WvW or MvM?

As everyone knows Mesmer is totally unbalanced.I can no longer walk in WvW and not take a burst that leaves me with 100 HP for more than 5 minutes it because I have 3k of toughness and 20k of health using engineer..

Well there is your problem. You’re never going to beat classes designed to kill other classes with toughness and hp. Its simply not good enough compared to damage. Take any class as a roaming tank you will still drop like a stone vs zerkers, while hitting like a wet noodle.

Tbh, I think Mesmer is still one of the rarest classes you will encounter on the field… But why not simply swap class yourself? Engineers vs Mesmers is pretty much sheep to the slaughter due to class design. Not enough AoE to take down clones and the range shatter tear him down.

Try something like a Thief instead. Cant shatter what you cant target. Or a Necro. They eat clones like there’s no tomorrow. 1800 range trapper Rangers can outstealth them and pretty much kill them in one burst. Burn Guardian will slaughter them. Etc and so on.

The only thing an Engineer is good at in WvW is holding a chokepoint against a solo melee player and the occasional pull, that’s pretty much it. I dont know any Engineer build that’s going to perform well overall when roaming against roaming classes.

Even with the rewards – which was 5 blooms, 3 large claws and 1 obsidian for me – its hardly worth it, lol. Considering bloom costs, you have to do hundreds of these events to buy high tier stuff.

Silverwastes give more loot in 5 minutes than this event does in 30. Hell, WvW give more loot in 5 minutes and that’s saying alot.

I love the map; I think it may need some adjustment. Once a tower/keep is held, it’s really hard to take. Just a few defenders can hold a larger group at bay. This made things actually boring at times whent there just weren’t enough people around (say 20) to capture objectives.

What an odd thing to say, considering one of the main complaints of current WvW is that a small group have trouble defending against a large group.

…Really surprised someone actually approved this new war horn audio. =/

IKR, who heard this noise and thought ‘That is a good replacement for the current Warhorn effect, approved.’? A crazy person, that’s who.

I am still curious if anyone higher up at Anet even knows this was changed. No patch note, no response in the bug forum, no response here. They are literally ignoring it on purpose. They have to be, there is no other explanation. That must mean that someone doesnt want anyone at Anet to know.

The farthorn is joke and Anet doesnt even know it.

Get rid of all walls

in WvW

Posted by: Dawdler.8521

Dawdler.8521

How about this:

Walls apply a buff to anyone standing at the top of a wall called ‘High Ground’. Players affected will takes 20% less projectile damage, 40% less AoE damage and 75% less PBAoE damage from any source that does not have the ‘High Ground’ buff themself.

That way you could fight back if enemies attack your keep, and if fights between groups happen ontop of the walls everyone will deal damage as if it is plain ground.

Then the enemy break in, they go up the walls and die because the buff still works there.

Per his idea, the buff would be nullified (both friendlies and enemies on the same wall have it).

That said, the boon would be waaaaaaay too strong. Defenders have a huge advantage on the inside of the walls – stairs act as choke points.

If they did this, I think it should be something much simpler, like say the wall applying regeneration to friendlies (to represent their “safer” location on the wall)

Megaserver guilds and WvW claiming?!

I think the point is to make a claim a very dedicated action, not something you do on a whim in a random camp you walked by.

So the correct answer to OP when a huge guild starts to want to make claims all over the place… You disable your members ability to claim so that only a few peeps can do it.

Worst Lag Since Launch!!!

in WvW

Dawdler.8521

Its definetly a new kind of lag that’s been going on the last week, consistent warping all over the place. Sometimes its completely unplayable in zerg combat. Dc for 5s, everything speed up to catch up, then 5s later it dc again, repeat. Even when such warp lag isnt seen, when engaging zergs there is a large chance it will dc for 20+ seconds and either drop you out or suddenly work like normal again.

Its starting to irk me.

Previous lag has always been skill lag and the occasional (but rare) disconnect. This is… horrible… in comparison.

Well, if its your home border and the guilds GvGing are the two enemy servers I say do what you feel like, lol. If one of the guilds is friendly, I suppose its a matter of how much you respect them. Honestly, there are other places to GvG. If they do it in an enemy border… well then they take the risk of an enemy zerg. Thats the very heart and soul of WvW. Its a war, not a WWE match. kitten happens. They can rage all they want.

On a fun note, this monday FSP zerg interrupted RS and PS GvGing in FSP home border. Oh how they raged. FSP had to go up against 5 guilds or so. And won most of the fights, hahaha. Gave us some of the best fights in a long time. Was dissapointed when the guilds ragequit

There’s never going to be “Healers” because Anet wants to push active damage mitigating support over healing.

What they probably should have done though, is made a Boon Duration stat(in addition to other mechanics that affect Boon Duration).

At the end of the day it really comes down to… Why do I need a dedicated healer when I can heal myself?

I am not 100% opposed to clerics gear being mixed in with other types of gear for example. I mean I don’t personally see the benefit as healing power doesn’t scale very well but I am not 100% opposed. I think a Zerker Ele swapping to water and then blasting a water field is plenty enough for emergency situations, which are rare enough on their own. With dodging, blocks, reflects, blinds, projectile destroying, etc. I don’t see why we should ever go full tank or heals.

Even if content becomes more challenging I don’t know why you would completely remove yourself from damage and do something as boring as pure healing or tanking. If you don’t want to be in the fight then don’t join the party.

Well technically they can go around that.

Big kitten Boss cause AoE suppression, -100% healing effectiveness (self) and frequent buff removal on players for the duration of the fight.

Thats it. Simple as all kitten.

Anet can already do something like in the game and play with encounters, but obviously they have chosen not to. “Healers” – someone that either apply alot of passive AoE heals, constant regeneration, blasting fields or skills that just plain heal (like guardian staff, or even normal heal skills that cause AoE healing) – would absolutely be required in this encounter. Hell it would even demand TWO of them if the “healer” cant top off himself. Not to mention people would probably need to pick tankier gear as well.

Well you definetly dont want to be running anything tanky unless you deal a ton of damage to boot or have a really heavy condi burn class. Its not going to help you all that much. If you actually want to do something for your server, you also need to cap camps fast enough before the enemy arrive.

Personally I recommend either going for full cheeze – a thief, mesmer or 1500 range ranger purpose built to kill solo players and little else – or tag up, find someone else on the border thats probably just as annoyed as you are and run around as a group.

Perma stealth thief vs PU mesmer

Or you know, swapping to a viable build. When I see a mm necro in wvw I time myself to see how long they last. Very rarely goes for longer than 20-30 seconds so I’m not surprised he didn’t run.
Note: I also run a necro.

“Viable” is relative. I can duel most roamers I meet and often go 1v2 (I have gone 1v3 in a T2 camp and still lasted a minute lol). Its a safe and very fast way to cap camps without using wells (which arent so good in duels). Compared to roamer classes, other necros is the worst kind of enemy I meet due to heavy AoE (I mean who doesnt have the staff?). I have better luck killing thieves.

Either way, it doesnt change the fact that thief stealth beat out mesmer stealth by far.

So yeah, there you go. Thief take quite some time to learn. We’re talking many months to even start getting used to the basics. You can check builds on metabattle.com. I really wouldnt recommend a Thief as the first class to play, but he if you like it keep working at it. After 2000 matches or something it might get better

You know, an immobilize would have gave you victory.

You know, I tried that on every cooldown as soon as I either saw him approach or about to disengage (when he was on me it was pretty much impossible, he wasnt exactly mindless with the way he attacked). Good luck getting it in when it take about as long to cast as he is visible between stealth (and that’s ignoring any evasion). I may be a little dumb – after all I always roam on my necromancer vs 90% theives, rangers and mesmers – but I’m not a complete idiot. If I was I would have lasted 5 seconds against him.

Perma stealth thief vs PU mesmer

Thieves stealth compared to Mesmer is counterable enough though.
I’ve run into one trapper thief, who was just a troll.

If you play D/P, obviously you can get blinded, but they have to leap finish or blast the smoke field to enter stealth, otherwise Refuge is so easy to spot aswell, Mesmers have much more ‘simpler’ access to stealth.

Lolwat?

Mesmer may be “simpler” because all its stealth come from button presses, but a thief has faaaaaaaaaaaaaaar more control over stealth.

As late as yesterday I ended up in a “duel” with some thief (hammer of inquisition or whatever the guild was) with my MM necro and he literally popped up, hit me a couple times and was gone in a second. 5-10 secs later he repeated it. Repeat that for about 3 freakin minutes or so. The few moments he was visible I could hurt him at least a little, but of course most of the time he came back healed. As soon as I got him down a fair bit in health, he just doubled his time in stealth. Wasnt even a stealth trap build.

Even a full PU stealth Mesmer is nowhere near this. When all their stealth is on cd, its on cd period. At least you get openings.

But on the upside, the thief was one of the few that didnt run away from me as soon as they saw an enemy approaching. Oh the irony.

Anet to sell dueling cards on TP

in WvW

Posted by: Dawdler.8521

Dawdler.8521

In WvW? No. It goes against the very principle of WvW – random chaotic war. Duels occur in war sure but its a function of two people meeting each other in open battle, not two people entering a closed arena. We generally honor duels (or GvGs) yes, but we could crash it. Thats what make it a true battlefield.

That said, I never understood why we cant do it in Heart Of The Mists waiting for queue or specific arenas in PvE cities. It would be great entertainment.

No, I am working under the assumption that people want to claim stuff in WvW. If they dont, then hey dont bother building a guild hall. Simple as that.

So why shouldn’t they be able to gain those abilities and unlocks by you know, doing WvWvW stuff?

That is a question for Anet, not me. Do you think we would be having this argument if guild halls was done by doing WvW? Errr, no.

Also, the post above pretty much state that to make a guild hall you do a guild mission similar to existing open world missions. Meaning that if your server have 20 of those tiny 3 man roaming guilds that moan so much about having to do PvE, they can all do it at the same time to save some pain. Or they can take the help of 200+ man PvE/WvW guilds on the server that I am sure have at least 5% people that can help out the scouts.

Its always been like this. You can script it so that you dont break your mouse when creating 250 superior catas in one go, but it still kind of sucks.

I’ve never understood why we dont have siege crafting options under weaponsmithing. At least that would reduce the pain to the siege guide (please Anet remove that stupid confirmation button, sigh…).

Either that or an idea I posted a while ago, where if you continue “building” on already built regular siege it become superior siege. No more craftable siege, no 10+ slots reserved in inventory for all different kinds, regular and superior… Just plain siege and dumping more supply into it to upgrade it.

But that’s just a dream.

Need to PvE before claiming in WvW?

in WvW

Posted by: Dawdler.8521

Dawdler.8521

Dawdler, the problem is that so far you could get a guild up and running wvw buffs by only playing wvw.
Now if you need GH to claim, you can’t do that, which is painful for those who just want to play wvw and not pve. If it had require pve from the start, it would be less painful, but this way…

It will literally take no time at all to fix a guild hall compared to the thousands upon thousands of hours one spend in WvW.

Its only going to be painfull for those that enjoy 1/10th of the game. There is a whole world out there – GW2 is beautifull, NPCs can be funny as hell when you randomly meet them and there is lots of loot to be had. I spend maybe 80% of my time in WvW and I still have 5 characters with world exploration.

I understand the argument, I just dont see the problem. I have little doubt that Anet have thought about smaller guilds too, it probably wont be that hard to do.

No one should have to “relax their priciples” in order to accomplish anything. That is the point.

And my point was also that you dont have to be part of getting a guild hall for your guild. No one is forcing individual players – even in a tiny 10 man guild maybe just half of them will help? If your guild leader understands why you dont want to step foot outside WvW, I am sure he wont care.

If I was that leader of a tiny and presumably friendly guild and wanted to claim objectives in WvW, I expect everyone in the guild to take one for the team and stomach PvE in order to help. If they say nope I’d be pretty miffed.

But maybe that’s just me.

Reapers are WAY to tanky

in PvP

Posted by: Dawdler.8521

Dawdler.8521

This is quite funny since in the necro subforums there are already complaints that reapers are paper…

Well the problem is they kinda need to be this tanky/sustainy if they want to stay in melee range against more opponents all the time (their intended design) without blocks, stealth, invulerabilities, mobility (for disengage) or extra dodges. So if you reduce their passive tankiness/sustain they would need some active defenses or they become trash…

I don’t know. A Reaper and I held a node against 3 ( 4 for a few seconds before he ran far ) for quite awhile. He was pretty darn tanky and while Shoutbow’s not ‘that’ great anymore, we were pretty comfortable there defending against those three others.

A regular bunker Necro can hold a node alone against 3 people for a while, so I really dont see what’s so strange about it… 2v3 assuming equal skill should be easy (unless one of them is a really, really nasty +1).

That said, I havent tested Reaper yet.

Seriously, doing a little PvE wont hurt. I know there are people that brag about how they are 100% WvW and never set one foot in PvE… You dont have to help. Really, you dont. Remain in WvW if you wish. I’m sure there are plenty of members even in the most “hardcore” of guilds that are willing to relax their principles a little and do stuff with the guild in PvE as well. If its anything like guild missions, you only need 5-10 peeps anyway.

For even smaller scouting guilds, I recommend working together – join each others guilds, make a guild hall, then make the other guild hall. It will probably go much faster the second time around. Or the third. Well, assuming there is no member limitation on maintaining a guild hall.

AMD has an advantage on the number of Async cals it can handle, Nvidia does have some other advantages. Ashes of the Singularity happens to make a lot of use of that.

Don’t forget that Ashes of the Singularity really always has been a AMD game, it was also used to show of Mantle where people from AMD and from Oxide where showing their product side by side. So I guess you have to take everything it with a grain of salt. We will see what will happen but Nvidia could come in big troubles if they sell a product as DirectX 12 while it isn’t so I guess everything is a bid more nuanced then we see now.

Pure benchmarks show Nvidia being faster than AMD at async shaders (alot faster when its within the 31 stream limitation of Nvidia and and only “as fast” when doing 128).

We need a dozen more DX12 game benchmarks before we get the full story on this.

Also, binding guilds to worlds wouldnt work. You can be in multiple guilds. A smaller number of large factions the eqvivalent of 5 or so current servers figthing it out more EoTM style… possibly. But we already got EoTM for that. WvW is good as it is. The only thing we need is point equalizers so that no server can overwhelmingly win in the first couple of days in a matchup due to coverage.

WvW Guild Claiming Upgrades [Megathread]

Dawdler.8521

‘Turtling’ is the name of the game. After 60mins, give up on ever taking that tower.

You have to contend with flying turtles, rampaging charr and the instant waypoint teleporting in the defending zerg while you attack an invulnerable gate with your disabled siege.

This swings the pendulum so far towards the defenders, the first hour after reset is the only time you have a hope of capturing anything. Then just dig in for a week of TURTLE v TURTLE.

What a sick joke.

Its good that defenders are strong. In current WvW, only one thing is OP strong in defense – arrowcarts. Only arrowcarts. Shifting this to other things like… uhm… doors… and the like is excellent.

But of course, unless they change the arrowcarts, its going to be complete kitten. Because you wont be able to cap the slighest upgraded keep with anything less than an entire borderzerg. Imagine invoulnerable door, cannons, mortars etc with 15 arrowcarts behind. Because that’s exactly what will happen. The “LoS nerf” to arrowcarts is a fable. It did nothing.

I suppose that trebs will get some more use though. Except that defenders will have just as many of them. Now if Anet disallow the building of catas and trebs in towers and keeps we might actually get some real sieges. Never gonna happen though.
