lol@allthecarebears
This is exactly the attitude I’m talking about. Anyone who doesn’t want to duel is automatically a carebear.
I’m a regular in WvW and I don’t really run with the zerg. When I’m out roaming and some guy in the distance bows in my direction, I bow back, and It’s On!
That’s what WvW and combat areas are for, but the open world here is a collaborative effort by all players playing on the same side. Open world dueling would destroy that.
The fact that these open world pvp types are so persistent with this on the forums is exactly the reason why so many of us never want to see it become a thing. You guys don’t know how to take no for an answer, and your attitude would be the same if open world dueling or GvG ever became a thing.
I have nothing against dueling, just take it to an instance or WvW.
Hopefully one of these days the mods will just auto-stop these open world combat ideas.
I’ve been watching bosses fail for a couple of months now. Some are better than others of course, like the Golem or Maw, but the dragons can’t be completed without a certain number of people and the fire Ele doesn’t scale down to small groups very well.
But you know, Scarlet…
Not this topic again…. ><
This isn’t a new idea
Getting to level 500 Jeweler will probably be some sort of repeat of what we’ve already seen with armor and weapons. We’ll probably be “re-discovering” a number of exotic recipes in order to gain levels to 500. We’re likely to need a large amount of Ori ores, and gemstone Orbs, or the dusts to transmogrify what ever stones we already have, up to T6 Orbs. There seems to be lots of everything on the trading post.
The new incoming ascended recipes will like require a certain amount of Xunai Electrum, bloodstone dust, empyreals and dragonite because Anet regularly re-uses stuff like this and I’m sure this will be no different.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see another level of gemstone transmogrify possibly using crystalline dust, but also maybe that new crystalline ingot item. That might be the new jewelry time gate item…. ><
Hopefully we’ll get some news today, if they give us the usual one week preview information for the next patch.
•Exploits (Many time gates are there to avoid exploits)
•Overflow issues (the way our tech works without a time gate, you can use overflows to reset your timer)
If “exploits” are such a problem that time gates are necessary, perhaps the whole QA process needs better management, in order to trap those exploits before these crafting processes are brought to the game.
I don’t really understand the reasoning behind time gating anything in a game
without a sub fee.
Fixed that for you.
I can’t really use TeamSpeak either. I have hyperacusis.
I don’t command much these days because just like you, our server pretty much demands that people use TS. So, I stick to scouting and reporting a lot. People know who I am and when I cry wolf, there really is one there.
Not that all commanders respond to scouts though. I think there are more than a few deaf commanders out there.
Anyways, i think adding a new dye takes quite some time and effort to make it work with all the armor….
I guess this would be bad time to remind you that Anet adds new dyes with almost every living story?
“So much for my patient collecting work.”
I dont see where your patient collection work gets influenced in a bad way just because someone bought up half the stock of coriander. Quite the opposite.
Yeah, I’ve got a nice profit but I wanted a whole lot more than what I’ve got, before the price moved. Someone just bought up half the stock on the TP. This news will get around fast.
There has been a lot of speculation about ascended cooking, but the one thing that makes perfect sense is a new level of recipes for unidentified dyes. I’ve been slowly accumulating coriander seeds because basically there aren’t any on the trading post.
They are used for unidentified rare gray dye recipes. If Anet follows the usual formula for Exotic gray dyes, there isn’t enough Coriander on the trading post for even 250 dyes.
It looks like someone noticed. The price is up almost 50% in the last hour.
So much for my patient collecting work.
I said it was a terrible idea, I still stand by that. I did world map completion on 5 characters, I loved the open world and hated the WvW maps for all of them.
I have a relatively new character, a thief that I built so I could learn how the class works. I’ve learned lots and I’m getting better at dealing with them in WvW, but I’ve never taken that character to WvW. Because of gearing and “vertical progression” in WvW ranks I normally only play one character there.
My other characters all have WvW map clearance because early on I wanted the gift siege stuff from map clearance, but I until today I didn’t do that with this new thief because I have tons of siege these days.
Because of this thread, and just for the hell of it, I took my thief to WvW tonight. I finished map clearance on my server borderland, and our corner of EB, and got all the points in SM Castle too. I got out of there by the skin of my teeth, but that’s because I take a certain amount of pride in “not dying”. I could have just laid down and died, and still gotten the POI. It was more fun for me to let them chase me.
I’ve chased a lot of thieves in this game too.
My point is, this isn’t so hard. It just takes patience and I’ll bring that character out of the box again next weekend, depending on what color we get in the match up.
Last of all. I only have 100% map completion done on exactly 1 of my 6 characters, even though WvW mapping is done on 5 of 6. It’s not the hardest part.
“you scared bro? duel me bro? you scared? I’d kick your kitten , bro!” so you ignore him.
Then his guild starts up with “you scared, bro? duel him bro! don’t hide behind ignore, bro!” And we’d soon discover the upper threshold of the block function.
Exactly this.
Anet could get a clue card about rotating colors a little more often but the map completion itself isn’t all that hard. You just have to be a bit patient.
Early on I did WvW map completion on all my characters because I wanted the siege items that came from completing those maps. I actually found Orr to be harder for map completion than WvW was.
What if there’s an option to block their duel requests?
Every single time this comes up in an MMO, those who don’t duel are automagically labeled a carebear. There are plenty of fights in WvW and sPvP is over there —-—→
3. That one guy
yes him. we all have that one guy we want to 1v1 while guildmates and bystanders alike watch it go down. I have one, and I tell him every time, when dueling comes out, he’s first
This is exactly why dueling isn’t going to happen.
WvW: We feel like WvW season 1 rewards were really disappointing. I am not talking about being rewarded with gold or great powerful items in-game but I feel like the work on finishers and titles could have been better. Is that a problem you consider relevant on your side?
”We’ve taken a hard look at all the rewards for season one and we feel like we’ve learned a great deal about how we can do a better job of providing rewards for the next season of WvW after reading the player feedback, and discussing our own experiences as players through season 1.” ~Devon Carver
This could not have been answered sooner, and in the relevant thread in the WvW sub-forum?
A lot of those world events have “pre-events” and when nobody goes to do them, the main event doesn’t happen. I remember the bad old days for the Behemoth event. That guy basically never spawned because the timer on Sister Brenda was wrong.
The funny thing now of course, is that many people still don’t understand to keep an eye on the monastery brew shipment events, even though the Behemoth window is wide open and counting down.
So go ahead and randomize it. We’ll go back to the bad old days of never seeing some of these bosses.
There are a lot of gaming related disability issues that all development companies could work on, but they clearly don’t have much interest. Unfortunately there isn’t much profit in catering to such a small group of players.
That said, there is a whole bunch of low hanging fruit that could be picked, and the game could be a lot more fun for everyone. Your turning issue is an awesome example. Fast turn vs Slow turn could be a keybind.
My issue is sound related. Apparently there is an audio signal when an nearby character comes out of stealth. I had no idea because I never have the audio on. I’m not deaf. I have hyperacusis.
I don’t think there are any animations that ‘slow down’ your character while falling, so they’d have to code for that.
Chill!!! with a different character graphic.
… and quit killing good ideas in the making.
The player limit is fine, what the game needs are additional open world boss events on par with the Tequatl event to choose from, such that the map will not always hit the player limit during prime time.
We have the karka queen, and guess what? Yup, the boss train rolls from Taco to the karka queen causing overflows for that map too, and the people who get stuck there can’t get that kill either.
Oh go ahead, revamp the Shatterer and watch the overflows just keep on rolling.

ie: even if the servers and every player’s system could handle it, do you really want to have 600 ppl fighting the same champ?
Sounds good to me. Let’s go!
I’m sure I don’t really need to explain why, because I’m sure we’re all a little sick and tired of overflow events. I went to our own server event 30 minutes early tonight, and still got kicked to overflow.
The situation is even worse when one of the Taco Kill Guilds decides to invade.
You fight them in exactly the same way you fight a perma-stealth thief.
Except mesmers can deal tons of damage while hiding in stealth. Thieves have to reveal themselves, but a mesmer can have the clones up dealing damage the whole time they are hiding.
Not quite right. The clones don’t do much damage, but my phantasms can. Yes I can launch those while stealth. They can be blocked, interrupted, knocked back and even killed, but running away is a better idea.
Mesmers have no mobility. If you don’t like the fight? Leave.
If “last seen” were a thing some smart boy would figure out how to mine the information, and then we would know exactly how many players are in-game daily.
Just do a “last seen = today” search.
Obviously Anet doesn’t want to share that sort of information with anybody.
Nope. It’s not fun. Besides that, I have thousands of the things and nothing to spend them on.
Most of us have the free 20 level scroll, so that’s a start. After that, daily achievements and personal story, with a bit of crafting thrown in. Crafting jewelry and cooking to 325 is still fairly cheap.
It takes about 3 weeks to level an alt that way.
The default response is usualy " so you go and buy gems" but no you do not really need to buy gems – you only need to go grind some dungeons for at least 1g per explorable run.
Do I really have to remind you (again) that this game was sold on the promise of “Anet doesn’t make grindy games…”?
We were sold on, “Anet doesn’t make grindy games…”.
Yes they do.
Well they try not to.
You’re kidding, right?
So people please instead of discussing who experienced the worst grind ever and where, and whether ANet is good or evil, come with some ideas and say how would you like it.
Up until a few days ago there was a reliable open world linen farm. Anet nerfed it into the ground, because …. who knows why.
This next to impossible materials grind is obviously “working as intended” and Anet doesn’t want our ideas.

The price run on silk is pretty much over. Unless they sold a few pieces of Damask when the prices were high, all the medium and heavy armor types have their first set of Ascended armor, and probably used up everything they had to get that set.
It’s only the light armor players who are still working on their first set, and by now I’m sure almost everyone has enough mats in storage to make that first set.
Silk is done. The amount available on the TP is creeping up again and scrap prices have stabilized and will probably start falling soon.
Linen on the other hand is still a problem because level 80’s don’t get much of that in salvaging.
The whole point is, this wasn’t supposed to be a grindy game at all. Yeah, we’ve all played them. It’s not hard to quote any grindy game out there.
We were sold on, “Anet doesn’t make grindy games…”.
Yes they do.
Yes, I knew what you meant, I was just turning it around to the parties I feel really are responsible.
Governments in Europe and Canada are somehow responsible for Anets business and
game design decisions? Wow, that’s quite a stretch.
They’ve done it before, they’ll do it again. They refuse to learn.
If you’re talking about European governments that love to impose so many regulations and so much bureaucracy that nobody wants to deal with doing anything in their countries, then you’re quite correct.
No, I’m talking about Anet kitten ing off a rather large percentage of their player base, by offering content that many cannot participate in. Small guilds and guild missions for instance. Casual players and Ascended crafting, and these sorts of sweepstakes.
They’ve done it before, and they’ll do it again. They refuse to learn.
(edited by Herr der Friedhoefe.2490)
… GW2 is an MMO- not an american-exclusive game and by doing US-only ‘sweepstakes’ Anet is generating a bitter taste for players in every region which cannot participate.
They’ve done it before, they’ll do it again. They refuse to learn.
Hence not working as intended, unless told otherwise.
Working as intended. Told ya!
Anything else we can help with?
Those “in the know”, aren’t saying.
in Iron marches , there is an event that if you let the NPC die and not revive them, infinite waves of flame legion spawn over and over ( amount scales with players)
Not any more. That farm was nerfed to the ground. I’m afraid the prices on crafting mats are “working as intended”.
And Vol is most probably right, Anet will step in at some point to normalize its price with respect to other scraps.
I actually don’t see them doing that. They’ve stated that there will be some changes in the market and that they wanted to bring some value to crafting, at least to those players who have that work.
The prices for mats will settle down over time, but I suspect it’s going to be a lot longer time than most people first thought.
I just pulled all of my sell offers on silk scraps. The EU daily reset sucked a LOT of silk out of the market. I can’t even imagine what’s going to happen at the NA reset time, and I’ll be in bed.
I can’t even imagine how all the insta grat people would react to camping one spot for 12 hours to try and get an item. Racing to a boss on server restart only to have another 50 person guild beat you there. Whole guilds wiping and working and hour to get their gear back because it was on their body where they died and bodies would rot.
There is a reason why people don’t want to play those games anymore.
The sad thing is there needs to be ways like this to farm linen and silk.
What I’d really suggest is a way to toggle the level appropriate loot to zone appropriate loot.Silk drops from light armor and heavy bag drops from lvl 70-80 zones.
If you dont have a lvl 80 character to farm silk, you dont need askended gear.
While silk is becoming a problem, linen scraps are worse.
Linen will run out before Silk does, I reckon. The Linen-pocalypse is imminent.
6s atm, Linen-pocalypse is upon us.
Linen still drops in game, so i doubt we will run out.
The one reliable farm just got nerfed to the ground.
I will say that most of my deaths in zerg fights are due to being immob for like 5-10 seconds.
My mesmer in a zerg fight loses once stability fails. Mesmers don’t bring much of that to fight. We rely on guardians mostly and there are usually plenty around, but when it fails (and eventually it does) I get pulled, pushed, feared out of the healing stack. Then I’m dead.
I’m seriously reconsidering my mesmer as a WvW character, at least for zerging. I love the character but the current meta is just not much for a mesmer except for some 1v1 roaming. That’s not much fun either when you run into a small party of hammer warriors.
Again, this market is so healthy, and please speculators and unreasonable people keep saying that it’s okay
Making a profit is healthy, but don’t blame the players for this mess.
And we barely knew you!
Auld lang syne…
There is currently a lump of about 80k silk scraps for sale at 2s per scrap. That’s not even enough scrap for 300 players to make their daily bolt of Damask.
I can kill the gate with my mesmer just fine thanks. There isn’t always a thief or warrior in the party, and I can run the rolling rocks on all my characters.
I’m not here to change up my skill bar just because someone is too lazy to run. If you want a zerker speed run, advertise it that way. I never join those groups.
Who think mesmers exist to carry them past the rolling rocks in CoF p1.
Learn to run it yourself. I’m not here to carry you.
