For the amount of insane sustain they have, their damage needs nerfed. It needs to go one way or the other. They’re basically bunkers with damage. My friends are constantly talking about how they break 700k in games when I’m with them, all while holding points 1v2 and pretty much never dying.
It’s easy to do a lot of damage when you can’t kill anyone.
Holding 1v2 versus bad, is easy with Druids, Ele, Revenant, Reaper, Warrior, Mesmer… named it. This is skill versus skills issues.
Scrapper is less bunker than Tempest or Bunker Guard, so they do more sustain damage than the cleric bunker of the game.
Damage from Scrapper is less bursty and lower than other roamer marauder.
Give your MMR a chance to goes out of decay and fly again… (or not!)
He is known at the higher tiers and has played in AG multiple times (if I remember correctly). He is not an amber.

Just wanna express my disappointment with the Matchmaking since as you can see in the picture even when playing my worst class on non meta build with 4 thieves on my team my games mostly super easy where I just afk most the time.

Probably you have a decayed MMR. You need to play more.

If you want more challenge, duo or trio q with high mmr players with the same classes, so you stack even more MMR.

All classes and builds got counter.
Scrapper melt in 1v2 if they don’t juke properly. And Juking is hard versus 2 players that know what they are doing.
Scrapper got nerf a lot since HoT, while other spec where not nerf at all.
Scrapper is tanky by nature but will never ever do the same damage than REV or Thief.
Scrapper is bruisers, while REV or Thief are roamer DPS.
I can claim that REV need some sustain shave, so they fit the role of roamer squishy DPS. I find it really hard to “escaped” a revenant mobility and their burst is higher than the sustain from bruisers spec.
But guess what… it’s probably right to have REV > bruisers (scrappers) because they are bad versus condies.
Rock, paper and scissors is fine actually. It was bad in October 2015.
I would probably want more VIABLE spec into META than nerfing META spec to have less viable build.
If they nerf something VIABLE, they should nerf them ALL. This would open up build diversity.
But nerf… usually bring a lot of turn over, where your player base start playing something else.
Anyway, my 2 cents.
Bruisers and Support are fine, what is not is the CONDI burst from mesmer, warrior and reaper… and of course, those same condi users will CRY a lot to nerf Tempest and Scrapper, the only viable AOE cleanses classes on META actually.

First, Courtyard was bad map because the respawn of players seems not a good mechanics.
It should end when all players of a team die. And to make sure it’s not a luck/RNG factor you do 3 of 5 games.
If your team win, you progress the queue, meaning you will face a team that did win his previous 3 of 5 best matches…
And so on.

Guild wars 2 spvp is best played with players that you can rely on and have fun time with.
I’ve played less than 10 games since mid season 2… I just got so tired of fighting the same class, using the same the same build, using the same skill rotation, with no deviation, the only difference being nameplates…
I want fun gameplay, not gameplay where I can count in my head “1, 2, 3, dodge… 1, 2, 3, burst… 1, 2 ,3…”
That’s not fun, it’s not competitive, I won’t come back to pvp until there are MANY viable builds again… I’ll just stick to PvE, WvW, and trade post wars…

Chaith play a druid build that seems less bunky but more damaging than meta build… Oh ho! Yeah hundred of great players still play Guild Wars 2 with their own build, homebrew and minor changes to WINS into unranked.
But… well, be sure it’s good before doing that… I hate losing, unranked is not for casual anymore. It’s Ranked queue for bad casual players right there.
So, it’s time to work on your unranked MMR and get to play with the real spvp players out there.

When you say “stats,” are you referring to stuff like Power and Vitality? Or K/D ratio and Distance traveled?
All our beloved stats at the end of the fights should get archived, so you can look at them. Put an option to share those stats around.
Make a list of the best stats per game, per week, per month.
Make a list of the best stats ever.
Something that help players to compare themselves and let other “viewer” compare the stats of their favorite players with their own performance.

Did soloq yesterday and I played with Chaith, Morpheus, Lord Hand Hammer and some other random decent players. It’s never boring with good players sharing the matches.

- The player on the account with 10,000 matches hits a point where he is 50/50 for the season and the system goes in to the rhythm to attempt to keep him there but since the algorithm identifies 10,000 matches as some increased ability to carry, it will place him with weaker teammates and expect him to carry, even though the match is supposed to be fairly balanced. Where as the account with 2,000 matches played, will have the algorithm wait to find teammates who are better, even though both of these players are roughly the same actual skill level. -> matches played is not relative to skill level and should not be considered as MMR increase within the algorithm Arena net needs to remove this. As of now, total matches played is a huge factor in your team placement. It’s in the patch notes.
Perhaps time played and skill is not relevant. But please, if you fix my account 10k games… make sure I am not paired with 100 or less games player.
I am all for placing veterans together to play versus each other. So, I don’t care having big lost streak because of that.
I don’t understand why anet doesn’t do full mmr resets between seasons.
It takes more than 2 months to get stabilized.
Look for volatility.
The point of unranked is to test new builds and strategies, hone your skills in a less stressful environment. Yeah I guess you get players not taking it seriously but then do we expect the games to be competitive? People who want competition can always open a private room and go at it with friends or guilds.
+1^ Anyone who expects to get consistently good games in unranked is deluding themselves. I go to Unranked to test new classes/new builds. I’m without a doubt playing something that im not familiar with and as such will not be playing my best.
I “expect” a good percentage of my team mates will be doing the same and so do not really care whether i win or lose, so long as im learning from the match which was my intention all along.

Matches into Unranked at proper MMR are way better than Legendary at division entry.
Even if people take it less seriously, are trying new things or don’t play meta… they usually know how to rotate, if they should do that 1v1 or not and be where they are need.
Rotations is not really hard to understand, but many people simply don’t know what it means.
It’s way easier to find your weak link in unranked (to wins matches) than to carry 4 bads into ranked queue.

Usually when a class is OP, people play them.
We are going back to Season 1 match-making and the smurfing will be possible but the “higher” players will get no pips.
I would rather have a rollback to 2014 Leaderboard, but… well.. season 1 MM didn’t consider pip-range nor divisions to put team of equals skills together.
It was so good, many “top players” did QQ because they had a hard time going on Legendary, when bad players where already there.
I guess, the “pips” should be trash and divisions reflected the MMR directly. So, top players playing together with a 50% win ratio would still be top players.
You need to work out your MMR to have better matches.
How do you work it out? Somehow I ended up with a really high MMR but I’m not sure how I managed to do that. It’s nice to have, but it would also be nice to know how I achieved it since all I did was play the game.

Working his MMR means you play the best class/role/build you can.
Each game you go for winning. If you lost, you should learn why.
Then go back again, winning.
Playing 5 games a week, is not enough. At least, you need to have more wins versus good guyz and no lose versus bad guyz to have a MMR progression.
It’s easier if you trio queue with people you know can do the work. The Trio help because you have one for home, the other for mid and the third for roamer to +1 fights.
A good trick to wins more, is to adapt to your comp and enemy comp. To do this, you need to have a build design versus condies ready for when it’s need, a roamer great mobility build and a bunker support build.
No support on your team, say in team chat that you are switching to Tempest.
No thief, revenant, mesmer for roaming? Say to your team you switch to revenant.
The faster way to work your MMR, is to play with high MMR players and win games.

This game needs a teamladder for premades only. The whole game is completly focused on teamplay, but all we have is a stupid random arena to farm even more stupid rewards. Give us a reason to form teams, monthly tournaments for example where you can qualify for with the teamladder. Basically the gw1 system.
For me, Ranked queue should be only Team-based, while unranked is free for all.
1- Grinding wins < winning versus the best. Skill based RANK is better than Grind based One.
2- New account should have a lower MMR to not “put” stress on average players. Many new account are so bad… it bring average player into the “bad” camp. New account from veteran players would be a better challenge. Actually, it’s easier to start a new box for a veteran. Another marketing ploy to sell more boxes?
3- Season are too short, we have a grinds to get to our place… then everybody stop playing. League should not have an “end”. The Legendary title should not be given at the entry of the division but at the end of it.
4- Pips range is not enough to find 10 people of equals skills to play together.
5- Guild Wars 2: Arena need to be downloadable under 1 or 2 gig format. With a real F2P progressions, so people can have at least 1 or 2 elite spec after playing a lot. At least, we will have a model to have more pvp players joining us. Many moba or pvp website would do sPvP review for our game.
6- People don’t want classes stacking, I would say I don’t want class stacking with same amulet. It’s fine to have a bunker guard and a DH marauder “comp” wise. Or hosting a condi engi with a scrapper pally.
7- The Extra pips for winning versus better team or the less pips removed if you lost at 400+ was great “something” that help to have competitive games. People tried until the end, now people goes AFK after first team wipe.
8- Reputation system need to get there for AFK, grievers, trash talkers and other stuff.
9- 1 MMR reset per year could help people that got their account MMR trash. Each 2 month would be too much work to get match to your skill level when MMR stabilize.
10- Put more Rewards at the Vendor, so people have incentives to do some more rank matches after their “wings”. The best rewards are the one used by everyone.
11- Add more titles to the spvp games with progressions. So serious AA players would come to get some.
Unranked MMR is different from Ranked.
You need to work out your MMR to have better matches.
Helseth going in unranked after many months of MMR decay got teams of his mmr level… He just need to play a couple more game, but yeah. Helseth don’t know jack about how MMR affect your Matches.
You know, in the summer hype of 2015, I thought that Ranked Queue will only be for team but they did a top 10 guild challenger stuff that no know look or see.
This would had really, really make something for the competitive scene.
So, my questions:
1-Am I doomed to forever be on the “low mmr team” now?
2-When I was winning and MMR was rising, why was I “punished” instead of getting teammates of similar skill, if that’s what is supposedly happening currently?
3-I have noticed, when I take a few days off from pvp, my first night back I always win more than I lose, almost like my MMR improved by taking 48+ hrs off!?!?!?
4-Or, am I forever going to hover around a 50% win rate over the course of a season, no matter how much I play or improve? It’s honestly tempting to buy a new account, just to have a “fresh” MMR, but I refuse to do that.
1- No, bring your friends that have a better MMR and play with them.
2- There is always someone with better MMR than you, unless you play with a pro team.
3- There is a decay into MMR rating. Some negative hits will decay has the positive hit over your real MMR. There is MMR and there is Volatibility. So, for bad nights, the system help you come back to where you were before it.
4- Probably, to have high winstreak you need to be on top of the MMR curve. Don’t buy a new account, just create a F2P vanilla build. Many will let you have winstreak from amber to ruby. From there, your MMR should be on top of the curve for your divisions and bring you into the Legendary in approx 80 matches.
I was on a 22 loss streak on my alt while being on a 12 win streak on my main. What does this tell me? Right, my skill is based on which account I log into.
I could live with a win/loss/win/loss series, but getting into matches where at least one player goes afk at the start or diamond matches with a 3 people group on my side which has 1 diamond, 1 sapphire and 1 emerald makes me want to quit this game.
Welcome in Unranked, where the Queue is FAST and is able to find 9 other players like you that can make fun and competitive matches.

Players “staying where they belong” isn’t the issue.
To be honest, I don’t care a whit what division anyone is in. With deliberately unfair matchmaking, division difference is meaningless. I don’t have any real respect for “Legendary” players as such.
I’d be happy as a clam to be an a lower division and getting fun matches, if the shiny didn’t require advancing in divisions.
The issue is that the shiny ( the backpack ) requires advancing through divisions. That reward was intended to attract players to PvP.
Because ANET has made it difficult or impossible to advance, the reward is denied to the very players it was intended to attract. It will alienate them instead.
At the same time, the system isn’t truly competitive either. It more or less failed on all counts.
Yeah… the worse is with your experiences now, on a new account you would probably be Legendary by now.

At least in the old ranked system in 2013-2014, even with a 50% win rate or so, you could raise your RANK up.
Btw: I created a f2p account just to check if the mmr hell was true. I reached diamond very easily playing in very casual way (just completing daily).
This is the sign of this bad Match-Making system.
It help new players to climb with unfair team, while veterans players that got hit or miss because of various parameters, prefer to create new account than playing their main one.

Buy new account for Match-Making manipulations that don’t serve your team much, but serve your wins a lot.
Of course, bad new players that don’t know how to play our game, simply wrekt mmr of average veterans players when they enter with their “average MMR for new players”.
Unranked queue is way better than that, when you had passed that “average MMR”… no pip-range for me to wait 15 + minutes a Queue POP.

I don’t know, I beat full team with soloq team once or twice a night over 10 games. It’s not really an issue.
On the great premade, there is about 10 or so team in NA. All other can be beat solo, or in duo or trio… whatever it takes.
By the way, even if they are queuing 5 togethers… it doesn’t mean they are on TS, it doesn’t mean they play a lot together or they know each other, or they stacked a full meta team.
Many 3-4-5 guyz are simply pugging around. Some of them can be farmed and exploit to let you win the match.
You just need to find their weakest link and your’s to carry the matches for both.
But if you play Ranked queue, I hear your pain. That pip-range make two team that can’t compete together.
Unranked Match-Making is great. Work your MMR a bit, till ranked queue will get dead.
You will see by yourself.
Ranked queue is trash and simply “give more chances” to some and “less chances” to others. Nothing about great closed matches with competitives/competent players in all “slot” of your or other team.
Why? All competent players stop playing ranked queue a while ago. Ranked is not serious pvp or for competing… it’s another carrot to grind for Pver.
Since I hate Match-Making and the “Ranks” into Ranked queue, I did boycott the ranked queue this season.
Unranked match-making is way better. PVP season, relax… my unranked queue is always fast, always with competent players and if not, I make the weakest link of my random pug team, the BEST.

MMR volatibility over 2 months would bring many problems.

Just ask yourself this devs, what do exactly condi bunkers sacrifice to reach that level of dmg?
As a power spec if I want to have enough dmg to down anything before getting killed myself..I need to forsake any kind of toughness, healing power and passive defense traits.
By contrast condi bunkers can slot all defensive options and still deal more dmg than you in the end, how that makes any sense?
On top of that a condi bunker hold the clear advantage in a 1vs1 situations, at this point my suggestion would be to remove wander amulet

The tradeoff of Wanderer or Rabid is HP.
Since they don’t bring HP, low HP class have problem to use that versus other condi users.
The counter to toughness stats, is CONDIES.
I understand that you like POWER build damage and Thougness is a ROCK to your SCISSOR, but… just find PAPER (carrion like stats) to eat them alive.
Btw, wanderer don’t work with low HP classes (guard, thief, ele) and will work better with the high HP one (war, necro).

There are a lot of builds there that would disintegrate the meta and it is not even counting the condi cancer all through the fine tuning of stats….it could work since food and other op runes/sigils/ascended equipment wouldn’t exist in pvp so go figure

The only problem with free stat distribution is that it dumpsters the very fine balance among the top builds that exists currently.
Free stat distribution in PvP right now will look like:
Condi Warrior, Mesmer, Necro, these professions getting a huge boost, running a condition build with condition duration, condition damage, toughness, and vitality. Basically usher in the condipocalypse if they weren’t viable enough.
Balance is centered around having optimal power amulets (Marauder, Paladin) but artificially weakened condition builds due to non-optimal condition build amulets.
If ArenaNet worked some balance-split magic to compensate for stat efficiency power creep it’d be ok..

It’s all about diminishing return, soft cap, hard cap of stats and what those stats achieves.
I agree with you that a free stats system right now, would not be good. But, having free stats and free traits allocation (like before) would open a lot more build diversities.
At first, it would be like HoT released, some too OP build that need to get town down. This is where diminshing returns, soft cap and stuff matters.
But… this is a so strong change, that it would need to be adressed on a TEST SERVER for MONTHs, open up to PVP players.
From there… dd ele would come back, celestial engi would come back but… a lot of other build we didn’t see before could be made to counter those builds.
It would be “organically” the players to find counter to META and not ANET to NERF thing to change META.
A good game is a game where META is balanced by players for players with the Choices they made.
With that system, a MAIN engi or a MAIN warrior would be a much better “take” than a multiclasser following cookie cutter build easy to find because you don’t have tons of valid options.
I think a big problem is the amount of feeders that now come into Ranked pvp after hitting PvP Rank 20 just to troll players trying to actually win. My solution to this problem would be to implement a system where players can report other players that just are feeding the enemy team kills and points.
The easiest fix to this problem, is to reduce MMR of new players into rank. So, if you gave them avg MMR, average players will got MMR wrecked by bad plays.
New account or new players should start around the 20% to 25% MMR chain. (so they have a chance to not going into MMR hell under 10% but will not wreck good players that are 50%+).
I agree with you, new account or players are problematic when they join a team with good players into it while the other team is only made by good players.
This is one factor of the loopside matches we get with the “pip range” since fix to smurfing, that I called right before season 2 but no-one was interested to hear about.

The main overarching problem is excessive defense such that most builds are implicitly pushed out due to their inferiority to other builds that have superior survivability
The 2 main problems of this consists of:
1.) Excessive Toughness
2.) Excessive Blocking (skills that block unlimited attacks from all sides for a duration)The Solution:
1.) Remove or Change all Amulets so that None Exist with Toughness anymore.
(Toughness can only be acquired via Runes or Traits)2.) All blocks must be nerfed in at least 1 of the following 2 ways:
-Either the Block only blocks from the front like shield of courage but may block an unlimited amount of attacks for its duration.
-Or the Block is allowed to block from all sides but similar to Shield of Wrath only blocks X amount of attacks.
Oh kitttennn… Scissor want to Delete ROCK.

Giving reward only to Legendary players is bad.
Rewards should not be tied to skill. Doing so, give us the mess we have actually.
I better get MEDALS to show my Skills than skin that can get grind at the end of the grinding divisions process.
Skill should be rewards with STATS.
Skin should be rewards with GRIND.
Everybody should be able to GRIND them.
Never forget that your mid-tier hardcore player base that are not TOP 100 of your player base, are the majority of your customers queuing in your game.

SPVP with full Gw2 stats system would be a blast to play. Because minor changes would have minor impact on play. This would made a lot of differents things going on all around.

But since Ranked queue is junk (see you are a legendary who prefer to unrank), then all competitive trash talkers goes where it’s less junk. Into unranked.
Working your MMR will take a while, but it’s worth it. I never see toxic kitten in unranked at mid tier and higher.
Buff one or two other build that AOE cleanses.
So, power roamer could kill those condi users.
