A mesmer helping you is a nice person who’s ok with you having no interest in beating the challenge he just did.
You teleporting to a random is like someone using cheats in games to skip the hardest part. And instead of creating this either useless or overpowered crap, ANet could’ve used the resources to improve some other systems.

You can’t teleport to random people, if I’m understanding it right. They have to be in your party. Also, a mesmer can’t control who goes through their portal. Dunno. It just seems like a weird thing to be upset about.

This is an interesting post, and reading it has just earned me 5g!

EDIT: 5g was never received. If you’re going to try to buy a thread bump in Lion’s Arch, at least follow through with the payment.

Update: I did receive the 5g! Sent it back, though. Just wanted to be able to verify one way or another if this user was scamming in Lion’s Arch. You can now bump with confidence, folks!

Hello forum my old friend
It’s good to see you bug again
People citing things that no one said
People writing words that won’t be read
And a dev team biding with cotton balls in their ears
Disappears
Within the the sound of forums

Nice! But you forgot to finish it, so here goes

“Fools,” wrote I, “you’re not alone
Our pleas are one collective groan
Present ideas that the devs can use
Be constructive; please do not accuse”
But my posts were consigned to rot in hell
And echoed in the wells of forums

And posters still ranted and raved
Convinced this game could not be saved
And reassurances are forthcoming
In promises of updates incoming
CC Danicia wrote “feedback, issues, or questions, please use this thread
Based on this post”
And whispered in the sound of forums

Seriously, how much more constructive could I be? At this point, I would like ANET to do anything because there’s a solid probability that whatever they do will be an improvement. This is just a handful of my most well-received posts in this thread (and others, about traits). CC Danicia doesn’t even work for ANET anymore. Babies have been made and born in less time than this thread has existed.

Edit: I seem to have misunderstood the intent behind the addition to the song. Apologies, but this still stands for those sniping about constructive commentary.

I love all the people saying that the forums are the worst place to ask for this sort of advice, yet all the advice is pretty much even-handed and fair.

Edit: Since my statement is apparently terribly unclear, I would like to clarify that the advice I’m pointing to as “even-handed and fair” is the advice offered to the original poster of this thread, in this specific thread. My deepest apologies to those of you who thought I meant that the entirety of the forum is fair. I would never suggest that, and many of my highest rated posts have been in defense of ANET. Thank you for your time and attention.

I don’t recall saying you were doing something worth reporting. And no I didn’t read 70 pages and don’t expect anyone to. And no I haven’t read your entire GW2 forum life story. But I did read a few of your post that you’ve been posting recently.

I’m personally recommending my friends stay away from the game in its current state. You should also know that if you create a new character, you’ll have to unlock all the traits, too.

Normally I’d be saving up for the sales in GW2 right now, but the last of my November entertainment money went to Steam. Feel free to drop me a message if you want my Steam name to add me there and keep in touch.

You’re talking about telling people to not play the game and that you’re moving your money to another game and people should hang out with you there instead of in-game.

And you’re doing it in the same entitled voice that I’m seeing all over the forums from people who complain unconstructively, cry foul-play and injustice at everything that doesn’t work 100% perfectly, and make outrageous demands thinking that they should get whatever they want because they spent some money on the game. (You could spend a few hundred $ USD on the game and you still haven’t paid for even an hours worth of work by the ANet staff.)

I don’t care what you’ve said or done in the past, because in the present you’re just another bag of complaints doing the exact opposite of what you should do if you want something to be done about the problems you perceive.

I offered a suggestion for how to change traits. And I suggest you share your own alternative solutions in this thread instead of telling everyone you’re giving up on playing the game.

Steam is not a game, it’s a social media site for gaming. I don’t know how to make that more clear.

I’ve shared plenty of ways to improve the traits system in the last seven and a half months. You don’t know me, and you’re not interested in getting to know me, and that’s fine, but if you want to lecture me about being constructive, I’m simply going to ignore you from here on out. Enjoy your completely ignorant arguments about how I should or should not be posting.

This would be fine if our feedback really mattered. As the trait system nears the one-year mark, however, I am less and less convinced that they’re interested in any of our ideas here. I am actually telling my friends/family that I do not want any gem cards for the holidays this year.

You’ve already stated you’ve given up on this game. Why not give up on the forum? ANet can’t appease everyone’s particular desires. Your opinion doesn’t always line up with others when it comes to what people want and what you want changed.

Becoming unshakably disgruntled at the game and trying to rally everyone to Team Hate-ANet and suggesting everyone quit and join you on steam is not a productive way to get what you want.

Here’s a link about giving CONSTRUCTIVE feedback and criticism:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/How-to-Give-Good-Feedback/first#post3383470

Mark Katzbach explains exactly how to be heard on the forums. If you want to be heard by ANet, follow his instructions.

Are you kidding me? Unless you’ve read my posting history, you have no grounds on which to condescend to tell me to read what Mark Katzbach thinks will get me heard on the forum. And if you’ve read my posting history and can still think to condescend to me, you’ve got more issues than I can begin to comment upon. I’ve been exceedingly constructive. And I wasn’t going to point out that your idea has already been mentioned at least twice in this thread, but now I’m going to do just that. You know why you didn’t know that? Because it’s nearly 70 pages long, and who has time to read all that?

If you think my post violates forum rules, there’s a handy “report” button in the bottom right corner. Use the kitten out of it. Let the moderators do their jobs, but do not scold me. That is not your job. Feel free to apply for a position with ANET if you’d like for it to be, though.

I sure as kitten am disgruntled. I bought a game that I loved playing, and then ANET demolished the part of the game I loved the most… and then tried to sell it back to me at about 500% of just the coin cost. We’re closing in on a year now with the only comments in this thread being mild platitudes about how our feedback is really valued, and we should keep on giving our feedback.

And I’m not telling anyone to quit GW, I’m offering my steam nickname to anyone who is interested in keeping in touch. Steam is a sort of social media for gaming. I’m discouraging my friends from picking up the game and/or returning to it, but that’s different from trying to convince the forum to jump ship. Don’t lie about what I’ve said; it’s all there for folks to see. Just don’t.

Are you KIDDING me right now?

Game Updates: Traits

Guhracie.3419

I’m a wvw player, I don’t like PvE that much that all I do is running around exploring. Just pay up is easier said than done as it’s pretty costly – gearing new characters is anyway.

I think this is an example of the main issue which is that trait unlock requirements are more oddly specific than diversely generic.

People say you are lazy if you don’t do the trait requirements but the reality is you can be a super active player and never unlock traits if the unlock requirements just aren’t what you ever do.

I’m also a primarily WvW player and most of my alts I’ve created for the sake of diversifying my roles in WvW. If I have to pay to unlock traits it’s basically like I’m being fined for not playing PvE on every character.

The game is supposed to be play the way you want to play. I don’t want to play PvE on most of my characters. I have only a few specific characters who exist for PvE.

I like the idea of unlocking traits BUT the unlock requirements need to be more broad or generic so people can unlock them without playing parts of the game they don’t want to play.

IDEA: Traits are made to enhance your skillset. Why not unlock traits similar to the way you used to unlock weapon skills? The more you do a certain type of thing, the closer you get to unlocking a trait.

Example: Necro: Unlock “Training of the Master” trait (which boosts minion damage) after slaying 150 foes with summoned minions.

This would be fine if our feedback really mattered. As the trait system nears the one-year mark, however, I am less and less convinced that they’re interested in any of our ideas here. I am actually telling my friends/family that I do not want any gem cards for the holidays this year.

Gossamer

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Guhracie.3419

Guhracie.3419

Gossamer bolts now below 1s (70c buy orders), this doesnt feel right. Anet do something please.
Silk is worth over 8 times more :/

As has been stated numerous times in this very sub-forum, Anet doesn’t do anything with the prices on the TP. The prices on the TP are set solely by players. Of course Anet sets the drop rate, and that argument for prices of mats has been fully exhausted. In the end the players control the price.

The main problem with Gosamer, as stated before, there are very little sinks for it. Other then getting crafting to 500, there really is no use for it. If anet were to do something, they would need to increase the use for it. Also, many people forget, that silk, before ascended, was in the same place as gossamer. Stuff was super abundant, and super cheap on the TP, almost not worth buying. Then along came ascended, and bolts of damask, and the 3 scraps per bolt for silk. This wasn’t an accident, the repercussions of such a move were carefully considered, and the long term effects were weighed long before such an implementation happened. It was by design, and it has achieved its purpose.

Part of the problem with silk, and most mats, is that no one wants to farm it. It’s easier and faster to run a few dungeons and buy it off the TP, but that only creates more demand, and thus a higher TP price. You want a lower price on the TP? Don’t buy it, do the work and farm it.

Part of the thing that many people overlook is that ANET has a hand in TP prices because they set demand, via sinks.

Thanks everyone for giving us some feedback on this system we’ll meet internally and discuss this system some more as I think there are a lot of valid points being brought up here.

Hello Isaiah,

I thought I’d fish back to retrieve this post as it still remains quite relevant to this thread. Before your reply, there were 4 months of feedback and data (as requested) that the community spent quite a lot of time compiling. Since your post, there have been 3 more months of feedback from the community, again as you requested.

There has been acknowledgement from you and Chris that the Trait re-vamp needs adjusting, and our feedback was needed as part of the process towards improvement from its current build. In 7 months, the community has helped with the process as best we could. We have done our part.

Understanding your communication policy of not divulging specifics of your development goals, it is not an unreasonable request to have an update on whether the re-working is still a go, or if the idea has been scrapped altogether. I am not asking for deadlines, or details of change. I am merely asking for a basic degree of common courtesy to be returned to the community that has compiled 7 months of requested feedback.

I hope this message reaches your desk. Thank you for your attention.

I really respect your tone, because for me, another red post full of platitudes is not going to cut it. I don’t care if O’brien himself comes in here with a song and dance about the importance of our feedback, because I will believe it when it is live and in-game, and not a moment sooner.

Once I get engaged in a new MMO, it’ll be too late to win back my business, even with the changes I mentioned above.

“or the addition of Pact weapons as BL skins” – what was the last fancy weapon set added that was not a BL skin? That’s how they add special weapons to the game. special armors seem to come from LS rewards, special weapons from BL tickets. the only non-BL set that comes to mind would be fractal weapons from like 2 years ago.

‘A feature release is not an expansion, it’s a release focused on game features. Examples of game features we’ve done in the past would be: guild missions, account achievement system, spectator mode, new pvp maps, daily world boss chests, removing culling and giving visibility options, the WvW WxP system, etc.’

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Expansion-sized-patch/first#post3748098

See also:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Feature-Patch-Polish-not-content

I’m not referring to what they said feature packs will be. I am suggesting that ArenaNet completely changes the current objective of the feature packs team in order to add to the core of the game.

Drink 1 will be milk. Drink 2 will be water.
You’re saying, “But I want drink 2 to be milk, too!”

Content patches are different from feature patches in the same way that milk is different from water.

I mean, by all means, say you want more milk. But don’t say that water should be milk. The argument you’re making is inherently flawed. Say, “Stop working on features to work on content,” or “Give us more content patches instead of feature patches.” But when you say that feature patches should have more content, it just sounds like you don’t know what a feature patch actually is.

It sounds like your luck is a little on the poor side, in this instance, but there’s no guaranteed way to get a scrap/ticket from the chests. Also, it’s really not worth speculating on any level of conspiracy from ANET, as there’s absolutely no way to verify or disprove any of that. After spending 100 of the 127 GOLD coins (aquiring 800 GEMS) it seems that I now have to amass another 23 GOLD to be able to buy more GEMS. Yet I don’t need 400 more GEMS I only need 100. Acquiring another 23 GOLD could take me weeks if not months!

To me reading this it sounds like he was exchanging gold for gems.

The response he left clarifies that he is talking about buying gems with gold and is suggesting that the only way to specify how many gems you want is by using cash, which is the opposite of how it works. It actually does work as you described.

I agree with the feedback that’s been provided thus far, and would like to add that it’s not just about external interviews. One of my biggest issues with communication is people not having access to the same level of information. I’d like to see it set up with a locked thread for links to external interviews, but also for topics of concern, including:

Precursor crafting
NPE changes
Gem conversion updates
Communication
Traits
Wardrobe/Outfits
Anything pertaining to gem refunds/item exchanges (like the unlimited harvesting tools)
Personal story
Conditions in PvE
Megaserver
Updates on known bugs
CDI discussions
Game Modes
Super Adventure Box

Basically, if a dev posts in a massive and/or merged topic, there should be a mirroring topic in the “news” section, which also contains the post. That way, when somebody asks me for a source when I say that the dungeon team has been disbanded, all I have to do is go to the news section and look for the dev thread with all the comments on dungeons.

It might be asking a lot to do retroactively, but given the alleged desire for better communication, it seems worth the effort. It’s just tiresome hearing the same arguments about what was said and where and by whom, and the ANET blog and forum is just useless in this regard.

What's wrong with Traits?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Guhracie.3419

Guhracie.3419

In addition to the already mentioned:

Originally, you got one trait point (using current style: 5 old trait points = 1 current trait point) at lvl 15 and then every 5 levels until 80. Now, you get your first trait point at level 30, and every 6 levels until lvl 66, then 2 trait points every 6 levels. Meaning you get your trait points a lot later in the leveling process. This makes leveling less fun, and makes it a lot harder to try out different builds and playstyles until you’re actually level 80.

Also, the level at which traits unlocked has been moved back. Originally, you unlocked Adept at level 11 (well, 15), Master at lvl 40, and Grandmaster at lvl 60. Now, it’s Adept at 30, Master at 60, and Grandmaster not until 80. Which, again, reduces or removes the ability to access important parts of builds until you have finished leveling.

Just a note, but the adept line was unlocked at 11, you just didn’t get the first minor trait until 15. But you did get the stat boosts that came from the line.

I like the compression of the points, myself. It just feels cleaner. But they need to be awarded earlier in the leveling process. I’d like to see it start at 15 and mimic the original cadence. (As above; master at 40 and grandmaster at 60)

Traits were tools to further customize your character and refine your playstyle. I can’t imagine that people using them “wrong” is worse than people not using them at all.

The major problem with the change to traits is that Anet took something that was more or less freely given (2g60s), and is now trying to sell it back to us at either 500% of just the original coin cost (that’s not taking into account the absurd 360 skillpoints) or forcing a bland, cookie cutter path to character progression. All professions have exactly the same list of trait tasks, and you might enjoy it once, but will you enjoy it twice? Five times? Twelve times?

It’s not an improvement.

Well there is the Linksville section of the forum but considering how far away it is from the main boards (you mean I have to scroll!!) few players would see them there. But of course that’s mainly useful for news articles and not social media venues for news.

Does ANET post links to all of their important information there, or is it players posting links? I’m talking about ANET linking all of their updates in one place.

I wish I had known about cosmetics sooner

A little over a year ago some of my friends started playing GW2. They tried explaining the good things about the game and why my husband and I should start playing with them. “Open world dynamic events,” they said. “Living Story,” they said. While it sounded intriguing I wasn’t convinced enough to put down $50 to try another MMO.

Fast forward to the end of September of this year. Husband and I hear about the free trial week and 50% off price. “Why not?” we say and begin downloading.

Within two days I was hooked and we each bought the game. But not because of any of the things my friends had tried to use to convince us to play (though they are pretty good too) – No, I am hooked because of the cosmetics.

Why, oh why, hadn’t my friends ever mentioned the extensive collection of dyes? Or the amazingly detailed and option-rich character creation? Or the wide variety of weapon and armor skins?

Nearly two months later and I am still hooked on this game. My main character is a Sylvari mesmer, all decked out in the Orchid armor set dyed a beautiful deep purple to match her skin, hair, and glow color.

I definitely still have heaps to learn. But I think I am going to be here awhile

Maybe they did not mention it becouse the way to get those is very boring in many cases and you will likely often run into a skin you like only to find out getting it is almost impossible.

That is, if you are not willing to spend a lot of money on the cash-shop to buy all of it.
I personally also care more about cosmetics then stats and it is what I loved to collect in most games. In GW2 however while there is much more of these things collecting them usually ends up in a boring gold grind and so is the least fun way compared to those other games.

That might be a reason they didn’t mention it.

Oh, come on. I’m disgruntled enough right now that I’m getting infractions left and right, and even I can see that there are PLENTY of gorgeous skins that are easy to acquire in-game. You do not have to pay outrageous sums to have fun with the wardrobe/creation tools.

I’m trying to tread carefully, here. I want this to be constructive and helpful. Please read this with that tone in mind.

A lot of statements and communication tend to get buried, either in the forum or by virtue of not being mentioned on the official forum. When you [ANET] tweet something important, or post something important on facebook, or give an interview at a con, or write a forum thread with key information [Like the information about the dungeon team being disbanded, or the update on precursor hunts], could you have a dedicated forum with links/transcripts/quotes of those things? Often, here on the forum, little things are dropped into specific threads that people might not even associate with the information. “I Have A Question About The Economy” talked about 2013’s Halloween candy sinks, for example.

Mike O’Brien’s thread about better communication would have been well-served by being in a more visible location. I’d be happy to flag posts (and I’m sure I’m not the only one) to help the mods more easily identify these sorts of things. It’s really weird that a company as old as ANET doesn’t have any centralized aggregate of all their news.

[Suggestion] Relocate Ambients in Rata

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Guhracie.3419

Guhracie.3419

No prizes for guessing why. It basically boils down to two questions:

1) Am I more entitled to kill an ambient creature for my Weapon Master achievements than someone who is using Maize Balm against creatures to farm Halloween Bags?

Answer: No.

2) Am I more entitled to use Maize Balm against ambient creatures to farm Halloween Bags than someone who wants to kill ambient creatures to get the achievements for a certain Weapon Master?

Answer: No.

The only way it can be solved without ArenaNet taking sides is to remove the ambient creatures altogether, so both sides have to get their ambient creatures elsewhere. We need an environment where people are respectful of each other.

But what if I am killing ambient creatures in godslost swamp and you show up and want to use maize balm there. Does ANET need to do the unbiased thing and remove ambient creatures from the swamp? Seriously, what would this accomplish?

People seem to have attachment issues. This is a game, not a personal relationship. You may be a wonderful person, you may be a nutbar, all the same thing since you are a name and in some cases several books worth of postings on forums or whatever. Nothing more.
There is no relationship except business to customer.
They owe you nothing but the game.
If they lose people it is not because they don’t love you.

Your straw man isn’t even very good. I feel sad for you.

If they lose people, they lose money.

This whole conversation is about the business/customer relationship.

Snookums, I have no idea what you mean by “if you start that game again.” What game, and when did I start it previously? I’ve edited my post to be more thorough if you’re interested, but the irony of your response is astounding. Seriously.

Starts page 60 of this thread and goes on for a while.

By “a while” you mean “four posts.” Got it. Thanks for the reminder! I now have a post-it note on my computer with your user-name, reminding me not to engage with you. You missed my point then and took it as a personal attack, which it wasn’t, and are now determined that whatever I say must be an opening for a confrontation.

Look. I’m sorry I hurt your feelings. Sincerely. Sometimes I phrase things poorly, and I get hung up on trying to make sure my message is understood without really focusing on my tone, and that often leads to me coming off as abrasive, which I probably am anyway. It’s one of the flaws with text, and, apparently, my personality.

They may have numbers, but they don’t know how it feels to go through the process. There’s a difference. And I’m not convinced they actually pay attention to the metrics involving traits, personally.

They do, that was why they changed the trait system in the first place. It was discussed during the marionette event and they said they were astonished how many people paid that little attention to their traits and changing skills to different situations.
So: You say that they should learn how it feels, but do you know how it feels to all those who don’t write in this thread? Do you know whether or not they like it? The one time someone came into this thread and said he was a new player who liked a),b) and c) but not d) about the system he was met with some rather harsh words. I guess having a look into the data makes more sense than just listening to what we 5 people here have to say. AND it goes faster than making anet try their system themselves.

Oh, I guess that’s why most games don’t have playtesters, because metrics are all that matter. Oh, wait……

Honey, if you start that game again, then have fun – or read what I wrote, think about it and reply in a non pasive agressive manner or: DON’T REPLY TO ME AT ALL.

Additionally, there are more than 5 people talking in this thread. It has dwindled over the course of six months, of course, as other people have probably either decided it wasn’t worth it to post, or have moved on to other games.

Once more, the lack of any real centralized information about what the devs say rears its head. I’ve never heard that Marionette was the reason they changed the trait system. I’ve only heard what they’ve said in their blog posts about it, which was that it was to encourage build diversity.

No offense but anet collects all data of us: They know how many new players have what traits unlocked, maybe they even know how long it took them. They know how many veterans have unlocked/or bought traits – they know of all the problems we’re discussing. It wouldn’t make any change if they were to try the system themselves because they already know. And well, we know less than them as most of us writing here are veterans, we can only assume how new players feel about it.

They may have numbers, but they don’t know how it feels to go through the process. There’s a difference. And I’m not convinced they actually pay attention to the metrics involving traits, personally.

Up until April, I’d have said 2. But I refuse to support a game that sells a gemstore item on the premise that it will be useful periodically, then 12 months after the original introduction of the item, announce that there is absolutely no timetable for when that item will be usable again… but still refuse to offer refunds.

I refuse to support a game that took traits away and tried to sell them back to us at more than 500% of the original cost.

I refuse to support a game that chose to reset progression without so much as acknowledging the concerns of the community.
