Game Updates: Traits

So I had already everything unlocked a year ago, came back and still. have to buy stuff to unlock it again? After this good LS update just feels like Im better of staying away from these horrid decisions anet makes.

If you had it unlocked on a character a year ago, that character will only have to buy/hunt for the 5 new traits each profession got in April.

New traits. ah thanks. I see I fell into the trap of speaking first and research later.

No worries, it happens to everyone. Just be warned that if you reroll or start any new characters, those characters will be trapped in the new system.

Guys, they haven’t even fixed events tied to obtaining traits that have been bugged for months, so I’d advise against holding your collective breath. Instead, just assume that it’ll be April before this starts to be addressed, and if it happens sooner, you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

Super Adventure Box skins?

They sold a gem store item relating to the super adventure box, so I certainly hope they plan to bring it back. However, there was an interview recently that indicated it was not being worked on at all, and a statement was made that it doesn’t fit with the living story, so who knows? Your guess is as good as anyone’s.

New Weapon Skill Unlock Is Ridiculous

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Guhracie.3419

Guhracie.3419

Weapon skills were tied to experience gained, not number of hits, so it was possible to instantly unlock all of a given weapon’s skills by swapping to it right before finishing a high level mob (dropping summoned weapons and kits in the case of elementalists and engineers). I was able to unlock all weapon skills for every class this way in just a few minutes, though I guess that supports the argument that people weren’t experimenting with weapons at early levels more than it supports the idea that it was easy to unlock skills :p

Oh, that sounds like fun and every new player thinks of this! – And I guess it didn’t depend on the experience but the kill otherwise you would get your weaponskill faster the more experience you get for the kill which means that lower levels would have gotten their skills faster but the contrahery was the case. Or maybe you got the skills faster the less experience you got.. but I actually don’t think so.

It was based on how much experience you gained from the kill.

The reason lower level players didn’t unlock them faster is they used to get experience more slowly, and therefore level up more slowly. It used to be that going from level 2-3 would take approximately the same amount of time as going from level 79-80.

That was changed in the same update that changed the weapon skill unlocks. (The 9th September Feature Pack.)

1-10 was twice as fast as 10-11 or 79-80. Other than that, you’re essentially right.

I think part of the issue is that with skills being so restricted at earlier levels, there’s a more distinct power creep than there was when the game first started. Level scaling doesn’t create that same level plane it did previously. When I started playing, if I went to a lower level zone as a level 80, I really wasn’t that much more effective at murdering things than a level-appropriate character. Given the way traits have been moved and destroyed, as well as weapon, skill, and downed unlocks all being level-gated, the discrepancy is more noticeable than ever. So part of it is that the events aren’t scaling to the crowds megaservers have created, but another part is that a lower level character simply can’t compete with a whole mess of level 80 characters doing the same event.

Wow, 60 pages of pretty much players complaining about the new trait system.

It’s called a hint Anet, take one.

They have. Now I suspect they’re trying not to make a move on this until they can feel things out better than they did the first time. Rather than, you know, rush into a change and botch it up worse.

And before someone suggests that’s not possible, please recall Murphy has laws about this sort of thing, and as bad as things are, they can always be worse.

Oh, it’s totally possible. It’s just that they’re creating more problems by not doing anything, in my opinion. And also, at this point, I’m absolutely willing to risk the trait system turning out worse, if it means we get to see that they’re actually working on it.

I was hoping this would work itself out, but it hasn’t, so I would like to mention it.

There are several events in the world boss lineup in particular that it’s nearly impossible to get credit for if you even blink. I have done Maw more often than many others, so I’ll focus on the pre-events for it (Svanir Shaman world boss in Wayfarer Foothills).

Grawl attack Krenneck’s Homestead, protect Scholar Brogun, dragon totem, Defeat the shamans, and close the portals are the events that lead up to the spawn of Maw. All of these should scale according to the number of players in the area. With mobs being weaker due to the trait changes, these guys die in a couple of shots from a level 80, and I’m lucky if I get credit for bronze participation. Spawn more grawl, more help, more portals, and make the totem have significantly more health (when the group demands it). I mean, if you blink, you will miss the dragon totem event. I was shocked to discover that killing the shamans he summoned was an event of its own when I lucked into it one day.

There are many escort events that don’t seem to scale with the crowd at all, and it’s frustrating to miss an event because of the sheer amount of people present. It makes it feel like games with tagging, to be honest, because it’s another kind of competition for kills, instead of cooperation.

This still hasn’t been addressed.

I believe that there are no map complete trait unlocks anymore, right?

There are, 6 I think. The wiki page looks pretty accurate and Dulfy’s page might not be up to date but you can see the changed events on your trait page and search Dulfy’s for it – she’s got all events on her site.
Just to help you out while you’re trait hunting, I get the point that it is confusing to have to unlock traits. Yeah, that was a pun.

DD’s larger point was that if you don’t have any characters under the new trait system, or if you do but you’ve unlocked most/all of the traits, there’s no way in-game to see the current tasks in order to properly kitten them. Or to compare against outside sources to make sure they’re correct.

The six maps to be completed (and I believe these are all for adept-level traits) are Lornar’s Pass, Dredgehaunt Hills, Blazeridge Steppes, Gendarran Fields, Fields of Ruin and Harathi Hinterlands.

No, sorry I read it otherwise: a question whether or not map completion is still required, a claim that both websites aren’t updated and a suggestion how to fix this in the future. I replied to the question and the claim. I have no opinon on the suggestion and guess I don’t have to have one =)

It helps to take in the whole post. It was a (mistaken) assertion that since DD believed map completion had been removed from the trait quests, that the wiki and dulfy were out of date. And, seeing as how DD does not have any trait-locked characters, there’s no way to see the requirements personally.

While I would like to give my 2 cents about the trait unlocks that I consider the most problematic, or the ones that I think are actually fun, the problem is, they are a moving target.
With the changes on the trait requirements, the 2 or 3 places on the internet you could use to research trait unlocks are currently not updated, including the Wiki and Dulfy.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Trait_guide
I believe that there are no map complete trait unlocks anymore, right?
So, it would be very useful to have an up-to-date table with trait unlocks so we could give feedback about them in a more assertive way. Maybe a table on the Wiki, listing the map in which the trait is, the level requirement and if the trait is related to an event, guild event, chest or dungeon.
I think only ArenaNet would be able to make such a list in a easy way, because most people unlock traits as needed, so is not common for a level 80 player to be still able to see the trait unlock requirements (since they dissapear on unlock).
That would make the discussion/feedback on specific unlocks much easier, because such feedback could be tabulated on a Google Sheet or equivalent, in the form or “scores” for each trait unlock that the interested players could give their opinions about.
Would that be viable?

Please note:

What is the best looking skin is subjective. Personally I think all the gem store stuff is worse than the skins I can get outside of the gem store. But that aside I remember when they announced their intention to do GW2 and that they would have a game store for it to buy stuff from the general consensus of GW1 players was that skins (and/or outfits) was acceptable and that anything pay to win was not. In fact I believe there was quite an effort from players to provide them with ideas on what people wanted to see in the in game store.

Are we going to start getting special little perks again for purchasing gems with real money. (actually, I’m not sure if the peeps who bought gems with gold got them as well)

Like the random minis, and backpacks.

Yes, I’m a greedy little thing that wants even more for forking over cash. :o

I believe you are forgetting. If someone buys gems with gold the gems they are buying were bought by someone else that spent real money. So there is no difference between buying gems with real money or gold. In the end the same amount of money was spent the only difference is who has the gems. The perks you speak of were gifts sent to players for buying gems between day A and day B kind of things and it did not matter if you bought the gems with real money or gold.

Those actually did only apply to people who’d purchased gems with real money.

I get that my system isn’t ideal for playing guild wars, but I can do most zones well enough. However, the lag I experience in Dry Top and now Silverwastes makes the LS unplayable for me. Is this just me? Are you doing something different with these maps that would cause them to be so horrific? Even in the instanced content in them, they’re too laggy for me to do anything. I’ve tried Dry Top during non-peak hours and throughout the release cycles, and it doesn’t seem to be related to in-game traffic.

So, the request for more suggestions….. is that because there’s nothing in this thread that seems feasible? Because… there just aren’t a ton of methods that haven’t been mentioned. Maybe it’s time for a little feedback from you guys. Blink once for “we’re working on other game modes and currently have no plans whatsoever to do anything about the trait system,” blink twice for “We have a super exciting change incoming that we think you’re going to love!” and that change is that the skillpoint requirement for vendor unlocks just doubled and it now costs an additional fee in karma, as well, or never blink again for, “Based on your suggestions, we’ve come up with (insert actual good ideas), but we’d like your feedback on the potential implementation.”

Some suggestions:
Trait unlocks now have a chance of coming out of a black lion chest- assuming you have any traits locked, of course. Selection is randomly chosen from your locked traits.

Crafting The Dreamer now unlocks all the traits.

Hold a raffle for traits, similar to the halloween skins raffle that’s currently taking place.

90% world map completion now unlocks an entire line of traits.

Each time you interact with a cow, there is a slight chance that you will get a trait randomly unlocked.

I’m just trying to come up with ideas not already listed in the thread.

Queensdale is active, other areas are less active. It’s pretty much a single player game to play PvE. There’s a new leveling system that gimps your progression. For example you won’t unlock your traits until 30th level and have to do certain tasks to assign them. Elementalists and Necromancers are fine. Play how you like.

I won’t lie, the Traits thing sounds like a hassle. What do you mean certain tasks? Like Quests? Am I better off just rebooting an old character rather than rerolling?

You are immensely better off using a pre-made character instead of rerolling. There is a specific task assigned to each of the 65 major traits, and it ranges from killing a specific champ to 100% map complete of a particular zone to wvw objectives, to dungeons and more. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Trait_guide

You can buy the traits, but the total cost is 43g and 360 skill points, as opposed to the previous cost of 2g70s.

Maize balm should be nerfed

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Guhracie.3419

Guhracie.3419

You can nerf it after I use all of the ones I have left.

On topic though, just because it enables arguments of -who is allowed to kill ambients when- and generates wealth from instance rats, doesn’t mean it needs to be nerfed into the ground.

Exploring the open world, even if its just to turn helpless rabbits into candy corn is still better than hanging around in the labyrinth all day.

It needed to be nerfed into the ground because not everyone has the same option to farm. It’s not a matter, as Chris put it, of players saying, “Thanks for farming this thing, because I didn’t want to,” it’s a matter of a lot of people who want to being unable to get back in without exploiting a glitch.

And, again, using maize balm in the open world is not worth the risk of kill stealing.

Almost all exploitable spots in arah have received changes in such a way they discourage people from doing it. Some spots like penitent, have been changed literally over night after someone opened a topic on the forums.

This INSTANCE (not open world at all…what are u talking about) has not received any change.

Even if there are profitable spots left in Arah, they can be accessed by everyone…compared to this event where, if done as INTENDED, u are automatically at a disadvantage PERMANENTLY.

Sry but i feel like u have no clue what u are talking about OR u didn’t make a good comparison.

Z is talking about how someone was banned for killing ambient creatures in the open world to prevent people from farming. There’s a post about it in the thread, but if you don’t want to look for it, then I’m too lazy to find it for you.

He’s not arguing that it makes this exploit fair, he’s saying that Anet is being inconsistent with their rules, which they are. You’ve just misunderstood his point completely.

Guhracie.3419

can somebody explain to me what the flack is a Maize Balm>

It’s an item you get from some Trick or Treat bags, or can craft if you have an artificer that’s learned the recipe (which can be obtained right now).

When you double click it in your inventory, it becomes a bundle. You get three uses of it, three “potions” to throw. Within the target area, up to three ambient (white, no level) creatures get turned into small candy corn elementals. When killed, they drop Trick or Treat bags.

The trick is that to get the most out of one, you need a good collection of ambient creatures close enough together that you can hit three at a time with each throw, AND close enough that you can use all three tosses of the potion before changing back to a weapon to kill them. (Like most bundles, if you shift back to your weapon while holding it, it’s lost.)

Ok, my understanding was the balm only worked on ambient creatures inside the mad prince instance or am i wrong? I actually tried using it on crabs in SouthSun Cove but it had no effect on them at all, that’s why i’m asking.

You’re sure you used it on ambient creatures? They’re the little white critters that die in a single hit. It does work outside the Halloween instance. The elementals it creates also die in one hit.

This makes people that don’t have the instance buy a new account to farm.

You’re joking, right? You really think people are buying new accounts just to farm this one spot for 2 weeks?

Since this brings double standards to issues that might resolve in your account being blocked and gives an unfair advantage to a sub set of the player base May be its time to take it off Anets hand and submit your comments To the BBB, under terms or quality of service issues.
http://www.bbb.org/western-washington/business-reviews/computer-software-publishers-and-developers/arenanet-in-bellevue-wa-22017235

Double standards? Better Business Bureau? You want to report this to the BBB? You can’t use the Maize Balm anyplace else in Tyria? You can only use it on the rats in that one place?

Bringing this to the BBB would be akin to calling 911 because your dog got lost. Your complaint would be scrapped, and your ears would burn from all the laughter behind your back.

Maybe this one farming spot is pretty easy/quick. But there’s nothing at all preventing you from finding another spot. (I’m sure some people have already staked out places with tightly-packed Ambient creatures that they haven’t announced for fear of nerfing.)

I’m the first to admit that ANet makes a lot of moves that I don’t like. They’ve totally destroyed some of my favorite things in both GW1 and GW2. But you guys are starting to get WAY out of touch with reality when you talk like this. Your Maize Balm works as advertised. The Halloween event works the same way for everybody. Just because some enterprising fellow put two and two together AFTER you already did the Halloween event and came up with a good farm doesn’t mean ANet is screwing you over.

I wasn’t aware of the alternate method to get into the instance, but it looks like it could potentially be called an exploit, due to actually glitching out the mechanics.

Yes, the balm can be used in the open world, but you’re transforming ambient creatures into elementals that die in one hit. The risk/reward of open world use is just not worth it, nor is the respawn instantaneous, as with the halloween instance.

I’m curious how you know what paid shills do and don’t have? lol

TSW has more than it’s share of complaints as well. It has a pretty strong core following but a lot of people got frustrated and left. Pretty much like every other MMO.

Because I’ve been on enough review sites to know how to spot fake reviewers. I translated that experience over to gaming forum, and my logic is that the point is to establish enough posts to seem legitimate and then just troll, hardcore, until you get banned. Rinse, wash, repeat. There might be some substance in some of the posts, but over a period of time, a shill isn’t going to spend that much time getting wrapped up in the competition. Just seems like common sense to me. But who knows? I’m sleep deprived right now.

Seriously, ANET, do something, even if it’s wrong. The odds of it being worse than this current iteration are potentially favorable, depending on how convoluted it is, and I see that as a worthwhile risk, at this point.

I am just so unbelievably gobsmacked that this hasn’t been addressed. If you have the metrics that show this system is serving its purpose, I would LOVE to see them. Even if it’s not exact numbers, seeing approximately how many people with post-April patch characters have all their traits unlocked, have functional builds, have options for build diversity, hunted vs. bought their traits, and have done any of those applicable things on more than one character. Oh, one last metric: How many level 35-50 characters created post-April feature patch have been mostly discarded or outright deleted or accounts abandoned.

You guys know that you should have people taking note of all these metrics, right? This isn’t news to you or anything, is it? Anet, I’m being serious. I really don’t know how much you understand, at this point. Isn’t player retention important to your bottom line?

Is the maize balm rat farm an exploit?

The 10th response to the OPs question (9 days ago!) was from ANet, who said in no uncertain terms that this is not an exploit.

So how come this thread keeps getting shuffled to the top?

Hamfast, you disappoint me. You’re usually so reasonable.

It’s a serious gap in equality as far as money-making goes for this event. But if you really think that part of the player base being locked out of the farm is perfectly reasonable and not worth questioning, then that’s your right. The thread is being bumped because creating a new thread to discuss the repercussions of this decision would likely get merged into this one. We know the OP’s question has been answered. We know that the farm will end on Tuesday, and the time to do something about it has long since passed. But it’s certainly an interesting precedent.

Edit: Tman, I never got any mail from you in-game, and unless it contains a zodiac skin or leaf of kudzu, I hope I never will.

This game is nothing more than money grab

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Guhracie.3419

Guhracie.3419

For a game that pride itself for not having a gear treadmill, and that ur end game was suppose to play dress up. Why is majority of the skin lock behind gem store.

I have no problem with skins in the gemstore, where I think it’s a money-grab is being charged multiple times to use the armor I bought in the gemstore (transmute charges).

I like keeping a specific look on a character throughout their levelling. With the green transmute stones i could cheaply keep the same look from level 1 to level 79. With the change all those greens were turned into a 1/3 charge so now it’s 3x more expensive to keep the same look on a character, actually moreso when you consider how few free charges you get in-game compared to the stones.

EDIT: Since ArenaNet says they like solutions offered to problems we see, here’s my proposal;

All gemstore skins should be free to re-apply on a single character in your account (the one who first uses the skin). For all other characters, it costs one charge per piece the first time and then is unlocked as a free skin for them as well. We already bought the skin, we shouldn’t have to keep paying to use it.

That’s is totally a greet idea. Let’s make the system even more complicated, I am sure Arenanet will be down for it, NOT.

This will not be the case when you can have your cake and eat it.

Yes, because it’s really fair that we have to keep paying over and over for something we already bought! Honestly I’d have the gemstore skins free to apply account wide. At 800 gems per skin ($10.00) they’ve made their money on the skin.

With transmutation charges normally priced at 25 / 600 gems, thats $7.50. That mean every time my character levels enough for me to change armor and weapons I have to pay $2.40 (8 charges) to get the look back. Yeah, that’s fair.

Not everything has to be fair. There is nothting to be fair about.

However guild wars 2 is fair in muliple ways:
You can use in game gold to buy them.
You can use an empty slot to farm them.
You can do PvP and get them for free.

The issue here is in your mind you THINK you DESERVE it, in the manner you chose and you don’t.

IF any of those three methods are not sufficient for you, all I can say is: it sucks to be you.

worldssmallestviolin.gif was designed for people like you.

I argue my point based off of facts and figures, you resort to baseless attacks, since you’re playing Anet white knight I doubt you’ll be infractioned for it, but I’m done with you.

I gave you three facts. You are either don’t know what a fact is or you are being dense.

In any case, you don’t have to agree with my facts, a lot of people love ignoring facts they don’t agree with, it’s human nature.

I’m not a white knight, and I agree with silver, here.

Ms. Gray, I’m so sorry. You’re in a terrible position here and none of my rancor is directed at you. If you had been in your current position from this thread’s inception, and had been able to interact with us all along, I feel like the mood in the thread would be very different from the one that was cultivated with the “mushroom” approach over the past six and a half months. But I do feel like we’ve been fed a very specific type of fertilizer in this thread.

The most simple fix would have been to make the cost of the old traits no more than 10g, in total, and leave the cost of new traits as-is. But right now, you’ve got bordering on seven months’ worth of characters where people have spent ridiculous sums of money and skillpoints to avoid this terribly balanced trait-hunt. So if there is an incoming change (and I sincerely doubt that), you’re going to have angry people to contend with, because the cost of traits is one of the more offensive things about this system.

At this point, you’ve got to be asking yourself if it’s worth upsetting all of those people versus losing those of us who are no longer having fun. I think you’ve already decided that we are an acceptable loss. I think you’re convinced that the damage has already been done, and I think maybe you’re right. Nearly seven months, with not even a “Soon” in sight, I doubt many in this thread even believe anything is being discussed. I am certainly of the opinion that the discussions regarding this thread have revolved around the idea of locking it and hoping fervently it sinks into oblivion.

Anet, I think I was wrong. We are a problem which, if ignored, will go away. And, sadly, I guess that’s fine for you.

Have a nice game gw2 community…

Let’s forget, for just a moment, that “free speech” is not a right protected on the internet. Let’s also forget that “free speech” does not mean that you have the right to say anything you want, anywhere you want, at any time you want.

You’re arguing for free speech, and you think the moderators should protect free speech by… getting rid of a disrespectful post? The mind boggles.

My negativity is to balance out people like you who praise the game nonstop. By playing devil’s advocate I help people make a more informed decision.

You know what I agree both groups are needed. The Universe needs balance but sadly their is a group of people who argue because they would rather argue or “one up” people then try and make informed critiques. The NPE is a HUGE example of that. During the release of the NPE the amount of misinformation going around was truly mind blowing. None stop praise is bad but none stop and misinformed complaints is worse. Ive already said this one and ill repeat myself. Murder in the name of passion or love is still murder you will still go to jail so please lets calm down with the whole “I talk trash because I really love the game”. If you love the game you’d critique but you wouldn’t want to start a boycott or anything that would destroy the game. Murder is still murder even if your doing it out of “love”. And honestly the line of people who critique because they want to improve the game and the ones that want to destroy it because of some personal grudge is kinda blurry atm.

The misinformation during the NPE is actually a huge example of ANET’s inability to communicate with the player base.

Seriously, were we supposed to read their minds?

Just like the tp revamp that fell on our heads with no prior warning.

It’s not murder. It appears to be suicide.

TP I can’t disagree but the NPE all the info was in patch notes. Problem is people like to see a video > reading patch notes

Uh, no. A huge part of the problem was that a LOT of the information was just left out of the patch notes.

I feel like a kitten now, though.

I’ve spent quite a few years of my life certain that this phrase means something else than it does. So I should thank you (I won’t though, ‘coz I’m a bit of a kitten). Besides, I get paid for pinpointing errors in my own language, so yeah. :P

Dude, you should feel even worse. Asmodeus isn’t even a native speaker.

Additionally, there’s nothing wrong with pronouncing the “t” in “often,” as even the dictionary lists both as valid.

That’s a recent innovation off of the consistency of other’s mispronunciations of often. The stem of the word often is “oft” with a suffix attached.

There are several examples in the English language where the stem ended with t and adding -en or -le to the end silenced it. While some have been lost with time, here are just a few examples:

list -> listen
fast [as in ‘held fast/secure’] -> fasten
haste -> hasten
moist > moisten
chaste -> chasten
nest -> nestle
wrest -> wrestle

Along with: trestle, gristle, thistle, glisten, castle, mistletoe and whistle.

Many of these other words aren’t mispronounced and the dictionary doesn’t see a need to change a grammatical rule outside of one kitten word.

You were a jerk when you corrected Asmodeus’ use of “en masse,” and you even copped to it. At least that was a proper correction. This is just an appallingly pedantic triviality. Language is a living thing, and you can cry about your linguistic purism all you want, but that doesn’t make it correct. Both are equally valid pronunciations, and it’s sad that you have stooped to that level of nit-picking.

I find it funny that so many complain that Anet’s current system of Living Story and temporary content is useless and only worth half an hour ‘playable content’, so the destroy this new content as quickly as possible. Then, low and behold, those same people are here QQing about how they rushed through it (instead of taking there time to explore what it might actually have to OFFER) and then spam QQ threads about how they can no longer access the content which could have proved valuable to their own ends.

After reading so many threats about how the implement so much “content with little value that can be grinded out in less than an hour”, I have no sympathy for you. Furthermore, I absolutely LoL at all these threads about, “Plz roll back [X Content] because I veraciously consumed it thinking it was just ‘more’ of my preconception of ‘junk’, but now I realize it had the potential to be very valuable!”

There are PLENTY more groups of ‘ambient creatures’ in the world. I’m sorry you were so adamant about knocking out that Meta Achiement within 2 hours of the patch going live. You’re not entitled to call a ‘Mulligan’ on your impatience. Those who realized that that this is a two-week event, and where in no rush, will be happy to sell you the bags that you’d like to have. Furthermore, you should appreciate their ‘slow and steady’ handling of this event, as they are keeping the prices of these bags low/reasonable.

There are plenty of other places with groups of ambients you can farm as well. In fact, there’s an entire thread full of suggestions of decent locations for those who wanted to demolish the story instance ASAP.

*If ALL ELSE FAILS, ‘Go tell your mommy…’

Well, if Tman has taught me anything, it’s that I will be waiting to consume all future content and checking for reports of similar non-exploits.

I didn’t demolish the story instance, I completed it. By doing the bloody story. I know you’re just going to continue to be insufferably smug about how you spent your time more wisely by opening your trick or treat bags, stumbling upon the consumable, staring thoughtfully at the consumable, and then, when you did the story, you were the one who saw all those rats and thought, “Hey, I better throw this balm at these rats and see what happens!” and then thought, “It’s probably not an exploit to keep doing this thing that has a 100% drop rate and can make me upwards of 40g per hour.” and then you came to the forum to find this very issue raised and already blessed by Mr. Cleary.

Yes. You’re so much better than the rest of us, Tman. I salute you.

I don’t have data to back this up, so I’m being up front that this is just my opinion. But what I’m thinking is that the gem store would do a lot better with revenues overall if they lowered the prices on most items. With many items being multiple hundreds of gems, a person has to carefully weigh if they want to spend $10 or more for a shiny cosmetic upgrade or a convenience item. Sure there are folks with a lot of disposable income where $10 here, $20 there, is no big deal. But for me and probably lots of others that’s not the case.

When I look at the example of things like the Google Play store where many apps are 99 cents, that doesn’t seem like a lot of income for the developer, but they can make up for it in volume because the threshold is low enough that many more people will impulse buy that app or figure 99 cents isn’t a major loss if the app stinks.

I believe the same thing would apply with the GW2 gem store. If convenience items like the unlimited picks were the equivalent of 99 cents, I’d get them for my characters. If outfits were 99 cents, I’d likely have purchased all of them by now.

TLDR: A higher amount of micro transactions could bring in more revenue over time than a smaller amount of higher margin transactions.

I agree with you on a gut level, but it’s been speculated on before. My sense is that their economist would have made this argument if it would, in fact, be more profitable.

There are a couple of Personal Story instances I can think of where ambients spawn thick and fast too.

Not to mention that Godslost Swamp also has lots and lots of ambient critters. Prices may stabilise, but there will always be a demand for the Balm, I’d say.

There are no drops in the personal story anymore, as of the Sept. 9 NPE feature patch. It has been confirmed that using the balm in a personal story instance will spawn the elementals, but they do not have bags.
