All is in the title. While the target limit (or its absence in this case) is strong for some situations (like WvW), the poor stealth duration and the long CD makes this utility unusable in any other situation.
I believe veil would make more sense with a halved CD (45) and 3s base duration. I don’t see how this would make it OP in any situation, what do you think?
Yes surely that wouldnt make it OP as all kitten in WvW. 5 or so Mesmers to permastealth a zerg woopwoop.
The long cooldown and short duration is there for a reason. You can already improve it alot by speccing glamour and PU. In smaller scale, decoy is meant to replace veil. Its a large scale support skill, not something you are supposed to bring to sPvP.
Your math is questionable at best. 3s base * 1.5 = 4 point 5 s with PU. 5 mesmers * 4 point 5 s base = 22.5s of stealth. 22.5s of stealth on a forty-five second cooldown = permastealth……..oops.
5 or so. Well, lets see. 45 cooldown / 4 point 5 s per skill gets us a neat 10 mesmers to permastealth a zerg. Not quite 5 or so.
Buuuuut that’s actually wrong too. Since you can’t overlap veils (you won’t get stealth unless you’re not in stealth), even the most perfectly coordinated veiling will still leave snippets of visible zerg to see moving around. Additionally, any set of 10 mesmers capable of that sort of split second coordination deserves to be able to almost permastealth a zerg.
Actually you can use a veil twice. Which cuts your 10 down to… 5 or so. I never said the zerg did it while moving…
As a sidenote that I missed to point out earlier, veil cd was 72s last I checked. Not 90s as some say.
30v40v40 is an oddly specific number rather than settle for the fact that EB is lagging in that matchup.
And It seems like it always is :/
Okay okay okay, what if:
Static Field, Line of Warding, etc had a maximum of 5 targets. After hitting the target cap they disappear.
A well timed CC-bomb can still be quite effective, but now it takes into account the target cap and you can’t take down 25 stacks of stability on 80 people, just by having enough Guardians and Elementalists.
Thoughts?
While this is an interesting idea, I would not vote this to be the solution. Biggest reason is I feel as though all that would do is split ur zerg up awkwardly as some get hit by tons of CCs and some then won’t. I’d prefer a more static solution.
Uhm… isnt that how it supposed to work? Melee clear the cc by eating it, backline can move… Unless the backline is the target of course.
IMO that would be pretty decent way to reduce some of the infinite cc, but at the same time one need to rebalance cooldowns on these skills as well (lower cd but burn out fast).
HoT wont divide the WvW community too much. Most of it is PvE and the rest “free”. This isnt like your average MMO expansion, with a new tier exclusive to anything else.
it was 100g but character bound, then players complaint, then Anet bow to their request to make it account bound, and make it with options of color, but increased the price , hence the 300g.
Not quite accurate, you forgot the immense backlash from players because Anet wanted to make it 300g per color, ie 1200g to get them all. The community had to fight Anet with tooth and nails on this, it was nothing Anet “bowed” to originally.

Yes, that would be EoTM.
In theory EoTM could be the only WvW that GW2 got (lets assume its been designed not to be karma train, as opposed to now), but you would loose the heart and soul of WvW – the feeling of being in a war and the community effort around it. Megaservers EoTM style completely ruin that. No way around it.
The only way this would work is if you completely redesign WvW from the ground up and tbh… I have no idea how exactly one would do that and make it work as good as current WvW. That probably a 100 page design document on its own. There is no single line answer to “WvW megaserver?” other than a resounding “NO!”.
Interesting that nobody mentioned the amazing amount of healing you can dish out with Druids and Reventaurs (Ventari Revenants) as a factor that will contribute to the new meta.
Healing doesnt help when the enemy Guardian 11111111 train start rolling/judging over you. Zergs currently have “enough” healing with waterfields and empower. Other classes will only come into play if they can be extremely usefull at one specific thing, like the ele stun, or provide an insane amount of dps.
Revenants hasnt impressed me, but I suppose if Druids still can instakill people on live with that solarbeam thingie they have some use in focus parties.
10K badges is quite alot of ranks and kills. Getting 300g is probably going to be far easier. It is a sizeable cost, yes (when it was 100g I thought it was insane, but you couldnt farm nearly enough gold as you can now), but its not that hard to get. Especially not if you are backed up by larger guild.
Also, getting 300g, tagging up and leading without experience would be better than no commander and 30 people afk queuing. Any commander is better than no commander. Think he is a PvE scrub that got gold from his sugardaddy? Well dont follow.
Having the option to reduce gold cost in favor for baddges would be a good idea. Like, 300g or 150g+kittentonofbadges.
Roaming will surely change but zerg meta is far simpler than class meta. You need melee and you need ranged. Zerging will behave the same regardless of what classes is behind it. Either you have a 50/50 setup, ranged heavy (ie pirateshipping) or melee heavy.
The biggest question mark is the guardian. If the bow turn out to be effective, we’re looking at 90% guard zergs, lol. They already make up a vast majority of melee trains, seeing as warriors are so rare nowadays (its not really GWEN anymore).
The great mystery of data regarding more players online during Saturday is whether or not NA Prime queues are higher on Saturday compared to Friday. My gut feeling is that queues are lower or not as long. This may be the result of players logging in for dailies rather than to rally with a guild.
What mystery? Its weekend the day after reset. Many, many more people will log in 8-23 than 20-23 on Friday reset. The time before that on Friday is almost dead, no one plays WvW seriously then. Queues will of course be lower Saturday when its spread out over many times the hours as reset prime.
As many others have said, its the out of the blue curveball from Anet by this announcement and saying its permanent that has us all fuming.
At the very least, you can offer us a boon by saying you will kitten up something equal for PvE and sPvP.
For PvE, I suggest removing dodging. Its worked fine for 3 years now and the netcode is pretty stable, so there is no longer any real need to dodge in PvE. There might be impacts for HoT with the new on dodge skills, this will completely avoid the issue.
For sPvP, I suggest removing both unranked and ranked queues. Let everyone join from the server list instead. Yes, its easier to join via queuing and its worked fine for 3 years, but why do we have it really? Its working decently, but joining servers work too. Plus, with no queues HoT class balance issues can be ignored, only casuals play servers anyway.
For all the people claiming so hard that they are representing everyone: here’s a poll on the WvW forums that are being officially recommended by Anet for anything related to matchups, thus quite a lot of people at least know of this forum and is representative of at least a portion of hardcore WvW players. It is not representative of the whole WvW whatsoever but I mean, if we’re gonna assume we speak for the majority of people let me at least show you what this side thinks of it.
Lol only 67 people has answered the poll. “Representative”. The discussion on reset came up during friday reset when we had more people than this on a single border TS channel. Guess how many where positive of the change? I will give u a hint: its a number between 0 and 1 with a 1 person margin of error.
I fail to see the point of variable shorter matchups. We already got EoTM for rapid reset matches. If you want to mix things up, vary what you play.
One week is still the most sensible choice. Not too long as to tire out players, not too short to make it feel meaningless. The nightcapping issues in WvW has little to do with the length of a matchup, thats all on its inability to scale PPT when there is a low population, causing runaway points when no one can defend.
If you want more people to experience the rush of reset, have more resets.
Also, have reset on Friday, give employees Friday off, have them come into work on Sunday instead. Bam, extra day. Just an idea :-)
Let EU have reset Friday night EU time.
Let NA have reset Friday night NA time.
Let OCX have reset Friday night OCX time.
Let SEA have reset Friday night SEA time.Have four glicko ratings, one for each peak time and arrange matches based on peak glicko instead of overall glicko. This will end “night capping”
Since there are no OCX/SEA servers, how in the world would you manage that? Re-reset servers?
Thank you for moving the reset time on NA servers back to an NA prime time. I look forward to the xpac and new content. Thanks for listening.
They not listening, they’re just manipulating the community.
They announce that saturday evening resets is going to be permanent, everyone has a stroke, they announce an even worse reset in the morning, everyone complain even more and when they backtrack on that… people are suddenly is happy and give them thanks?
Yeah, that’s them manipulating you. This new promise that they will “look into it” basicly mean kitten you we’re sticking with Saturday because we kittening say so now shut up and be happy about our generous change of heart, we did what the community wanted.
I get that the realease of HoT is a big thing, we all do. They want to ensure that its smooth by delaying WvW reset. Perfectly reasonable… for a week or two.
No one would have complained if Anets original post would have been “Yeah… so we’re releasing HoT and need shut down WvW early and delay reset until Saturday evening. Sorry. It will be back to normal Friday evening the following week”.
We all get together, shoot the kitten, and get ready as a group for reset.
Yes, a friday night without sacrificing kittens wouldnt be the same.
There’s no such thing as a 1 humped camel. Its a dromedary.
atleast they didn’t buff arrow cart damage….
Arrowcarts are buffed by proxy with the removal of guard stacks. For player combat its all a fair an equal change (1v1, ZvZ, doesnt matter), but in player vs arrowcart they cant reach the HP only matter o the recieving end of the arrows. This apply to all siege used against players from a protected position.
So yes, they are buffing arrowcarts as well.
Stacking sigils were changed to give five stacks per player kill (might be the same in pvp, no idea).
This is indeed an sPvP thing, WvW got it as well.
Anyway, yes, WvW has seen changes – some great, some good, some not so good and some pretty bad.
It still wont change fact that a kittened idea is a kittened idea. Some of their sligthly less than kittened ideas could be argued, but when they go full kitten? Nope. Cant defend that no matter how much good they done before.
Or what about a 5 way fight? or 6? or 8?
Its all the same above 3, really. That is the lowest number you can have to create an unbalanced war scenario. So it wouldnt really change anything. At best, it spread out the ppt score (assuming same max ppt as now) but it offer no real solutions to ppt scoring, coverage most notably. 4 way battles would have the same exact issues if one server dominate low pop periods.
Playing on an NA server in the EU timezone, the new reset time is in the middle of our prime-time. So I’m not complaining anymore. Nice work Anet!
Maybe that is their plan… Sacrifice EU for the good of NA.
They are like the parents that know exactly whats good for you and tell you how to do everything… When you are 40 years old and living in another country.
Some has mentioned that this new timing is a “compromise”.
No.
A compromise is an agreement two parties reach together when they dispute something. There is no dispute about this. The customer is always right and I think a vast majority want reset night to stay as it is. Anything other than that and Anet is dictating the change.
If a majority wanted a change, a compromise would be another matter.
Thank you for your feedback. We realize that no time we pick is going to work for everyone but this change is going to benefit even more players overall while at the same time giving us a little more breathing room to improve the quality of the game during the week.
You know what would give you even more breathing room? Release the PvE patches that has a tendancy to break WvW 24h earlier instead and leave WvW reset as is. The explanation is ridiculous and this new time even worse than an evening reset.
I think I would rather take broken WvW a couple of resets – its worked fine for 3 years.
He is Neo in the Matrix, with the importance of Morpheus.
So you’re saying that Trahearne is Superman Jesus? O.o
I’m saying he has the everyman quality of Neo, but because he isn’t the main character, it makes him bland and dull.
Oh. So he’s just Jesus then. Got it.
He is Neo in the Matrix, with the importance of Morpheus.
So you’re saying that Trahearne is Superman Jesus? O.o
They wont provide a reason, that just opens them up for argumentation. Its far easier to just announce a change and ignore the player base until the rage calms down, EA tactics. C’mon guys, we’ve seen this before, haven’t we? None of us are unfamiliar with how they “experiment” with WvW for no reason. Is this really surprising? It’s not.
Well we have made them change thier minds before.
The problem is that they keep repeating the same kitten mistake by not easing us into changes or simply doing a little polling. If Anet had posted “Do you want to change reset to Saturday?” a month ago and gotten 80% yay then maybe we could have seen this coming.
But no, WvW apparently stand for Anets world vs our world. We shouldnt have to fight them, but here we are.
The freeze bug is very well known, used to happen all the time in WvW but its pretty rare now. Do an emote (ie /dance) and you can move again.
He won’t. I want to think Anet has a sense of justice (and humor) for all the unwarranted hate he get’s and he not only stays sane, but triumphs gloriously.
Certain folks wanna make BS up about Trahearne? I hope Anet proves this lot “right”, just to spite them.
I personally hope he DOES turn into a mordrem, and ANett makes it a ruthless nut-punch to the player by making it clear that mordy got to him because of his insecurities and making him think that nobody liked him and we resented him for being the pact leader.
“this guy is a mordrem now and it’s YOUR fault, not as characters, as players.”
… would still be dancing in the streets, celebrations in every city and Quaggan children running around with Trahearne shaped ballons
There needs to be a viable defence position for siege, its just pointless otherwise.
Yes, tools used for besieging and capturing keeps… Who would have thought they could ever be pointless for defense?
Dont worry about sPvP population, it will probably get quite a boost after Anet kills WvW on weekends. Everything working as intended.
I just want to know, what is the rationale behind this change? What positive effect does Anet expect it to have?
To quote myself:
Oh.
Thinking further about it, I think I just realized the why for the change.
sPvP.
They regularly run sPvP weekend events, but with WvW in full heat it draw people away from sPvP during saturdays.
By making saturdays worthless for WvW, they are hoping to make more people play
sPvP instead.
It makes so much sense now.
Until Anet says anything to explain it, I firmly believe this is the reason.
I am fine with the change of the reset day. Fridays are work/school days for me and a lot of people that I know and we’re pretty tired late EST
So “nobody wants this” is quite fallacious, please. Speak for yourselves, people!
But how many weeks during the last 3 years have you thought “this would be even more awesome if reset was tomorrow instead, I hope Anet change it!” followed by posting the suggestion on this forum? Just curious. If you have then sure, everyone doesnt have free weekends. But most does, yes?
Oh.
Thinking further about it, I think I just realized the why for the change.
sPvP.

Exactly, nobody wants this yet the devs shove it through our throats. WvW devs seem to have lost all touch with the community. What a sad day it is.
I don’t know.. I have heard plenty of people talk about how pointless most match-ups are on Monday/Tuesday because during Friday evening to Monday morning the gap between the servers have been made too big due to some servers having more people.
Putting reset on a Saturday instead however, would mean that they cut the time in which such difference can happen quite a bit, which might very well lead to match-ups being interesting for a larger part of the week instead of just the first three days.
Time will tell.
Except that those first three days (well, drunken friday night included) is the weekend. You know, when we are supposed to enjoy our free time that we can spend on gaming?
If they want to avoid weekend as a first push, just put reset in the middle in the week instead (wednesday/thursday). But not smack in the middle of the frikking weekend, sigh…
Here is my list.
Things added that players requested and wanted:
- Commander tag colors (which we had to fight with tooth and nail to keep Anet from being over the top greedy with pricing)
Things added/changed with little to no regard of the WvW community or WvW balance:
- Everything else
Changing time stinks. Makes saturday a dead day in wvw.
Yeah, that’s the worst thing. A day when most people are free and they completely ruin it. Unless matches are incredibly even on saturday morning, its effectivly removing an entire day from WvW.
With friday reset, saturday is usually filled with battles as server fight to go past each other in score.
WvW’s reset time will be changed to be 24 hours later in NA and EU. It will now occur on Saturdays instead of Fridays.
Why? Seriously, why? Why change something like this now, after 3 freaking years of us enjoying it? I too would like to know the reasoning behind this arbitrary change.
Fridays are when people get home after a week of working, get drunk and have fun during the GW2 reset.
Saturdays nights just isnt going to be the same. Get drunk then, have a hangover all sunday.
Never underestimate drunken gaming. And dont kittening ruin WvW :/
Could this be a that Telia network hub issue again? It pops up every other month and cause disruptions only to GW2 for some reason. I noticed many mention EE/UK, but I have been experiencing massive spike lags and warping from Comhem/Sweden as well in the past 3-4 days.
A new currency is what the devs add when they officially want to give players something new and exciting, while they inofficially have to devalue players current worth because they are stockpiling too much. We see the same thing happening to guilds currency.
So really, its not poor Anets fault that you put yourself in this situation by playing WvW. You should have known better. Its your own fault.
HOWEVER, many of us are hoping for a near total re-imagination of the underwater combat system. Rather than remove aquabreathers, they should be buffed in stats to replace ALL of your armor and trinkets. That way you can have for example: A crit build above water and a condi build underwater.
That would actually be quite awesome and offer amazing dynamics in WvW (assuming there is water of course).
But we are more likely to see money sink ascended breathers that offer nothing, yes.
Just try to pull a few out, that the easiest way to cap t3 plus npc.
Or of course, bring another class. Necro for example do it easily with well bombing.
Regarding PPC, the idea also uses PPD (Points Per Defence) to work. Don’t know how the numbers would be, but basically you would gain points for defending and holding an objective as well. There are problems with this, like people not wanting to attack a defended tower, and rather go take the OTHER tower etc. It could also remove the long siege problem (for some), just not worth taking it if you can’t take it fast enough. Link this up to the defence event.
Points per defense wouldnt work either, because its impossible do define what defense really is. Defense events are often just someone that killed a guard and moved on. If a server can easily have f2p/troll accounts feeding another server with points, its not going to be a viable system.
Jana isn’t that why thieves also have blinds and greater mobility than most other classes too? I mean yeah stealth is one of but its not the only defence a thief has.
Well, you’re in a SR and an attack is incoming, you’re out of dodges what do you do? Port out of your SR? Put a smokefield into your SR while the opponent is in 1500 distance? That doesn’t work.
You can argue all you want and maybe that was what those bringing reveal skills into this game though as well: Stealth is the defense of a thief. That’s why they have no blocks or invulnerabilities.
You are out of dodges? Click a few skills and be a kilometer away from the fight. Stealth is not the only defense of a thief. They are by far the most mobile class in the game that can choose to engage at will.
Calm down.
They are nerfing salvage because they are moving resources to a less RNG system: Map rewards.
Need silk? In stead of doing whatever it is you do to get 5000 worthless greens and hoping some of them are cloth, and getting frustrated when they are not, you in stead open your map and go “okay, today there’s cloth in brisban wildlands”
And tomorrow, you play a different zone for cloth, and the next day yet another different zone.
On top of that you’re still getting some RNG drops for stuff you’re not specifically after, and selling that for profit.
It will sell for less profit because people can farm for it themselves, but you also need less money because you can reliably farm for stuff yourself.
In the end the change is that in stead of finding the one best farm in terms of loot quantity and doing it for months on end coughsilverwastesandbalmcough you get to determine your objective, and do different content every day in pursuit of it.
How is that not an improvement?
Well its not an improvement if you play sPvP or WvW… but then again that’s buisness as usual, we already know Anet only care about PvE.
I get most parts and it may not be as nefarious as it sounds (Anet want to nerf leather drops? Yeah, they can keep their kittening leather). However…
Map rewards are specific, tangible rewards you receive from playing on a map. They allow players to balance overpriced items as well as seek specific materials for their personal goals without constant uncertainty. Map rewards are pretty great but are a constant enemy of scarcity. Map-reward materials can no longer be overpriced for any extended period of time because players now have the power to push the supply when needed. This shifts the power from the supplier of a rare good to the buyer, because the buyer now has the option to refrain from buying and still achieve goals, which is what we wanted.
Can someone post an English translation please? :/
Points-per-cap makes much more sense and also avoids the complexity that a population-weighted scoring system would have.
Actually it would quickly become complicated. At a glance it might seem like a good idea, but it open up a sinkhole of potential issues with scoring. You need to throw in PPK, points per upgrade and negative points when a keep is lost in order to make it more than just +1 score swapping. Just imagine how easy it would be for 2 servers to completely steamroll another server – let them cap all the keeps, it doesnt matter. Then the 2 servers pick a couple of keeps… and start capping them back and forth to roll in the points. In fact, the dominating server will want to loose keeps in order to recap them. As long as they “spread out” to whom they loose (ie let both other servers cap, not just one) they will win when they recap. WvW style gameplay should never be about loosing a keep to get more points by recapping it.
What does that have to do with the argument that it is not equal? Unless you literally have those numbers spread out equally, it is an unequal scoring system.
Besides, what difference does it make if the total population outside of prime time is say 20% of peak times? As long as all 3 servers have around 20% of their peak, then the population is equal.
Yes, it literally means those numbers are spread out equally. That’s what 50% of max PPT mean.
Also, the point of scaling back/reducing PPT isnt about the populations relative to each other or them being perfectly equal at lower numbers – its not even about the “nightcapping” in a 50vs10vs10 scenario. Its the simple fact that current population is low and thus PPT should be low in order to avoid wild swings in points when a low amount of players are playing.
It absolutely would not treat all servers equally. The weighted changes would have to scale with each servers individual population throughout the day.
No it wouldnt. Scaled back PPT would be based on total population. Even if we make “50% PTT” below 20% max population, thats still around 200 players across all borders and servers.
BL 0.001% dropchance for sure. If its a loot drop, its going to be 0.00001% dropchance instead.
in that case i’m sure we all know how to handle this situation.
Daggerfall guards are far more effective than Oblivion guards. They yell you to death. In fact thats where they got the story idea for Skyrim from.
