidentified red dyes (rare) would be 50% profit on investment. at the time i tested it and people where buying the red dyes for that price.

does anyone know if this is true or not, and if not, why these unidentifieds are making so much money?

bank and bag slots -> ripoff

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Cyto.9401

Cyto.9401

hello,

i recently calculated something people might be interested in knowing.

at the current gem buy prices (47800c / 100 gems) i calculated that:
bank tabs: 95s60c per item slot, 28g68s total
bag tabs: 95s60c per item slot, 19g12s total (assuming bags cost 0c, eg fractal bags)

on sale (-20%)
bank tabs: 76s48c per item slot, 22g94s40c total
bag tabs: 76s48c per item slot, 15g29s60c total

now lets compare this with the other way of storing items: guild banks. if you were to make a guild just for you, and get all the influence buying drinks for the city (20c per 1 influence) you would pay:
guild stash: 2500 influence, that is 5g total, or 10s per item slot
treasure trove: 21500 influence, that is 43g total, or 28s67c per item slot
deep cave: 52500 influence, that is 105g total, or 42s per item slot

(treasure trove also contains the guild stash, so 150 slots total. the deep cave also contains the treasure trove and guild stash, so 250 slots total.)

conclusion, cheapest way of storing items: getting as much solo guilds as you can, and get just the guild stashes.
OR get one guild with 250 slots, all for yourself, by just spending 42s per item slot by getting every guild storage upgrade. even if you do it like this, you are still A LOT cheaper then the bank and bag slot prices.

and ofc by far still the cheapest way to store items (also the most tedious) with the tremendous price of 0c per slot, mailing items to a friend asking said friend to just hit the “return to sender” button.

seems you pay a lot of money for convenience..

anyway, do with this what you will, but i like to think that the wait for the guild bank slots are worth the tremendous price difference. also consider that most people seem to expect the gem price to go up even further in the future.

Cytos-..

ps. if i made a calculational error i sure will look like a fool now wouldn’t i :P

try a lot of professions. eg. i never liked playing a warrior, but i LOVE it in gw2. likewise in wow i enjoyed priest the most, but i HATE playing elementalist. only profession i do not have 80.

movement is VERY important in this game, you can use nearly all skills while moving around, and you want to get used to “dodging” as soon as possible cause that is the difference between a newb and a pro player :P

in options turn off the “double tab to evade” function. you will regret if you do not. jumping puzzles might involve standing as close to the ledge as you can, and if you tab w 2 times to close to each other you will dodge of the ledge >_> and die

regular mobs are easy to kill, veterans are a little bit harder but any decent player can take one on his own. champions are possible to solo, but only for experienced players, the melee champs are easier then the ranged ones.
