Mentioned this idea before, but it seemed a bit greedy with unnerfed BB.

The secondary effect for traited GS and shouts – is a neglictible lifesteal.
Beside being low and heavily unreliable (nr of enemys and lol gravedigger lol), lifestealing is already a blood magic mechanic.

What if the secondary effect was “steal 1 boon on hit”.?

Its not another corrupt,
lifesteal can be balanced and remain blood magic thing,
it is something for melee teamfight survival,
nothing new is generated, just stolen from one side to another.

@Flumek Might stacking was likely the reason for the nerf in the first place.

I know its the main one.

And exactly because its the primary one and the only one we can also benefit from at all ourselves, it would be a nice nerf to just focus around it.

I think it with all the other common pulses like swift/regen/fury/stab stacks, it would reduce the original BB to around 70%.

A solid nerf,
the trait stays functionaly the same,
Further addjustments can be made on the numbers part.

What if Blighters Boon just becomes MIGHT ONLY ?

“When you gain might, gain 1% lifeforce(or XXX if OP). When you gain might in shroud, you are healed for XXX ammount.”

Theme:
“Necro always had offensive defense – like weakness instead of prot. So youre supporting your necro by building offense.”

Reality:
Might is stacking so its not worthless AND it erradicates all other easy short pulsing stuff that flies around. Might is also the only one a necro can make, I mean retal from axe is second spot with 5% MAX case.
“You want to burst heal your necro cz hes a pingpong ball and cant heal him in shroud? Do some might.”
“You want to perma passive sustain with everything? Sry, necs cant have nice things

I always supported idea of blighters boon, not only because its fair linear scaling defense , but if the healing in shroud is a too high value – it was double that of AH healing guard- you can just balance shave the heal from 120 – 80 – 40 – boom 60 perfect spot.

BB is fine it’s still the most versatile GM, the nerf isn’t that terrible, I’m just saying it could have been a lot worse like if they went back to BWE1 kind of reaper.
imo str sigils does a mighty fine job Even if u don’t run spite, let’s be real how many of you would spam autos all the time in shroud anyway, and if you happen to also take chillin victory it’s still allright of a grand master.

Let’s not for get infusing terror is also a boon giving skill and it needs no investment in spite
This is a better way to handle such a trait as BB compared to adding more Icd
The only other way I can see this being handled is to restrict BB to specific boon types

11min long, close game, i even did 2x bosskils.
As you see i cannot possible deal more damage:
-im full aoe built and i also played yolo spam aoe on node style this game, shows i tanked the 600k damage

Now,
*I merely did 400k. If this was a revenant with just hammer -no 3.5x dedicated AoE utilities – i wouldnt be surprised if it was double, 500-800k is the reve/dragonhunter normal game.

Ok, im going to salvage builds now.

Just as reminder,

We were solid mid tier with current standings, so again double revenants, druids (will get nerf so idc), dragonhunters and scrappers…i still think its a mistake, idk if necro even deserves a 5th spot anymore

And it was finally lifeforce at start, cmon

I think i will have to pretty much demand 50% lf when OOC, working same as reve energy.

Stick a Herald next to a reaper, and he’s 100% of the time in shroud, the bar was never going down. :o

Stick 2x any metabunkers and they wont go under 90%
or drop the focus the (soldier) necro mentality and go for the matader revenant.

At this point, the trait is badly designed.

Before it was linearly balanced scaling that mostly came from allies. Aka you cant be unkillable 1v1. so i ask:

First, whats wrong with being unkillable in teamfights?
Most can perma kite by themselves or if synergy is allowed, a rezzbot guard or plently tanks can also keep the fight going by healing each other, its why poeple outrotate it rather.

Second, the trait for us only work on 1 boon from 1 traitline. With other traitline being fixed beforehand.
Build diversity and spam1 playstyle comments?

chronomanceer is god tier, DH is top tier and reaper is mid tier

And revenAnt seems just below chrono, 500-1mil dmg logs are standard cz of hammer.
Scrapper is meh + one broken trait
Reaper is okayish strong. Seemed crazy in bwe2 but everyone also got polished since then so its a lot more equal playing field.

What greater power?
I have to change my sigils now because, like pierwola said, I lost control over my sigil cooldowns. And any replacement for one of my sigils will definitely make me weaker overall even if I occasionally get to proc the others more often.
Absolutely terrible change.

can you clear me up on what exactly do you lose?

Pvp related you gain so much more potential and combos that its a no brainer.
AI fighter mode im no expert, but the only thing youd lose is fury flashing control when in ranged. If its on the no offhand no mainhand build then a step away is the right direction.

Im a main pvper, and i got like most of my10k gold from selling skill points and thus farming dungeon tokens.

Dungeons are poorly designed and brainless.
The daily gold rewards are also uneven for how a path takes.

I recently colored myself pink and started leveling up fractals, went from 13 to 35. Fractals are a blast compared to dungeons.

I fully support the gold removal from dungeons,
The only ones against this are brainless stacking clickers.

Hello.
Sorry for late again.

Necro + reaper is in great spot atm.
3x base good builds (cele, condi and power) now with recent changes.
And each of those builds has at leas 1-2 reaper versions, one similiar and one with shouts as theye pretty versatile.
Necro always had most “viable/plausible” builds, but now the whole base looks really solid B+ tier and none of them being stupidly OP, so theres no fear for nerfs. Just keep that one broken skill/trait/adaptivearmorcough from others in check and were a good pick for any team.


OK, now to actual reaper stuff


Traits

  • Augury of Death – CDR ok, the secondary lifesteal effect is neglectible
  • Soul Eater – CDR great, the secondary lifesteal effect is neglectible

Like most lifesteals, its just way too low and those two are even very unreliable. If i have to pick one to stay, id say bring back old small but allround GS siphons ,while the shouts have a different effect.
I vote for 1 boonsteal per enemy hit.
Its actually something, helps the meleee brawler theme, and is scallingly balanced.


Greatsword

  • Auto-chain – in PVP, you just never use this
  • Grasping Darkness – The pull is just half broken and low range.

GS isnt bad and its super cool and fun, but high level power builds are already hard, you never have afk time to swing your sword cz of blind/dodge/CC…Id maybe try a slightly longer chill on 3rd hit.
For the pull,
there is not simple solution .
They said it themselves, they spent a lot of time making the skill and animation….i just dont like skills that simply dont work, making you fight the game engine instead of enemy.


Shouts

  • Suffer! – if….if…if only this one was ever so slightly tiny better, shout builds would be perfect
  • NCSY – i honestly havent ever put this on in PVP, but i guess not everything works everywhere

Suffer is just a worse version of plague signet. Maybe 2 condies transfered would still be acceptable meta level strong but thats the limit.
Overall, each shout covers something, so theyre pretty versatile, you just really need to spam and hit them traited to make them worth it. Theyre worth it when they hit.


Reaper Shroud

Been perfect design from start.
Love it.

I hear in PVE the numbers are still even lower half, but i dont think PVP can handle anything higher…Maybe a split between modes on the auto just for PVE, since it is the majority and casuals like to see big numbers.
But leave RS as it is in PVP, it be a shame to get it overnerfed.


This were just the only real problems left on Reaper, the rest 90% of specialization feels and is great.

Focus needs some changes

Let’s compare Reaper’s Touch with Mirror Blade, one of the more similar skills.

Cast time: identical.
Recharge: 18s for RT, 8s for MB. Large advantage to MB.
Range: identical.
Direct damage: RT has a coefficient of 0.75 vs 0.7 for MB. However, Greatsword has 22% higher weapon strength than Focus (given equivalent level and rarity), so MB actually does ~14% more direct damage per hit despite the lower coefficient. Opposing that, RT has an additional bounce and thus may still do more total damage.
Boon granted to allies per hit: RT grants 5s Regeneration, MB grants 3×10s Might. Advantage arguable, but personally I find the Regeneration to be a bit lackluster and would prefer a different boon, so I would give the advantage to MB.
Vulnerability applied to enemies per hit: 4×10s for RT, 3×3s for MB. Advantage to RT (duration benefit mostly canceled by the higher recharge of RT, but can stack up to 12 vuln on a single target/20 total on multiple targets vs 6/12 for MB).
Number of bounces: 4 for RT, 3 for MB. Advantage to RT.

RT grants life force per hit, while MB obviously does not. However, MB is a 100% projectile finisher per bounce and is unblockable. Advantage to MB.

In short, RT has an additional bounce, more Vuln application, and grants life force, but MB has a far shorter recharge, a more useful boon, is a 100% projectile finisher on bounces, and is unblockable. Total direct damage ends up being fairly similar, can go either way depending on the situation (MB does more per hit but RT has more hits).

Personal suggestion: reduce the recharge of Reaper’s Touch to 15s and replace the Regeneration boon with a different boon (Fury?).

I also support the reduction of Spinal Shivers to a 1s cast time.

You forgot the most important detail

  • mirror blade homes and is regular flying projectile
  • focus#4 doesnt home and is hovering projectile aka it gets pebble stuck

Game engine is our biggest hardcounter.

1x Single One-Shot BL Key..... Such WOW

Im not gonna say how its not saving or help pvp at all but, Why do you even waste time designing such a track?

Would a BLK rewards track, that gives the key as the final prize, really be too much?

I dont think so – with time investment:

  • 29 wins aka 40x games with 50/50 winratio
  • 4x games per hour with que times, aka 1 game every 15min

Thats 10 hours for a key, 150hours for a weapon skin —- IN PVE YOU CAN FARM A LEGENDARY IN THAT TIME

Please be reasonable and let it be a repeateble track.

Hi I really like reaper now except one thing that I expect to be changed as it’s really messing everything up – please remove swap sigil proc on Shroud entry/exit. It removes the consistency with weapon swaps (i can’t see exactly when my next proc will be ready).

Also – Rise! is great now, good job. I don’t like the other shouts as they’re weak pvp skills.

About 99.73% of player want swap added to regular shroud.

It just adds a lot of versatility , more interesting and thoughtful sigil choices.

I see the rT tag in your signature, thus i will assume you are speaking from a PVE perspective which only think about max dps rotation. Example

“Scepter/nothing + nothing/dagger , a build where you camp autoatacks in one set whole time and only use this trick to trigger swap sigils on CD”

With no offense to you or PVE, that kind of playstyle is stupid.
The current 2+1 3-way weapon choice of reaper is amazingly engaging, and its always better for players to start paying attention and making decisions.

Edit:
A visual indicator for such CDs would be nice, but like anet said, it musnt cluster the UI and i also dont know where to fit 5-10 passive CDs per player on screen.

500k and 2k condies is impressive indeed.

Just keep in mind a lot probably went aoe into clines and reaper and also base necro got an increase in small short but frequent condies, example cpc and reaper nr4 spin both apply many small stacks of poison.

And while the number is very high for cele amulet, it also means the teamfights were tankier and longer on both sides, resulting in a lot of slow sustained dmg piling up. Cele eles for examlple also often had higher dmg logs than some zerkers on the team

Beside copying cele signet build with just amulet switch (even more pressure than cele but dies to fast and bad 1v1 potential), i found this to be best condi build that i sometimes ran last month.
I was surprised how many “oneshots” you could do in a proper burst. I think its totally viable and i may run it a future AG level tournament.

For the aanimation, a bigger swing with the hands to make it feel more impactful over the current gentle fly swaping.
I also have to mention that while the old animation was exploitable to cancel casting, it was also too hard to reliably use without unallowed macros effectively rooting your wasd keys.
And theres still another weapon where cancel casting is a meta viable tactic on the loose

For the strength of axe in pvp,
I dont think it will be go4 meta, but i may run it in some AG cup.
Its still semi reliable with its lifeforce and like someone already said
Mirror blade >>>> reapers touch focus #4 in terms of reliability, also huge aftercast for an offensive weapon that works best in a facing melee burst

Will see how it works out when i get to test it.
The main idea would be for axe to take over staff for the ranged set, a/d has transfer but no lifeforce and dmg, a/f depends on luck but has lofeforce and dmg but no cleanse so its hard to be defensive set
And on reaper gs lifeforce is also unreliable and no cleanses….the lf reliability of d/wh and staff is hard to beat

Guys,

The scepter max dps stays same (not considering torment) but the ramp up time is lower aka you reach that max dps faster.

Great changes,
I predict us being top3 class in pvp. I also hope we forever stay in that great but just not OP tier

Really the only criticism i have left over 3 years is
Zero lifeforce at start and -23% every respawn
And the healing and seeing CDs while in shroud

Really all parts, weapons, traits, mechanics, utilitys, everything is super solid

Ive been getting back into and farming some fractal relics to have ready for hot. Keep in mind i made lv16 to 25 last week.

So i also play this, just asciis ez mode version with parasitic contagion. Also all other poeple were lv25 probably

We have a bit non meta group and they mock our dps.
I go tryhard and do great epis, always share might and keep up vuln for group.
On tricky parts i support them with wells etc.
Everything goes smooth, they even admit necro isnt bad at all.
Aaand then i drop the bomb by saying i can double my bleeds since we doing good and i dont need the healing

In all honest, even when i enter a PVP tournament again,

I would unbind my normal deathshroud F1.

Thats how much better Reapershroud is and I unfortunately cannot support this idea. The reaper specialization feels just perfect the way it is and i think the solution for ranged is the upcoming work on axe.

Im no mesmer main, but absolutely take GS.
For pvp the short CD dmg and cripple and elite well are the 2 useful ones, but for duel it doesnt matter much if you dont want the empty pprtal slot.
Also try finding an equaly skilled friend – two" bad" builds and a random person from map chat – just saying such a duel holds no useful merit.
Especialy since beta time is limited, even tho i won 10/10 my guildmate did alert me that reaper is always one transfer behimd regular cele necro + you better not use stabilty since low boon coverage will always corrupt it, for example

Against reaper

Absolutely always kite and do ranged pressure when he goes into shroud. Teleport to a ledge so the dash will be less effective, he can either facetank your stuff for 6s for another dash,
Or you just burst him back when he exists.

Dodge/blind the big scythe. No excuses, the fear is 1s and animation is 1.25s
It hits in a circle not just melee tip of weapon so you must use an ability, no sidewalk

3rd most important point
Mesmer has bad 1v1 matchups across the board, its real strength is in portals etc…just keep that in mind for what actually matters in teamplay

Dodge/blind all greatsword skills
Its a super slow weapon with obvious animations. I will give you 2 secret tips
-if he gravedigers one of your low hp clones, the CD recharges so be warry he may have it up more times in a row
-blind is well known hardcounter to necro in staff, even more id say for greatsword, just exeption is the spiral dril #3 skill which is a multi hit so you still get 5/6 hits

Soldier amu vs marader amu
Well known fact soldier has more EHP so you need to outplay and patiently reign free damage upon him. Never exchange blows on a 0 toughness build

From here its l2p mesmer issues
You need to ask a mesmer sry chrono is basically very oldschool glasy shatter mesmer, needs good positioning but great dmg.

Hello.
I dont want to whine,
especially when Reaper AND Scrapper are designed as melee brawlers and therefore have great sustained options to back it up.

But.
This.
Thing….
I just have to write some concerns, from experience with a similiar trait.

  • 1) The necro one is already strong. Almost always on 10x stacks, sometimes drops but insta back….This one is just better in every way and on a crazy level.
  • 2) Its totally passive. Borrowed idea, but there is no difference in how a good or a completely new player uses its effect.
  • 3) The condition part (THE BETTER PART) is permanent and top from start, not slowly stacking.
  • 4) Trait + hoelbrak rune
    The necro defense line, death magic, is considered weak and you need the offensive presure traits, BUT
    its not weak defense AT ALL. The necro builds who take are very very tanky, and they dont take hoelbrak. It allowed to drop transfers and take warhorn for example.
  • 5) The trait is passive +20-30% more HP, with good heals it appears in the unkillable domain.

POTENTIAL NERFS:

  • make the condition armor also stacking
  • lower toughness per stack
  • rework and potential ban from tourneys

If its fine, then fine, just a heads up warning. Ofc everything else will also get adjusted on our BW3 feedback. Agree/ Disagree ?

The spectral skill didnt work at first in shroud and cz of coding they still end when using elite transforms.

It is intended so i really dont know whats wrong with it?
Its protection + 6k DS hp, so its CD and duration are all normal for a pseudo invuln.

Reaper Changes for BWE3

I enjoyed the changes to reaper with the last BWE. It flowed much more smoothly. What I don’t care for is not being able to choose which shroud to use. I prefer DS over RS because I mostly play ranged. The gs just makes swapping weapons more enticing.

If you prefer ranged, why would you want to play the Reaper, which was explicitly designed as a melee aoe brawler?

On the topic of increased dash speed, i stillthink its better this way.
Its better chasing potential and the dash had felt it got stuck for a sec, while on the projectile side,
it doesnt change the starting time so nothing will change on your reaction time, you just wont block maybe the 2nd fired arrow.

Because you are making a not smart complaint, i will assume youre a PVE roleplayer.

Yes, other proffesions get +1 extra small thing (only chrono gets a big extra thing- the CD reset)
Some, the dragonhunter are like us, they just trade their stuff for worse stuff.
We however,
trade our 10powerlv shroud for a 100powerlv better shroud.
Also, just the weapon is actually good in PVE and if you will even look cool while standing in LA and complaining.

On serious note,
The range is a limited weaponset problem. Axe is getting looked into along with other weapons, so wait for that.
