I read your last matchup thread a moment ago and was scratching my head as to why it got closed too.

As of the moment I’m writing this post, we have the closest match in both NA and EU ladders.

We can hate on each other all we want, but this is a good tier.

It is the only tiny little insignificant piece of this entire game that encourages griefers, and I am very happy that it does.

This entire game is built around casuals, I’m thankful for the few places that aren’t

Servers are locked in the same matchups right now because those are frankly the closest matches to “fair” that can be achieved with how different server coverage’s are.

If DB were to fall to tier 3 next week, and the tier 4 winner were to move up to tier 3.
I can tell you we would almost certainly win by a margin of 100,000 points or more.

I think it depends on the Tier and the server though. For example T4, CD and SbI may not be much better than T5 EB, BP and AR. We just don’t know because we’ve never gotten to play them.

Hopefully, the way they form matchups will give people incentive to start to play WvW the way it was intended. If people do find themselves in a match where one server is clearly dominant, the two weaker servers will join forces against that stronger server. Because hopefully they way they do it the loser doesn’t have to worry about getting kicked out of their tier and going to a lower tier necessarily and being stuck there for who knows how long.

There are tiers that are closer than others,
And DB hasn’t been matched against any of the current tier4/5 servers in too long for me to say anything definitively.

But in my experience with DB having fallen from tier 3 to tier 6, then climbed back from tier 6 to tier 2 (I’m only trying to illustrate I’ve changed tiers a lot), moving to a new tier is usually quite a shift.

You delivered nothing but hate and drama in a forum that you don’t belong in. Being 3rd place in a tier that is highly competitive among all 3 servers hardly means anything. Just ask FA, they are skilled but have placed 3rd in tier 2 many times. Same with TC. Please stop the unnecessary drama.

I think that DB is purposefully lowering their rating because they think they can eat up some easy points on two “fattened pigs” later on when they get whatever guilds they are currently farming for.

its not that db is burt out most of certain wvw guilds have been farming gold to assist other guilds (coming soon) in getting to db

I’m not “hiding” anything, I’m just pointing out that it’s not like DB just has some giant war chest and we’re bribing all these guilds. What’s happening is people are choosing to come here and some of the WvW guilds already here are helping them out with their transfer fees. If someone considers that dishonorable or cheap I don’t really know what to tell them. I might laugh though.

That being said, I love how DB is still getting all the negative attention despite TC’s observable population increase. They weren’t “full” two weeks ago, but I don’t see people saying they deserve to be disrespected for it.

Tell me what massive recruitment effort has TC undertaken over the past two weeks and how many and what WvW guilds have we gotten here in that time? but i think you’ll find that question hard to answer because you obviously don’t know what you’re talking about

I like how you conveniently include “over the past two weeks” in there.
TC got plenty of transfers, just not as recently as we did.

Also, maybe worth noting couple months ago myself, other officers in my guild, and my guild leader, were all very subtly and privately approached by various representatives of different TC guilds all trying to butter us up and get us to transfer off DB and into TC.
And if my tiny little can-barely-put-more-than-10-people-in-wvw-on-any-night-but-reset guild was getting attention from TC, I would wager we were far from the only ones.

So let’s not pretend TC doesn’t recruit, just like every other server.

That servers that get heavy transfers get kitteny for a while.
The worst attitudes come out during these phases.

DB is not unique in this,
FA were right kittens when they absorbed IoJ.
Kaineng was one of the worst mannered opponents I’ve ever faced while they were rising to tier 2. And that says something from someone on a server that was matched against Maguuma for more weeks than I can count.
SoS spawncamped us the entire week immediately after they poached all our wvw guilds.

Nowadays most people consider FA to be great opponents,
And from what I read, when Kaineng hit tier 2 their forum warriors shut up as well.

Kind of just have to deal with it until things settle.

Just looked at the ratings based on current scores (the end scores are likely to be approximately what they are now). DB will be losing about 5 rating points, leaving us at around 2,020. JQ, who will be in third next week, is losing about 40 points, and should end up around 2,140.

If JQ stabilizes, it’s going to take a massive collapse of either TC or FA (and at least two weeks of demolishing them) for DB to move out. The same goes for TC and FA. And considering how competitive our matches have been, that isn’t likely to happen.

The next few weeks are going to be interesting, with the spotlight on where JQ ends up- will they end SoR’s surprising push into rank 1? Will they collapse? Will they find equilibrium such that they have enough rating to stay in tier 1 and out of t2’s reach?

I find it interesting that JQ plays such a heavy role in the future of tier 2. But anyways, good fights all around, loving the match-up!

I’m personally in no rush to go anywhere; this tier has been rather enjoyable from a competitive standpoint. And while there are many out there who like to count their chickens before they hatch, I’d rather just make an omelette.

I think most of core DB would have no problems hanging around tier 2.
I’m happy we have a dedicated WvW community that’s coordinated and working towards becoming better, and I hope they continue to do so.

Tier 1 would be fun, but I’m in no hurry.

I didn’t mind the IOJ Oceanics going to FA, the CD SEA crew to TC, the NA groups going to DB. But when you stack onto an already dominant timeslot, it kinda hints that you want to
1. help push a server to another bracket
or
2. don’t want to be challenged and become stronger.

In typical fashion, it’s all fine and well when someone transfers to your server. But they’re bandwagoners if they go elsewhere. And, heaven forbid they actually left your server – then they’re maggots who were never worth your time to begin with.

Having said that, I understand poking fun at those who always have to be on the winning side. But ‘to cast the first stone’ and all that.

I was also going to point out that DB’s first week in tier 3, FA received many guilds worth of transfers and completely kittened up what could have been a balanced tier 3 for like a month.
Why?
Because they wanted to move to tier 2 and not get stomped on. (It’s almost like… it’s the exact same thing we did…)

And yet here FA are being the most vocal about our transfers.

Look look! FA did the same thing we are doing that makes it right!!! Own it DB or should i say WB- its okay to do what you do but you’ll get flak. No big deal right? Own it.

I could spend the next 6 months in tier 2.

Oceanic isnt really Mandarin speaking.

But SEA is, at least those from Taiwan and possibly Malaysia.

Singapore, Philipines, Indonesia et al arent likely to be primarily Mandarin speaking.

That said, i really dont think think any guilds would be moving anywhere, it’s just kinda weird to do so, BUT future recruitment from the Mandarin speaking population will be interesting for sure.

To the best of my knowledge, the first guilds transfered in during the last few days of our last match in tier 3, while we were already slated to move into tier 2 by a decent margin.

I didn’t start seeing CO around until the week after, I believe they were still undecided about where to transfer to during our last week in tier 3

Not even two months ago I was in a thread calling for nerfs to the Mesmer downed state because our #2 was, apparently, “too good”

It feels kind of nice winning tier 2 comfortably in the first week up from tier 3. We don’t often move up into a new tier and win that well in the first week. Especially against servers who both rolled us last time we saw either of them.

I don’t think anyone from DB can deny that they have vastly better coverage than FA or TC. Hell if TC and FA put their non-NA prime coverage together, we’d probably barely pass DB in SEA/Oceanic numbers. We’re not sinking boats, we’ve just got less people.

I think both FA and TC are both about where they’ve historically been for quite a while.

DB was already on our way to tier 2, but we definitely needed the new transfers we got. I wasn’t looking forward to being a tier 3.5 server and bouncing back and forth every week.

Players don’t have to suck it up. They can vote with their dollar and not give a single cent to Anet again. They can not recommend GW2 to their friends anymore. I think game companies need to be more careful on how they treat their existing player base.

I put something like 1500 hours in in the first 6 months, but Anet keeps making it harder and harder to like this game, so I play less and less.
They go on and on about how they don’t want to make drastic changes in single patches, and would rather tweak things to balance, and then they do things like this. Cutting off 50% of a major class mechanic’s DPS is anything but a small tweak.

It’s insulting how vastly different their promises are from their delivery.

I remember a lot about Ragnarok Online, I played it for years.

But I also remember a lot of the meta for War of Emperium being “Who has the bigger precast” and that was pretty much it. Stand inside a castle entrance and spam AoE’s on the portal the entire time so anyone that tried to invade would just die instantly.

I think people are starting to miss the point. That’s a lot of data to send to a lot of people simultaneously when we already are bumping into skill lag on occasion.

Putting restrictions on your players and your game isn’t a good way to substitute for poor hardware.

Because it’s tricky. It only takes one smart mesmer to run in behind your back and all your siege is gone.

Don’t need siege if you just wipe the attackers.

I don’t think anyone is arguing that the AoE cap should be removed and Damage should be kept as-is. There should definitely be more balancing involved.

I was joking.
Portal is a good skill to have in the game, and it adds a lot of layers to combat, mobility and tactics in WvW. Taking it out completely would be a bad decision.

Having it exclusive to mesmers is also a bad idea, hence me supporting this thread.
And Anet talked unofficially a few months ago about doing exactly this anyway; giving Portal mechanics to other classes. So I think it’s likely we’ll see it eventually. Engineers are probably a good bet.

Anet may have made some stupid decisions with this game (Countless),

But they are not completely braindead.
They put the JP in a PvP zone, they knew exactly what was going to happen.
And I am glad they did.

Getting a couple people together and breaking through enemy campers (They’re not usually that great) is extremely satisfying, and it makes the JP camping you do yourself for the next hour feel well earned :P

I’ve never gotten any good use out of the scepter.
I made a sword+focus/scepter+torch build in sPvP a little while ago that performed okay, but I ended up scrapping scepter for staff again.

But yeah, I don’t know if I ever actually hit one person for the full duration of Confusing Images; who is not going to dodge roll at least once with a big purple beam latched to their character?

I used to use Greatsword religiously but it’s got a lot of problems lately.
And I stopped using GS in WvW because I always feel like the auto-attack stands out too much; everyone knows exactly where they’re being attacked from and I always seemed to get focused on really quickly in zerg battles.
I’m convinced that was why, people ignore me in zerg fights since I switched to Staff.

I hate being asked to do portals. It’d be nice to see another class than Mesmers start getting portal duty.
I’ll portal people into a keep/tower I’ve hidden in,
Or to speed up supply runs (Those ones are just as much for me and just happen to help everyone else),
SOMETIMES I’ll lay down a single portal in the EB JP before I leave, but usually I just leave.

I slot my utility skills for combat, drives me insane to have a slot wasted with Portal.

I remember one time (I think it might have actually been the last TC match; but I am really-really not sure about that, might have been a lot longer ago) I was roaming around DBBL and a duo of level 80 gank thieves both tried to…. well, gank me.

Did one dodgeroll and popped two shatters and they were both Downed when they came out of stealth.
