Will you fix the PPT, objectives hold and the live map for the new borderlands?
Currently PPT and objectives on the main page http://coveragewars2.com only seem to show only EB.
You cannot get mastery points by grinding!
All Tyria-mastery points are Achievements and you can get Achievements only once per account, and nothing is rewarded for repetition.
That you miss points means: you did not played some parts of the game so far. So something new to do, not some grind of what you already did.
Should you do not know where you have open mastery points: go to the achievement tab, all achievements with open mastery points have a flag (and the groups with open MP-achievements as well). Another tip: if you do not own LS2, you missed a lot MPs.

All in all, megaserver tech is a success so it serves as a great player pooling tool. It’s always fun with more players, and after all, we are taking about a player vs player environment here…
… except it would be impossible to use in a 24/7 weekly scenario where coverage decide the winner of a matchup.
1) I would prefer if “better fighting” would decide the match and not just coverage. So if mega-server technology in WvW would reduce or even eliminate the dominance of coverage it would already be an improvement in my view.
2) If we talk about “mega-server technology in WvW” we shurely do NOT get the current EotM, that would not need over a year development, it will be something else.
3) Rumors talk about alliances consisting of 3 guilds in the new WvW, that’s around 3000 people capacity per alliance. If I would be ANet I would initialize the alliances with the current servers communities, i.e. the 3000 most active player per server get a new (6th) guild called “server name”-1/2/3 and build together the alliance “server name”.
4) Alliances do only make sense, if all alliance members are places together onto the same maps such that they can fight together. That may be complicated and I’ve no idea how ANet will do it (but some ideas how it could be done) and is likely the reason why ANet needs over a year to implement it.
But if these 4 points work and are combined with a PPT that makes the score meaninful, the result will be a mayor improvement over the current WvW.
2. Why aren’t gold ingots worth about a 1000 gold coins each. Are they made of a different type of gold or something?
Oh that one is easy to explain, it’s called right of coinage and since ever this is the privilege of the rulers and/or most powerful traders and bankers. At most times in most regions of most worlds they collect your head, if you violate their right. And this makes up the value difference. Same in Tyria, right of coinage is with the Black-lion tradin company a 100% subsidiary of ANet, and if you violate it Evon Gnashblade personally give you the kick that let you exit the world.
On earth 1000€ are much more valuable than the material the note is made of. 10’000€ on you bank account have 0 material value, they are just a few bits in a few computers and the shared believe that this has a value. The same is true in Tyria the Gold-Coin is much more worthy than the Gold it is made of.
In Tyria you see the real value of gold as a material used only for a bit coinage, a bit jewelery making (and on earth also a few industrial processes like chips, mirrored-glass, …), if it value is not supported by strong superstition resulting from the historical Gold-Standard as on Earth. On Earth as on Tyria: production is much higher than demand, the intrinsic value is/should be very low.

I want mega-server, for the simple reason: It is able to provide full-maps where I can fight 24/7 and not only for 2h a day.
I also want a fixed team I can identify with, and a scoring system that makes sense to fight for.
The current server-WvW does not give me anything of this.
- scoring is only off-time PvD
- maps are to empty to find enemies to fight 90% of the time (22 of 24 hours)
- servers identification is devasted by marouding guilds and wtj (a kind of grasshopper-plague)
An alliance system combined with mega-server could be a better WvW and that ANet is working on this now since a year, gives some hope that the result will be better than the current EotM and WvW. But we have to wait to see and find out …

Every yak counts. Every camp counts. Every supply counts.
Every Roamer counts.
Until of course around 02:00-03:00 when nothing matter anymore and the smart servers go from ~200 in tick to ~600 tick within the span of an hour and getting a 20-30K or so headstart the next morning.
I don’t understand the players who play on those servers ticking 600+, when there’s literally nothing to do but drop siege, press 1 (or 2 if you use catas/trebs) and collect awful loot at a rate of less than 10% of what a PvE player gets.
… You have never nightcapped I take it? EU servers is not like the US servers, there is only one timezone. Even if your server is pathetic during the day, matches are won during a couple of hours every night. Pretty easy to understand and something that 99% of WvW players cant affect.
Yeah thats the reason I stopped WvW. Strategies, tactics, upgrades, fights all is irrelevant for the match-outcome, only the size of the nightforce matters.

you are right that wvw was best when people believed in PPT.
you are wrong that PPT or not-PPT is a matter of rewards.
WvW turned bad (started dieing) when people lost the believe that the current PPT measures something meaningful. in fact we all know now that PPT measures nothing else than off-time (esp. night) population. A competition based on “who has more people at night” and “who does faster PvD” is nothing anyone is interested in.
To reanimate PPT-WvW you therefore do not need rewards for the current PPT, you need a PPT people are concinved of measuring “who (strategically/tacically) fights better”

I remember that I read that the bottles are replaced by immediate WEXP, but today I watched my WEXP while opening the chest, and I did not got anything, neither a bottle nor immediate WEXP.
1) I don’t think there is any deflation in the TP, just a shift of interest from old legendary materials to new legendary materials (esp. ascended materials) and guild-upgrade items.
2) I don’t believe the the total gold production now is lower, it’s just that some former high-income professions like dungeon selling got cut down, instead normal activities got a boost (with all the 10-50s scrap items you get to sell them to NPC). So current gold-production is better distributed to many players, which is a good thing (exept for the few high-income professionals that got cut ).
3) I was never as easy as today to collect a decent amount of money, just pick your pick and axe and collect wood and ore. If you need lower clothers/leather go to low-level dungeons (AC, TG, …) and scrap all items.

As positive results I would count:
- the new wvw-based server population (It may not be perfect, but at least for EU it improved thins a lot)

The new BL-map was always a player wish by many people, but so far probably not really a success

- senseless since mega-server,
- broken since wtj-transfers before season 2
- corrupted since a growing amount of people have accounts on several server
It’s overdue to get rid of servers. Just that ANet seems to have no idea.
And maybe extend (but I was not there to look)
- abandoned by players since HoT
Range classes would be so op they will snipe every gilding player
And the non-range classes can use ballistas as AA finally they would get useful again.
So yes, gliding in the presence of the enemie is close to suicide.
On the other side you do not have to waste time with rams, if there is no enemie, just glide over the walls. (If you aren’t hit by an npc-ranger, who’s knock-back let you crash before the wall )

But yes again, non-hot would be even left out of some captures, they have to wait outside till the paratroopers made it.
I think WvW died around 1.5 years ago when the massive transfers due to season 2 (rewards) destroyed any balance and made it obvious for everyone that:
current scoring (PPT) is meaningless and scores nothing than off-time PvD force
I really wonder that WvW made it 1.5 years while (nearly) no one believes that it is a meaningful competition.
Of course this had it’s effect, people use WvW more often for something not related to match-win/PPT than before, e.g. GvG, Scrims, …
I really wonder, if the unsuitability of the EotM-Map for fights is the only reason why they still do that in WvW and not in EotM. Would the old borderlands be available in EotM-Mode would everyone be there?
Anyway, it’s not the new maps that killed WvW, it’s the meaninless scorin that did it slowly during the last 1.5 years, now it’s just obvious, especially as many that also played WvW before are now busy in the HoT expansion.
The problem is that ANet seems to be completely blind with population issues, otherwise they would have made the new borderland a complete map for all three sides like EB and the EotM map.
The WvW could be just 1 EB and 1 Borderland map and everything would be much better.
With the currently available collection of maps there are only these possibilities:
- WvW with EB and 3 new BL; EotM with EotM-map (and old BL?), i.e. current
- WvW with EB and 3 old BL; EotM with EotM-map (and newBL?), i.e. pre-HoT
- WvW with EB only; Eotm with EotM-Map and old and new Borderlands
- WvW with EB and EotM map; EotM with old and new borderland-maps
- WvW with 3 old BLs; EotM with EotM-Map, new BL and EB
- WvW with 3 new BLs; EotM with EotM-Map, old BL and EB

Then turn off EoTM and only use it if theres a real total overflow in players and only on that cluster.
You mean I have to transfer to T1_to be able to play EotM? Very bad side-effect of your proposal.
Face it: Server-based WvW has outlived its usefulness, Mega-Server based EotM is the only thing that still works a bit (it could be better balanced, if server would go or be ignored in team assignment)

A temporary deactivation of EotM for the time being would be interesting to experience, though T1 does sometimes get 4 map queues during resets and some weekend peaks… /shrug
You will not notice any difference in your WvW. A 40 ppl EotM zerg will add 2-6 people to your match, if all of them would go to WvW (which I seriously doubt).
So in mean you get 1 person per wvw-map for each EotM instance that exist.
They will feel very lonely and leave soon.
In guess a lot of people are in EotM because the felt lost and lonely and even unwanted (to follow guild groups, when no public is in sight) in WvW.

Of course now with the new borderlands as well.
The big advantage of EotM game mode (not map) is more urgently needed than ever:
Adaptation of the number of maps to the number of players that want to play instead of 9×4 (EU) plus 8×4 (NA) empty maps.

Why is it always SFR people starting these threads?
I am not on SFR nor a friend of SFR (try to grasp my signature).
Anyway a solution on this problem will reach us (if ever) long after SFR dropped to very high.
But as massive overstacking is still possible (the reason why I wrote this thread), it will hit other servers as well.
I think I assume only:
A person not playing WvW will not spend gems to transfer and a person will roughly play the same before and after the transfer, whatever this is. Timezone and day are still completely smoothed away by averaging.
And of course, if the population count is a person count it assumes implicitly that every person counts the same, which is wrong, why I proposed in my 2nd post to switch to personhours instead of persons, where the “mean personhours” is only an approximation to be used till the moving averages adapt to the new situation.

if you dont know where the bar for full is, how will you know when its crossed?
I made my computations in percent not in actual numbers, so 100% is full by definitions, it doesn’t really matter how much that is.
The only thing that’s known for sure about WvW populations is that any thread talking about that subject will be deleted.
If they send it to the developer to read it when they delete it it is fine for me
What is counted? People or Personhours
At first sight it is naturl to count people. But is this really adequate?
A 24/7 match with a capacity of 300 people at the same time has a capacity
of around 50’000 personhours not persons. How full a match is depends
only on the total personhours a server commits to a match and not at all
on how many person are involved in this commitment. In fact the more people
are involved in commiting a specific amount of personhours the worser the
server plays (400 people spending 15min per day to do dailies are the same
personhours than 100 people fighting 2h a day).
Even if it appears natural to count persons on first sight, personhours are
a much better reprensation of the fullness of a server
To combine it with the immediate transfers above it is probably sufficient to use the mean personhours of the source server to caculate the the transfer effects for source and target.
Moving Averages are always behind trend changes
A moving average is very nice to smooth variation
and the longer the period that goes into the average the smother is the result.
From the Devs comments on the intro of the new population it is clear that it
averages at least one week (such that it can smooth hourly and daily variations),
most likely more (to smooth fair-weather commitment it must be severaly weeks).
From the behaviour of it: I guess it averages one month
Let’s look what this means to the server population status.
Assume a server has 150% population of what is considered FULL
Let’s asume this is the case since a while, such that the moving average is 150 as well.
Assume further that on day 15 several guilds transfer away such that on day 15 the
population drops down to 90% of what is considered FULL.
When will the 30-days moving average drop below 100% and flag the server as very high?
25 days after the transfer happend the 30-days moving average will cross 100%.
So don’t wonder if it takes a while you are flagged very high.
This feels bad, but this is not the problem. The problem is: Any (not-full)
server has several days of overstacking till the moving average flags it as full.
If a lot of people decide to go to not-full server XYZ on a friday before reset,
they could easily stack several times as much as allowed before the server becomes
flagged as full.
I strongly recommend that transfers influence population immidiately
So immiatedly when a transfer is executed remove 1 from the moving average of the source and add 1 to the moving average of the target. Transfers are only done for WvW, an wvw-inactive unlikely spends gems on ransfers and they aren’t noise that need to be smoothed. They affect both servers immediately.

Next month WvW will get a lot of new people.

So no you don’t want the people populating EotM in WvW. I remember all these hate-threads about uplevels and TS-ignorant in WvW.

The solution is so simple and absolutely equal to all timezone: no activity on a map = no score from that map
To get X PPT from a map, your side need at least X people on the map (only people that spend the whole 15min on this map are counted).
If less people are there than you hold objectives you get only as many score points as you have people on the map, if none is there you get no score.
only a WvW player thinks this thread needs to be stickied already!
Only a WvW player knows that this thread exit and be able to necro it without effort for all the new player
Only a WvW player is able to complain about no changes on his game mode for years and hate any change already before he had a chance to try it.

Necro a glass cannon? No, No and No, Necro has the highest survival of these three classes with his different life pools. Do NOT use his minions his other skills especially wells are much stronger. Dagger/Horn + Staff and Deathshrould make all very good damage.
I don’t like Mesmer in PvE especially against many weak enemies as all clones go away on targets death. But he is strong against strong single enemies.
Dagger/Dagger Ele is very good to finish many mobs very fast and quite robust if you learned to play him. Staff Ele is the glass cannon high damage but hard to keep alive if enemies come close.
ANet has better things to do than setting up matches manually

for the probabilities of automated match making and see that there is a 1 in 5 chance of BG JQ YB and a total chance of YB in T1 of 1 in 3.
And yes I think Glicko matchmaking do a very good job. After a year of separation relative strength of T1 and T2 was an quite open question. But it currently looks like Glicko still has adequate scores.

right now but i play at night time on my free days for WvW and guilds which server would you guys recommend doesn’t have to win all the time.
For EU-Night (with is NA-prime, not SEA-prime) play: the lower in the tier you go, the more lonely you are. Auora will have around 10, FSP probably around 20-40, SFR and Deso the only ones with more.
I think you have to be aware that you observe 2 completely different situations in an identifcal way:
fairly sure if someone logs out or alt + f4 while downed then you get the kill and the loot
This should be the case if someone logs out, alt-F4’s or (unfortunately not so rare) crashes/DCs..
No loot dropped when they do this and no kill. Always been like this.
I think this happens, if someone is in queue for another WvW-map and gets and accepts the transfer opportunity while in combat.
And I think this is adequat as the player cannot decide when exactly he gets the offer, and it’s not really nice to fight with such a dialog in the middle of the screen.
Then there is also a third thing. The exit button in the WvW-Dialog. This seems to be a bug to me. While the map-buttons are dimmed and are not usable during combat the exit button remains usable. I think it should be dimmed and unusable during combat like the map-switch buttons.
