I’m confused. The recharge is only on the returning wave. There is zero chance you are not hit by the returning wave if you are in melee combat.
OP here;
I feel some people took this thread in the wrong direction. I didn’t want to talk about the traits. The builds, specifically in terms of traits, will always change. What you do and don’t do behinds the scenes is a whole different thing. As a matter of fact I actually like the traits given to the Chronomancer, I feel they are good in terms of functionality and application. The issue I’m having and would like to discuss is directly with the skills themselves. When I play my mesmer I feel very limited in what I can use effectively in pve. Specially in high difficulty settings, like high level Fractals. For instance, mesmers lack AoE; they barely have any right now. That was addressed (sorta) with the wells, but they are all utilities. When it comes to a 1v1 sort of setting I find that I can use all my weapons effectively. However when we get in larger groups, whether I’m alone or with others, my weapon choices are drastically reduced. I had hopes that the expansion would give some new skills not only to refresh my game play by adding some variety, but also to address the fact that we’re incredibly dependent on our shatters, and in PVE they are not reliable. Like apharma.3741 mention, in many situations, taking the a mesmer into battle is not even worth it because other professions do a much better job a damage and support.
Here I am looking at the reaper and dragon hunter with their skills (many of which hit multiple targets) and I’m just thinking wtf? I don’t mean to say that the the skills for the shield are bad, but we deserve to have the rest of our bars filled, and the rest of out issues addressed.
We got 2.5 skills (echo of memory is 1.5 skill). Adding in the rift means we got 5 skills.
@Kent: Pretty sure you’re slightly wrong on the mechanics. I believe the wall moves out a set distance in the direction of your target. If the target happens to be close, it’ll move past it and hit it twice anyway. I’d also actually expect a maximum range target to be hit twice by the stun based on how the animation goes, but I’m less sure of that.
You are right, the skill is not targeting, but cast in a direction. Its one of their new moveable aoe.
It is a broken logic to deduce the state of a class from top tier PvP, when the majority of players don’t play top tier PvP. We have a certain “meta”, this is normal. But having a certain “meta” does neither mean that everyone plays the most effective nor that this is the only “meta” possible.
Does Mesmer have issues in PvP? Yes! Does that mean the class is garbage in PvP? Certainly not. Also we do not know yet, how the meta will develop in HoT.
I think this post needs to be emphasized again. Because everyone keeps reading Sticker Happy’s posts and quoting them when this one is far more concise and relevant.
I think a staff, monk type specialization for warrior is pretty likely. A martial artist.
I think you don’t read into the specialization news. Because that has a 0% chance of occurring. Staff went to Ranger
I edited my previous post but ill add this here too. This doesn’t have a target limit. Your mantra cannot stun 30 people. This can.
Edit: Also remember that in normal conditions you will be hit by the wave once, and your allies twice. Your targeted enemy will be hit once and EVERYTHING between you and the enemy will be hit twice.
(edited by Daniel Handler.4816)
Um, do you think an elementalist never benefits from phoenix? I am also confused where alacrity is coming into the conversation. You realise its also projectile destruction. So two casts of the skill is 4 stuns and and projectile lockdown on anything between you and the target.
Edit: This is a non pulsing wall based aoe, its target limit is infinite. The only requirement is that it probably wont stun or give quickness to things that already have them.

A tempest would blur the lines between attunements. For tempest every time you attune you proc the bonus of all attunements you have traited. Anything that uses the word attune or attuning will proc as long as it has been traited for.
So Water Magic, Fire Magic, Tempest
Any attunement could cause the following to happen
fire aura (20% chance), sunspot, healing ripple, remove 1 condi.
The stances that fill the utility slot could be Fire, Water, Air, Earth. When a stance is active it counts a you being in that attunement. And you gain the same bonus as those mentioned in the previous paragraph when the stance is activated.
So Fire: deal 10% more damage and every skill you use grants you might.
Water: those around you regenerate health, 20% more damage to vulnerable foes
Air: move 10% faster, gain 150 ferocity,
Earth: you gain 120 toughness, you cannot be crit
Obviously the numbers need to be tweaked but the huge benefit to stances in this way is that it would hypothetically stack effects that proc based on attunement like evasive arcana or most of the glyphs.
With the inclusion of IP as baseline I no longer feel as much pressure to include mirror images into the build, as such feedback is a possible utility. One could theoretically go mantra of concentration, feedback, and blink
No reason there can’t be two manipulations as elites. I’ll point to Necro, and Guardian.
I will be doing Dueling, inspiration, Illusions
Desperate decoy, blinding dissipation, deceptive evasion
(shatters can crit and I’ll be applying one stack of confusion per crit)
Menders purity, restorative Illusions, shattered conditions
(I sustain through shattering, this is versus PU where you stop using damaging shatters while in stealth as they reveal you. The longer I’m not in stealth the more I can contest a point.)
The pledge, malicious sorcery, maim the disillusioned
(this brings condi removal to an ungodly level even disregarding possible utility skills. The possibility to remove at least six conditions every ten seconds is quite cool. The amount of torment and confusion we will apply is insane.)
I have stopped using traits I would not be able to use when patch comes. So no more clone death. But remember you will be able to pick up three grandmasters, so it’s okay to keep using DE.
As was all of the condition/boon manipulation minus the drawbacks of the Necromancer chasis.
This is inaccurate. Revenant can only copy conditions they cannot transfer them. They can also not remove them from themselves in that stance.
CD on weapon swap is still in effect though, so this is not nearly as OP as it may seem.
Also reminder that the playstyle of the dervish was incorporated into the revenant.
bump because vanity.
Trouble now is what sacrifice to make to get the slow access and other chronomancer benefits.
Duelling/Chaos/Chrono for condi interrupt builds.
Duelling/Illusions/Chrono for condi shatter builds.
Duelling/Inspiration/Chrono for condi phantasm builds.Done.
I must stress slow is very very bad for condirupt. Remember one of our main conditions is confusion which loses dps because skill activations are 50% slower.
bump because vanity.
Wouldn’t one use sword because of the teleport? I can think of a number of tricks that use teleportation and the shield wall positioning effect.
Was the slow condition ever mentioned?
This.^
Also does the shift reset it’s own cool down? Could you infinitely dodge by spamming f5?
Also moa is ours, just like plague is necro’s. Its elixir x people, its suppose to copy a transform skill.
But with this our moa is probably longer and can be done from 1500 range. While theirs can probably only be done from 600 range. (Moa def gonna be a manipulation)
6 Dueling, 6 Chaos, 6 Illusions
Pick up
Duelists Discipline, Blinding Dissipation, Mistrust
Master of Manipulation, Mirror of Anguish, Chaotic Interruption
Persistence of Memory, Phantasmal Haste, Blinding Befuddlement
Rune of Perplexity
Full Rabid
Either Sword Pistol+gs, or sword pistol +staff
Sigil of doom, energy+doom, energy
You kite like a boss, and stack insane amounts of bleed and confusion, all while continuously stunning and immobilizing the enemy. If they get to close you have access to blinds which add even more confusion.
Thoughts?

On a sidenote, and slightly more on topic… who in OMFG is in/on EU anyway? I have a feeling that most (or even all) of the activity is NA-based.Some of us are. Man, does it feel lonely most of the time…
NANNAANNANANNANNANANNAA EVENT PLANNER!!!
Hellooooooooooooooooooo EUUUUUUUUU. What time on Saturday/Sunday would you be up for a similar event to this one.
No doubt mes is best paired with asuras. They even have racial skills that do confusion and 3 sec daze. I sitll regret making human mesmer until this day. Too much investment to change char now.
Regret nothing! The first Mesmer was a human, (implied by human lore).
I hope they are working on it. This is some poor PR if not only they cant make the beta work for EU but they crash ALL pvp doing it.
I think its important to note the benefit of corrupting a boon rather than ripping it. Corrupting actively punishes the celestial meta of boon stacking, while ripping just makes it harder for them to stack might.
All runes and sigils only apply to the Mesmer. The only exception is when the rune or sigil causes a stat change, that change will automatically be applied to the illusions.
Mesmers attack by:
Illusion attack by:
and Wile.5024
i watched the vid and how can you tell the thieves or rangers etc were good if they got burst down in 5 sec. maybe they just were noobish like all wvw players… sarcasm ….
but the burst omg 3k-4k dps !!!Hahahhaha take a look at the first 1v1 theif fight for example:
- Fight took over a minute NOT 5 SECONDS
- Several bursts were needed
- Both anticipate others movements and counter
- All skills and utilities are used
- Mesmer is at an disadvantage due to thief s/d
- Bursts did around 75% of thieves hp everytime, 80%+ the final blow THIS DOES NOT EQUAL 3000-4000hp You think straight up lying about the power damage is a good idea?Your thief fight on the other hand: 10seconds, 1 diversion shatter (lol) from t4 stealth…. thief did not dodge or cleanse or do anything, he just spammed aa with confusion and run a circle before dying…
Both the mesmer and the s/d+p/p thief on the wvw sunburst vid show much more skill than you in any of your vids. Any player with at least some experience can see that right away.
A lot of empathy right now for people I have raged at. Reading your post made me feel sick. In fact all your posts in this thread are hostile. But you aren’t the only one with unnecessary hostile posts. I think this thread should just stop. The point was made. Let the thread die. Preferably come back later with more data.

Not quite BlackDevil, it was advertised to locks all skills except 1 and stun breakers. Its slightly different from forced attacks. Opponents still have the choice to sit through confusion or use stun breaker (which deals confusion damage unless stun breaker is tied to condi removal). It does, however, advertised to cause opponent to run towards you so torment still synergize well with taunt.
Any videos on taunt yet :P?
This is new info to me. Thanks.
No torment on it please – as said, it would have too much of a knock on with things like MtD.
Just buff the confusion duration, perhaps add slow when HoT gets released – ie it’s meant to be “frustration” so it should make the enemy frustrated. :p
Adding slow would negate the increased duration as the enemy would execute less skills. I think the cc you are looking for is taunt as it would force the enemy to execute skills.
@chaos, a suggestion – anyone repping OMFG with a teacher rank or higher are able to answer questions or direct to someone specific. Obviously this idea extends beyond the guild but thought it worth mentioning.
Nuuuuu why you add more work. I nominate Rytlock for specialising in administrative work for EU Mesmers.

PS Add me to generalist please. Best place for someone who doesn’t need a build editor to remember the trait spread.
(edited by Daniel Handler.4816)
edit as bump, trolololo.
In my vision chronomancy focuses on the use of glyphs
Traits:
Heal
Utility
Elite:
“I shape sound from silence, space from void, ether from mist. Chronomancy!”
Trait: All glamour pulse slow. (Update of the specialization, time warp is now considered a glamour for all purposes. And an inactive portal has had its bugs fixed. So yes people standing on your inactive portal are permaslowed, sue me).
Elite:
Glyph of time: for 12 seconds all illusions that are shattered, overwritten, or destroyed, will reform a second after dissipation at their spot of death, targeting their original target. If an illusions target is dead it will not reform. Phantasms reset their attack on reformation. And rules of priority still apply.
utlity:
glyph of space: for five seconds you reflect all projectiles and displace all melee attackers.
glyph of sound: you aoe taunt (1s) , then every up illusion aoe taunts (2s)
glyph of light: stealth (3s) aoe reveal (10s) , removes revealed from caster
glyph of mind: convert all conditions to boons and boons to condition on the targeted enemy.
I think our profession will become much more valuable following the expansion as an anti-revenant counter class.
1. Revenant : Malyck stance relies on resistance to protect itself from its self-conditions.
2. Revenant: Super awesome elites, with no cooldown, but long cast times. They temporarily give the revenant negative energy regeneration.
The list goes on, but all I’ve learned about the class makes them seem like easy prey. This was our job in gw1, to burn energy, and it will be our job in gw2.
(edited by Daniel Handler.4816)
3-Ether bolt
18-Illusionary wave
Will edit when finished, but its an IE torment build. You stack torment and cripple, and use pushes to reset distance. Classes with melee abilities and no teleports will be walking towards you constantly, but at a much slower speed.
I would like to go through some of the pros and cons of making the distortion given by the trait triumphant distortion reflect when used with the trait masterful reflection.
pros:
*mesmers gain a buff to their ability to use phantasms as body blocks
*the language of the trait is less confusing. as it stands in the tool tip this is another IE where it doesn’t work but no explanation is given.
cons:
this would counteract the buff given to rangers, an indirect nerf is still a nerf. given that they did not fix this when they updated the trait to give phantasms the second of distortion it is possible they do not intend for it to work with the other trait (@see communal defenses, one of the other traits that mentions allies but does not give boons to the user)
So what are you thoughts on the matter? Should the trait be fixed or should its tool tip be updated?
Illusionary Bump
Me Games, get off the forums and get back to WvW. We don’t want to lose to Dzagonur. Stop slacking.

Nope ^ rallied.
Good lord. I thought that was the animation for when a clone is overwritten. I went from shatter to using PU condition and I always assumed that the smoke was standard.
Through some part of fate I have become the event planner for EU. If you are an EU player please complete this short survey.
1: What day of the week would you prefer group activities to be on? And at what time on that day?
2: Order the following from what you would most prefer to least prefer in a group activity.
-pvp
-dungeons
-fractals
-pve events whether it be temples or world bosses
-exploration (jumping puzzles, breaking out of maps, easter eggs, build testing, theory crafting)
-guild missions
-buffoonery (creating dance/music parties, going to heart of the mists and using the mirror blade + transformation to make an army of costume formed clones attacking the practice golems, performing one of the previously listed activities like jumping puzzles but performing while drunk)
3: What is the name of your server?
4: Are you a member of [OMFG]? If yes, how often do you rep [OMFG] when it is not the repping day?
Edit-
5: Do you want to be an EVENT PLANNER!!!!!

This popular soup is one of the most rancid smelling soups imaginable. WvWers be warned.
Can you post the build itself?
Mimic copies 12 boons. How is that possible when there are only 9 boons in the game?
Isn’t the phantasm suppose to also reflect with masterful distortion?
For the thieves among us smokescreen is amazing and you should be using it. Daggerstorm+smokescreen+caltrops= get the kitten away from me.
The point is that it could have been a blast finisher. But we got muddled in the feedback. And mimic is the prime example, we want them to do the opposite of this occasion. we want a mundane skill to be fancy (again).
Bump. So they mentioned this as a thing, and asked for our opinion. And rather than go with Chaos’ suggestion of simple answer little explanation we gave answers the devs found "’crazy’[sic]‘’. My favourite of these was the suggestion that mind stab produce a smoke field. Given that the possible combo fields per class hasn’t changed much at all since the beginning of gw2, I can understand the “crazy.” But look where that got us, we got the easy answer. And the easy fix to mindstab. How many people are happy. I feel like we need to work on how we talk to the devs.
Its a kitten they buff ranger projectiles but take away mimic.
This is just a yes/no feedback (pardon the pun) to get anet to reverse the change.
The duels for this need some sort of parameters? Perhaps a witness from OMFG? Magical giant.8650 is a guildy of mine, I beat him in pvp recently, does that mean I’m number one? Also does build have to be constant?
