Tequatl

I’ve started to learn that the time it takes to kill tequatl in relation to how early you entered the instance has sort of a skewed bell curve with an extra spike.

The 1 hour group generally gets it done, but they aren’t perfect
The 45 min group mostly merges with the 1 hour group but otherwise does slightly better
The 30 minute group tends to be just SO close to instant phase burns but not quite
The 15 minute group usually does it flawlessly with 9 mins to spare
The 10 minute group starts to drop back out of the instant-burn
The 7 minute group fails one of the last batteries and drives completion time down to 20 secs left
The 6 minute group doesn’t fail the battery but still drives it down to 4 mins left
The 5 minute group has about a 50/50 chance of either failing or seriously making almost record time and killing it with nearly 11 minutes left

(In my experience)

Moral of the story, don’t show up an hour early. Aim for about 20 minutes. If you find you’re late to that, give it a try anyway. The less time you wait, the less it hurts when there’s a crash/lagout and the smaller the window for a crash/lagout.

(Extra note: If you recognize my username, you probably have seen me complaining about Tequatl in the past. Now that it no longer takes an hour plus to get prepared, I’m OK with it. I like it even. Maybe one day that will be the story with Triple Trouble.)

still no first person view?

DarkWasp.7291

New skills/builds, content and skins are absolutely needed if they want to increase the longevity of the game. A FPV will not keep people coming back like new content will.

While it may have its novelty, FPV is not needed, nor should it be considered over other content or QOL issues that are in the game, some from beta.

I understand the OPs desire for FPV, but I think realistically this will probably never happen, much like mounts. There’s a thread about it every other week or so. I think it would be much more constructive to focus on things that could have a much bigger impact. Just my 2 cents to throw out there.

It should be considered equally with other QoL issues.

Some players don’t like to stop and smell the roses, but others do.

The feature is small and should be easy to implement, but the impact is actually quite large. Screenshots are a form of gameplay for some people. Sometimes they do really good, others see them and become more interested in the game.

This feature is probably not as easy to implement as you think. What about dodge rolls, rotating abilities, camera hopping when in combat, disabling FPV in certain areas, etc. Just because its a small feature doesn’t mean its not complicated. Any time something is changed causes a ripple effect in software which could cause even more problems. There’s a multitude of things to consider with this that people are just not thinking of both from a technical perspective and an implementation perspective. It slowly adds up to being a complicated issue just to have better screenshots. IMO thats not worth it when there’s things like WvW and PvP that really need some love and are core elements of the game.

People say “oh just turn it off in combat”. What happens when you are running around and something attacks you? If its behind you and you didn’t see it and if its a champ or vet then you may go straight to death cam.

If that all becomes that much of a problem, it could turn off while moving. It could be a held-down key that doesn’t allow you to move. Again, IF that all becomes a problem.

At this point, we’ll take it any way we can get it.

And don’t worry, you aren’t going to see any of the game’s balance devs on this issue. They have different teams for different things.

Most of the thought-out suggestions for FPV involve it being disabled during combat. This can be done a number of ways, but the most obvious is already in the game. There’s a jumping puzzle in Iron Marches that can snap your camera in close or far. There’s a system with world bosses that allows you to zoom out farther than normal. In other words, use the system that’s already in place to dynamically change how far a player can zoom. If a player enters combat while zoomed in, the camera zooms out.

If FPV poses a problem in WvW… well just don’t have it in WvW (yet.) Don’t have it in PvP at all.

Here’s why it’s needed:

1. Screenshots – Tyria is a beautiful world, it’s a shame we have to /sleep in a corner to get a picture of it.

2. Looking up – GW2 is not one of those games that failed to detail the vertical. Ever looked up at the inner walls and towers in divinity’s reach? Ever done it with your character hidden?

3. Planning your next step in a jumping puzzle – Also opening up the ability for devs to create puzzles that may have harder to spot locations or even hidden targets to shoot

4. Looking at other players and NPCs – Without having to run behind them and swoop the camera all willy nilly

5. Looking out windows – The devs put some windows in the game that you can see through, but at the moment your character is always in the way.

6. Getting more into the world itself – If the game was all just about combat, why did they bother putting in unique pots, trinkets, desserts and other details into the world?

7. Removing an inch of sexism/racism – Because some races and genders /sleep their way out of pictures than others (Yeah I know I’m stretching it here :p)

Welllll… Actually when you look at this way. Sure, first person view isn’t needed. Just like new skills/builds, new content and new skins aren’t needed.

GW Veterans missed out on items due to RNG?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DarkWasp.7291

DarkWasp.7291

This is the reason why, for the most part, I like the way we get legendaries. Aside from the precursor, you can work on every other component of it little by little.

There’s never a point where you have to say, “I really wanted this but I’m never going to get it, now I’m all out of goals for this game.”

When I was a kid I used to want there to be exclusive skins that pretty much only I had. I grew out of it. These days I strongly support things like the sclerite back item coming back into availability.

I’m alright with sellable things being in complete RNG, because every gold coin you make is at least progress toward it.

Problem turned into refreshing experiance

DarkWasp.7291

It’s a good idea with any game, especially RPGs.

It’s kind of what made so many people’s childhood seem so much better than today when it comes to video games. I understand fewer games were streamlined, and instant map travel wasn’t really a thing in the past, but that’s not all.

When I go back today and play old games that I played as a kid, I find that I’m beating most of them in an hour or less. I might even surpass my past progress in a game and think, “Wow, so I really was too stupid to figure this out?”

However, what is a 1-hour experience now used to be months of being engulfed in every corner of the map, replaying the first level a million times, doodling characters/objects from the game instead of doing my homework and fantasizing that I will find a secret in the game that nobody else has found.

I played a lot of game demos over and over again.

Truth be told, the best way to experience a game is to not stress about experiencing it to the fullest. Else you’ll find yourself watching hundreds of youtube videos, rushing to max level and freaking out whenever a new temporary dungeon comes out and nobody has posted how to do it yet. The funny thing is, while doing that you’re missing thousands of dialogues and neat locations.

On the flip side, if you stop and smell every rose twice, you may never make it to the top. You might not ever experience some of the endgame content at all. However, if you don’t let that bother you, you could transform all of that stress and burnout into months or even years worth of enjoyment.

There is still merit to both play-styles though.

CDI-Guilds- Raiding

in CDI

Posted by: DarkWasp.7291

DarkWasp.7291

A few reward ideas:

Guild Merits and Guild Commendations could be rewarded if 3 or more guild members participate in a raid

For general purposes, the basic reward structure of a raid would look like this:
Untradable → Tradable → Untradable → Tradable → Legendary Trinkets

Starting off with accountbound rare quality items. They are mainly a constant in forge/salvage material, but they would consist of one or two completely fresh sets of weapon skins. These skins would be fairly basic, not much different than you would expect from the greens and blues you pick up while leveling. The important think is that they be elegant, simple and exclusive to each raid. With enough attempts at the raid, you’ll have all the skins unlocked in no time.

Next would be new tradable named exotics similar to the ones added to champ bags. You’d probably get dropped an average of 1 every 6-7 failed raids or 1 every 1-2 successful raids.

After that, we delve into accountbound ascended territory. There’s a chance at the standard ascended stuff just like fractals, but there would also be a few exclusives similiar to Tequatl and Triple Trouble.

Then we jump into a new concept, sellable ascended weapons that are about as rare as Tequatl’s Hoard. The skins on these would be pretty fancy, almost legendary. They do not drop in boxes and all have Assassin stats.

Finally with raids we could have the addition of a new legendary type, trinkets. Depending on how the raids are developed, different portions of it would reward different parts of these legendaries. I’m thinking they would go in the necklace slot but occupy the other 4 slots as well, leaving only the back item slot open (so you can still wear back items). Or they could be a thing where you have to collect all 5 legendary trinkets to get the full visual effect (that way each could be individually stat swappable). They should probably be a little bit less complex than legendary weapon crafting and lean more toward completion of tasks and far less toward materials and gold.

Passive magic find boost that starts at +0% and increases to +100% by the time you get to the last stage of the raid.

Charged Mystic Forge Stones A rare drop that can be combined in the forge with three ascended rings for a chance at a variety of things ranging from: Mystic Clovers, Stat selectable ascended rings, 5-20 globs of ecto, some sort of fancy new mini .etc

New craftable armors and outfits that require materials earned only in said raids.

DarkWasp.7291

Chris, can you provide a baseline definition of “raid”? What exactly is the intention behind creating “raid” content that cannot already be expressed in terms of existing dungeons or fractals? Is it about creating another category of content that is gated to guilds?

Here you go:

‘…instanced co-operative group based ‘challenging’ content…’

Chris

This seems to conflict with the title of the thread, which implies “instanced co-operative guild based ‘challenging’ content…”

I would just like clarification on that.

Should raids be restricted to the guild level that require some form of guild activity/currency to activate/enter, or should they be accessible by anyone? What are your thoughts on that specific?

I’d say:

Anyone can start or join a group for one.

However, guild should have features that help organize them.

3. I tend to judge people based on how they make their characters look. And despite doing it on occasion myself I dislike when people make skimpy outfits.

I have an unusual rule for my elementalist. I never let her armor break in front of other players. She has all of my instant repair canisters. If i’m around friends, I’ll use diving goggles when we run across them. However, if there’s a random person out there, I let them get out of sight first.

A few times I slipped up, but in all but one case it was only boots/shoulders/helm/back items.

How do I make a beating heart emote?

LOL yeah I am EXACTLY the same, did level 20something fractal once and ended up condi’ing the anomaly to death while running for my dear life.

Best in game moment of my life!

First time my guild did fractals above level 9 we brought a necro who hadn’t even done level 1. By the time we got to the boss at the end of the ascalon fractal, he had died so many times he had only his boots left.

However, the boss wiped us all except for him and he managed to almost survive the last 40% of the boss’s HP. His final dying attack (while downed) applied the condition which killed the boss.

Keep or Sell ToT bags?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DarkWasp.7291

DarkWasp.7291

A little MMO economic advice here for event items:

a. Sell while its hot – if you’re saving for something
or
b. Try to enjoy the event more and open them yourself

Do not save holiday consumables and do not look back. More often than not, the demand of holiday items drops almost as much as the supplies do when the event ends. Panicked investors keep the price down for a long while.

When the price finally does raise, assuming you saved banks full of the stuff, you’ll probably have made only up to 50g more. Is 50g (after inflation) really worth several full bank slots?

There’s a reason TP flippers tend to make more money than plain investors. Their buying and selling is day-by-day. Investors have to look toward a theoretical future and when that future finally comes, was it really worth all that time?

TL:DR
Yes, you’ll probably make a little more if you wait, but it won’t be worth the wait. Keep farming and keep selling if you want money.

Is boycott the answer?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DarkWasp.7291

DarkWasp.7291

The problem with many of us “the community” is thinking with money.

There is a side of ArenaNet that is more financial based, and there’s a side that is more gameplay based. We can’t pretend like the gameplay side doesn’t exist.

So that’s why things like boycotts and “I WILL NEVAR BUY ANOTHER GEM” just aren’t going to get through. Also making an appeal for your suggestion by saying “this is going to bring in a lot more money” probably goes in one ear and out the other.

Instead we need to get through to developers. Marketers and CEOs aren’t the only ones making decisions in the company. It’s not like everyone in the company is seeing dollar bills fly by in their head every time they have an idea. And the people who do think that way, they generally aren’t the ones that can fix our problems.

Therefore the correct way to get the developer’s attention is: To keep playing and make encouraging suggestions.

Yes. Yes. I get it. Anybody who releases content needs to be able to take negative feedback just as much as positive feedback.

But think of this…

You wrote a book and it was successful.

You first walk into a room full of fans and they say: “We love you! I had so much fun reading this! If you write another book can we have more of [THIS]? Can we maybe have less of [THIS]?”

Then you walk into a second room and the people there say: “You’re a terrible writer! I want my money back! When you write another book it better have [THIS], [THIS], and [THIS] or no one is going to read it!”

You could either:
A. Smile and try to take room 1’s tactfully given advice
B. Try to conform to room 2 and risk dropping your appreciative fans for those which will never be happy anyway
C. Get depressed and quit writing

You want the short answer for why our voices on the forums are seemingly not being heard? It’s because this place is rank with toxicity. It smells like a truckstop bathroom. It’s probably not the sort of place a dev would want to hang around, and certainly not one to take as a sanctuary.

We keep trying to break the unbreakable rule “It’s not what you know, it’s who you know.”

Trading our “who you know”
A productive relationship with the devs
for our “what you know”
strong opinions on how we think we can fix the game

Help on my play style (New to GW2)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DarkWasp.7291

DarkWasp.7291

Healing has a value even in full DPS groups. A lot of hardcore players take runes of the scholar, which means their HP has to stay above 90%. But you won’t want to go fully focused on heals.

The only thing about GW2 (which you may or may not like) is even if you want to heal, you have to be prepared to put out high levels of DPS yourself.

If you run dungeons with new players, you can stat full heals and save the run. If you run dungeons with hardcore experienced players, they are pretty much going to live whether you heal them or not. You can still save a few situations, but in general they will work better with someone who deals high amounts of damage.

As a DPS ele, I always make sure I have at least two blast finishers ready. Two water blasts is a substantial amount of heal no matter what your stats are.

AFK Players: Identifying Them More Easily?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DarkWasp.7291

DarkWasp.7291

To be honest the one’s that bother me are not random dead AFKers scattered around the world but rather those who die, not just downed but actually dead, in an event which is taking place adjacent to an open waypoint. It would take less time to just WP and rejoin the fight than for someone to rez them, but instead they just lie there not contributing to the event.

Sorry about the tangent.

Yeah, I hate to be the “WP & stop taking up space” guy, but I understand where the sentiment comes from, and if I actually drop in a fight, I’ll take a waypoint.

Then there’s also those people in dungeons. Your party finishes a boss fight and resses them to 90%, then they suddenly pop the nearest WP (which is a 50 second run away.)

AFK Players: Identifying Them More Easily?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

DarkWasp.7291

Don’t worry, if you want to get back at AFKers, just res them fully. If they are really getting on your nerves, res them repeatedly. They take armor damage every time they die.

My personal resurrecting rant is this:

People who don’t rally. I’m always saying out loud (to myself [like a crazy person {because I can’t type and fight at the same time}]) “If you don’t rally, I can’t help you.”

When the Labyrinth Horror is marching around with a chainsaw, I have to keep moving to not get hit. I do everything I can to kill the plastic spiders around downed people, but some fail at tagging any of them.

Otherwise for random lone downed people in the open world, I res them enough to where they can take a few hits then finish the enemy in front of them. Then I drop regen when they rally.

I even put the videos side by side and I don’t see a difference. not in the pacing of the feet, swinging of the arms, the way the weapon moves…I don’t see what you’re seeing.

Pay attention to the shoulder plates.

Notice the arms are either being swung more or at a different angle. The shoulders are clipping the weapons on the character’s back.

I don’t think at the time of the official statement, that ArenaNet looked deep enough into the issue. Chris basically said the same thing I said. In short: “Just because you are making a lot of money, doesn’t make it an exploit.”

That doesn’t mean that the devs won’t patch it, and if they don’t, I can guarantee those rats will be green instead of white next year if the event is the same.

I’m really happy to hear it.

When the fix rolls out, graph or no graph, the conversion page will become an improvement over the old one.

Is balm an exploit?

Just because you are making 1 gold per minute doesn’t make it an exploit. It just means 99% of the community hasn’t figured it out and driven the prices down.

Put the graph back in.

I’m not sure about that. I thought that was the most confusing thing in the old interface.

I guess technically I always ignored the numbers on the side. I never really put the effort to figuring them out. I just used it to see if we were currently on the lower end of a curve or not.

Another note:

While a 100 increment would be better, it still leaves amounts in the 10s and 1s un-accounted for. So I have 180 gems right now. I can no longer make that into an even 200 with just 20 more gems.

So that’s one of the issues you could expect if it’s implemented that way.

(Looks like WindFall got it first. Posts are flying here today :P)

The interface did need adjusting, but not at the expense of freedom.

Yes it was confusing. Yes it was a little buggy.

How to fix?:

Leave its current functionality in.
Put the graph back in.
Put a custom amount section in too.

Thus you’d have the new and the old.

Rares and the forge

I am not a big fan of the mystic forge for precursors as it is all RNG.

Well, it is the main source of them so you can either forge them yourself, or pay others to forge them for you.

You forgot the third option which involves arranging human skulls and votive candles around your computer and chanting to the precursor gods whilst spamming map chat in LA with current events or political agendas.

Don’t knock it until you’ve tried it.

When someone tells me to join TS I’m like, “Uh sorry guys, I’m playing without sound at the moment.”

15 minutes later I’m saying, “Man, the music is really good in this game.”

Fortunately no-one has put those two together yet.

Why are we still playing?

Honestly, one of the most frustrating things is what keeps me playing:

I have about 1,700g. I have a bunch of plans which that 1,700g could completely cover. (Emporer title, fully ascended gear on all characters and certain skins.)

HOWEVER, I know new legendaries are coming eventually. I don’t know when, and I don’t know if I’ll like them enough to bother. Either way, I’m saving my T6s and 2,000g.

Once I exceed 2,000g, I’ll be able to slowly fund some of that stuff.

If I craft/buy a new legendary outright, it won’t help me stay in the game. Because instead of “here’s this new thing to work toward” it’s “here’s this new thing I already got.” On the other hand, if I spend all of this gold and succeed in my other goals, I risk losing interest before the new legendaries come out.

Otherwise, the most important things that keep me coming back:

  • My characters – I love them so
  • The combat system – is the best
  • Because it’s “my other life” – part of me always resides in my primary MMO, all other MMOs and video games are more like fun diversions

It’s not that complicated.

Say you like chocolate bars and you like pizza. WvW is pizza and PvE is a chocolate bar. 100% map completion is like a chocolate bar with a pizza mashed at the end of it.

For most people, they’d prefer to have them separately.

The two just feel so unrelated that adding one to the other just doesn’t sit well.

The way this page reads it made me feel like you dont even want to do holidays and that its “Interfering” with you Living Story…

The way it was worded/written is what got me. (this might just be me, But I was really trying to see the good I promise). But Doing a hype of LS not so good talk about the 2 festivals (That I care about more than LS b.c they are MORE FUN.) and then more LS talk with the way its phased makes me feel they dont care about festivals.

I just tried reading it again. I don’t see it.

Evon Gnashblade.

It’s because he lost the vote against Ellen Kiel, despite the fact that the vocal crowd was for Evon.

The idea of WvW map completion was to have players drawn to WvW.

It’s not having that effect.

Unnoticeable effect on traffic. I think most people only return to check on MMOs when they aren’t currently playing another MMO.
