In my experience, my pet being killed while using lick wounds stops the channel about 70% of the time, the rest of the time my dead pet will rez me. If my pet does die and it stops ressing, lick wounds is usually off cool down at that point and I can start it again.
You really are just better off not fighting a ranger underwater. Anet has given up on water combat so don’t expect to see a change to this anytime soon.

I hate most of this. A revamp to shouts should include more team utility. These ideas would ruin certain builds in an attempt to make beast master useful while ignoring the core problems with pets themselves.
The only build I could think of that would be ruined is Nature Voice/Guard. But it isn’t even meta.
I disagree that shout should be team utility. Warrior and Guardian already fill this role. No need for Rangers to be a clone.
Wut? You think providing more team utility, one of the biggest things rangers need to break into the meta in pretty much every game mode, isn’t necessary? I just can’t take anything you have to say seriously then.

Too much range for that kind of damage.
This is the problem with showing that kind of edited video. People don’t understand the risk involved to pull off that damage.
Unedited videos of roaming and dueling are much better for everyone.

Your decision to remain ignorant is making you a worse player and you have no room to complain. This is the definition of learn to play.
I want learn…no challenge and only hiding is no learn
You clearly don’t though. I have tested out every build that has given me a hard time. There are things I will never play again like PU mes and condi thief because they are for garbage players but I did play them for about a week so I could learn the best way to fight them. This is what I’m telling you to do, learn them and then put them away until the meta shifts and a new build emerges that you need to learn how to counter.
You on the other hand are unwilling to learn not just 1 profession (thief) but an entire play style (conditions). At best you will become a mediocre player if you stick to a group that can carry you because you are choosing to remain ignorant. Educate yourself or quit complaining.

No, it doesn’t.

I’d support this as long as you can override another guilds claim if your guild has more buffs running.

I see you met the mesmer, thief engie and warrior conditionbuilds.
And i guess you found out that these builds are way more efficient in wvw then necro can ever be.
Good for you,
Just reroll.
All other necro’s did.
You’re kidding right? Necros pretty much hard counter condi builds, especially engi. It’s probably a good thing you rerolled.
LGN
i disagree i have seen several guilds putting together 10-20 man Elite teams to zerg hunt with mesmer tactics boon/condi control and builds built by the team leader to synchronize and its amazing to be a part of.
Ofc there are always some guilds who create their own groups and start hunting down zergs. The situation you describe however is clearly unbalancing the matchups. You’re talking about splitting up groups and still being able to take down enemy zerg, what would mean that your blob is way more powerful then the enemy’s. There is NOT A SINGLE REASON why PPK should encourage small scale combat. You might be confused due to the whitesword removal which does encourage more small scale combat. [/quote]
As someone that has spent about 99% of my time in wvw doing solo/small scale roaming I disagree with you. I really don’t care about the score, I roam looking for small scale fights because that is what I enjoy. Changing the scoring system isn’t going to suddenly make me enjoy zerging.
I haven’t seen any change in the amount of roamers due to this change so you are wrong about, “every single server blobbing even more.” That may be the case on your server but don’t exaggerate things to make a point.
LGN
The main problem i have with pets is how everyone thinks they are bad. There are ways to tweak your build to make them just a little bit more surviable. My pets are always up in pve, because i make sure to keep an eye on them, and i use them properly.
I do however wish there was just a little bit more control of them, take the canines for example, it would be nice to be able to use the knockdown when i wanted them to. But other than that, i don’t have any huge complaints.
Oh and the name thing…please..please look into that!
This would be nice but they also need to fix the pathing so pets aren’t running 50 feet away to run around a 2 inch ledge, and they need to give them a bigger cleave range so they can hit a moving target.
The cleave range should be easy to fix but since they are unwilling to fix the pathing issue maybe they should include a pet teleport in opening strikes so that your pet actually lends a hand.

Check out in this thread: Ingame GM’s, do they exist? for Michael Henninger’s information about how to report hackers and how they deal with it.
Nice joke bro. Theres 1 troll in our server who has goten id say up to 500+ reports in WvW for simply trolling the living crap out of our server and saying very ridiclously offensive things that should be banable in every MMORPG. But yeah, anet doesnt care.
People are just amazed how he is still not banned for what he talks about and how he trolls us.
I even recall someone video taping him and anet just didnt do nothing about the recording. Its just sad.
Did you even read the thread? If you are sending material and info to “exploits@arenanet.com”, you are doing it wrong. That’s the team that analyses the exploits and try to fix them, no actions are made besides that.
Use the report tool under botting or send a whisper to GM ProHeals with the necessary info. You may think it is a joke, but not just me but others can very well assure you that hackers are being dealt with, specially after the creation of cited thread.
I believe it is a joke. Lost my faith in anet long time ago.
He is giving you solid advice, maybe don’t be a kitten about it. The correct response is, ”I didn’t know that, thanks for the help. I can’t wait to give this a try.”

I hate PPK, yet again it rewards zerg behaviour.
Take an unskilled zerg and a smaller skilled group.
The zerg it taking a tower and the smaller group comes to defend.
The zerg slowly whittles down the smaller group, which is able to hang on whilst it’s dead players run back again.
Eventually, after several wipes, the smaller group manages to defeat and push back the zerg. With PPK the zerg is still rewarded more points than the smaller group as the smaller group suffered more deaths than the zerg. So even though a smaller group was able to defeat the zerg, the smaller group is not rewarded for their skill.
But as usual the real problem is that WvW is just not balanced! And Anet not spending resources on improving it is not helping; making silly little changes like PPK and removal on white swords will not fix anything.
That’s a bit backwards from my personal experience. My small group can easily kill way more numbers, especially when we have walls and siege on our side. The zerg will usually eventually get the cap by power ressing the dead and pvding the door down but we get a crap load of kills in the process, way more than what the zerg gets.
If it’s an enemy tower or keep and there isn’t a chance to hold it for the tick, we won’t even stick around to fight in lords. We hop out and pick off a couple of the stragglers and then run off.

When people are looking for a better roaming experience I suggest they check out the lower tiers but from what I’ve seen of sea players they tend to stick together.
I often suggest PvP for that particular experience.
Pvp is too bunkerish. Most people just build to dispute points, not the same as WvW roaming.
I saw a triple turret engineer on WvW other day… I just walked away. Might be contagious…
I ran into one a couple months ago while I was roaming as a longbow ranger. I laughed my kitten off as I killed him from a distance

That would also be an awesome experiment: get rid of downed state in WvW for a few weeks.

can’t counter the pew pew if you can’t see them coming. and if you can’t see them coming, it means they outplayed you. positioning is very important for rangers. if they pew pew from a bad position they can be killed very quickly.
and if they play hide and seek, getting on hard to climb spots, that’s their experience with pew pew rangers paying off.
i met both very good rangers and not so good rangers.
perhaps you had a bad day and met quite a lot of good rangers.
Yes, I know. I know their pew pew currently works like that, but let’s be honest, the damage is outrageous, specially for the cooldown and the distance.
When you can take out 85% of a heavy class HP every 10 seconds from 1200 units away, something’s not right. And what’s the so called counter for this? Roll when Point Blank Shot is coming or die?
Point Blank Shot + Rapid Fire + 1200 range = I don't want to use that word but
needs nerf.
My condi regen ranger can out heal a longbow ranger, same goes for most bunkers. All you have to do is dodge, block, evade or reflect part of their rapid fire. Also most of the points have places where you can LoS ranged attacks.
I enjoy playing longbow in unranked where people are either screwing around or just aren’t as good but I’ve quit using it in ranked.
LGN
It takes a lot more skill to play dagger/dagger in WvW than it currently does in pvp. People have more balanced stats and they aren’t forced to fight on a tiny point. If you are good you will have a lot of fun with it, just remember to slot fgs for when you need to run from a zerg or chase someone down.
I completely disagree with that statement. In wvw normally is 10 times easier to fight a player because the skill lvl of the average wvw pug is terrible compared with the average player you fight in ranked queue.
WvW also makes your celestial build stronger because you can get the extra 250 power from bloodlust + 100power/condi from stacks +250 vit +-40% condi duration. Also d/d ele is one of the most mobile classes if you slot fgs and lightning flash, that makes you outrun almost everyone.
Meh, ranked arena is more about bunkering down and holding the point while you wait for someone to rotate. I’ve found duelists in WvW to be way more dangerous because they build for 1v1’s.
Of course this depends heavily on the server and tier.
LGN

Stealth disruptor is for that type is situation, not to be used in a fight. It’s the same if you flip a keep or tower and you know a thief is using c&d on the walls and doors to stay in stealth. If you force him out he will run or die and you have won either way.
Don’t stack up on disruptors thinking they will be useful in a fight. The only time you might have a chance to use one is against a garbage condi thief.
For anything other than those situations you need to learn how to fight against a thief. I suggest finding one and dueling with him until you learn how. Or play a thief yourself to learn their weaknesses. In a 1v1 a thief shouldn’t give you more trouble than any other profession.
LGN
Yeah it’s funny because if you had been longbow and used rapid fire to burst him down he would have cried about it being broken because he was dumb enough to use stealth to try and counter a channeled skill.
I get more whispers from thieves than any other profession.
LGN
I’m guessing what you are talking about is a thief using c&d as soon as he came out of stealth so he wasn’t visible long enough to lock him down and kill him.
If that’s the case someone in your group should have just layed down a stealth trap and then y’all could have had a good laugh.

Problem is that thread was last posted in 2 months ago, so to post in it now would be a bit of a necro. In any case, I did read the history section:
Crossfire: Inflict bleeding from all directions. (Or increase duration/stacks of bleeding)
Seems fine, but would quickly get lamented as OP since with the fire rate of short bow it’d be easy to keep at least 10+ stacks of bleed on someone at all times. I’d rather keep the positional requirement and increase damage coefficient of the skill.
Concussion Shot: Daze 2 second if hit from front. Daze 3 seconds if hit from sides or behind.
I personally do not have an issue with concussion shot at the moment. If anything, keep the 1s daze and make it unblockable. For me, it’s primary purpose is an interrupt, which 1s will do just fine.
Poison Volley: Fire a posionous arrow that explodes on target and poison it for 8 seconds and adjacent enemies for 4 seconds. Blast finisher.
I agree with the poison field idea. Basically, make it like thief’s choking gas. Increase damage of it a bit also to keep with the dev’s vision for Rangers being ‘masters of poison’.
Quick Shot: Increase the range slightly (by ca 50). Increase swiftness to 5 seconds. Always gain swiftness.
Quick shot is fine IMO. Increase the range and you increase the liklehood of flying off cliffs. Always gain swiftness might be a bit much also as then people would just spam it for that reaason. I could see potentially adding a 3s chill effect though, so they move slower, you move faster. Cooldown is about the same as winter’s bite, so no OP cries.
Crippling Shot: Increase cripple to 5 seconds.
I’d rather replace the pet’s next three attacks inflict bleeding with something. Not sure what though.
So instead of posting on-topic in that thread, you choose to post off-topic in this thread instead?
How was he off topic?
Oh and about bumping old threads https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/wuv/A-Note-on-Necroposting-don-t-do-it/first#post4245260

They keep resetting every time you log out or swap weapons apparently. Not sure if anything else causes it too.
LGN
I can survive on point for days. If you see an engi coming towards the point run to intercept him. 90% of them are garbage fighters and will die or run before reaching the point but if they get on point you are in for a very annoying fight and will likely get decapped once your stability runs out.
LGN
I would love to bring back some of the GW1 skills and add them to the weapon
Skill 1. Crossfire is fine, maybe make it scale better with power.
Skill 2. Diseased Shot. Target is poisoned for X seconds and spreads the poison to anyone within 150 units, poison is reapplied for the full amount of time every time it spreads. (Good for breaking up zergs)
Skill 3. Trappers Shot. The evasive retreat fails way to often due to terrain problems, this skill should instead immobilize the target for 2-3 seconds and give the ranger 3 seconds of super speed.
Skill 4. Choking Gas. Target is struck with choking gas interrupting all skills within 300 units of target, choking gas lingers for 3 seconds.
Skill 5. Concussion shot. Maybe remove the need to be flanking for the stun to take effect and extend the daze.
These changes combined with some of the utilities rangers already possess would bring back the role of the interrupt ranger and give him a strong role in group play.

/stuck is still there, it just takes 30 seconds to take action.
“/stuck – logs your position, use it when you are stuck to report it” From the wiki
Are you saying it does something other than that because I’ve never seen it work. Do you have to type it and then stay perfectly still and not hit anything else for 30 seconds?
LGN
or they could just make /stuck kill you, or /kill
that would automatically give enemy team 5 pts :/
I’d rather give the enemy 5 points than sit in a wall and give them the win
LGN
Why hasn’t this command been added to the game yet? It’s not a big deal in pve since you can always waypoint but getting stuck in a wall in pvp is pretty much a guaranteed loss for your team.
This is even worse now since you get dishonored if you relog to get unstuck.

dont let others dictate why you shouldn’t use a ranger , because most of the time they don’t know how to work with a ranger , they say stack but that don’t work as a ranger as most of our skills buff us on the move (might from crits , might from pets(Rampage as one, weapon swaps) buffing up may effect other classes more in pre combat but ranger can live without it.
you can skirmish ahead , prepair targets with traps , Muddy terrains and Wolf fears to break up the intial first attacks , and still come out of it alive alone without help , those extra evades and blocks are long enough to get back to your group.
its all about Venturing out first then withdrawning back to the group , a ranger staying on a stack is a wasted ranger , get out there and drain people of there CC’s and Bursts by using that superior CC / evades.
all you have to do is say no im playing my ranger and keep trying while changing builds to match your guilds team play its totaly possible , its just that other people need to widen the box outside of the meta classes and the typical rotation of classes to skills combos.
perfect example<< don’t give up or give in , its a long road to being a ranger.
As that video shows that cc is very effective for small group fights but don’t expect that to work against an organized zerg running rotations to keep up stability, protection, retal, etc.
For group fighting a ranger needs to behave like a thief. Pick off squishy targets, try to separate people from the rest of the group, use your superior mobility to reset a fight when you need to. A good ranger will destroy most thieves in a 1v1, in big zergs just stick with the back line to defend against thieves trying to take out the ele’s and necro’s, while at the same time pressuring the enemy back line and commander with your superior range.
Hence why i said venture out and regroup nothing about front lines or zergs. the classes that make up a ball are just taking advantage of that naturaly high upkeep of boons just as you said. and ps it does work i do it all the time with my guild in wvw running with friends 15-20 ps farshiverpeaks not too shabby.
it will only work if your good enough, no ranger newbie should try it and should hide behind the meat shields because thats all i see a zerg as a big pile of meat that can’t be hurt vs the i can’t be caught easily only a thief or a mesmer will be able to pressure me so the rest im not too fussed about i have team mates for a reason.
Yeah I think we are arguing the same point. Basically a ranger has to be much smarter when fighting in a zerg. You have to always be fully aware of your positioning and maintain an avenue of escape.
It is ridiculously fun to use the main hand sword to bounce through the middle of a zerg and then use your leaps and evades to escape, but it isn’t something most people, can pull off until they have spent a ton of time on their ranger. The types of zergs you are running up against also make a huge difference as to what type of build you can pull off. Heck you can pull off a condi build against mot of the pug zergs but that doesn’t mean it is the most effective thing you can be doing.
LGN

You are going to kill yourself to retal if you face an organized group.
never once seen a group that spams aoe retal in eotm EB or BL a couple guardians who run it but no real team retals are running around.
I don’t expect it from an eotm uplevel blob but I’m curious what tier you are playing on because every organized zerg I’ve ever seen keeps retal up in WvW.
LGN
They need to implement better rewards for defending. Something like getting gold per tick depending on how much you have upgraded something.
What would also be nice but I don’t expect it would be the ability to transfer a percentage of the incoming reward per tick to another player if they take over the defense.

Problem #1: The class mechanic is quite poor because the pet doesn’t work in larger engagements (large meaning 5+) or if there’s a sup arrow cart raining down on you.
Problem #2: Almost all group utility the class provides is on the pet. So this ties in to problem #1 plus there are other issues due to poor pet AI and balance.
Problem #3: The class is strong as single target condi bunker playstyle, single target melee, and long range burst. Now while these are all great, most organized teams don’t have a use for these so you don’t see many Rangers in PvP, GvG, or guild WvW.
Problem #4: Mobility is difficult to explain. It’s not awful. But it’s certainly not at Warrior, Thief, or Ele levels. The problem with this is the role the Ranger needs to fill competes directly with these classes and these classes provide more damage/utility/survivability. Especially when you try and build around damage/utility/survivability. You’ll find you sacrifice more of the other categories than most classes need to sacrifice making the Ranger far more specialized and less attractive to groups.
Good thing #1: The class is very straight forward and easy to pick up for new players. The pet mechanic allows you to play either melee or ranged very easily. This is also a bad thing as you never learn to play melee or ranged ‘well’.
Good thing #2: Damage is competetive with other top tier classes in dungeons. While you’ll want to use Sword or Greatsword, there’s no excuse for a group to drop a Ranger. Especially since the utility the class provides is rather unique. Now getting a group to accept a second Ranger could be difficult.
Good thing #3: If you enjoy unorganized PvP/WvW you’ll probably have a blast. The class does very well following a zerg or playing in adhoc havoc groups. PvP is similar with unranked queue or just finding a quick pick-up group.
So that’s my opinion. Now that you have a thread where no 2 posts agree with one-another, I wish you the best of luck. At the very least you should give the class a shot in PvP at 20 (I think this is when it unlocks now?). It has a lot of quirks you’ll need to figure out on your own (the pet, the 1 handed sword, just what ranger mobility is like in reality) that no forum poster is going to agree on.
The only way a ele is faster than a ranger is if they drop fgs, even then it would be close. Once that is on cooldown a ranger is going to be faster.
and for those saying ranger is no good in a zerg, what you really mean is rangers aren’t as good in a front line position in the zerg. There are builds that would let you survive but they aren’t nearly as effective as warrior or guardian.
Since the longbow buff ranger has a roll as a sniper. Pick out the back line ele’s, necro’s and the enemy commander and take them out. A smart, well played ranger can be devastating to the enemy zerg.

Best map yet. I hope you have more deathmatch maps coming soon.

That is terrible news. You should add more maps like courtyard so that the entire game doesn’t revolve around who can bunker better.
Right, so on Courtyard it’s who can spam the most AoE damage and boons and long-cooldown elites. I’ll take conquest any day over the no-skill mess that is Courtyard.
I don’t understand why you aren’t just moving out of the aoe? There isn’t a point that you have to sit on. Your argument would make more sense if you were arguing against conquest.

Sounds fair. Thanks for your feedback.
I’m not sure how Barrage is that effective in 1vX’s seeing as you have to focus 1 person, not the group, else they all just heal the meagre damage while you could be doing X times more to one person by focusing. However, I do agree that LB seems to be a better choice. Sucks that I have to leave the 2sec stun.
TY again. :>
Barrage is for area denial. Drop it on a downed player, thief in shadow refuge, on yourself to get some breathing room. I’ve won a lot of fights by dropping healing spring, barrage, and fighting some people right in the center of it. You basically leave them with the choice of letting you heal up while you free fire on them or coming in to attack and eating all of that damage.

Courtyard, Spirit Watch, and Skyhammer will not be included in ranked arena once the beta ladder officially starts.
That is terrible news. You should add more maps like courtyard so that the entire game doesn’t revolve around who can bunker better. Or better yet, add another PvP game mode. A lot of people are bored of conquest and are moving on.

One of my rangers runs something close to this http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fNQQRAsf3YnEqQvgWxCusAVLGQQoWFAtrhktFcPE3wPfyKSEL-T1SAABK8AAMS9nAOBAAcEAETZwN6HsUJIZKt44gAMmSke2fgUALqsC-w
Mix and match the armor and trinkets until you get the stats you like but you get a nice burst from dropping burning, entangle, swapping to a/d for doom sigil to extend poison then the bleeds from crippling talon, split blade and keen edge trait and then hit them with winter’s bite for chill.
That should give them 19 stacks of bleeding, burning, poison, torment, immobilize and chill on the first rotation also the bird should be hitting them pretty hard at the same time and adding blind for 1 more cover condition.
So, three people posted builds. Congrats, yours made the most sense.
It seemed to be the best dmg/survivability combonation.
Krait >Running with water/dwayna runes. It seems like it already has a lot survivability and more in a group would just be overkill. I am not trying to be the group healer and it’s a big loss of condi dmg.My only real concern is a lack of constant run speed. There are just too many good utilities for the ranger. I guess I could always swap them in and out depending on my needs. —OR swap them pre-fight.
What would you swap instead of sigil of corruption. I don’t like stacking just so I can fight. What would be the next best bet?
Guard gives 13 swiftness on a 15 second cooldown, when running between camps I pop out the warhorn for a second to blast more swiftness and the bird also gives you swiftness when fighting. I usually end up with a couple minutes of swiftness built up.
As for sigil.. maybe bursting for flat increase in condi damage or doom for more poison uptime. Actually most of the on swap or on hit sigils would work there. I just found I get the stacks pretty quickly since they started giving 5 stacks per player kill.
Oh and sorry if I missed a couple whispers in game, I was in WvW and PvP the whole night and couldn’t always respond.

You can’t reliably expect SMC to flip every 60 seconds for 8 hours a day for 5 days a week.
Of course not. You have to wait for RI to wear off.
LGN
Of course it has to be done like this, considering even this method will take 2 YEARS to complete (assuming 40 hr per week effort, and 60 second caps). Any lesser effort will only dramatically increase the time the title/achievement will take to obtain! I mean, unless the intention is for these achievements to take 6, 8, 10 years. Is that the case?
Unless..wait…could something be wrong with how the titles/wvw achievements are designed? Is that a possibility?
The WvW achievements do have some unrealistic numbers.
However, they aren’t designed to be farmed like you’re wanting to do them either. They’re supposed to be something you work toward as you’re playing WvW. ANet did not design these types of achievments to be farmed.
And good luck getting Server 3 to not take SMC and then try to keep it. Or a zerg to come around and install a WP in SMC. Even if it is on Person 2’s server. If someone takes SMC at that point, that server loses the waypoint. I highly doubt ANYONE would just let someone take SMC, especially one with a waypoint.
Really? You highly doubt that people would take turns capping something for easy rewards? Have you ever seen eotm?
