I don’t understand. After completing what?
hmmm, one part is really angry with gaile, I ask for a formal reaction and instead you dump me in the general discussion.
I’m guessing it was because your issues regarding the unpleasant sounds of the horns is not an issue with your account. Threads get moved all the time when they do not fit into the category of the forum.

I understand, but still it goes against human nature:)
If I ever see you trying to sell or trade something via chat I’ll keep that in mind. o_O
Those weird high pitched, I guess bird sounds, grief me every time I’m in The Grove. When I first heard it I thought something was wrong with my air conditioner. Seriously I did. Now they still bug me but there isn’t anything I can do about it aside from not going there or muting the sound.
I think Beldin’s point is you can try most of them because of the character slots. It’s hard to say what is most fun because everyone has a different play style. Plus a lot of responses will be different due to what I stated previously.
Personally I like my ranger for WvW because I’m not so great a close combat stuff and my bear is the closest thing to a tank I have seen in this game.
I do think it is odd they can’t use rifles given their name and everything.
Every time I enter one I have to pass through customs. I tell you it was a pain trying to explain those 10 stacks of candy the other day.

I don’t get it. Why report something that saves you 25g?
I am dead serious.
See there is this certain quality most people appreciate called honesty.
Good grief..
AmberEZ, although it doesn’t affect me personally and I don’t work for Anet it is good to see players exercising honesty.
I am. tons of people in my guild are. This is how it’s going to be for GW2. They have the next YEAR planned out this way.
And while I’m a hardcore gamer myself, it’s not right for someone to say “Focus less on others and give me more attention!” So I’d say, “no”. It’s not time they give one playerbase more attention than others. That’s just as bad of a philosophy as temporary content.
+1 Well worded.
The difficult thing aside from taking up Anet resources used to do things like monitor reports of botting and verbal abuse is that it would be difficult to prove someone standing by a bank is purposely trying to annoy/grief. Most likely they are, but it would be hard for Anet to tell you can’t play with the toy we sold you here, here, over there, that place over there, and here. Then the people who paid cash/gold for it would be unhappy that they paid for something that they couldn’t use in certain places. Now if they are running around a player all over the map doing then I could see that as more of an offense.
I do agree that an option for players to mute all the musical instruments would be nice but I’m not a game programer so I’m not sure how easy that would be to implement.

I noticed that too but they came back a minute or so after the animation was done, maybe less I didn’t time it. I didn’t have to do anything with equipment.
Looks like he had too much Dragon Bash ale and passed out on it.
According to the information provided here by Anet staff the gem cards should be a work around for the current bug that does not allow Mac customers to buy gems with real money.
Here is what the suggested from Ashley from Anet:
Hey guys – I’m sure some of you have already heard through the ticketing system but just confirming that this is a known issue and is being actively investigated. At this time the only “workaround” would be to make purchases with a Windows machine if you have access to one (also includes running in Bootcamp). Additionally, you could also purchase Gem Cards from retailers such as Best Buy and Game Stop in the meantime.
I’m sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you all but I appreciate your patience as we look into this issue.
Trog – The issue for me is not isolated to the paypal option and the software ‘hanging’ is no indication of fixes in the works.
I can confirm as of this posting Gem Purchases are still not working using Paypal OR Credit card in my Mac client.
Kyllaa, If Anet isn’t willing to address an issue that is losing them money, you must be right, Mac Client issues are of no importance.
Oh I was just brining it up since I noticed a change from getting the error message when choosing Paypal to it actually opening the window. As I mentioned the window still didn’t allow to complete the process. I thought maybe it was a clue that some work was being done. It’s hard to tell because they tell us very little/nothing about what is going on.
At this point even if it allows to confirm the purchase I would still be leery that there may be a bug between them getting paid and gems being delivered to the account. I’m not going to beta test that one.
I ran in Rambo style and got killed. Went back in, the mobs I killed didn’t respawn, finished it up by taking my time to evaluate the situation before going nuts on the keys. I’m terrible at such things. I can’t even tell you how many times I have gotten killed at low level stages of personal stories. Honestly when the instance started I didn’t notice that I was scaled up up and saw those L80 mobs and thought I was toast. So to me it wasn’t that hard.
It may just be with the Paypal option right now but there might be something in the works. I decided to test it a few minutes ago. I didn’t get the error after putting in my information, address etc. that I have been getting. The procede to Paypal screen comes up now but the button is greyed out and cannot be clicked. This may be a sign of some sort of progress toward resolving the issue.
No one is forced to participate in these events.
followed by; nobody is forcing you to do the daily, followed by nobody is forcing you to get weapon skins, followed by nobody is forcing you to log in to get laurels for ascended items, followed by nobody is forcing you to play this game.
You are whats wrong with the community, brainwashed players whose only responses to everything are “nobody is forcing you” and “this game is just not for you”. Please next time you try to comment something like this read it, read it, go take a cup of coffee, and then delete the post.
I don’t recall saying this game isn’t for you or anyone else. I’m sorry that you feel I’m such a bane on the community because I stated a fact that no one has to do Dragon Bash events. The majority of your post is more or less putting words in my mouth or postulating what I might say next which might be a way for you to express your frustration with GW2 as a whole. I’m sorry that you feel that way toward me but I plan to continue being a part of the community as I’m sure you will as well. I’m pretty sure that we can both coexist and do so without using insults.
I’ve been avoiding dealing with them including parts of my low level personal stories that include them. I’m not sure what it is, as I have tried different methods, but what makes them so difficult? I’ve gone up against them where I had been down scaled from level 50 to 25 or whatever with maxed out gear and I still get beat down a fair amount.
They seem to be much stronger than other mobs, they charge you in larger numbers, and even when I try my ranger they will blow past my pet and beat me down. They deal a lot of damage real fast it seems. I’ve noticed this with the nightmare court or what ever they are as well.
So what I’m wondering is their a specific type of attack/condition that they are more susceptible to? Do I need to just kill one or two, run away then come back and kill a few more and so forth?
Of all the mobs I have encountered they seem to be the most difficult to deal with so far solo PvE. Keep in mind I’m still low-mid levels. I thought the bandits that would respawn on top of each other were bad. :P
You did take what I said out of context…while admittedly no one is ‘holding a gun to your head’ for participation, the previous paragraph to that snippet set up the comparison to a past event, thus assumes participation as a premise.
To clarify, when I say ‘forced’ I mean this event (and the previous few) forces you to do some of the most mundane things ever. You are of course free to avoid them, but that really is counter-intuitive to the whole point of an event in general.
Well this comes down to who is speaking for who sort of debate and neither is correct. I started playing in the middle of the update before the last update, what ever that was. I can’t remember the name. I do know that there were some mails and such but being new I had no idea what the purpose was or what to do. When the second one came I saw it and noticed that the events appeared to be in levels to far ahead for me. So I just went about my business learning the game and enjoying it.
Now we get Dragon Bash, have a few mid level characters now and look at the events and think cool, here are some I can do because they don’t involve going to exotic place on the map I have not discovered yet. I have participated in the events the revolved around my game play. I will agree that some events are a little over kill as far as redundancy such as eating a bunch of candy. But even that was a bit of fun in role play situation throwing up all over the place.
Moa racing, yes not for new players. Effigies, one of those things where it is what you make of it. For map explorers and role players there are many ways to incorporate them in to usual play style. Fireworks, another role play situation and get a party favor, 3 hats.
The holos were apparently designed for all levels but unfortunately some players felt the need to camp them and kill them as fast as possible. That got fixed a little by making the holos stronger, but eventually leveled out on it’s own when the campers finished the achievement. Now they are sitting around active all over the place.
Dragon coffers, cool, they drop from all levels of mobs. I’m sure newer players appreciated this and many probably got wings and tickets. It was nice that these prizes didn’t require going to the far ends of the map for lower level players.
The thing with events like this is that they try to put a little bit in for all types of game play. Dragon ball for PvP and so on. Some of these events I’m fairly sure were incorporated for role playing and map wanderers. At least that is how they have been integrated into my game.
Yes there are some aspects that are not as desirable as myself an many had hoped. In this market of gaming this will always be the case. However there is a lot more to do in this game and it can’t be said that new players feel obligated to participate in Dragon Bash. However, if they chose to do so there is level appropriate things for them to do to accomplish this goal. I did the instance today and I was surprised. I saw these level 80 mobs and thought oh crud I’m toast but then I noticed I’d been upscaled.
Or wait 10 seconds. I know that is a long time “forever” and all but I think most people can handle it.
if you have to do 50 effigies and wait 10 seconds at each, that’s 500 seconds, which is 8 minutes and 20 seconds total!
Ohhh I get it now!! 8 minutes and 20 seconds truly is FOREVER!!!!
It is when you only have an hour to spare.
So you only have 1 hour to spare out of the entire course of the event? Okay, then I can see where you would want a 1 second cool down as opposed to 10. I hope you find some time in your day so you can enjoy the rest of the event and maybe some WvW, PvP or what ever else it is you like to do in game.
Why would anyone want to stick around doing something as stupid as dancing in front of a stupid effigy? It’s annoying. If you like staring at your character looking like an idiot, then enjoy.
Thanks for your permission. During role play with my guild members we have enjoyed doing just that. I’m glad to know it is okay with you though.
I chuckled, didn’t notice! XD
Appreciate your noting that.
Forum smile of the day for me.
Well aside from that goofy picture I posted in the hat thread.
Fast forward to today, and new players are forced to participate in the most mundane activities ever.
No one is forced to participate in these events. I’ve logged in everyday since the event started and have yet to see a screen that said, “You Must Now Participate In The Dragon Bash Event To Continue Playing” The new players have a bigger advantage when it comes to this because they have a whole lot of things outside the event to discover.
So basically if you’re not forced to do the event you don’t have any right to talk about those activities quality?
I’m not forced to comment on Living Story events, but I do so because I feel the focus of this game is shifting on those activities and by doing so other aspects of the game that I like and need fixing are being ignored, so I have all rights to complain since I paid the game and a quite decent amount of gems. When I think about 2012 updates (oh God November update) and I compare them to 2013 updates I can’t help but being angry about the direction they took.
You also wasn’t forced to answer the topic, but you did.
I responding to this specifically.
Fast forward to today, and new players are forced to participate in the most mundane activities ever.
That is, you are basically saying ‘this is for people with gold, move along’…which I personally do not think fosters a great community spirit.
I bet on a Moa once. Didn’t win. -50s. Work on map completion while also tagging holos along the way + roughly 15 gold after selling items I looted, + 8 minis from coffer drops, a half dozen or so dyes and a pair of wings.
I’m a very casual player. I have gotten so far what was stated above plus a hat for each of my armor types, leveled up several alts significantly and completed some maps. I did however make a post when the event started that the Moa racing was too costly for lower level/casual players. I agree with that so I didn’t do the Moa race again.
Insert fanboy comments v v v here v v v what ever that even means.
Or wait 10 seconds. I know that is a long time “forever” and all but I think most people can handle it.

I swear it’s some kind of psychosis with gamers and their favorite MMO company. They will defend every single aspect of a company and its game, even stuff that is obviously broken. I love gw2, but I have to admit things like RNG and requiring 50s to even participate in the moa race is just beyond stupid.
I don’t have a favorite MMO company. I’m not even a fan of Anet. A quick look at the Mac support forum will easily show that I am not very happy with their level of service.
I simply stated a fact, no one has to do the event. No one.
Fast forward to today, and new players are forced to participate in the most mundane activities ever.

Like the fireworks some tasks like this can be seen as a place for the players like me that enjoy role playing to make it a creative event. I’ve had some fun with my guild/friends running around making a party out of them. Granted we didn’t do it with all of them but we still used some imagination to make the task more enjoyable.
I don’t see why this thread is still going. Everyone knows I’m the best player. Don’t make me post my leader board stats again.
While they can be annoying to a minor degree as others stated they are used outside of WvW for various reasons other than to annoy other people. Well, in most cases.
Plus if they turned them off in PvE people who worked hard to get them/buy them would be running in here with their heads exploding. After all it is a bit of a status symbol as well and I’m sure most commanders have worked hard to get it.
I think they should put a half hour -50% on all stats of those in range to hear it. The ultimate GW2 griefer’s weapon! Muahahaha!!!!
Fun for WvW as well. The players with the horns could charge head first into enemy zergs. Oh so much potential.

Can’t purchase gems via Mac client either through Paypal OR Credit Card. Getting quite frustrated. Get this fixed or come up with a work-around. It would seem this should qualify as a priority since you are losing money every day it is down.
First thank you Ashley for taking the time to review this forum and supply some response to our concerns. That being said here is her response as to work around:

From what I have seen around the boards, anytime you start playing with macros you might be ridding a thin line. If you want an absolute answer as opposed to answers like mine or others that are based on things seen and heard then I suggest you contact support. This serves two key purposes. It gives you the correct answer from the source and gives you documentation should something go wrong:
support.guildwars2.com
“Ask A Question”
I didn’t say those attitudes make sense, only that it seems to be most players motivation based on what they complain about on the forum and suggest as improvements.
I understand your suggestion and it is never wrong to provide constructive suggestions. However as with a lot of MMOs, and life in general, no matter what is done there will always be someone saying that it isn’t fair because they really really really want it, but don’t want to have to do x,y,or z to get it.
It’s one of those things that unfortunately would not be a win/win. People that worked hard in game to get them would start complaining that it isn’t fair because someone else just bought them without having to play as much.
Anytime something someone wants is on the gem store the “Anet is greedy” group will flock to the forums.
Following that you would have someone complaining because they just bought gems to get them and then got a drop for something they just paid for.
Then as more and more people got drops they ones that paid would not be happy that they are so common.
Then you would have people that got the rare drops complaining there is nothing special now because every Azura and their brothers now has them.
Then you will start getting the complaints that Player A got the drop after 50 coffers or what ever and Player B farmed 10,000 of them and didn’t get any.
From my experience with MMOs, there is never a win/win when it comes to any item, shiny, in the game. What it comes down to in cases like this is that one side or the other will often start claiming that it isn’t fair because they really really want it.
Perhaps someone needs to figure out a way to get in touch with Mike. If you Google “Guild Wars 2 for Mac” ,which I did when looking into buying GW2 the first result features this on the page:
Today we’re happy to announce another major milestone in the development of Guild Wars 2: going forward, ArenaNet will also be supporting the game on Apple’s Mac OS X. The Mac Beta client is available immediately for all Guild Wars 2 players. It shares the same features and connects to the same live game servers as the PC client. Anyone who purchases Guild Wars 2 can now play it on both PC and Mac.
Bringing Guild Wars 2 to the Mac is huge for us, because it introduces the game to an entire group of players who are often ignored by game developers. The ability to play together with your friends is one of the underlying principles of Guild Wars 2, and providing a Mac client means that friends and guildmates can play together regardless of what operating system they favor.
On top of it all, ArenaNet staffers are big fans of Macs. We offer them as part of our employee laptop subsidy program, and our president Mike O’Brien is rarely seen without his Mac laptop. We’re as excited as anyone to play Guild Wars 2 on OS X.
And further down the page:
Performance and system requirements aren’t finalized. Review the beta hardware specification, and understand that your overall experience will be better when we release the final version.
I’ve read it very carefully and the wording of this appears to be an obvious attempt to lure in Mac only customers. I’ve bolded the points I believe are doing so.
Now I don’t want to get into the whole, at least they made a Mac client deal. I don’t want to get into the whole it’s a Cider wrapper deal. I don’t want to get into the whole it’s Beta deal. I don’t want to get into the whole at least 99% of it works deal. I don’t want to get into the whole we are a small part of the customer base deal.
My issue is exactly that as customers any type of (acknowledgment) that the client is or isn’t being worked on would at least benefit the Mac customers who seem confused because the only support they get is from other customers. I still find it laughable that the only time I have seen anyone from Anet say that a problem is being worked on is the problem that won’t allow Mac users to give Anet more money. They jumped on that rather quickly. However it still isn’t fixed and aside from the disappointment of Mac user not being able to purchase a few new items, I think it’s a good thing.
Although I would rather not see this, at this point I’d be content if they simply stated that there is no development or work being done at this time and not to expect any until further notice. Make it a great big sticky at the top of this forum and change the name of the forum to Mac User Supporting Mac users. Change the information on the pages related to the Mac client so potential customers will know this before buying.
If they did this it would at least be better than leaving things up in the air and keeping customers guessing about what is going on. Right now the way they are handling this is just shady. It isn’t the fact that the game works aside from some smaller glitches it is fact that several members have been working hard to get some answers and the only response is to close a few helpful threads without explanation and to say we know you want to give us more money and we are working on it. In the mean time feel free to go out of your way if you still really want to give us more money.
I’ve got my $60 worth but what makes me unhappy is complete lack of respect for Mac users, no matter how small the customer base, that have given them money. Give them an honest answer as to the status of the Mac client and I won’t feel the need to express my discontent.
Thank you Kyllaa and FlamingFoxx for being so helpful and taking the time to help other Mac users. You two are really the only support Mac customers receive.

The term could also be seen as related to a hate crime. The first time I heard the term it was used in the movie American History X. The brutality was portrayed during a hate crime in the movie. After the movie became popular I started seeing the term thrown around much more. Of course it could be less related to that now as the term has made it’s way through the slang grapevines but the action itself is still deplorable.
There should be a wiki on how to use a wiki.
Rule #1 should be: Don’t trust information that doesn’t come with an official source. Sadly, the GW2 wiki isn’t really the most professional with sources.
Wikipedia is probably the best example of this. I often see people quoting Wikipedia as the absolute source of correct information. As this is true in a lot of cases, I have found countless mistakes myself. Try citing Wikipedia in a college paper and watch your grade drop.
From the Wikipedia website:
Who writes Wikipedia
You do! Anyone can be bold and edit an existing article or create a new one, and volunteers do not need to have any formal training.
From the GW2 Wiki:
Feel free to edit pages yourself and make use of discussion pages. Wiki content is created, maintained, and administrated by players.
How does that saying go? Blame the players not the game.
Basically the rule is 1 key/button press can only equal 1 action.
For clarity and an official answer if you are still interested I would suggest contacting support:

“Ask A Question”
It sounds like you are in a not so good guild. The advise others have given to look for a new guild is sound advice. On the other hand I would like to offer this observation about guilds that are sending announcements out over map frequently. While I’m sure this doesn’t apply to many guilds, I would be a bit hesitant to just join the first guild that is /map “Join our great guild. We are the most fun and do everything. Great members…..”
I believe at times when you see this, some guilds are just trying to take in as many new members as possible so they can rack up guild influence faster for the sake of something else aside from helping new players. Spamming /map every 5 minutes in my mind makes the guild questionable and in my opinion is indicative of lack of consideration because most people don’t care for guild spam in chat. Please note once again, I know this does not apply to most guilds. Still, many good guilds do not need to advertise very often as their reputation tends to speak for itself.
My advice is this. While you are traveling around in the world observe other players with guild tags. Look for players actually playing together with the same guild tags. This is a good sign that the guild does play together even in the low level areas and probably helps each other out. If you see something like this and you are interested in their guild send a whisper or a mail stating something along the lines of you are interested in their guild and would like to discuss the possibility of joining.
You can also look in the guild forum and post that you are looking for a guild as well with a detailed message of what you are looking for. Make sure you mention the server you are on:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/guilds/recruitment
Once again this is not a very good indication of how good the guild is, but if you take some time and look for the more thought out guild advertisements this may help you make a better decision.
If you do contact a guild and specify that you are interested in more information and the first response is a guild invite I would be wary of that as well. I better sign that the guild is more supportive of new members is if they take the time to discuss their guild with you.
In my opinion joining/being invited into a guild should be a two way interview process. This helps to improve the chances that a new member will find the helpful and fun guild they are looking for and also improves the chances that the guild is getting a member that will participate. I don’t mean a 1 hour discussion but a few minutes to discuss both the benefits of the guild and what the guild will gain by taking you in.
Once again, not all guild that advertise in /map are just trying to stack new members for influence or to look more popular, but I feel that many do. I’ve even seen advertisements saying things like, “Join our guild and you will automatically be promoted to an officer.” o_O
tl;dr
Be selective when it comes to joining a guild.
Make sure to ask questions before joining as well expect the guild to ask you a few questions before the invite.
Consider using other methods or tools such as the guild forum to search out a guild that interests you.

Yeah, I’ve thought about the time difference. It kinda sucks because I’ll probably rarely be able to play with my guild. At least I’ll be good on my server though. Thanks for the info.
Just tell them to get their lazy rears out of bed on Saturday morning.
I’m sure since you are moving there you already know about the time difference so playing on a NA server from Japan, in the morning you would be playing with NA players that are playing at night and vice versa.
This time of year it probably wouldn’t be too bad as younger players are out of school and weekends should be okay.
As the time of this post it’s 10:27 AM in Tokyo.
I’m new to GW2.
I have a level 8 Mesmer Asura.I’ve only gotten around 50 coins after coming this far and selling all my junk. Am I doing something wrong? It seems like I can’t get any coins really to buy the weapons and armor that I want…
The heart missions reward coins as well. If you have done some then make sure you check your mail be cause they will be in there. You mentioned selling junk and that is another way to get coins. You can also sell drops you don’t think you will need or can’t to to vendors.
So basically, at an early level do heart missions, kill mobs that you can along the way for drops that you can sell or use, do personal story for other items that are usually geared for your level. This is a great way to start until you get the hang of it a bit more.
If you have anymore questions please feel free to ask or send me a PM and I’d be glad to help you out.
I’d like to see more “fun” titles, rather than achievement titles. Silly things, like if you fall to your death and get a certain amount of damage, you can a title like “Watch that first step it’s a doosy”, or “Owwwwww!”
Stuff like that would add to the fun of the game.
I agree I would already have many:
“Master of Repairs
“It Was a Short Life”
“Dazed and Confused”
“Where the Heck am I?”
“Run Forest Run”
“Please Help Me”
and of course everyone’s favorite “Credit Card Wielder” but this title isn’t necessary as it is obvious from my gem store armor skins, my Molten Axe, Consortium Sickle, my cruising around on a broom stick and high level weapon appearances transmuted onto low level weapons.
I believe Urmaug’s Secret is the easiest due to the shortness of it, the ease of the jumps, but mostly the quick access to it.
(That’s the one by the waterfall in the NE corner of LA)
I cheated and looked at the video walk-thru of Urmaug’s Secret. Speaking as a kitten-poor jumper, It looks a jillion times harder than King Jalis’s Refuge, and an order of magnitude longer.
Most of you folks probably grew up with MMOs. I’ve been playing them for about 19 months, and I’m 58 years old. It took me forever to graduate from WASD. And recently I’ve figured out that I was crippling myself because apparently I had internalized Newtonian physics so much that I wasn’t even trying to jump around corners. kitten that education!
Not complaining, not whining, just saying there are reasons I’m so bad at jumping. I’ll deal with it. :P
That made me smile because I can relate. I’ve found myself in many vistas and the few jump puzzles looking around and thinking certainly I can’t jump on that apparent ledge around the corner. I must have gone the wrong way
For example:
I want to play chess like hockey.
…
You, 31 friends and some creativity and you could.
If I remember right you can avoid the oozes in the Queensdale JP quite easily by running up the ramp on the left side of the last room. You lose all aggro there and can jump down behind the chest.
I guess that is part of the jump puzzle I never noticee. I never took the time to actually look around the room. I killed enough to clear the path, ran to the chest before respawn and got out of there or die and WP out.
Heck the first time I went to that puzzle I took the path to the left and found that small chest. I thought I was done but latter found out it was a decoy.
