Yea good idea let players fly over the wall directly to Lordroom.

Is this really a problem? 30 secs to crush the door or a minute to find a high enough position to glide into isn’t really a difference.

But to make it a bit more balanced for the defender (should there be one):
Any hit by a player or NPC either damages (if so far undamaged) or destroys (if damaged) the glider additional to the normal damage on the player. A damaged glider has half forward speed and double high-loss, but a damage-free landing, a destroyed glider produces also fall-damage. A ballista hit always destroys the glider. A damaged or destroyed glider can be repaired at the usual Repair-NPC.

During gliding no skills can be used.

is it really “fights for survival” or “ppt for survival”?

Good point a scoring function that would make this the same would be ideal, but we did not got one during the last 3 years, even if the forum is full of more or less good proposals. Given the anounced chance for next week and the low chance of getting a better scoring function it would be PPT+kills.

This idea is brilliant and this post is the best post on this forum for the last 6 months.

This sounds to enthusiastic to be true, so is it sarcasm?

I am not happy about this proposal, I would prefer WvW to be healthy, but it is not and I see the very urgent need to repopulate the WvW-maps by reducing map-capacity via server reduction and I do not see a better way to choose server for deletion than giving anyone a chance to fight for his servers survival. Higher ranked server have a better chance, yes, but you aren’t doomed because you belong to the lowest 12 server.

You see in this weeks example that the proposal is not a rephrase of "the lowest servers should be deleted* as higher ranked server may loose their match (against even higher server) more badly.

But how about the thought that many of the people left on the lower servers, and the ones that still consider server loyalty ? Many of them might not bother moving, but instead just quitting.

Hard to say from outside if they stay due to server-loyality or because WvW doesn’t interest them enough to pay the gems for a transfer.

Should it be server-loyality, my proposal at leaast give them a chance to fight for their server instead of choosing server by random or by glicko-ranking.

If the devs are listening to people like you then no wonder WvW is dead. Bad idea after bad idea.

The longer walkways on borderlands idea is not from me, I was against it, when it was proposed over 3 years ago. Population rebalance was also not made as I proposed it. I did not proposed a new Map nor EotM.

Any other relevant change in the last 3 years?

I think there were 3 changes I proposed/supported and that happend:

  • the change of matchmaking, otherwise in the meantime all tier would be fixed not only NA-T1
  • reduced visibility (different color) of dead, after the removal of culling.
  • arrow-card line-of-sight, but this happend around 2 years after I sugested it, no idea if they made it due to me

So WvW died without any relevant idea from me implemented, maybe it would be alive, if they would have listend to me.

We have definitely to many server for the current state of WvW and with the WvW rework to be expected late this year it is likely to late for a restart.

On the otherside no server likes to be resolved or merged, so *Fight for the survival of your Server"

So make a survival competition:
- no transfers
- 4 rounds Swiss-System (as in the seasons), but without Gold/Silver/Bronze Separation
. each week the 3 server with the lowest score will be deleted.
- people of deleted server have to find a new home free of charge.

To make an example, if this week would be part of the competition and the current scores would be the final ones, then in EU Ruins of Surmia, Fissure of Woe and Vizunah Square and in NA Kaineng, Crystal Desert and Eredon Terrace would be deleted.

Afterwards we would have 12 server less in EU as well as in NA and WvW would probably be more populated.

And it doesn’t matter which server it is today, or which it will be tomorrow, what worries me is that the population function doesn’t even recognize it not talking about hindering it.

Thanks for necroing an old thread for whatever reason. But there is a mechanic that allows you to exit WvW but not log out of the game and it does deny Xp and Loot.

Tested it and it work.

I think I knew which one this is.

I hop they fix it with the next week patch as – if they do not – it will be also scoring manipulation from next week tuesday onwards, i.e. something bannable according to ANets code of conduct.

Would be to bad if from the few remaining WvW-player some had to be banned for using this exploitable bug.

Correction

Everyone that follows this guide,earns a lot more gold.

If you think this is “earns a BIT more money” then you have issue understanding what does earn more gold means.

Agreed, that’s the current difference and that’s more than a bit.
But, the more people follow the guide the smaller the difference become as the market-prices will change if more T4-5 leather/cloth than today will be produced by more and more people following this method.
Still there will be a higher gain, based on the lazy people and that was the topic of my post.

I agree, now all of you reading this ‘guide’ go open it on a lower lvl character. That way more mats come on tp, prices will lower, and we can buy it cheap again.

Which makes this whole exercise becoming pointless.

No it isn’t pointless. There are always people like me that are to lazy to

  • make a lvl 53 (and keep it 53)
  • move the bags to it and open them there.

Everyone that follows this guide

  • earns a bit more money
  • helps lazy people like me to spend less on these materials

Gliding is about to be everywhere, it will become something everyone takes for granted. Whole combats will change – the priest of grenth throws us all in the air….we glide down again and don’t outright die.

Gliding is about to move from being an interesting option to being part of the core character’s movement about the world and even in combat. That’s a huge step and we need to have WvW as being a part of it.

You are right, whenever I see a possible starting place, I want to start gliding and if end of January WvW will be the only place, where you land on your nose instead of in the air, it will be another nail in the coffin of WvW.

Please fix Inventory

I really love the new shared inventory slot, but currently it also troubles me:

  1. Since a while I am struggling with the fact that every teleport and video-cut-scene and even Vista closes my inventory (and all other open displays I’ve arranged on my screen). Please make it such that all open displays stays as they were.
  2. Yesterday I bought, the shared inventory slots. Now problem 1 became even worser, whenever the inventory closes, all bags from the 3rd onwards are closed in the inventory. Please, leave the bags as I made them some open, some closed.
  3. I really like the Oiled and Craftsman bags, however more and more items aren’t correctly attracted by the craftsman bag. I would love if the craftsman bag attracts everything that goes into bank-material (e.g. also ecto’s, sliver’s, toxic-spores, …) and nothing else (e.g. I would prefer if runes and signets o to the oiled bags)
  4. I would prefer if the rarity based boxes you can buy in fractals would be changed from exact rarity to named rarity or better (e.g. the rare box attracts rare and exotic and not only rare.)

The first 2 together now let me hate every video-cut scene. I knew when it starts, that I’ve to reconfigure all my screen and inventory oranisation again and again and again.

I guess you have fun, and yes thats the most important. Now you ask for subgoals to be succesful

  1. Garambolas Tipto first unlock HoT-Masteries by a short visit is a very good one, Pact-Mastery line is very useful. But this is a background goal, do NOT play to master it fast,it just happens on it’s own while you do other things.
  2. choose a longer time goal. This is mainly a compass to direct your activities nothing you pusue daily, it will take several months but thats the way it is. Getting your main weapon ascended would probably a good choice. This has a lot of sub-goals like profession to 400 and then 500, collecting a lot of materials. Do NOT go farming materials, but take any you hit on your way. Some you need for your goal, some you can turn to easy gold in the TP.
  3. a mid-time goal, this keeps you busy for some weeks, e.g. map-exploration of Tyria is a very good goal, you will need at least one char with all WPs if you wana do guild-missions with a guild.
  4. the daily goal, e.g.explore this map, while collecting most resources, also all the daily tasks given on the achievement tasks, Fraktal dailies 1-20 are also a profitable thing to do. A dungeon path, a story section, …. choices are quite unlimited. Contribution to your choosen longer-time goals can guide as compass.

It is a good idea. I don’t agree with the high price or the the tiny number of slots, though. A normal inventory slot costs you 40 gems if you use 20 slot bags (800gems/bag). Which means the shared slots are 17.5 times more expensive than the normal ones.

It is worth it’s price (and it’s position in the inventory), but only for a few items:

  • copper/silver-salvage-o-mat 800 gems for the item to have it on 1 char, 700 gems more to have it on all chars
  • permanent bank access (3000 gold to have it 130 gold more to have it on all chars).
  • home-instance/friend-teleport

Great invention, and now please:

  • a bug fix, that keeps my open bags open, and not closes them every time
  • a shared siege/trap bag with 1 slot (with material bank stack size) for every siege/trap item and an own window for fast access
  • a shared key bag for items like bandit skeleton keys, pact crowbars, …

I mean, I am quite sure that you could glide from overlook INTO veloka and ogrewatch. Maybe from the top of valley into bravost, from the Treb-column into quentin and outer-valley, from the SN-hill into outer-lowlands, from the low-lands-vista into aldons, from the lab to rampart …

Ok, some ballista could make up for an anti-air defense, but it would be a massive change of WvW-mechanics, are you sure that it will be a good one?

Doing the WvW-dailies should give you another 60 BoH a day. (10 ea for the 2 simple ones, 20 ea for the other 2).

Doing zerg-fights should give you plenty of BoH.

As soon as you have maxed out the elites it gets even worse. It feels like i get the proofes way faster than the badges.

Maybe a third tab on the vendor where you can buy superior siege for proofs and silver (1 BoH = 1 silver as with the normal siege vendor) can solve this. With current prices for sAC this would be 10s per proof, a bit more for rams.

@OP: I think you proposal leave out the main power of mega-server, namely time-dependent adaptation of map-capacity to demand.

In (EU-) WvW we see a few handful people in the night and several tousand between 20:00 and 22:00. The main challange (to make it good) and opportunity I see in varying map-capacity over the day.

More bank slots is never the long term answer.

£4.50 to permit additional junk build up is a terrible waste of £4.50

Not everything that needs space is junk. (And yes, I’ve my private bank-guild with full storage capacity)
Once BoHs and Bandit Crests filled up whole tabs of my bank, now they made it into my money bag

I bought a lot quartz crystal for 9c, now 1.5 years of storage later they are 4s. Every bank tab filled with them is a gain of nearly 300g

I failed to store all the silk, but sold it to the NPCs for 9c

I had more than a bank tab full of Dragonite Ore (and I started to delete it due to space limitation) before Princess came out. Now it’s all feeded (ok, mostly junk came out, but not only) …

Without a fix to coverage-wars WvW will be burried within 2016.

So without a fix to the coverage problem there is no need to fix anything else.

So look at my proposal from a point of view where the coverage problen is fixed in some way. And don’t bring just the argument, it doesn’’t work as wvw is broken.

I’ll give you a hint – the first half of each day block is 00:00 to 12:00.

In whose time zone? Yours? So the “problem” is you-centric?

I don’t know how often I’ve heared this short-sighted unfounded argument. It’s simply wrong as there is no relation to time and time-zone. Neither is the world-population evenly distributd over all time-zones, nor (or not at all) the wvw-populations of EU and NA.

The only thing that matters is: How many people play at a specific time.
And yes, in EU you have a strong correlation between time of day in CET and number of players. 19:00-23:00 is prime-time, everyting else off-time. And this is not the case because I play at that time (I played 6:00-9:00 AM, before it got to empty at that time to fight something else than doors), but because it is the only time of the day where you have a queue on at least one map.

Dawdler – you really don’t get it do you. There is no such thing as “night capping”. Players cap stuff when they are playing. Period. .

It is NOT that easy. The problem is the objective points per player that make the off-time player orders of magnitudes as impotant for the match-outcome than the prime-time player. In prime-time (once) 1200 people fight(ed) for 695 points, in off-time less than 50 people fight for 695 points.

Fair would be if whenever you play you have exactly 1 point you fight for and this was Dawdlers proposal.

I hope this will be solved by mega-server, so in the night there is one map for whole EU, whereas in prime when many want to play there are many maps.

This the the problem of WvW, it took a while, but I strongly believe that the scoring function that say – the fewer play, the more important is it for the match-outcome – is the underlying reason of the current WvW misery as it demotivate people in the long run.

Off-time domination should be fixed as well (A PPT that is always decided when the fewest people play will stay irrelevant).

I know currently PPT isn’t a good motivation at moment, but maybe it will be more important again should the mayor WvW-overhault come active (at least thats my hope).

Problem: Upgrades are absolutely worthless at moment, they are free, they are automatic and the WPs are available from start. As a result defending your possesions is as less motivated as attacking difficult target, and the karma-PvD-train is more valuable than ever.

Proposal Make the PPT-value of object depend on the upgrade.

  • T1 no value
  • T2 current value (5 camps, 10 towers, 25 keeps, 35 SM)
  • T3 double the current value

It doesn’t matter ANet if you drink 10k or sell some k.
This is RNG via Items. If it would be made via RNG then the drop rates would be that 1-5% of the player get that useless skin.
Now we have it via collection. In principle this divides the population into

  • 5% that spend solid amounts of gold to get that skin
  • 95% that earn good gold buy selling the drinks.

This is completely fine and I like that much more than RNG. And it’s a real X-Mas action to distribute Gold from the rich to the poor

Unfortunately there seem to be a not small third category

  • Trying to get it without Gold spending, as you drink what you farm you do not earn Gold, as you aren’t willing or able to spend the Gold you do not get the skin, so you cry in the forum

Bigger issue I have is with the lower level leathers, as they just don’t drop at all for a level 80 toon…

Try lower dungeons, I noticed to have much more of them when I did AC for dungeoneer quite often.

Mega-servers only consolidate the population

This would already a big achievement, wouldn’kitten

but WvW will still be plagued by the same stale scoring and reward issues that lead to population decline in the first place. They do nothing to incentivize guilds to perform a long siege (not saying there should be long sieges only that we’re forced into it sometimes), incentivizing non-PPTers to start PPTing, etc. Everyone jokes about how mega-server will make anonymous ktrains like EOTM. Alliances will remove the anonymity yet still guilds go to EOTM for fights and not to do a long siege or PPT. I can’t see that changing with just improved population. See the flaws now?

I see the flaws, 2 years ago I believed that a better scoring would have likely avoided several of the current problems. https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/wuv/Nerf-the-domination-of-Coverage/3462968

If the new population balance function (improved as proposed in https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/wuv/Comments-on-new-WvW-Population/5549029) would have been added between EotM-release and season 2 announcement all the imbalanced introduced or cemented at that time would have been avoided.

But now we also have a third problem, namely that of multiple occasion- and unlimited F2P-accounts per player.
Be happy that currently nearly none takes scoring and competition seriously and that there are no rewards enforcing that.

A reward-supported competition between servers would end in a disaster currently:

  • the new population-balance likely still allows overstacking as it likely do not apply transfers immediately to population. We would just get a new transfer to win with increased imbalances again.
  • WvW would be full of spies and saboteurs (multiple occasion- and F2P-accounts), which at least report commander positions and consume map-capacity. (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/wuv/Alt-Abuse-in-BL)

And this problem can only be tackled by replacing the open to anyone server, by closed guild-like alliances, where you can kick people with such behavior.

If we have alliance, we must not have a fixed amount, but people must be able to found new and dismiss old ones.

As soon as we have an variable amount of alliances we need grouping of alliances and demand driven map-capacity.

Then we should get also better scoring and better rewards and it could be fun again to play WvW as competitive game-mode.

I do NOT agree. Especially for coverage, emptiness and imbalance mega-server-technology (or more precise: demand driven map-capacity and grouping of alliances into sides) can do a lot.

  • demand driven map-capacity: The coverage problem is mainly one of to much map (and therefore objectives and score) for to few players. In a typical off-time situation there is e.g. 50vs20 or 25vs10 or 20vs5 … (ignoring the 3rd side for simplicity) on 4 maps results in scores of 500+:200- i.e. a score-difference of 300+ per tick. But even 50vs20 can easily fit on 1 map, e.g. EB which limits the available score to 260 and the score-difference will be even smaller. This of course also helps vs emptiness, instead of jumping around on 4 maps, they can fight on 1. So a simple freeze and shut-down of all borderlands outside prime-time (2-4 hours day, maybe 8 on weekends) would already help a lot.
  • grouping of alliances into sides Imbalance of EotM is true, but only shows how bad ANet’s current grouping strategy is. This could be done much better, especially when active population over the last rounds is counted (as it is done now for the WvW population calculation). In fact it’s a variant of a well known optimization problem for which many good approximations exist.

If both methods are combined intelligently, coverage, imbalance and emptiness would not be noticable any longer.

Do NOT buy (ascended) rings for Laurels thats a waste of good laurels. You will swim in ascended rings as soon as you do fractals.
Ascended jewelery you best get:

  • Amulet for laurels in LA (or less laurels and some bagdes of Honor (BoH) in WvW/EotM)
  • Rings from Fractals (Do your fractal dailies in 1-20)
  • Accessoires from Guild Mission Rewards (Join a large guild and do the weekly Guild missions with them)

Backpack in ascended is very expensive, Soldier-Exo-Backpack (for 42k karma) you get from Grenth Temple in Cursed Shore (or craft with 400 crafting)

For Exotic Armor look into the TP, some are as cheap as 40s.

Exotic Weapons you can get easily from PvP-Reward tracks (if you just do your PvP-Dailies you get one every 2-3 days), or dungeon rewards (or 1g plus some BoH in WvW/EotM)

Map-completion of Lvl 70-80 areas gives you 2 exotics as reward per map.

In fact WvW and EotM don"t feel like PvP (as long as you run with your group).
Enemy groups feel just like NPC-hordes, some more intelligent, some even more stupid, especiallz in EotM

How Mist War score is calculated?

Score has 2 components:
- PPT (points per tick)
- IP (immediate points)

  • PPT happens every 15min it’s the sum of all objective points hold by your team (SM 35, keeps 25, towers 10, camps 5), time till tick and this sum (with a +) are shown top center of your screen.
  • IP are given for dollies killed or reaching their destination, enemy sentries flipped, (with bloodlust from the old BLs for every stomp), once during an event week for every kill. I don’t know if currently where bloodlust is gone, there are points for stomps or kills.

So what does eotm do well?

High participation numbers and better reward pace.

The thing EotM does better is NOT higher participation numbers (I am in doubt that more people play EotM than WvW), BUT adaptation of map-capacity to player-demand, such that it feels like higher participation numbers.

In EotM you have 1 map per EU/NA if less than 300 like to play, and e.g. 100 if 30000 would like to play.

In WvW you have always 36/32 maps, if 300 want to play (every map feels empty) or if 30000 want (most people sit in queues).

Dynamic demand oriented number of maps is the trick.
