^ that is actually not a bad idea. Because you want to kite the scavenger into the flame. So range isn’t bad.
And not every pug can kill fast enough. Unless you think you are good enough and have enough staility to melee it while 30 scavenger is knocking you down fill free.
I do melee but when I see too many scavenger around me, I definately range and go to the flame.
From what I noticed, it’s best to pull him in the back corner, giving the scavengers more time to kill themselves. Party goes full melee and burst as much as possible (avoiding confusion cone spray). Once the scavengers start to overwhelm you, pop stability and kite/range.
Similar to ascalonian boss in fotm.
@Masta. I was actually being sarcastic. So not sure if you were replying to Snoozy or me.
@Kimyrille. I agree. I think the dungeons should be harder, but I also don’t agree with what Anet thinks is hard. You’re pretty much spot on about dodge and do mega damage.
The new path is a step in the right direction. More mechanics and lower healthpools. The only issue I still have is the mechanics don’t change. Once everybody gets used to the fight, it will be easy.
Just like Teq. It took a couple of tries for one server to even beat him. People were complaining, whining, etc, crying for nerf. Now look at it. It’s a small challenge, but mostly everytime I do it (now) we kill it.
I think the OP has misdirected anger.
You should be upset at the people who pay, as they are the only reason that sellers are selling.
As to everybody else, I think what he’s complaining about is that he wants a normal party. He wouldn’t really care about the sellers, except for this is actually taking away from people who would normally try the dungeon. Say 20 people at the time want to do arah, but 10-15 are willing to buy the path, that only leaves 5-10 people actually willing to give it a go.
I still think we should do a front page liberation by bumping every devpost available
It would be like Christmas in July!
inb4 yes, I know it’s not July.
Now thats just leave the slower people or older people with slower reaction.
The dungeons should be for everybody to win.
Make it short, if its ppl that keep fail at boss, make it easier every try so we can win.
Been fight a boss for 3 hours and makes people give up and makes them never to do it anymore.
Yes, because we all know, nobody likes challenges. We should just complain until it’ so easy that my 6 year old brother can do it.
You know what, I’m not even mad. When I see a dev post in dungeon forums, I AUTOMATICALLY assume it’s a necro. You may have tricked me twice, but never thrice.
Yes… it’s still true.
It’s all about team comp and coordination, that’s it.
The first time I did it, our party took about 1 hour. Nobody used guides or anything. Two guards, a war, a thief, and a mesmer.
The second time was a mesmer, 3 wars, and a thief. Sounds like a good comp, but we had no communication. Even though we were on TS3, nobody was talking/coordinating, or anything. Even when we would stack the mesmer would use GS and the thief had P/P & SB. We took about 2 hours and I had to quit on the 8 generator part before the boss.
Some groups are good, some are bad. Bad groups shouldn’t be able to do it.
Guardian, guardian, guardian. They are pretty critical when it comes to smooth runs. You don’t NEED a guardian, but they make it a lot better (IMO).
Having one mesmer helps out a lot. However, 2 mesmers is usually unnecessary.
Rangers are solid in PvE as long as you’re not camping range and with bear pet.
This is probably getting way off topic (and I hope I don’t derail too much) but I don’t see what they have to offer to a party, even if it’s a good player using sword/offhand with bird or cat.
As a ranger, it’s way too much micromanagement, microgament if you will, just to get the pet not to do stupid things.
It’s great that you want to help people, but I’m not sure this is the best way to go about it.
You’re probably better off just answering topics on this forum. I think people are pretty unlikely to message you personally when they could just post a topic and get lots of answers from lots of people.
This is what I was thinking as well. Most people who post issues usually don’t read through previous posts. They just post. Check the dungeon section for F/U TA posts and you’ll see what I mean =)
Server transfers and guesting will solve this.
Guardian. Easy play. Easy to carry PUGs.
Rangers are good in sPvP, decent in wvw, and that’s about it.
As for players, many of them aren’t actually playing the game my way, they use efficient strats and watch the gold number in their wallet going up. If the dungeons weren’t giving gold, they wouldn’t even be there.
And of course, they are always harassed by the some other playerbase jealous of their “watching gold number” game until their “tactics” involves carrying them in dungeons, instead of enjoying the game itself.
FTFY
Are you suggesting that watching a number go up is just a “way to play this game”? Because I can recommend a game that does it better: Microsoft Excel.
This game is about dungeons and monsters. If your “way” is to avoid all that, than you really should be playing something else.
whoa what happened to “I play how I want”? elitism much?
Playing how you want requires at least playing in the first place. Skipping content isn’t playing, it’s actually not playing.
It’s very sad that people who hate dungeons and want nothing to do with them (as they admit themselves) are dictating how to run them. So thanks to them exploiting of design flaws and loopholes to make dungeon runs as short as possible always becomes mainstream.
Elitism much? What happened to the baddies cheer of “I play how I want”. All of a sudden when there’s something they don’t like they scream “That’s not playing!”
Skipping mobs has a certain tactic to it as well. If you do it scattered and don’t bring running/escape skills, you’re going to die and wipe repeatedly. The fact that many people complain about how hard it is, and many people say how it’s much easier, means that it’s a skill that needs to be acquired.
On a side note, this was my attempt to bring the conversation back to an actual topic instead of huehuehue #5 #4 huehuehue
What I find interesting about these debates, is that there are people on the “too hard” side, and people on the “too easy” side, but so few saying things are “just right.” I suppose what happens is that for those who found it just right, it becomes too easy on repetition, whereas those who found it too hard just stop trying and never get to “just right.”
It could also be the ‘Content people don’t come to forums’ clause coming into play.
I think that the too ‘easy people’ are on the forums getting involved in the community. They are discussing stats, builds, mechanics, etc.
The ‘too hard’ people come onto the forums to whine about getting kicked at the boss or how they can’t do this encounter because they are using healing shouts with a rifle.
The ‘just right’ people are playing the game.
“The work it takes to get an alt should be rewarded with something. "
Oh you feel deserving of something do you? Well no. Create alts for fun rather than facilitating grind.
r u an elephant?
Lol!
@Stuperdale. Why should my 2nd character be kitten from my first character. Say we both level 1 character to 80 in 80 hours. Both of us spent 80 hours. Then I level another character in 80 hours while you do dungeons for 80 hours. You now have a lot more tokens. That’s fine, because it was my choice.
Now that I have 2 80s and you have 1 80. We both run AC all 3 explorable paths. Now we both have about 180 AC tokens. I have another character I could run it on, becuase I want him to have 180 AC tokens for gear as well. NOPE! Even though It would take another 1.5hrs to do the paths, I would not get the 180 AC tokens.
That’s not fair now is it?
This game is too easy. The issue, is that it caters to so many casuals and so many bads, that they make it hard for the people who are actually good at the game.
P3 is easiest. IMO thenext would be P2.
If you want to do more power, you have sacrifice another stat, wether it being healing power, toughness, precision, etc. So your original statement is false from the beginning.
As for +5 power. Really? Do you ALWAYS run with the best food buff. Do you ALWAYS run with a +10% potion for every dungeon/mob you fight? If you do, then get the +5AR AND +5 power. If you don’t, then stop whining for the sake of whining.
You can’t say that as you don’t really know how things were meant to be played. Anet has already stated that LOSing/Stacking and skipping trash is perfectly acceptable.
If you don’t find stacking fun, fine, that’s understandable. But don’t look down upon groups that like to stack.
It’s the most efficient method in the majority of encounters. This ensures the group gets all of buffs, melee burst can go over succesfully without the mob moving, and you can easily res up the dead in a time-efficient manner.
As opposed to everybody spread out, ranging (which does less damage), where you hvae to wait 10 sec to get ressed if anybody notices, and you don’t get nearly all the group buffs/boons.
If you don’t want to stack, that’s fine, but then you should start your own group and say “No stacking strategy” or something along the lines. As the majority of PUGs will expect you to know when and where to stack.
Though in hindsight I wish I could have convinced the other two to join me in booting them.
I love how you are advocating for kicking people at the final boss.
Well it’s different you see. When he kicks, it’s because people exploit. When he gets kicked, it’s because they are jerks and can’t handle his amazing rifle skills so they add guildies banking off all his hard work carrying the 4 PUGs.
Not an issue. Move along.
Do you know what a combofield is?
Yes and it failed big time, one player wanted his combo field at the expense of the whole team.
Lol. So no
I think it’s too easy. It was fun to figure out the first time, but will only become boring.
We need something that has changing mechanics.
I also though Liadri was a fantastic fight. It was very difficult, but made you learn from your mistakes. I think stupid difficulty is tribulation mode. You still have to learn from your mistakes, but you’re FORCED into making those mistakes.
Lol guys
(Arenanet should do something against this kind of market manipulation.)/facepalm
Not this again. The dead horse has been beaten so much there’s nothing left of it!
Speculation does not equal manipulation.
Lol, not to mention the horibble misinformation of looking at buy/sell orders for demand/supply.
Try running healing shouts so you won’t need stacking, just heal them all.
^This.
If that doesn’t work put on signets so you only need to focus on doing your mega rifle damage.
If all else fails, get a guardian and spam auto with 1 to heal everybody.
YOU’RE TOO LOUD?
Wait what? Sorry, that was unexpected. Yeah I agree
<—- mesmer
Engineer or Mesmer
What is title Mesmer OP? Is that a mesmer using ele’s FGS + blink?
2 phantasm (duelist/swordsman) are already quite powerful in terms of DPS – also consider that you’re likely relying on scepter for taking some break from meele, as soon as you’re ok pop the OH phant (kill the clone) and hop back on Sw/x.
If that’s at me, I don’t want auto attack to kill my phanstasm, I’d rather have zerk, as buggy as he is. But like I said, that’s only 10% of the time, 90% I’m running sword/focus & sword/sword
I find scepter better than GS. :P
Not if you’re phantasm =)
They should just remove jump so its just like gw1. Problem solved.
I don’t know who you are. I don’t know what you want. If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don’t have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you retract this idea now, that’ll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don’t, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you – in wvw.
I don’t understand why they would do this to us. The hardcore player in me NEEDS this armor because, well, stats. The casual player in me says wtf, looks ugly as hell, no way am I gonna get that.
Then transmute?
So, they put the least amount of effort into armor design so that they could force the players to buy gems to get crystals to transmute?
Win-Win for Anet
Yeah, this is one I drug my foot on. I knew I should have bought a bunch of gossamer, silk, and leather, but I just never got around to it. Oh well.
@vol I get the first 3 on the list (as I’ve been trying to hit up lodestons/cores a lot) but copper doubloons? What’s the rational there?
Speculation about Anet introducing a mf recipe to promote copper doubloons to silver doubloons.
I bought some stacks as well but i doubt they will introduce this anytime soon.
Silver Doubloons got revised and changed after Magic Find got eliminated from gear, so my guess would be that they are working as intended. The great thing also is that it’s a high yield/low risk investment. So your losses per stack, at these prices, would be about 5-10G.
Which for seasoned investors, is nothing.
Thanks to you both.
Worst case scenario, we can just have vol make a “Omg copperdoubloons are skyrocketing, buy now!” post and all profit right?
You can start at lvl 1 if you want (you’ll be scaled to 80) but basically you won’t find a group to begin with. So wait till you reach lvl 80, get some decent gears and start doing fractal
On the contrary, a lot of people are afraid of doing fractal because elitists spread this crap everywhere.
You’ll be able to find people willing to do 1-10 fractals at any level, if you specify “first timer” in your description. Any class can do fine there.
LOL!
As for people talking about my build… it may not be your ideal Hundered-Blades-And-Rifle-Kill-Everything build, but screw that.
lol.
I have to agree though, screw all those rifle warrior elitists.
Lol, f1 OP man. Better than 100b
So you run dungeons, with pugs and want to know the best builds for you that can help yourself do lots of damage/help the team out so you’re not stuck running with 5 altruistic guardians buffing eachother constantly and doing no damage?
There are alot of great guides out there for dungeons, but the main factor you need is DAMAGE.
people say blah blah you need healing PVT guardians to support!
Myself and alot of people say GTFO with pvt guardians and tanks. So here you can discuss the type of builds you run- what you think suits you and your team best
4 dps warriors
1 dps guard or Mesmer.I sure hope that “DPS” Mesmer doesn’t use Greatsword…
Edit: As a gesture of good will, I should warn you that encouraging people to stack Warriors is the fastest way to get laughed off this forum. I understand that it is the dun thing to do with PuGs but just… Not here.
On topic, depending on the content I’d say Thief for oversimplifying trash skips and emergency revives, but pretty much anything you’re good at playing. As an example I PuG AC on Ele so I can carry lousy DPS players with Fiery Rush and frost bows.
GS might not be the best option, but it’s our best range option. Compared to staff and scepter, GS is the right option.
With that being said, if I know I can full melee the fight, I just go Sword/focus + sword/sword.
I might use GS 10% of the time in dungeons.
As for people talking about my build… it may not be your ideal Hundered-Blades-And-Rifle-Kill-Everything build, but screw that.
lol.
Classic “I play as I want” excuse for being bad.
You seem to be getting very defensive. You should have expected this reaction when you come into forums to explicitly complain and whine about something that has already happened.
You whine about people not contributing, but your build seems to contribute less. We weren’t at any of the instances you’re speaking of, all we know is that you use rifle with mace/axe and like to kitten about people that stack.
Don’t even try to defend your build, because it will get even worse.
Make sure you are not using an invisible bag.
omg thank you!! i had no idea that i bought invisible bags X_X
Lol, been there, done that =)
You can do hot join in spvp to get used to your mesmer.
The popular mesmer builds are phantasms and shatter.
Condition mesmer isn’t as strong, but it’s hella fun 1v1s and you have a little more takiness.
You can jump in wvw (bring veil and drop it in front of the zerg before a push), or do some dungeons. Tell your group you are getting back into it and they might need to explain what you’re supposed to do as a mesmer. A lot instances require a mesmer to do something special (portal through boulders, feedback a certain attack, timewarp a certain area, pull a certain mob somehwere, etc).
The usual rotation.
Boar – (hunting lodge) The ombermill wp or whatever it is called, then east.
Troll – Vale WP
Bandit (sometimes this is skipped). Follow the zerg east out of troll, then north to the Vista in the caves.
Oak – Phinney WP, then west.
Spider – Krytan WP ( I think) then NE to the back of hunting lodge
Repeat at boar, just run from spider to boar, as boar takes awhile to get started.
Keep in mind the spider is not an event. Therefore it does not scale, and dies very quickly.
Also, for boar, make sure you are helping kills boars that slow down the NPC along the way. Area swiftness will speed up the NPC
RIP in peace rifles, instead of 5 min to get to lupi for my solo tries now it’ll take like 30min-1h with my mesmer

Hate alts? You can get tokens just as fast as a person with no alts. You are not penalized or given preferential treatment by the designers.
Yes, they hate alts.
1) Soulbound
2) Time gated content
3) Laurels
4) Fotm levels
Lets look at laurels. If I want all my characters to be equally geared, I need to wait a year to get all the needed laurels. However, a person with one character, can use those extra laurels to get t6 mats or unID dyes. It is a choice yes. But Anet didn’t use to hate alts as much.
So are they going to fix the Twilight’s Idol progression? Because I’m at 3/4 now and the new path didn’t give me completion when I did it. Dungeon Master is at the moment impossible to get unless you already have it.
This may or may not be the official response from Anet.
(edited by Ethics.4519)
Yeah, this is one I drug my foot on. I knew I should have bought a bunch of gossamer, silk, and leather, but I just never got around to it. Oh well.
@vol I get the first 3 on the list (as I’ve been trying to hit up lodestons/cores a lot) but copper doubloons? What’s the rational there?
Yes, we definitely need to make these distinctions.
Stacking: This is legit. It’s a LOS method where all you are doing is grouping up mobs. You’re all together in one spot to keep the boss from moving around. This allows everybody to go full melee (more dangerous, but has higher damage). Everybody gets group buffs because you’re not spread out, and you can do your burst skills (like 100b) without worry off the boss moving out. Also, you can easily res anybody that is downed.
Exploitation: This is using a spot where the boss isn’t able to hit you. I will not name any current ones, but hotw p1 use to have spot on the boss in the crack in the wall. You were safe from his spin, and you could easily cleave him down.
The spider stacking is fine. The spider doesn’t use his range poison attack because everybody is melee. If one person moves back (to what would be considered range) he uses his range attack and the group will most likely wipe.
As to the OP, if you don’t like it leave. Start your own party and say (NO EXPLOITING!) in the description. As for stacking, it’s a good strategy. Fun is different for people. You might think kiting around the room auto attacking a boss for 10 min is fun. Whereas I think optimizing your DPS and killing the boss as fast as you can is fun.
As Ojimaru said, the meta right now is all damage. It’s either go big or go home. Support comes in the way of random aegis/regen from guardians, and giving damage boons like might stacks and fury.
After you left, eles took a hit in spvp. You rarely see them anymore. They are still valuable in wvw for CC and group swiftness, along with wall fights. I think they are about mid-tier in dungeons.
Lightning hammer eles are the new thing in dungeons. The one downside is if somebody steals your lightning hammer off the ground, you’re out 50%-ish of your DPS. The fiery great sword is also great when you have stuff stacked up against a wall. You can #3 into the wall for a lot of damage, and you can un-target and #4 into the wall, for an insane amount of damage. Pretty sure it’s a bug, but we’ll see when Anet gets around to it.
@Falunel, yes and no. I agree that you shouldn’t play a class that you’re miserable with, but until you play all professions, you don’t really know. Considering this is a brand new player, it’s better to provide how things are up front.
“Honestly, most people aren’t going to care what class you play as long as you play it well” As much as I wish this were true, it’s 100% wrong. If you’re doing a lvl 48 fotm and you have the option of bringing two rangers or two guardians, you would be extremely masochistic to bring two rangers.
Again, I agree you shouldn’t play a class that you don’t like, but you should try out all the classes. And just keep in mind that you’ll have a much different experience getting dungeon groups with a guard/warrior than a ranger.
The general census on classes (PvE/dungeons):
Tier A: Guardian, Warrior, Mesmers (Mesmers you really only need 1 per group)
Tier B: Thieves, Elementalists, Necros
Tier C: Engineers, Rangers
You can argue each one a little, but overall I think this is the PUG mentality.
Also FYI, you can take any level character to the heart of the mists and spvp. They are automatically level 80, and you can freely get max gear, weapons, etc with all your traits. Although overwhelming at first, it allows you to try out what your profession will be like end game, without actually leveling to 80.
Each race has a starter zone like that level 1-15 you’re in. You can get there from the main city Lion’s Arch. If you out level the zone you’re in, you can easily go to a different one (wayfarer foothills = norn, caledon forest = sylvari, queensdale = human, etc)
