The way I estimate it under perfect duel scenarios, is a rough 50/50.
On high end esl thiefs should win, where lower its more possible for thief to die at first mistake.
But then, like you said, in real match – the conditions are almost always against necro.
-low lifeforce = lose
-missing CDs or HP = thiefs favor his CDs are lower, 15s for initiative and 20s for steal
-holding node = you will decap 100% , but again
a) he can wear you down in reasonable 1min time
b) he has mindgame, you only guess = stealth, then you either stay behind on lose time, follow into vulnerable offpoint area, or exit shroud thinking its safe…BOOM.
c) any 2v1 for even 5-10seconds can instadown you , so even if teammates follow they need to REALLY follow fast or start 2v2 with a rezz.
Im seeing more winning choices on thiefs side. Or at least how nemesis said 4 years ago, “the choice to either win or not lose”.
So from a 1v1 standpoint youre on losing side, but your teammates can cover and beat thief. Necros job is staying alive long enough for teammates to catch thief, then rally of him

and if youre traited wells with chrono runes, you probably alredy have the 3 more useful ones in utlities,
meaning slotting this useless 7k heal vs 8k+X consume is a very efficient way to die.
The heal will NEVER work in pvp, its only for PVE maybe.

-same healing + lifeforce if spammed shout
-tiny heal for allies + zero cleanse + zero lifeforce
It should finally become a water field for WVW AND heal in shroud at least.

You should NOT be wining a duel against a competent thief. It takes longer though, usually at least to 20s to 2nd steal and you can instantly force a decap. You WILL die tho in 15s, just mentioning.
the trick is to
a) know enemy combos and rythm, and try to interupt it. precast and hope he doesnt double dodge, its RNG.
b) positioning does wonders, just standing on edge of weird rock prevents 180º of their maneuvarability. dropping aoes under your feet also gives you breathing time
c) transfer weakness, dont attack if hes spamming daze, let him shot 2-3 times then attack back or else youll eat 10k if interupts.
d) hug a teammate and his aoe fields
e) let your teammate rev/thief attack him after he wastes energy on you
bonus, if its staff thief try runing forwards away, you often get out of his aoe, helps if you avoid 2×8k just by walking.
else its common old complain everybody has. poeple thought the sustain proffesion would he some healing so it could live and win with time like scrapper. necro is always a dps, never bruiser/tank or support, just depends how glassy you go.
Id say the most important thing in making a viable build, is having a good weaponset, one with natural flow. Utilities are only invulnerability get out of jail cards….

Focus 4.
An ability thats hard to use when focused, cz thief jumping you = blind. So you cant use the melee burst skill to drive someone off yorself. That is rework.
Reducing the horrible 3year aftercast on focus 4. That is a tweak.
Making the projectile actually hit and home, aka just copy the ultra reliable mirror blade. That is bugfix imo.
Just my example for focus, which is already a 10x better choice than trashsword, a weapon with no good number, sloooow, buggy and unreliable, and witn zero useful combat flow (5+2 is not a true combo, so whole design is without value)

If ele without quickness falls down to 15k dps,
and necro without quickness and no more minions can still do 10k dps while afk 111ing,
then it brings them closer in overall dps + better risk/reward ratio in bringing a necro instead of ele.

This is Apple level of stupidity, they literally want a slow and clunky designed class.
The treb gives your team map wide big area damage and crowd control, at the expense of a single player controlling it.
- Think its ok, but its Anets decision where they want the low/middle/pro spectrum to go. Lowbies dont know how and more importantly where to aim. Middle its equal. The pros can all dodge or outrotate it, so its mostly not even considered.
Each team gets their own treb near their base and is useable the entire duration of the match unless it is destroyed.
- Its near base but enemy has pretty easy access to it. Maybe more home advantage by walking from left side or direct access would allow more comeback potential.
Also make it destroyable by condies.
If the treb is destroyed a player needs to run a repair kit from a designated area to the treb to repair it back to full health.
- Main point why im writing.
THIS is mostly impossible and not worth the time.
If a treb = comeaback & homeadvantage and the treb is repairable, then it maybe SHOULD BE at least viable if not the meta strat of a comeback.
TLDR
The defense side gets a point for easier to reach and defend treb.
The offense gets to destroy the treb easier now with condies.

We’ve been talking about personal score a bit. I’m personally of the opinion that it isn’t representative of a player’s effort in a given match, and it also can be incredibly misleading and potentially lead to bad gameplay habits (5-capping home).
If you were to redesign personal score, what would you do? Does it track different types of stats? Would you want your personal stats displayed to other players?
Ive moved over to Overwatch, tho only casually no fixed stuff yet.
I really like the hidden stats.
It pushes the “WIN / objective is what matters, NOT your k/d” message very clear, even to the simplest tunnelvisioned casuals.
Hiding the useless score thing is the only smart move. You can leave the tie-breaker function of it, as it rewards the offense vs just barelly hanging on, and its 0.0001% rare.

- Implement 1-to-1 rally policy, similar to WvW. This means that only 1 player would rally per enemy killed, rather than up to 5. Would likely be the downed ally closest to the enemy player.

dont worry, epi is in a good and spot atm.
It fullfils its role, but its use isnt overflowing into other roles. Main example is VS AIr overload.
You attack 1 mob, and if more spawn and the setup is right, you can bomb the others too. For power necro youd use wells, and even tho its a mini bomb, epidemics setup and DOT time and low CD make it more useful for constant sustained aoe – best case Boss + many smalls.
Now look at ele.
What is “highest” DPS ingame? air overload
What is best single target burst rotation? air overload
What is single target sustained dps rotation? air overload
How to cleave? air overload
How to do big aoe? air overload
Want troll with no mainhand valeguard? Np, mightyteapots only air overload ele will still kill it in time.
See the pattern?
And this is for PVE – Raids only. Theres pve dung&fractals 5man, open world 1man chilling, WVW solo, WVW party size, WVW big zerg, PVP 0hour beginer, PVP low/high/tournament level play…..
So air overload was always best for almost any PVE, yet it was at max a sidedish used in PVP….it got dmg nerfed by 10% i think a while ago…which is again fine, as it brings it closer to rest of top DPS options.
Epidemic is just cheesed in Raids 2nd wing, as a way to make necro a safer ele. If they wanted to nerf if, they would have done at the condi stack patch, and it is not overperforming in other areas of whole game. Its safe.
Maybe Axe could be buffed by buffing focus or offhand dagger. (Warhorn doesn’t have much synergy with axe since it isn’t ranged).

the melee cloud from warhorn keeps or at least kept thieves a bit away so you could get more free dmg of range.
We simply got 2 crappy offhands, 2 crapy mainhands and “thing” that should get u banned.

D/D was not meta but hell it was fun & viable. it was often described as the best non meta build. It had tournament results too, just more of a planB counterpick.
Focus tho never had 2 different poeple from top thousand wielding it at same point in time.
Idk how much its worth now.

Anet would never do this. If ANet did this all their self proclaimed pros would leave GW2 to find the next easymode non competitive MMO to exploit. Meaning even more less players. The veterans are leaving gw after years with no rewards because the gameplay after xpac got unbearably boring and because of tournament organization rules, where even slightest budge changes outcome of a bo3 match (cheating included).
The topic wasnt pro level money tournaments which are commonly run by an outside tournament organization with its own rulesets.
It was ingame pvp system, how its matchmaking should work and how Higher rated player should shier their high mmr and probably get more ingame rewards (gold ir skins, not real money).
This the main still present system flaw of gw2 pvp, but casualnet is sticking to its casualistic mentality of everyone gets something equall.
The premade vs solo
Is just a subproblem in not having a soloq. Even if we had soloq, it would not fix pros ditching gw or poeple complaining about worthless skillles pip system. Same for teamq players.
Also blizzards OW will use same one que to rule them all. They do have a much higher playerbase and anet even penalises the premades with tougher enemies for bigger parties, something i havent heard blizzard mention yet in their matchmaker
Reaper is a safer easier tempest.
Staff tempest = ranged dps + aoe spikes. No CC, main example is staff#2 on Gorseval orbs.
Fresh air tempest = best melee dps + some CC and mini support (heals, reflect). No ranged.
Reaper/base necro = ranged dps + aoe spikes. Decent CC, Passive group condi clear, Survives 2-3x more and unique ability to teleport several bodies out of aoe/poison fields.
Does 70% of tempests dps, but may come closer with less downstate time and good epidemic bounces.
If you want to set 4minute record – take tempest.
If you want to oneshot with pugs in 6 instead of 5minutes – take necro.
a) if youre lacking vipers gear and thus condition duration, and dont plan on getting it, take the nightmare combo.
3/4 of damage is from bleeds so those must be at 100% duration.
b) if youre a raid elitist and only care about max performance in raids, then maybe take thorns rune.
c) berserker.
Just take berserker and be done with it. You simply buy it and are good forever.
Its better and more consistent across all content. Math wise its +3% better in whole game but only in raids its -2% worse than maxed 4-5stack thorns rune.
Suggestion:
Buy exotic vipers gear as its crazy close to ascended vipers and put on berserker runes. You dont have to bother with any timegates, tokes and can throw you money on another ascended set. Youre only 2% worse than a maxed out ascended set which is neglectible. Youre ready for all of the content, OW, Dung, Fract, Raids…
Thief is atm totally dependent on rest of team.
Try to find a good 3man and you will roll through with 60-70% winrate but with solo youll be stuck with 50/50 slow progress.

The only way i kept my sanity recently was that i started treating gw as the joke it is, but might as well share my gem.
Its no staff, allowing the 7s shroud recharge. It really changes how the flow feels which was refreshing. Mostly i use it for better positing or double leap escape if i have HP, its more mobility for the dagger set and a more often available counterpressure set if they dive on you in axe.
spite 313 soul 322 reaper 223…….a/d+ d/wh, mix of usual utilities.
Blighters boon hp doesnt make me live longer and lifeforce i get enough anyway, so i feel im landing and doing more work with the 15% dps boost.
Spiteful spirit also seems more reliable and better overall and cz synergie.

Probably not. I have 2 jobs, and a family. I don’t have 40 hours a week to devote to PvP to raise my MMR just enough to get to Sapphire this season.
It’s why I quit. I enjoy PvE, and WvW. No law says I have to like the last 1/3rd of the game.

Basically if dps is not a problem, then why bother? youll wipe if you fail mechanics. The price is you will kill boss at 5-6th triangle safely instead of glass canon it at 4th.
Tell him to spam epidemic or suffer when he sees a seeker and voila!
Engie will fail his dps rotation on a moving chaotic target.
Youre picking between a random LFG beginner necro and random LFG beginner engie.
Take the necro 90% of times.
Why is necro crap at VG ?
It is not best for gorse as you realistically cant no updraft with it, but thats not what pugs do anyway. Its very handy, solo chills spirits and does epidemics here and there and again, less chance of dying for a bit of dps loss.
But for VG its amazing pug carrier.
You run to a circle every 15s and autoatack.
Done.
With staff ele a pug will die and in later phases staff ele is the useless one. And thats where poeple wipe. with staff ele you get record time 1st phase then wipe in 3rd phase 10x times.
With condi necro youre 15s slower but you help with breakbar and oneshot the valeguard.
Without dissrespect, treat pugs like onehanded clickers and give them less than what you consider minimal work to do.

Its not a “must have” like healer/tank/boonsharer/mightgenerator – its role is a tankier easier DPS ele – but its sooo ezpz it is the ultimate pug carry.
Recommed it to every baddie you know.
You absolutely need an ascended power weapon as it adds i think 10% with the attack points. The rest of the stat points you get is neglectible.
If you do need a pick i would go for exotic vipers and ascended berserker.
a) Vipers asc vs Vipers exo is another exception, where the difference is again neglectible. The only stat that matters is condi duration, which you can get to 100% with exotics. The condition damage stat scalles very poorly so again, its only a 2% dmg difference in full asc vs full exo.
b) Berserkers ascended you can use on both your necro and on ele.
You basically get 3x fully geared characters with this spread, the trinkets i asume you can make duplicate so you just switch 6x armors around from power necro to ele if needed. And yu can easily take strength over scholar runes.
You can play some power versions in unrank and lower mmr tiers,
but if you use greatsord in pvp you deserve to be reported for afking.
In most games i think you will still get matched with them, at best i heard theres “try to avoid”.
In terms of gw2s population its even physically impossible, its already decimated in the high level.
And its also against Arenanets vision and mentality, gw2 is a casualist game that even hides your MMR just to make bad poeple feel not bad.

Poeple dreamed low leagues would be for lowbies earning 1g/h and in high league youd earn 5g/h.
Neither rewards neither mmr filtering are actually working.
One of the PvP teams priorities is to introduce more maps into the PvP rotation.

I know a guy in diamond with that build and he is still laughing all the way.
That is another example “legendary is casually trashy low” in quality, not “condi dodge thief is amazing”.
Its a gimmick build that like any gimmick beats unprepared players, but anyone skilled beats it – even without any utility adjustments, just rotations and aproach slightly change.
5/10 today in unrank i had to afk.
The quality of team and enemies was also non existent.

Its really noticable when you dont run it, even if u take something “old godly” like 2min plague. We have krappy zero defenses so facetank route is often most efficient.
Yup that seems to be my experience with ranked games right now. I know I suck at PvP but in unranked I was right on 50% win rate. Play my first 2 ranked matches and the scores look like this, except I was on the losing team. Lost by over 600 points at Champion’s Dusk.

You have 50games played.
This not an insult but at the beginner level you have the most chaotic stuff going on. Its impossible to analyze plays in hotjoin when its closer to dice roll simulator.
In tournaments a lost 1v1 is worth 50-100 pts and a lost teamfight takes 100-200 pts of time to recover. In beginer hotjoin you can decap 1v3 immediately cz they dont look or move elsewhere like a flipper ball.
Random means anything can randomly happen, a few hundred games and youll be having more consistent equal level and logical matches (like holding an outnumbered fight leading to your normal teammates actually winning a 3v4 for example)
Second note,
Champions dusk is stronghold.
You either win or lose.
You normaly get to 100-100 with heroes, kills and gates – and then someone kills the lord and gets +500 pts.
So the match is not 600-100 , but rather “we were X seconds away from killing their lord when they got ours”.
