Great to see fixes done so fast (suffer too much life force, animations and dash movement corrections. At this pace the reaper may even come out without any bugs at all
The changes look ok, tho reaper and chrono are solid enough, that this is more of a revision check.
So, at this point, the only thing causing problems is base necro. Inb we see double greatsword builds , ill list the most important quirks, bugs and issues:
- starting with zero lifeforce
- losing -23% of lifeforce on respawn
- weapon swap sigils on regular DS
- signets, leech procs, well of blood and other self applied stuff that doesnt work in shroud
- outside healing in shroud – wrote it seperate as it needs consideration and lets go step by step
- regular DS#1 attack speed – blinds are everywhere since june23 , same DPS but over a faster firerate would bring it alive and maybe less QQ about sudden oneshot procs
- axe
- scepter
- focus, (even offhand and #2 #3 dagger tbh)
- corruptions, the extra condi trait and all healing skills
Dream solutions:
- like revenant energy, lifeforce settles on fixed ammount out of combat.
It just removes the extreme min/max scenarios, bypasses the -23% respawn bug, and doesnt make blighters boon pre-fight spamming a MUST.
I suggest an equal , easy to umderstand 50% (maybe down to 30 but remeber it also drops and doesnt carry into next fight) - axe#3 and dagger#5 and their traited counterparts are blast finishers.
The payoff is you need to be very careful blasting stealth with a 600 radius aoe and the traited ones can only happens under your feet - any axe & scepter improvements like range, dps and reliable lifeforce increase
- spectral pull and greatsword pull become RELIABLE PULLS. Dodge, block etc counterplay stays but not SIDESTEP and random obstructed
I know this is mostly base stuff but better mention it since you do have 2 other lines beside reaper ill write more if i get a good reaper only idea
Great idea.
That would make for good support in sinister groups. Others have more damage on conditions while the necro can extend and spread them.
Side note:
I know raids arent out yet, but a cool idea to make transfers more desired, would be that the boss had really high condition damage. And transfers use the original condition damage when thrown back. So a 2.000 ticking 10s poison every 10s could be used a small dps boost.

Its pretty much an extra utility bar that generates lifeforce.
Aaand the fact that axe, focus are terrible while scepter, off dager are just weak weapons.
P.S.
Youre shooting yourself in the foot with d/f. That combo makes no sense as its double melee, the whole point of why a/f somehow works is you have focus#4 for melee counterpressure

For PVE, the shout trait should definetlybe the one as pve always has tons of mobs to cleave. The persuit trait is perfectly fina, its more shout and chill that could be improved for pve.
Not every slot will be +10% dmg mod.

But yea, i see no problem and our shroud form always felt like a 3rd weapon set. I dont think it shouldnt be treated any different than a kit and it also opens the skill ceiling
Its awfully terrible, both in strength and design.
Above 50%, youre not getting much juice out of it, even if all 5 galaxies allign.
Under 50% youre spamming gravedigger anyway.
Its a shame a lot of work has been put into gs#5 , especially to make it lok pretty , yet its plain useless.
So after years of spectral grasp projectile problems we upgrade to super CPU intensive triple claws that let every pebble slip by.
When all everyone wanted was a simple magnet pull.
If, as some people like to argue, all enemies but the Reaper is a bunker, then chances are you should probably just… Leave that fight and go be useful somewhere else? That’d be my best advice.
well this is dumb, if you get something like ele ele guard reaper thief you can’t focus anyone. you pressure ele they get out of the fight and reset. you pressure thief you cant really pressure a thief if the thief is good. you pressure guard someone on your team will die to pressure before the guard does. you can only resort to good old focus the necro exept this time it will take 3x the time it usually takes to kill it.
Yes, this a ideal teamfight comp.
Either play the big teamfights better than them,
Or dont teamfight at all. Example: TCG vs oRNG
Mesmer already doesnt teamfight but prefers to go somewhere else. Plays mobility game and forces bunker guard to always slowly walk behind, maximazing its uselessnes.
Then again, 2x ele is stupid with anything and needs big shaves.
Replace cele/soldier reaper with soldier engie.
Its almost same. The only differences are engie is more ranged, rifle cc, invulns and versatile combos – while reaper is more melee and should deal better against condies with right utilities.
Marauder/ carrion/ valkyrie reaper
No toughness melts like anyone else, especialy the bigger the fight. My advice would be to kite the ReaperShroud and burst the normal hp.
Also opens up more bad 1v1 matchups.
Ok, after i recovered from post reaper syndrome, i think this is the best demonstration of reaper, why its balanced, and why its actually fair:
1v1 = no boons, necros cant do boons
2v2 = some boons
3v3 = moar boonz
…
5v5 = all the boons
So what do we have?
- a specialization designed as a bigfight cleaver…..which actually works in teamfights
- true scalling defense … If 5x guys focus you – 4x can heal you, if thats unfair idk anymore
- its basically a selfish Altrustic Healing
- still ZERO actual heals through ds, which you always activate in trouble – is it fair for guard and ele to fullheal engie during block and even through a wall, while on necro my supports still regularly blow clutch 10k heals into nothing
As for counters:
- 1.25 seconds …. All three big attacks have this long cast, melee, and obviously animated.
- ranged kiting … Its full melee, even with hoelbrak rune + movement trait i would often keep swingning my scythe into air by just a little bit
- its still a necro, slow to get outrotated
- BWE builds and teamcomps were mostly experimental
- any soldier necro can tank 3v1 already, its just useless if you dodge its big hits
- not a fan, but there are things with greater sustain
- BUG – one of the shouts gave up to 25% lifeforce on 30s when it shouldnt
- daredevil evades – picked me apart
- chrono and revenant – not exactly counter but their potential seems just as high
So please continue on making necro an equaly good pick for an ESL tourny, comparable dps and utility in PVE and greatsword less clunky because it just looks cool.

Reaper has way, way, way, to high of dps to be as tanky as they are. Hands down Reaper was the best elite spec by far. The amount of damage that they can deal is absolutely ridiculous. Their only weakness at the moment is their lack of gap closers, and I can’t even imagine if you get stuck in melee range with one. The fact that you can stack 11 stacks of poison on someone with rs 4? Or that a shout for might can place 14-22 stacks of might on yourself? Or that gs3 into gs4 can take all/most of someone’s health? And all the while with two health bars to burn through like it’s nothing. I can’t honestly believe that Reapers will be let into the game without some serious tweaking.

necro has way to much sustain. Both my thief and ranger(both valk builds) have high burst and decent sustain. Neither can blow though a valk/soliders nerco and even if we get them low they just reset like an ele would.
It literally feels like playing against the current d/d ele.
The incoming damage feel fine to play agaisnt tho. I feel that is something they got right for sure.
And then they say stereotypes arent true and you should be nice to poeple on forums

When traited chill to do damage, it only deals full ticks of damage every second.
Leftover durations arent applied.
Example:
A 3.60s chill will not do its 0.60s worth of damage UNLESS another condition was apllied before, which started the tick timer before. In this case its same trick as with old terror on getting or not getting the extra tick of damage.
Mostly irrelevant thing, just noting it.

Without the shourt trait “Augury of Death” , the shout “Suffer” will give you 5% life force per target hit.
Just reporting so poeple know.
I also think shouts are still bad and that the trait should add a similiar effect on them beside the CD reduction (if its meant as a brawler a condi clear/transfer per hit or such lifeforce sounds appealing).

I would very much like this LF gain to stay, same as on well of corruption. Played with 2 very promising builds, both using shouts but absolutely rely on the lifeforce gain from suffer. Without it, the only thing is the pigeon hole of blighters boon and praying your teammates are OP eles who give u boons

Its opposite, the greatsword is a pure PVE weapon, its 4v5 if you use it in pvp.

The 8k gravedigger (yes singular, ive only hit one so far in 5h) put a big smile on my face. So for pvp its pretty much safe to afk a game if u see someone wielding a GS.
But i ask poeple who know the PVE side more, is it same trash there? I heard the new mobs actually interupt, so rip necro and hi ele alt again?
1/1/3 % can be something that isnt zero in pve, but GS is some miles and nerf to popular classes away from being used in pvp.
Its more any cele arc/water ele is OP, earth guys are also a pain with no crit or diamond “skill” .
I think easiest thing to do is to make the waterfall ring smaller.
Its already a lot bigger than quarrys and it would prevent going all the way down behind the fence while still being on point.
Well it wasnt only scepter/dagger condi builds, also d/d power builds used it.
But now everyone, even thief and mesmer have condi removal, so the transfer is useless. And as tittle says, #5 is also mega useless
I seriously dont know 7/8 classes can have blasts, dagger#5 and axe#3 + both traited versions could ALL be no ICD blasts and what? wed be close to equal to others? sigh anet…
A good working soloQ is what allows to spot a new good player to invite to your team.

Only place where u take the spectral trait is pve for shorter lich CD.
The lower DS degeneration is just unavoidable – power, condi, minion, bunker…there is no build that can afford to drop Soul line just for it alone.

I suggest a humanoid main, simply cz lots of armors look bad/undestinguishable on asura and charr.
As second, definetly charr, just walking around with it is always a breath of fresh air for me.
In short,
ours is aoe and may need (and get) future bufs, probably lowering the CD to the 90-60s range.

2) condi transfer, even traited, even on current slow version – cmon poeple stay real.
(Try a death magic build with the 3s cleanse trait…now imagine all those condies not vanish into air but instead on enemy…brokenly overpowered and no real counterplay even with all the current blindspam)
3) might and vuln can be balanced or buffed via the 2x hit skill idea. Piercing maybe baseline
4) faster speed/animation is meant for
-buffing dhuumfire
-less random blind/block shutdown
-maybe also less hate and frustration for other classes – power necro vs thief was dodge, blind, interupt, dodge, blind, blind, 8k megaproc oneshot from thieves perspective.
Bassicaly i agree with bhawb and most other necros on this, its been discussed a lot of times.
warriors are indded the simplest proffesion.
In terms of you need to click a lot and fast, engieneer is top, ele also close. Currently ele dd build is also more forgiving, so soldier/marauder engie should be most fun. Lots of different combo fields potential.
Honorable mention goes to necro and mesmer. Mesmer is strong but it is very very hard to pick up, you have a lot of good defensive cooldowns but u also have to use pretty perfectly to be effective.
Necro on contrary is easier to pick up,due to more natural defense, but is slow and has worse or sometimes no escape options, so you need to always watch and think a step ahead with your positioning. Im a necro main but a lot of my guildmates who tried necro as alt had tons of fun with it, even with its wel known problems.
If you want unique, try mesmer or necros deathshroud, if not, i think engie is more fun than ele.
Focus is great weapon.
Roleplayers use it all the time.

All the issues were adressed. I repeat. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE of the concerns that have been posted in our feedback threads have been changed or dealt with in some way.

One of us should create the " healing in Death shroud mega thread" and list all of the sources of healing and which work and which don’t work.
Healing in Death Shroud is confusing and illogical.
Basically nothing works in ds, not even signet passives. No sigil, rune, boon or any effect or skill.
Only things are recently added exceptions for traited siphons and signet of vampirism with blood revamp:
-siphon minor trait vampiric
-spihon pickable trait vampiric aura
-traited wells
-signet of vampirism active effect
-blood magic pickable trait lesser signet vampirism – think its bugged atm tho
Because Anet hasnt decided and put some to work with the coding yet.
Regular out/inside heals, regen boon and buffs , siphon, trait parasitic contagion , signet passives… only siphons work in DS and that only since recent patch because they revmped blood line.
had 1 for 2 years, but i made another 2 and its suuuper convinient for buildswaping.
Also bit of skin/race changes to keep it fresh

Insta transfer with signet and pray he dont random dodge.
Peck him while in moa and pray you proc traited plague signet.

There is still a configurable grace period for allowed disconnect time. The old dishonor system required players to be present when victory is declared, but that is no longer the case.
Have you addressed the old issue of punishing the entire party of a queue should 1 member disconnect ?
Especially if party with dc actually wins.
We all know there must be punishment in party to prevent 1 member tanking a loss for other 4,
But another scanario is if were leading 490-100 and a fellow member dcs. Absolutely dont deserve the harshest -3pt loss and now even dishonor on top
Reaper Shroud is proccing weapon swap, which is GREAT, please apply this to normal Death Shroud.

You would create conflicting icds if you are running 2 of the same swap sigils on each weapon set, which is actually quite common for a lot of necro builds, including the current “meta” cele signets with 2x Geomancy.
It is absolitely fantastic.
1 line of sigil change on metabattle.com and 1 week of l2p issues and problems would be gone.
Its a flat buff with more flexibility, there is no math way its worse. You do need to count it a bit better but it opens up a lot more new combos than it closes old ones.
Only thing is the healing sigils dont work in entry of DS, but that should be a fix not obstacle for a feature.
I personally hate the weapon swap proc for RS. I’ve developed this technique when under focus fire from 2 or more players where, depending on circumstances, I leave shroud, weapon swap to staff (I frequently enter shroud not wielding staff; I know, strange considering the power buff) to trigger hydromancy to remove any blinds and then fear instantly so that I have a hope of using my heal skill at like 1k HP to survive for even longer on node.
It works very often.
It wouldn’t work if my hydromancy was on cooldown and I couldn’t get my fear off, though.
To sweet talk a bit, i think a decent player as you would get the new combo in pretty fast in fact, your use would stay same
A) only 1 hydromancy on staff set – it would proc normaly and be the blind clear
B) hydromancy on both sets – youd need to trigger the hydro proc with the exit of DS.
Considering you have weapon swap available, 10s must have passed, so the hydro proc that you used when swapping into dagger will surely be available
U mean meta as best possible necro build or meta in being top 5 pick for a team?
It is without doubt our best build you can run in a tourney or soloq.
Note its also considered a somewhat healthy build, like compared to condispam or onetrick proc power necro.

Definetly nope. I think most accurate representation is necro/ warri/ engie are in same tier of competing for 5th slot.

Design idea from choxie, but i fully support it:
- instead of full linear scaling, aka 1x , 2x – 5x
-some decent high base with lower scaling, aka 3x, 3.5x , 4x , 4.5x , 5×.

Consistently always worth using
So for the trait, instead of 1-5x 7% recharge , give
15% base , then +5% for each extra enemy hit….. so 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 exact same max even.
THat is for base trait.
Given how trash and inferior shouts are – a added effect per enemy hit also sounds nice. Would need to be a corrupt or even better if transfer per hit to actually see those things and necro itself used in big fights.

So, youre meleeing or general attaking an enemy. He feels pressured and teleports/leaps away to a better position? How do you deal with that? How can you fail? How can enemy react to your approach? Is it fair for both sides?

-use 1200 range attack that are better than his ranged

-interrupt in middle of leap

OK, we clearly see which ways necros are designed to follow. So lets take a utility “Spectral Grasp” on our slot and see how it does.

- cooldown: 30s vs 30s
- range: 1200 vs 1200 … sounds ok, the grasp actualy goes a bit further and ofc blinks can “use/abuse” the well known kiting/teleport spots…so lets continue
- cast time, can be interupted
- can be dodged – theres a tell and visible animation with cast+ travel time
- block, blind, invul
- Reflect , not listed , no finisher , but it is a projectile
- bodyblock
- Line of Sight
- Obstructed bug , lets say 3/10
- Getting stuck on a pebble bug , lets say 2/10
- SKILL COMPLETELY MISSING WITH A SIDESTEP,
or any slow or quick change of direction… or unpropper facing aka enemy walks through you
Extra effects:
Chill and lifeforce if it hits vs. reflect if traited.
RESULTS with MY OPINION
No discussion on winner.
In my opinion, it is ok for some of the above counters.
Dodging a big tell? OK, great.
Random blind/block? Still ok, tho I cannot not say: “stop throwing blinds out like candy, GG Anet….(blinding ashes and blind on shatter for clarification)”
Bugs? Fix them – for both sides. Skills should work EXACTLY as intended +90%
WHAT I AM ABSOLUTELY NOT FINE WITH:
Unfair game mechanics.
INSTEAD OF PLAYING AGAINsT ENEMY PLAYER – I AM PLAYING AGAINST THE UI AND GAME ENGINE

So, litteraly, this is the MAX possible good dreamcase scenario a necro wants.
Decide for yourself if it was easy to repeat, lasted longer than any 2v1 stone ele we see, and if theres some proffesions that could get away or full heal ofter a rezz from that situation.
