I regularly use the sword in pvp, I am very familiar with how it works and I know how to use it effectively. I still think it is a broken weapon.

I personally found her post rather refreshing. I think if more dev’s dropped in to chat like she did this wouldn’t be a big deal. The problem is red posts are so rare (especially on the balance/WvW forums) that people latch on to what they say and twist things or search for hidden meanings.
It would be better to encourage more casual communication like this so that people become accustomed to it and don’t try to make it into something it’s not.

What would be the point of revealing them without the debuff? The problem with thief stealth is how spammable it is. If they would do away with initiative and give thief skills proper cool downs your idea might work but right now the debuff is necessary.
I meant no debuff on the 20s cooldown version. So basically you can use it as anti-stealth and/or use it as a reasonable pet buff. Right now it’s an unreasonable pet buff due to cooldown and the stealth thing is useless 99% of the time.
Yeah but then there is nothing stopping them from instantly restealthing. This is fine for mesmers, rangers and engi’s since they have cooldowns but thieves have too much access to stealth. Not having a debuff will make the skill completely useless against the only profession you really need it for.

You are on a guardian, just equip your loot stick and hop in the zerg. You’ll have your full stacks about 30 seconds into a fight.

I had a random thought last night. Sic ’em is quite weak against other players. What if the mechanics were this: Same pet buff, no stealth debuff for 20 seconds AND you can use it when someone is stealthed in the area to unstealth them, regular 40s cooldown.
Right now no one uses this skill because it’s ridiculously niche, but this would give it the BM buff on a reasonable CD, as well as the devs intended anti-trolling stealth mechanic.
No dev will ever read this, but I thought it was a neat idea.

Yup big boss nailed it. Technically they are putting out pve content but it is more of an advertisement for the gem store than anything else. Keep people grinding and stick something pretty in their face for them to buy.
If they were really focused on pve content they would increase the quality.

I disagree that siege disablers gave more open-field fights.
It’s either defenders just sit inside the tower/keep and throw disablers or a prolonged long range siege battle with occasional yolo/stealth disabler runs till its 10 v 50
This has been my experience. People just keep disabling siege until they can get counter siege to take yours down or until they outnumber you by at least 3 to 1 before they will engage you.
If you are in a zerg of your own you will have enough people to run bubble rotations or even just PvD once you are disabled. There were already enough reasons to blob, this shouldn’t have been added.

I wouldn’t even say PvE players are their main focus. Think about it, at this point in GW1’s life we already had Factions, Nightfall, and EotN. That is new professions, skills, dungeons, friggin continents to explore. What have we gotten so far in this game? A couple of new maps and a bunch of temporary grindfests.
I think the real target audience are casuals players that get hooked on garbage like farmville and candy crush.

my ranger and my thief only use 1 stun break, thats enough.maybe i should ask the guards if they where fine with such a venom.

It’s a 6 second reveal that requires a target on a 40 sec cooldown against the most mobile class in the game. If u can’t handle that you really need to up your game a bit.

The only time I bother slotting it is if I run into a group of thieves that keep stealthing each other. 1v1 I don’t need it to kill a thief and there are a lot more useful traits to bring along.

How far do you think you have to run? If it’s 1-2 people you just fight them. 3-4 you just have to make it back to the nearest camp you flipped and fight them there. Anything more than that you just wp, unless you recently flipped a tower that you can troll them from.
The maps are small, being a good marathon runner isn’t nearly as important as being a good sprinter.
I have never seen a Guard able to reach the camp before I kill him.
That is either a lie or you haven’t spent a lot of time roaming. It doesn’t happen often but I’ve had players of every profession escape me at one point or another. It’s not hard when all you have to do is make it out of combat for 1 second in order to wp.

I’ll counter with you should have a -33% speed debuff in stealth. If you are moving stealthily you would have to go slowly and quietly.
Any missed or blocked attack should reveal you.
Aoe attacks that knock down or immobilize should reveal you.
You should only be able to stealth out of combat. It doesn’t make sense that you can disappear in broad daylight right in front of the person you are fighting.

Why would I need to grasp at straws? So far none of your arguments have disproved anything I have said.
My original claim was that Medi Guards would never be able to out run a group. Which is true due to the lack of swiftness and relatively lengthy CDs of our mobility skills. Sure you can JI, LoF, and FB away but you are only delaying the inevitable. Thieves, Warriors, and Rangers will catch up to you without breaking a sweat. Once you are in combat, the rest of the their group will too.
Then I claimed that our teleports required targets far enough away to use which slowed reaction time which is also true when compared to skills that don’t require a target at all or just ground targeting cause you have that extra motion to do (Even if it is just a fraction of a second more).
Then I mentioned the lack of CC to prevent being kited which is also true when you look at the type, duration, and CD of our CC skills. With the exception of hammer our CC options are quite limited when you compare to other classes like Ele which has an abundance of chills/cripples or warrior which has a abundance of cripples on top of knock backs, knock downs, stuns and immobilize all on shorter CDs.
Can you surprise and totally wreck someone with a guard? yes Can it be used for roaming? yes (I do it all the time.) Is it as good as other professions for roaming? no Anybody who has experience roaming and playing Guard understands that. Apparently you don’t.

They need to increase the recharge on Rapid-Fire or lower the damage by 20%. That’s about it.
Oh really? Make it worse than what is was even before the reduced the casting time on it? That’s excellent, excellent balancing (not).
I’d rather take the old 4,5 second channel back then, but the skill is fine as it is now.Rangers were find before. It’s was already a good WvW and PvP class. No class should have such burst damage skills at such long range. Right now Rapid Fire feels like the crit nerf never happen for that class.
Elementalists meteors were nerfed from 10k to 4k on full berserkers builds (60% nerf: crit nerf and meteornado nerf + aoe circle so you can dodge out). Backstab was nerfed from 12k to 7k with the crit nerf, yet rangers press 1 key and do 15k damage from a 1500 range.It’s totally unneeded and unwanted, and another fail balance mistake to add to the list.
You might want to go test things out before throwing those numbers around

No I leave the bear at home. I find that most warriors are dumb enough to completely ignore my pet so I use a useful one like marsh drake to poison them and build might stacks for me.

Not an insult, a serious question. What is your experience playing as a guardian? How much time do you have on your guardian and how much of that was in pvp and WvW?

Sometimes for fun I run a moment of clarity build on my asuran ranger using fire and air sigils on the short bow. I bring along technobabble and the black moa to keep them dazed even longer. It’s a pretty mean build in a 1v1 and in a group fight you can completely shutdown a tough opponent for your team.
It isn’t great in a 1vX situation unless you are fighting some really bad players.

Honestly, im just tired of doing some hotjoins for fun, and running into 2-4 rangers on the same team all using LB #2 on me. One ability shouldn’t have such range, such dmg, and such a short cd.
I was all for buffing ranger… but not enabling everyone to hit LB #2 to win.

Try to remove all the crap like auto target and auto attack (ctrl + right mouse) and it will not lock you, sword is a very interesting weapon, with some practice it can be really enjoyable.

2 years of solo roaming with a necro and the one class I have zero worries about taking on one-on-one is rangers, everything else can be risky depending on player skill and build.. but rangers? free bag.
Mesmer is definitely my greatest bane and I usually avoid contact, everything else I can go toe-to-toe and hold my own.
I feel the same way about necros on my ranger; free bags. Both of us can’t be right!

Sure you can, there are a ton of terrible roamers and zerglings out there. Most of the people I run into are free bags in a 1v1.

Switch up professions and builds. I recently went roaming on a no stealth pistol/pistol, short bow thief for a laugh. I actually racked up a bunch of kills and had no problem escaping large groups.
Other times I will grab a few friends, siege up sw tower and start trebbing bay. If small groups come to defend we jump out and kill them. If zergs come to defend we hold them off with siege and spend the next few hours screwing with them.

the ranger’s sword is the least mobile weapon in the game, in the sense that all of the attacks of the sword, besides the 1st on the AA chain, are locked in an animation, regardless whether it performs a dodge or not, you cannot move (with WASD!) or either strafe (absolutely key on pvp), it’s all animation queues.
ctrl+right click swords auto attack. you are welcome.
And while im at it, turn off auto targeting aswell…

epidemic is great when flipping camps so it’s on the bar pretty regularly.
I switch between that and corrupt boon, which also works really well against a ranger because it turns their stability into an extra fear.
Like I said, I main a ranger. I’ve never had a necro use epidemic on my pet but I’ve done it plenty of times because I know when their condi’s are being cleansed and when they are being transfered to their pet.

If anyone is on SoS or YB and thinks necro is a good roaming class, I’d love to be proven wrong. I don’t duel for egos, but if someone can show me how it’s possible to beat a LB ranger with a necro I’m down.
Not that I’m saying LB ranger is OP, we have all sorts of other horrific matchups and weaknesses.
Even Rangers that aren’t running the ridiculous noob build aren’t guaranteed to win against a necro. SotF isn’t enough to keep up with necro condi’s on it’s own. If they are using Empathic bond or signet of renewal you just epidemic their pet. Once they blow their cleanses you just lay on some more condi’s and then lock them down with CC’s or plague form’s blind spam.
It really comes down to the area you are fighting. There are very few areas that you can’t LoS rangers with the terrain or all the kitten npc’s that are littered across the map.

But it’s a sitting duck to a LB ranger. They literally have no answer at all, assuming it’s not a guy who just hopped on to ranger after last patch; somewho who actually plays ranger. I don’t think I’ve ever lost to a necro 1v1, and that’s a ridiculous statement.
Necros also struggle mightily with movement speed.
Edit: Hmm, after some thought I would list necros quite high in small group roaming, but zero in solo roaming.
I haven’t lost to a longbow ranger on my necro. Of course I main ranger so I know how to fight them. But against the majority of the longbow rangers running around all you have to do is get into 1200 range, hit them with conditions, and laugh as they panic because they didn’t bring any condi removal.

I wouldn’t say op. Roaming isn’t like pvp where you have to fight them on point. They are strong but beatable as long as you dodge their bursts. 9 out of 10 times they are free bags when I’m on my necro.

Honestly I find optimized group play boring as hell. In fact you kill thing so fast that most dungeon mechanic don’t come in to play. Stealth and porting can make a run faster but I feel it lets new and old player by pass skill development.
I’d agree with that if playing in a pug group with whatever random builds actually made the dungeons less boring. The problem is the brain dead AI and massive health pools means PvE will remain boring. Running random builds just means you are bored for a longer amount of time.

I hate it. I’ve adjusted to using it for certain builds but I will never enjoy it. I keep hoping that 1 day they will remove the leaps from the auto change and instead give the #2 skill on sword 2 forward leaps instead of hornet’s sting being a backwards leap. Maybe extend the time available to activate monarchs leap as well.
This would still make the sword “sticky” but would greatly improve the fluidity of combat. It would also improve the mobility of the weapon since you you wouldn’t have to rely on the buggy about face function.

I am confused about this petless option stuff… In what situation does the pet cause a problem? Running dungeons with beginners who don’t know how the game works? The pet only “gets in the way” when it is told to do something silly. The petless option is to equip a bird and put it on passive. Problem solved.
Ever fight an offhand dagger thief? Or a necro that has the intelligence to use epidemic on your pet since most of our “condition removal” is really just transferring the condi’s to our pet? The pet becomes a huge liability in quite a number of situations.
I would much rather the pets be fixed but if they are too lazy to do that then there should be a stow option with some kind of boost.

Why exactly? Right now there isn’t a good spot to do GvG. If anet ever does implement some different pvp modes (which I fully support) it will just pull more people out of WvW.
PPT is a joke because the population and coverage is so far out of balance.So if the game mode is broken to the point where playing for PPT doesn’t make sense, why not give people a spot to WvW? There is a very good chance a lot of those people will stick around to help the server when they are done with their match.

There are tons of skills that have similar problems. Flame thrower has a 10 hit AoE auto attack. Retal can be brutal.
The issue is with retaliation, it should be a % of damage done dealt back with an upper limit, but I don’t think anet will ever change the mechanic of this boon.
The skill(s) were done right in gw1.
that would improve damage back, and retaliation was nerfed now its like 240-280 damage, big AOE hits needed theyr counterplay if not it would be more free bags than already is.
Big AoE hits already have counterplay. It’s people standing on top of each other with the crappy AoE limit. AoE skills like barrage and flamethrower end up doing more damage to the person casting because of it.

Honestly depends on the mood I’m in. The only 2 that have stolen me away from ranger for an extended amount of time are my necro and engi. Both are completely different playstyles from the ranger but they are useful to have if I my group is lacking on AoE damage.
