Totally agree. While 30-40% was user error and the rest was ANets mess up. I keep seeing responses popping up everywhere saying “We can’t reward achievements at this time.” How about just restarting the kitten event instead of making excuses? So much easier.

As I stated in a previous reply, sometimes changing altering existing game features is not just as simple as clicking a button and “restarting”. On a side note referring to the event as a “kittening” event seem a bit counterintuitive. If it is indeed a “kittening event” why so much concern for something you feel needs to be labeled with foul language. It seems if you really want to participate in the event then you would say something like, “Please restart this interesting event.” or even something as simple as, “I would appreciate it if your restarted the event.”

I’m sorry for your misfortune and understand your frustration but I doubt that abrasive language is going to result to a positive response to your concerns from Anet.

I have not seen one of those dice since about 1987 or so. I probably still have a few tucked away in some box in storage. Reminds me of the days when all the content was in your head and if you think it’s bad now trying playing with a really bad, sometimes drunk dungeon master.

How much time do you need to lvl max?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: JustTrogdor.7892

It depends on how much time you spend in game I suppose and what approach you take. I’ve been playing for 3 months and due to time constraints and my play style I’m at 19% completion.

My suggestion is play the way you like to have fun without worrying about leveling. The titles under your characters name as well as leveling will usually come along through the corse of play. Map completion is a great goal but in my opinion is one that should occur somewhat naturally as you explore and take in the content of the game.

Of course if your play style is to reach level cap quickly, which is fair if that is your goal, you can expedite it by maxing crafting if you have the gold for the mats. But since your goal is map completion you should level rather fast as well because you get good xp for exploring.

Thanks for the thoughtful reply, anyway. My main hope is that ArenaNet doesn’t do this kind of thing in future events – one of the reasons I came to GW2 was because I’m an adult gamer who doesn’t want to have to schedule my life around gaming (as was the case in WoW), and while some cosmetic helm is obvious “optional content”, I’m a collector in MMOs and it’s not nice to miss out on things because ArenaNet is enforcing totally artificial exclusivity by doing temporary events within temporary events.

I’m right there with you. I’m am also a very busy adult (some say old ) player that plays very casually and I was fortunate enough that I could incorporate the event into my limited playing time. I happened to be involved in RP with my guild at the time so it worked out for me and also made the event fun. Like you there are many items I like to collect aside from their functionality. So far I have the new horn, broomstick, several minis (even though I rarely use them because they move so slow), the new sickle (I missed out on the molten pick. I would have liked to have been able to have the whole set when the axe comes out), and the three skins that were on the store.

I agree that they could have made the fireworks event a bit longer. I think their reasoning was that it was over a weekend, which I agree, still excludes many people. I’m glad you didn’t see my message as condescending because I truly was not trying to be. By the way did you get the holo mini drop? The RNG spirits decided I needed abou 20 of them while they also decided I didn’t want a claim ticket Anyway if you did not as a fellow collector I’d be happy to send you one in game mail.

I understand your frustration but I think making exceptions like this would start a slippery slope of people asking for extensions or exceptions. Also where would you draw the line? Would people that missed the entire event have a reason to ask for a do over so they could get the helmets as well? I imagine there are many players that would have liked to partake in the entire event but due to real world obligations of their own have to miss it.

Then you have to consider the players that did go out of their way to make the event, especially the ones that had to keep trying because of overflow. Some might be a bit peeved that they went to the effort, maybe out of their way, and now suddenly that effort/inconvenience seems less significant.

Also you have to keep in mind long term ramifications if issues like this were responded to. I can see the gem store as an example. A player misses out on an item or an item that is on sale because of real world obligations. In that case they may express frustration and feel like the items should be given to them at the discount or brought back for them to have a chance to purchase. This has affected me as I have missed out on a few items I would have liked to have had the chance to buy.

You also have to look at it from a programing point of view. Perhaps it isn’t as easy to program back in the show with the hat rewards as some may think. When I see posts on other topics stating stuff like, “It wouldn’t be a big deal if they just did this” I feel that some don’t understand that unlike a desk top things like this are not just point and click. This takes resources and time from staff that could be working on bugs and other issues.

I’m saying this sincerely, if the helmets were not account bound I would mail mine to you. While it was nice that I received them I don’t find them particularly appealing and seeing most everyone wearing them right now kind of takes away novelty of the item to me.

By now pretty much everyone has stated they don’t care for the RNG crates in the gem store. I tend to agree that they are not a very good item unless you like to take a chance, a big one at that, from time to time. It would indeed be nice if they posted the odds.

Since most people do not buy crates to get a few shells or some cakes I imagine aside from the very rare lucky person, there is some degree of disappointment whether anticipated or not. I have developed an idea to make this less of an issue. I am attaching concept art as part of the explanation so please hold back comments until reading the full explanation and viewing the lovely artwork my team has worked hard to develop.

Instead of crates dropping RNG loot the idea is they drop RNG armor skins. However, and this is a big one, you will not know what the skin is until applying it and at that point it will be account and soul bound on use. This method provides the individual attempting acquire a skin with an actual skin and a highly subjective factor as to its level of ‘coolness’. Additionally each piece is randomly generated within the set. What that means is you might get a chest piece from one set mixed with leggings from another and so on.

I feel the gem cost to buy the RNG armor should increase to reflect the fact that there would indeed be a guaranteed skin whether desired or not. Maybe 1000 gems or so. Also for all those that prefer not to buy gems or don’t have the means to I believe these skins should drop from mobs and chests, just at a much lower chance than the gem store ones. I have posted what I believe should be the odds for each set.

My team and I have worked hard to develop the concept art for these skins. When discussing the art work please keep in mind that there is some minor polishing to be done before the artwork is complete. Also please try to keep discussion civil and as the standard RNG chest debate has been around the block a few times maybe this will inspire some refreshing conversation and ideas.

It’s one of those things that a game developer can never win. Your suggestion is good but people would still be complaining that it just wastes more time. This event I think was made to help the more casual players/new players do achievements. I’m a good example of this. This is the first update (I’ve only been playing a little over 3 months) that I have been able to accomplish most of the tasks as all my alts are relatively low level and I’m only 19% map completion. I still had little idea of what general area I needed to go to for some tasks but figured it out from exploring until I saw the star icon.

While I don’t want to appear as I am judging play style as I feel every one should play the way they want, many players want to complete every achievement as fast as possible. See holograms and effigies. There were several responses the first day the holos appeared where people said they were camping them to get it done as fast as possible despite having an extended time period to get the achievement done. The same feedback occurred with the effigies and some were unhappy with the 10 second cool down it took to light them.

I’m sure there are many players in the middle that would prefer your suggested approach. I think making a mixture of both for events would be a good way to balance them. There are some achievements I felt were a bit too grindy like the pinatas. I think some of the reasoning behind this particular achievement was to have newer players explore the cities and maybe for others to have a look around for the first time in a while as well. Unfortunately the number of pinatas required to complete it was rather high. I just didn’t do it. I think I smashed 1 that I just saw in passing.

A buff is a benefit that increases the stats of an item or that of a player. For example someone can get a speed buff to increase their movement speed or magic find buff to increase the odds of finding better items from loot.

A nerf is usually when game developers decrease the stats or effectiveness of a certain skill or trait. This is also applied to areas that are popular for farming when developers have hit it with worse drops or diminishing returns.

For example with the rumors of the next update you will probably see the term nerf many many time.

Hope that helps.

Staff is good in PvE if you end up fighting the champions that usually draw several other players to the fight. With light armor I have found it safer to stand at a distance for the fight and use some of the skills that CC as well as do more damage while the others are on cool down, basically fire attunement 1 in my case. I generally use caution in these situations and don’t use meteor shower if there are passive mobs in the area because all this will do is add fuel to the fire, no pun intended. You can swap to water to provide a few heals to others in the fight. Earth for shock wave and to bleed immobilize and unsteady ground to cripple.

So in my opinion the staff is more of a AOE support and CC weapon that works best in groups. I’ve done a lot of solo PvE with a staff as well but that requires a little more speed with the keys and attention related to swapping attunements so you can CC first and then in my case swap to fire for direct damage.

After enough is thrown on them, they get a debuff that doesn’t allow them to
play their instrument for some time.

That sounds like a funny idea and it would be fun. The problem is then people would be griefing the good players by throwing food just because they could. It would be fun though. I have the horn and practice in isolated areas but I’m not very good at it so I’d be on permanent cool down.

Hello,

Thank you for fixing the bug that would allow us to continue buying Gems. It was refreshing to have a problem, out of several, responded to and fixed.

As it seems that we have your attention as a result of this bug, what can we expect as to the future of the Mac client? While we do appreciate being able to play GW2 on our Mac computers many customers are interested in other information related to the client.

Personally I would just like to know if it is still a work in progress, if development has been posponed or if the project has been closed.

Since you mention the Mac Beta Client is available until you release the final version I am interested to know what progress is being made toward the final version.

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/announcing-guild-wars-2-for-mac-beta/

understand that your overall experience will be better when we release the final version.

Also I am interested if we can expect further support on these forums. Ashley (Technical Support) has been nice to us and let us know that she has read our concerns. We were also pleased that Regina Buenaobra (North American Community Team Lead) took the time to let us know the Gem bug was being looked at and to let us know that it was fixed.

Your Mac FAQ directs customers using the Mac client that a tech support forum exists, in fact the one I’m posting in. So I think it would benefit our little community to know when we can expect more responses from staff related to the Mac client or if there will not be any.

That is all I have for now but I think others here might like other types of information. Personally I do not expect to receive a novel but if you would take the time to read this and touch on a few of my concerns I would appreciate it.

tl;dr
Your Mac customers would probably be somewhat content with one simple statement as to the status of the Mac client and expected support.

Thank you.

Thread Title Edit: I forgot that using a thread title in an attempt to draw attention from ArenaNet is a violation of forum guidelines.

Do not engage in staff call-outs. Using the words “ArenaNet” or any staff member’s name will not expedite the answer to your query.

I apologize for my mistake.

That would be a nice option. I might be confused how it works because I didn’t think I could replace a sigil with another one without breaking everything. I would like to be able to just replace one with the other and not worry about the one I don’t want anymore. I’d also like to see them make a few options for some of the gem store items like the molten axe. I only bought one just before it went off the store. As we know it is soul bound on use. I’m an alt aholic and would like to be able to put it in the bank from one character so one of my other characters can use it. I know the idea is to sell more of them but it would be nice if I could. I am not buying the sickle for all my alts because I don’t like the animation as much.

At least all my alts can ride my broom stick. Funny story though. Today I was looking for it so I could use it for my alt with the wings to ride around. I couldn’t find it and thought I deleted the character it was on. Then when I equipped the new on I did a /facepalm when I realized it goes in the town clothes slot and that is where the old one is on an other alt. So now I have 2 I guess. Maybe I will start a broom stick motorcycle club.

A fanboy is someone who generally adds nothing to a discussion of a topic because they feel the need to protect whatever they are fond of at the moment. They normally refute any criticisms or active discussions by telling people to leave the game if they don’t like it, by saying that others are only trying to tear things down, by telling others they are crazy, delusional, haters. Their posts are usually not logical or helpful in any way, shape, or form, and normally use more negative words and phrases than the posts that they rail against.

Forums are here to add discussion about game mechanics, class balance, content and to provide logical feedback to the dev team from a wide variety of people who play the game. You can tell a fanboy/girl because they seldom have anything of worth to offer besides telling others to be quiet or to shut up.

This topic has quite a few of them.

So is there a term for people that post on the other end of the spectrum? For example saying something like, “Such and such update is terrible and Anet doesn’t care about the players. This game is going down the toilet and everyone I know is quitting. Anet is just greedy. /endpost”

I see that type of debate fairly often as well. Usually both types of posts end up in some thread which causes a repeating cycle until the thread is 6+ pages and I’m totally lost wondering what the topic was about by page 2.

It is unfortunate. In all my years of participating and moderating various forums both game related and not, complaints are the status quo. I think part of the issue is that people who are unhappy are the most likely to find places to voice their lack of satisfaction. You see it often with most forms of customer feedback. Those that are reasonably satisfied are the least likely to provide feedback. Those that a very happy are more likely to provide feedback than the reasonably satisfied but less likely than the very unsatisfied. Around here the later is called a fanboy/fanboi. I still don’t know what that means. I’ve come to the conclusion that it has something to do with liking Justin Bieber??

From my experience at lower levels doing a heart a few levels above isn’t that difficult. I’m not trying to be condescending, I think it is set up that way to allow for doing them at a lower level. Also some of the don’t require fighting anything as there are other options but these sometimes take longer.

Another option is to explore the main cities. City exploration gives really good xp for lower levels, especially if you complete the map and this does not require combat. Some of the vistas and points of interest can be a little tricky to get to but if you need it an online guid can walk you through.

You an also go to the starter maps for the other races and do the hearts there that match your level or are lower. This will still grant you exp. Also one thing you should be doing is keeping a set of harvesting tools. Harvest everything in your path. This does two things, it gives you something to craft with or sell and it gives a little exp. Along with that revive every NPC you find. This also awards some small exp and will help you make progress toward your combat healer title, 1000 revives.

So as you can see there are several ways to gain exp along the way even if they don’t provide a tone, taking 10 seconds to revive and NPC or to harvest some copper adds up after a while.

Good luck!

it is too late to get the hats and the achievement points from fireworks. I don’t think it will be available again.

Sorry I already sent a pair to someone else. I’m not kidding either. I hope this doesn’t start a chain of requests for wings.

There is the option to buy gems and convert them to gold. I think when I bought the gold it was like 550 gems, something like that.

Have you cleared out other mails to make sure you got the mail with your keys? There is a limit on how many mails you can have, I think it’s 10, so if you have too many and delete a few mails it may arrive once you are under the limit.

How do I get another investigation box

in Dragon Bash

Did you complete the Scene of the Crime instance before leaving? If so the Dulfy site says this:

NOTE: You DO NOT need to use the investigation kit when talking to any of the NPCs. Investigation kit is only used while instance the Scene of the Crime instance.

http://dulfy.net/2013/06/19/gw2-every-piece-matters-missing-suspects-achievement-guide/

Also something I found out is investigation kit is soul bound. I found this out because I did the instance with my least favorite low level alt. I didn’t start it expecting to get items such as this and just happened to have the alt in the area so I thought I would do it. Anyway I checked the kit in my alts inventory and it is soul boud.

One thing I was unable to test because I don’t have any friends, LOL, is if someone double clicks it in their inventory which makes them drop like leaving a trail of them, is if another play can pick them up with out it being soul bound. I’m not talking about dropping them via weapon swap. If a player double clicks them in their inventory they can leave a trail of them as they walk about.

Vorrk bugged

The Dulfy site suggested this:

Interact with ogre’s corpse and you will get an option to complete this suspect.
If this bugs out and you only get the leave option try destroy the kit and re-enter the Scene of the Crime and re-watch the cutscene again.

I’m not sure this answers your question but I had the same problem. I did the instance with my lowest and least favorite alt because I happened to be in that area doing something else with it. I looked around and found that Dulfy site says this:

NOTE: You DO NOT need to use the investigation kit when talking to any of the NPCs. Investigation kit is only used while instance the Scene of the Crime instance.

not sure if there is a new mac client but today my game crashed and then when it relaunched it started to download “tgupdate client 1.11”

is that a new mac client update?

Yes this update appears to have fixed the Gem Store bug that would not allow Mac users to buy gems. I’m not sure if it fixed other things because I have not tested/looked for any other changes yet.

Hi, everyone. We’ve enabled a change that should fix the problem preventing you all from purchasing gems.

We apologize that you all were unable to complete those purchases and thank you all for your understanding while the team worked to resolve it.

That’s great news Regina. I was hoping I could get that new horn to play before it went away. Thank you for letting us know it works now as this should make many here happy. Any word an what else is going on with the Mac client? Many of us are eager to hear any kind of news related to it even if it isn’t necessarily good news.

Other way 2get Holographic Dragon Wing?

in Dragon Bash

But if some of the content is not accessible to me because I don’t play enough, well that’s just something I’ll have to live with and accept

This. As a newer player, about 3 months, and very casual player, this is the first update where I actually felt I could get a few cool things and I did. I got 3 hats, the holo wings from a drop, dyes seemed to be dropping faster, about 12 holo minis (I gave a bunch away so I’m not sure), 3 minis for buying gems, a ton of fireworks that were fun to use during RP activities, and that doll (which admittedly is useless unless rolling a new alt). Toss in the other loot and coin I got playing the content I feel like I made out like a bandit. Well, aside from the update broke the Mac client and now Mac users can’t buy gems.
