When you first installed GW2, how much research did you do before you chose a server?
about an hour a day over the two weeks leading up to pre-release, keeping up to date with the guild tracker and looking up which large online communities were going where.
These days there’s more information and it’s much more accurate, so really just 2-3 hours reading up on the forums and a few community sites would be more than enough for an educated decision.

an environment is just an environment, PvP and PvE both define types of activities.
WvW is a game mode that was made to have PvE activities happening side-by-side with PvP activities.

and yet I play WvW specifically because it’s an overlap of PvE and PvP.
that is my playstyle and preference… and surely I’m not the only one.

The two things that make it especially painful on celestial is that:
A) it took more time/effort to get than any other set.
B) they already removed magic find from it without replacing it’s value.
So I’m fine with them correcting the relative crit dmg values of berserker/assassin versus celestial.. but celestial definitely needs something to offset the loss.
I can only assume that the base value for the celestial stats(ie: the 47 in OP’s case) was originally balanced by taking the magic find and extra crit damage into account.. therefor without those extra advantages, the base value should be raised to compensate.

Dont forget that they also intend to change the proc of alot of “on crit” sigils to “on hit”, not sure if for traits also.
The procs will still be “on crit”, it’s just that they will be guaranteed to trigger off that crit, as opposed to how it is now: “30/60% on crit”.

It’s not a misunderstanding, it’s how Anet explicitly defined and presented the game type when the game was released.
WvW is player against player. There is no possibility of avoiding PvP if you place yourself there.
And yet I’ve often gone in to WvW without seeing a single other player for long stretches of time, pvp is frequently “avoided”.. whether we want to or not.
I’ve run the JPs, I’ve gotten map completion, I’ve defeated the centaur threat, I’v soloed supply camps, I’ve saved the hyleks… all of which are PvE objectives I’ve accomplished in WvW, often without ever dealing with opposing players.
that seems like plenty of overlap to me.

Assuming no one else is around to Epidemic them on to you… unless you’re certain they really all do show up at once(as opposed to being added really quickly but in smaller groups of 1-3) it’s probably just normal rotation. For example, my normal opening rotation usually leaves the target with 6 bleeds + blind+chill+burning+torment+cripple in just the first second(3 skills only, before auto-fire kicks in).

It’s also not said that hybrids are not viable.
I’m not sure what you really mean given the double negative but.. I solo roam with a hybrid and it plays VERY well.. so not only is it ‘viable’, but I’d even argue that it’s the best solo roaming option for necros.

I run a modified version of the legion build and it can be pretty tanky
sadly I think the changes previewed in the devstream will neuter the hybrid archetype just enough that it’s not really going to be worth running over a condibunker

Open world GvG would improve the game, populate the game world and make it feel more active.
you and others have mentioned this a few times but I don’t understand how implementing this would “populate” the world.. what is it about having this GvG model for open world pvp that would lead to more players in general and more players in currently unpopulated zones specifically?

There already are events with 100+ players and plus the other players roaming the zone. If two guilds decided to fight it out 100 vs 100 in a zone, then it wouldn’t be a problem.
Well, it’s optional to be active in an Open world GvG. If you don’t like it, then you don’t participate.
The difference is that those events only have players on one side of the equation, with pvp the complexity of everything climbs through the roof. that’s why you’ll never see 100vs100 in wvw… the performance just collapses.
which means if pve players trying to do an event suddenly have 60+ players in two groups fighting around them, it’ll directly affect their performance, whether they are participating or not.

So it sounds like even if I created a new alt, leveled him up to the 20s and sat him at a JP, the odds are still really low to get one in the chest. Probably not worth it then?
Not worth it. I’ve done the same and so far my return is 6 silver doubloons in 5 months(one chest per day)

I only play one character, but they’re useful to me anyway. I can’t play much during weeks, and when world ranker daily is up, I drink some if I can’t get two ranks in.
Can’t believe I never thought of that before, definitely starting to save them up for that now.

the idea of charging us to swap servers for a game like this, with so much dynamic content, is a horrible and greedy idea to begin with, runescape did it right (suprisingly) we should be able tos wap on the fly with a cooldown between for however long we want and that would be our permanent server, maybe this would make all the other servers feel less dead and encourage ppl toa ctually play normal content…..
Can I assume you weren’t around for the first 6 months of the game?
free transfers were HORRIBLE for server health, it lead to several servers’ populations to collapse.

Having tried out the Scepter, damage wise it simply can’t match Axe or Dagger – i was hitting for like 300-400 damage and barely critting past 1k with the Scepter, that is like HALF the damage of the Dagger where i was getting 2-3k crit hits.
Stats are all the same, gear all the same, weapon stats all the same. To be it just seems unless you are a condition build – Scepter is useless.
An element you’re not factoring in is range. Your damage output with Scepter is lower because you can use it at a safer distance, add in the directionless AOE cripple and it makes Scepter the better option for kiting.
So really it’s not inherently about power vs condition builds.. it’s about your usual engagement range and density.. which depends more on your play style than your build archetype, imho.

From what I understand once I change servers I can’t even guest back to the one I was originally on and have access to the bank I made there either.

If you Guest back to your guild’s original server, all the upgrades(including the Vault and its contents) you had will be there waiting for you.

What I suggest is redisign the gauge determining the server popolation and rebalance it to 33%;33%;33%
Then you and a large portion of the players on your server should get forcefully migrated to Vabbi or Arborstone. Do you really want that? split you off from your community, friends and guildmates?

there is no intrinsic stat gain from leveling as far as i know.
From the wiki:
“Primary attributes grow with character level, starting with 24 in each at level 1. Each level up through level 9 grants 4 points to each attribute; levels 10–19 grant 6 points each; 20–29, 8 points; … 70–79, 18 points; 80, 20 points. "

Also, nothing guarantees that you’d win if you blocked a keep door from a zerg.
What if the door was blocked by players from the same server as the zerg?
What if you logged in to your citadel only to have a ring of players blocking you in at the waypoint?

Given that PvP and PvE often describe differing and sometimes mutually exclusive player populations, I’ve never really understood the PvP requirement for map completion. It would seem to be a bad design decision at best.
WvW is where PvE and PvP overlap, by design.
there is no PvP requirement for map completion, you don’t need to defeat a single player to qualify for any of it.
However there are PvE requirements that happen to be in a zone where PvP can occur.

I find it weird that you don’t get the animation… either it ‘sees’ the stealthed enemy and affects them(including the spectral or blood bubble trails) or it doesn’t.

I am uncertain it is worth spending any laurels on wvw infusions.
If you play WvW it is definitely worth it to get the WvW infusion over its PvE equivalent.
