Because we can’t be angry about both?
Are you really missing that 1 copper that much?
I don’t think you understand the issue. There’s literally no way to see how much I’m selling certain items for anymore, so I don’t know if I’m undercutting myself by a copper or twenty gold. If you don’t see how that’s problematic, I don’t know how else to explain it.
Last year’s halloween event in GW2 ran for a month. I wonder if this means they’ve not adjusted the candy corn sinks at all. I’m not holding my breath for anything, at this point.
Yeah, it’d be really helpful to be able to see at a glance how much I’m selling something for, when I try to sell that same item again.
You know what I’ve found the most distressing hearts to do? The ones that involve erasing the art of a given group. Apparently nobody at ANet has ever studied anthropology. Oh, and that one in Ascalon (Fireheart, maybe?) where the only thing to do is stealth through the camp, but that’s just because I hate stealth challenges.
As anet anounced the new Trait System
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/traits-unleashed-forty-new-traits-and-more/
they said:
“We want it to be much easier to experiment with and learn new builds as you explore the world of Tyria.”
How should this be achieved with the new Trait System???
That was just bullkitten corporate double-speak for “this is a massive gold- and time-sink.”
SIX MONTHS.
Yes, but you’re saying he is learning about his traits now. Is he playing on a new character or one he created back then? If it is newly created, it has a whole different system than one he created prior to April of this year.
This isn’t even on my radar. There are so many things that need to be fixed before this does that it’s not even top 50, seriously.
Granted, I remember when dailies were worth quite a lot more than they are now. And, as others have mentioned, living story APs seem to be drying up left and right. I wonder how people would feel if they’d pulled a “fractals” with APs and reset everyone to 0 when the reward system was introduced, just so there’d be a level playing field. Food for thought.
Oh, and people who say that hellfire and radiant are the only two non-gemstore armor sets added to the game since launch are also forgetting about all three ascended sets.
I love making sylvari because there’s such a wide array of options for them, so I made a lot of sylvari to begin with. Then I started working my way through the personal stories for the various races. A lot of my newer characters have come as a product of RP. I also like having race/class combos that seem unlikely: Norn necromancer, charr thief, and asura warrior, for example.
I’d buy Leaf of Kudzu for a friend.
Condition Cap Fix
Probably the most important thing in PvE they haven’t fixed, or rather, found a better solution to than the terrible, supposedly temporary, kludge they’ve been using since pre-launch. The cap might be fine to leave in PvP/WvW for obvious reasons, but in PvE it undermines entire skills/builds/professions just because something similar is involved in the fight.
But hey, the last thing they said about this was that they were working on it, about 18+ months ago, so we’ve got that going for us.
January of last year actually, twenty two months since they stated that had a ‘fix’ incoming. Apparently the fix was to pretend it isn’t a problem and ignore the players that speak up about it.
I don’t remember that? Do you have a link to that post by any chance?
This is from late February (I’m guessing last year, but the forum doesn’t show me year, just month and day.) If that’s the case, it’s been twenty months.
Yeah, anytime the traits are purchased is pretty much an indictment of the system. And the only build diversity this encourages is in having a patchwork of nonsensical traits, which is just bad, and why am I even wasting my energy writing in this thread anymore?
I haven’t seen it brought up, I am positive it has, but it bears repeating: the Trait UI interface is awful and clunky since the April change.
Where before we had an intuitive cascading menu pop-up of Traits, we now take a step back in the evolutionary process and get a list and drop down menu.
Now to even “view” the choices the UI forces you to “spend” your trait points, albeit such a thing is reversible…but this is clunky.
Sifting through Traits in the “new system” is a PITA, in my opinion.
You don’t have to spend anything. Just click once somewhere on the line you want to see and they appear in the column to the left. Hovering over those will show you what each trait does, and then you can see where they are with the telescope. You have to be at least level 30 in order to see the traits, though.
I can understand the distaste over it because this is not designed for power levelers. However, if it was played like how they game intended it to be, it be fun.
Not on your 3rd+ character. It’s nothing but an annoyance at that point, compared to the previous system where everything was handed to you from the getgo, and they just threw you out in the world and said “do whatever you want”.
If you don’t want to find all those traits, you can always buy them from profession trainers.
But that isn’t making the system fun, or rewarding. People are actually paying not to play it.
If the traits were account unlocks I would genuinely love them. Every unlock, even the grub, would be satisfying. As it is, every one is just a frustrating thing that I can’t even tick off a list because I know I’ll have to do it again and again.

I really like Wizard’s Fief in Kessex Hills and Coddler’s Cove in Timberline Falls.

Oh, yeah, at 40g and 360 skillpoints per character, I’m sure everyone is rushing to do that.
My dream patch notes would just be for them to one day put out notes that said: NOTHING – because an expansion is coming (insert definitive date here)
They releasing one
If I could only pick one thing from my patch notes to come true it would /bigfish emote :P
I’ve heard a lot of people saying that there’s an expansion coming, especially recently. Where is this speculation coming from? Google hasn’t been able to present me with anything substantial and/or official.
Yes. This is a massive flaw and time sink for me.
All classes can now use all weapons!
Engineers can disable the kit backpacks.
Trait unlocks are now
Reasonably priced
Account wide
Level Appropriate
You now unlock traits starting at level 15, with one point every 5 levels.
We are introducing a third soldier class.
The Queen’s Arena is now open all year.
Our reward system is getting a complete overhaul
SAB is returning
We are adding 110 new emotes
(To be continued)
Complain cause there was only a red one and we want other colors, they give us another color and we complain cause it’s recycled… wtf people… Oh and yeah, we want to dye it but the ‘technology’ to do it doesn’t exist yet for Anet so you wont get it until 2016.
In 6 more months the blue one will come out and gem prices will go through the roof cause that’s the color we actually want. They probably already have a dozen colors just sitting there waiting to be released (can’t imagine it actually taking more than a few minutes to copy/paste, change item id and name and change the color code).
It’s almost as if there are many different people, with many different opinions, who play this game. Imagine that!
One week away from the six month mark. What a mess.
ANET, I’m waiting for word. And while I’m waiting, I’m not spending money on you. I am spending my gaming money on Steam. And, slowly, I’m spending my gaming time on Steam, as well.
I’m so sorry for your family’s loss. Just because other people are going through losses themselves doesn’t mean your pain is any less. What a gorgeous guy he was!
Ten days until the six month mark. I’d hoped to be able to buy some gems for Halloween. That forecast is not looking good.
ps- the fact I can’t even touch a grandmaster trait until level 60 sucks. I’ve heard a lot of complaining here but now that it’s really affecting me it just sucks. I wanted to slowly enjoy my level up, not be rushed ahead just so I can access what my necro can do. This cap needs to be lowered, if not for everyone at least for people who already have a level 80 and want their traits.
This is false. You can’t touch a grandmaster trait until level 80. The master tier unlocks at level 60. Source.
3. We’ve rarely, if ever, (I can’t remember a time) heard, “Players, we were wrong.” Or, “We over did/under did _______.”
Ultimately, it’s about quality of communication, not quantity. I, for one, will only begin to trust ANet’s ability to communicate when they:
Prove they’re listening by acting consistently with stated values and feedback.
Explain themselves clearly and candidly.
Admit when they go wrong.Just my two cents.
Very well stated. I will say that I can think of at least two situations where ANET has owned up to making a poor decision: One is when they put the human cultural T3 (light?) armor in as the flamekissed set. The second is John Smith talking about last year’s Halloween events and the way the candy corn sinks were set up. That’s just off the top of my head.
Okay. I’ll bite.

Edit: Illysharia, that was a brilliant summary of how I think a lot of us are feeling. Just beautifully stated, really.
(edited by Guhracie.3419)
Instead of missing the living world entirely, you can now buy the episodes you missed if you’d like to. If you’re able to log in while the episode is live, they’ll be unlocked in your journal. You don’t have to buy any of the past episodes to play future episodes, however, and you can join someone else’s instance (like with the personal story) for free to see the content.
1. The wardrobe: It makes collecting skins worthwhile.
2. The addition of living story to the journal, allowing it to be reviewed and replayed.
3. The improvements to the crafting interface and the trading post.
I feel bad for the dev team. I’ve been with this franchise since GW: Prophecies and I’ve seen them go from content designers to frustrated politicians because of a player base that is never satisfied. G dubs 2 is a different game with a different business model, and is supported by a development staff that is bound to those restrictions. Players act as if the guy making content is responsible for offering a public demonstration.
What kills me about this is that the people complaining are the same people logging on every day and spending money. I really miss the GW1 community and would trade this mob for them any day. “Communication” has become such a buzzword on these forums, and most posters have yet to agree on what that communication is defined by. The unfortunate reality is that there is a wildfire of unprovoked aggression. I can’t wait to see the complaints that arise about any future expansion
What kills me is people who fail to comprehend what they are reading. This has next to nothing to do with my thread.
Guess what? All games have “a player base that is never satisfied” because all player bases are, by their very definition, made up of many people with many different desires.
Arena net has some of the worst communication out of any game company I can think of. When they’re not giving crappy non-answers and ignoring problems, they’re outright lying to the playerbase.
you really wont see a change in communication. Josh foreman got yelled at for communicating TOO MUCH. Even if anyone at anet WANTED to communicate, they wont be able to because the higher ups deemed it bad for business.
I’ve only been around for a few months, but in that time, I’ve seen them not only make an effort to communicate more, but Gaile now has the title “ArenaNet Forum Communications Team Lead” and has been posting in several threads.
If that’s non-answers and outright lying, then consider me fully duped.
Duping!!?! ~gasp!~ Oh, sorry, different type, gotcha.
Things aren’t going to change overnight, but we are making a concerted effort to improve communications. Not every thread gets — or realistically can get — a reply. That is driven not so much by a particular topic but more critically by sheer volume. And yes, not every question can be answered, but maybe it just can’t be answered in the short term, or maybe it’s taken under consideration for a more focused means of communication, such as a CDI, or maybe you’ll see an answer in the Update Notes. And sure, I guess some questions will go unanswered, too, but not for lack of effort or interest.
The truth is, you’re noticing, or I hope you’re noticing: We’re actively taking steps to be more communicative and involved, and we’ll continue to do so as time passes.
Ms. Gray, as I’ve said, I really think you are exceptional. And I hope I have made it clear in my contributions to this thread that the uptick in communication absolutely was noted. I’m wondering if I should change the title somehow, because a lot of people seem to be getting really mired in the idea that I want developers to respond to All the Things. It is simply not reasonable to expect developers to respond to every concern voiced. I am in no way saying that you guys should be expected to do that. So let me try again and be as clear as I know how. (Please note that my “you” in the following points will be directed at Anet as a whole, and not any one person.)
1. When you start or officially sanction a feedback thread, you are obligated to read the feedback you’ve requested. Don’t come in months later and ask for a summary of the thread.
2. If there’s a topic that’s become so widespread as to need to be merged into a single thread, that’s a pretty good indicator that you should make some sort of comment.
3. If you specifically say you’re going to answer a question, do it.
4. If you make plans with people, keep those people updated.
That’s all. I know people will cry that I shouldn’t expect people to mean what they say, and that’s why devs don’t say anything anymore, but seriously. That’s just common courtesy. Nobody would accept that non-reasoning in real life.
I don’t know how to better express that I don’t want you guys responding to every single thread, since that is the best way to burn out the team.
I do NOT want developers responding to every thread. That’s not what this is about.
You can see my words, right? Is this thing on?
(edited by Guhracie.3419)
This set is so gorgeous!!
None of these are my characters.
Jamie HynemanNow I wonder if whoever has claimed that name, also made his/her character look like Jamie.
Look and act, I can confirm. He’s fantastic.
fractal playerbase is still waiting for anet to answer what the hell is up with the drop rates. and the fractal playerbase is still waiting for anet to explain just what happened to leaderboards and the fractal weapon box (and evidently, the fractal tonic)
i guess you’ve only been here for a few months, but basically, anet’s got a big history of screwing around with the players, and a few red posts on the forums wont change that
wake me up when they say something actually concrete about anything beyond “we’ll look into it maybe it’s not off the table”
It sounds to me like there are a lot of areas that don’t get solid dev communication. I understand it being frustrating and I don’t mean that in a placating way. I’ve been there.
It just sounds more like priority struggles on their part than intentionally screwing around with players (which they would gain nothing from).
Sometimes the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Maybe you fractal folks should bring that stuff up a bit more. That is, if you don’t already have active threads on the issues you’re seeing.
After a year of no communication, fractals players have largely given up. In fact, when pressed about some of these issues in the Fractal CDI , people were told that they were being off-topic and to please post elsewhere if they wanted to discuss those things. There was plenty of squeak to that wheel.
And yet, if you look at the promotions tab, the pick is there.
Basically RP goes like this.
1. You’ve created your own story that you want everyone to care about.
2. Everyone else has done the same, and they want you to care about their stories.
3. You try to earn brownie points by pretending you care about their stories, or by throwing in game lore.
4. Nobody really listens to your story because they are too busy waiting for the next chance to jump in with their own.
5. You find you’re doing the same thing.Otherwise there’s nothing icky about it. The hatred and ignorance toward it is completely uncalled for.
Alternately, you and one or more people have collaborated on a story and are writing the details as a sort of “improv” exercise. You are amazed at how well the others portray their characters and are interested in what motivates those characters. You enjoy building a story together.
I’d like to see the person who is ultimately responsible for GW2 in the proverbial hot seat answering the tough questions. He or she is the one with the answers we want.
Quite possibly they have the answers . . . but will they actually give them? Or will people not like the answers being given to the point of crying foul about it over and over?
At first glance I thought the idea had merit, but after ten seconds it sounded ludicrous. Now after about a minute, I think . . . I think it sounds impossible to do in a way which is actually going to please people who want answers to “the tough questions”. I mean, realistically, what do you expect them to answer?
- Is SAB coming back? “Sure, eventually we would love to bring it back.” Nobody’s going to like the answer, but we all know that’s the answer we’d get. Probably the people who would work on SAB World 3 aren’t working on it currently so we’d just get old content turned back on . . . which I guarantee would start a firestorm just as hot as it not being turned on until World 3 got done.
- What about traits? Ranger pets? Guild halls? Duels? Mounts? Cantha? Precursor scavenger hunt? “We’re looking into these issues/options/additions, and I really don’t know what to say other than what’s been said already.”
I don’t know, sometimes I don’t think players who loudly want more communication aren’t aware it’s a monkey’s paw wish. You almost certainly aren’t going to get what you want out of such a wish.
I don’t know if your last paragraph was directed at me or not, truly. I’ve tried to be really clear that I don’t want more communication, I want better, more consistent communication, so if it’s not directed at me, let me just apologize in advance.
Regarding the traits thread: Here’s what I want as far as communication there-
We feel that X, Y, and Z are good options. We’re currently looking at how to implement aspects of one or all of these ideas. Could you please give us some further ideas to work with regarding aspect Y? Would N be a decent compromise?
Regarding SAB- some variation of any of these: “It will not be coming back. We will issue refunds to anyone who purchased an infinite continue coin.”
“It will be coming back as temporary content sometime in the next six months. If you would like a refund on the infinite continue coin we marketed in the gem store, please submit a ticket.”
“Worlds 1 and 2 of SAB are complete and will be enabled permanently. Currently, we have no plans to expand on SAB, and anyone who would like a refund for their infinite continue coin may submit a ticket.”
Otherwise, all I really want is for more than just Chris Whiteside and Gaile Gray doing the heavy lifting. Mr. Whiteside has flagged several questions as being outside of his realm of knowledge, so maybe somebody at Anet could review his posts and respond to the things he mentioned asking other people about?
Again. This is not about me “demanding” the devs answer my questions. It’s suggesting that maybe, when they say they’re going to do something, they should follow through on it. Obviously SAB and traits are things I’m invested in, which is why they’re my examples, but they’re not the only things that need to be addressed, not by a long shot. I just wanted to give examples of answers, because it’s not about getting “my way” or whatever this is being misconstrued as. I feel it’s a fairly reasonable line of thinking.
You know, it’s not just seeing people are unhappy and thinking about doing something about it. It’s about specifically what to do about it.
So Anet first makes an update and people are unhappy about it. About half the time that happens, most people see it’s not that bad after all, and the problem goes away…because it’s not. The story I remember a dev telling was when DOA was first released in Guild Wars 1 and everyone said it was too hard, it was impossible and there were almost universal calls to nerf it. Same happened with Triple Thread and Tequatl. Lots of calls to nerf. But the community got through it.
Anet has to wait to see the longer term reaction, before they decide there really is a problem and then, they have to determine what the problem actually is (because it’s not always clear) and then they have to decide what to do about it.
There will be meetings, discussions, and you know, everyone may not be in agreement. Some people may want to change things one way and some may want to change it another way. These differences have to be worked out.
Maybe the fans are asking for something that ultimately doesn’t fit into whatever else is being worked on. Maybe there are changes Anet is willing to make, but other changes have to be made first.
For example, we know Anet is working on something for altoholics, but we don’t know what it is. Maybe that thing will make other changes unnecessary and so there’s no reason to work on some of the complaints.
Yeah, Anet should probably tell us more, but the fact is, every minute spent pacifying the forum (sometimes over very little) is another minute not doing something else. There’s been more communication on the forum, a single thread gets deleted that was all over the place and suddenly people feel Anet isn’t communicating again?
The need for constant communication from developers here is really over the top.
This thread is less to do with a desire for constant communication and more to do with some level of consistently good communication. I don’t want somebody here all the time answering every single post. That’s not what I said.
The fact is that we went for about three months with essentially no communication from the dev team whatsoever, to the forum being absolutely flooded with dev communication, and now we’re back to a trickle. Not only that, but if they say they’re going to answer something, they should answer it. If they say we’re going to meet up in game and play together, three weeks shouldn’t go by with no word about it. That is the issue, here.
And you can’t possibly be defending how they’ve “addressed” the traits thread, Vayne. You’re more reasonable than that. Saying, “We’d like your feedback now, because we’re going to start taking a look at this issue,” does not inspire confidence. Particularly not looking at how quickly they’ve managed to act on major issues in the NPE patch.
(edited by Guhracie.3419)
Note: Gaile is a superstar. I absolutely did not mean to downplay her efforts.
The thread “Communicating With You” was locked recently, and it left a lot of things unresolved. I’d summarize it, but I really don’t have the energy for doing that sort of thing anymore. Loads of questions were noted as being important and an answer was said to be forthcoming, but a month later and we’re still missing things like the promised top 10 list of things implemented from the CDI threads.
I know Chris Whiteside has had some family emergency of some sort and my thoughts go out to him, but is he really the only one at ANET who is motivated to communicate with people? Is there really nobody else who could pick up the slack while he deals with his hardship? I don’t expect the same level of commitment, but at least answer SOME of the questions? Maybe try to group up with the five people slated to run through the NPE with Mr. Whiteside? Perhaps an update on how that discussion of the trait system is going?
Communication doesn’t need to be feast or famine. Feast is a good way to burn out employees and famine is a good way to alienate players. Figure out some kind of happy medium. Please. Thanks for reading.
it is normal
if you stole something on the ground and go underwater you can’t use that item and steal is locked untill you go back on the ground and drop stolen item
is it annyoing? yes
will it ever get fixed/solved? mostlikely notgiven that you actually get “locked” icon i assume it is actually intended
Yeah, I didn’t have a locked icon at all, the steal button was gone entirely. That said, I used it today, and it worked just fine, so I have no idea what the issue might be.
None of these are my characters.
Myra Venge
Helena Handbasket
Adam Baume (Engineer, of course)
Vicious Cuddles (Asura)
Jamie Hyneman
Turret Obliterator (engi that ran around blowing up his own turrets)
Thanks for the info; I’m glad it’s not just me.
Yep, it is for sale too, just not on the front page. Good eye, Vavume.
Before anything else happens, they need to fix the trait system.
The reason people are starting to say that anet should pick discussion topics is because they’re not willing to disclose what they’re working on, so if they’re choosing to talk about something, it’s at least a little more likely that it’s an area of interest for the development team.
I’ve been doing map complete on my thief lately and I just noticed that I don’t have steal underwater. Is that a bug or is that working as intended?
With regards to the personal story, I don’t think the 9/9 patch changed anything about your story step. I just mean that it’s now literally gated until you actually hit those required levels, which is just one more bit of tedium in an already awful system.
It only just occurred to me how the changes to the personal story have impacted trait acquisition. I should start listing my personal story missions on LFG so uplevels can join and get their traits. I mean, it was always unreasonable to have the story missions so much higher than the traits warranted, but now you either have to be at or higher than those levels, or you rely on the hope that someone will let you in on their story.
What a waste of a previously good system.
That volcano base thing would kind of explain the removal of the shark from the Metrica lake.
About the paying thing: you must admit it was kind of hard to expect they are going to cut the existing content… Adding things I wouldn’t like? No problem, I’d avoid them. Destroying the bunny heart in Wayfarer’s by slashing the bunnies’ AI? Forcing people to dance for cows? Too much, man, too much, too much.
The bunny AI was the same as always when I played it shortly after the patch hit. Sure, there are fewer bunnies, but they do the same thing as always.
The lock on the “Communicating With You” thread is pretty much the icing on this cake, and it’s not the kind of cake you want to eat.
I miss the project profits. Now I actually have to do math to see if I can sell at at profit when flipping crafting mats to crafted items.
The projected profits was always misleading because it only included the TP fees, not the tax. You were actually probably losing more money that way, if you weren’t already doing math.
The GM tier was 2g, the master tier was 50s and the adept tier was 10s to unlock, prior to the April 15th patch.
Hey, Chris, I sent you this message in game, but I’m not sure if you got it. As I said previously, I’m going to be out of town tomorrow, but I’m going to be hanging out with a friend who is a gw2 player and she has said that I can use her computer for the leveling thing if that’s still in the works.
