One of the things which disappointed me in GW2 is the lack of hammers for Rangers, and the lack of classes who can use hammers. Only the heavy classes can use hammers at the moment. So why not resolve that?
Allow Rangers to use hammer skills! Bring back the Bunny Thumper from GW1!
Right now in PvE the Ranger is scoffed at in dungeons. But what weapon is it missing? It has long-range bow DPS, close-range “chase” sword, bursty evasive greatsword, and AoE ranged axes. Problem with all these are the lack of synergy between any of them.
The Ranger is blessed with uncommon combo fields. Besides fire from Bonfire and Flame Trap, the Ranger also has access to Frost, Poison, and Water. Why not make better use of them? That is the premise for hammer.
Firstly, the skills:
Hammer Bash
Activation: 1/2
Damage: 241
Range: 130
Chain. Strike your foe.
Crushing Blow
——-Activation: 1/2
——-Damage: 254
——-Range: 130
Chain. Activates faster if foe is under 50% health.
Irresistible Blow
——-Activation: 1/2
——-Damage: 258
——-Range: 130
——-Combo finisher: Blast
Chain. Cannot be blocked.
Crude Swing
Activation: 3/4
Recharge: 10
Damage (9x): 600
Blind4: 3s
Range: 160
Combo Finisher: Whirl
Spin while moving and swing your hammer while blinding foes with dust projectiles.
Never Rampage Alone
Activation: 1/2
Recharge: 15
Damage: 300
Swiftness: 5s
Range: 1130
Combo Finisher: Leap
Hop like a bunny towards your target. If you strike a foe, your pet teleports to your location. You and your pet gain swiftness for 5 seconds.
Needling Shot
Activation: 1/4
Recharge: 20
Damage: 362
Range: 130
Bash your foe with dextrous speed. Recharges instantly if your target has half health.
Brambles
Activation: 3/4
Recharge: 30
Damage: 200
Duration: 10
Bleeding10: 8s
Immobilized: 1s
Range: 130
Smash the ground to tangle your foe with brambles. They are immobile until the vines are destroyed.
This weapon setup is designed to synergize with the Ranger’s many combo fields while chasing wounded foes to harass them. It has access to every combo finisher except projectile.
In PvP this weapon set shines by leaping to the foe and using ice trap to slow them down while spiking them with Needling Shot to finish them.
In PvE you can use torch or fire trap and then swap to hammer to spam blast finishers for might on your team. It also allows you to spam weakness on a foe through the use of Poison fields, and to spam heals through Healing Spring.
This set shines most in boss fights however because it allows the Ranger to burst when the boss reaches 50% hp (similar to D/D heartseeker) and match the damage potential of other classes.
Anyways, this is just something I thought of on the spot while playing Ranger today. The numbers themselves could be tweaked, but what do you think of the concept?
Do the footsteps of Charr players bother anyone else?
I want equipment templates and macros back. Similarly for traits. It’s annoying to manually switch armor and traits.
At least give us the ability to swap them with templates/macros outside of combat.
Yes Jormag Breath lights up surroundings. But the lighting is client-side only; Other players cannot see it.
Does this have any use in pve and dungeons?
Hi. I’ve already obtained my Hunter precursor, but I’m not sure where to start going after my legendary weapon “Predator”.
Does anyone have guides or tips for the most efficient/cheapest ways to craft this? Thanks!
They are balanced for level 80 toons in exotic gears. They are too easy for me actually.
Minor complaint, but the Living Story instances are lacking some positive things the Personal Story had.
Specifically, I cannot leave an instance when the objectives (talking to Braham) are complete. I must reconnect or manually map myself out.
(Also, if we delete our Living Story mail, are we in deep skritt? How do we keep track without it being added to My Story?)

I hope to see GW2 spirits more like GW1 spirits, with powerful effects to justify their fragility.
Firstly, I suggest increasing their maximum targets to 10 instead of 5 because oftentimes our pet or dungeon NPCs steal buffs better used on and vice versa.
Secondly, give their secondary effects (Cold Snap, Quicksand, etc…) blast finishers to make up for the Ranger’s lack of blasts.
Overall however, if ANET does not intend Ranger to match the raw damage of other classes, then give them a comfy role on the team as a buffbot like the GW1 ritualist.
One effect I believe will be very useful for Stone Spirit is rather than 3s protection every 10 seconds, instead it pulses every 5 seconds a buff which reduces damage taken to 10% of your max HP (Like GW1 PROTECTIVE SPIRIT!) This both makes Ranger an excellent ally for bosses, but also resolves the issue of pets dying too easily to telegraphed attacks (It’s balanced by the fact aoes would hit the spirit.)
Another effect I believe would make ranger spirits more useful is to give Storm Spirit a chance to apply 2s Quickness instead of Swiftness. With the recent nerf to Quickness, it allows a more lenient distribution of the buff, and when compared to Time Warp it still doesn’t overpower it against bosses.
Sun Spirit is also something which could be modified because Burning does not stack like Bleed does, making it totally useless in groups. My suggestion is to give it an effect like Sigil of Fire, where every 10 seconds all allies affected by Sun Spirit perform an AoE attack with their next strike.

Please do not add a minimap. It takes away from the great sense of exploration.
Just some feedback, but I really feel like exploring the Super Adventure Box is a lot more engaging than exploring the open world. And that is not to bash the devs who work so hard, but I hope they look at the SAB when designing future content.
1. The player is rewarded for exploring. Shop locations, chests, shortcut worms, baubbles, etc…
2. Monsters fights take more brains than Open World. This is ironic because Open World PvE makes use of all sorts of unique mechanics and builds, but when you get right down to it, Open World PvE is 100b or 1spamming in a can for Warriors while soaking up damage. Whereas the knockback nature of SAB and projectile-based attacks means we must approach each foe differently because we cannot afford to get hit. Foes in SAB prioritize actually moving to dodge their attacks rather than reflex dodge rolling. There for, they have much more complexity than Risen Putrifier.
3. It’s instanced and foes do not respawn. I cannot stress this enough, but respawning foes in open world pve takes away my incentive to explore because I’m constantly fighting.
4. Unique exploration mechanics. Falling platforms, trampoline mushrooms, poison water, and so on.
5. The constant feeling of risk and danger. While it’s true most JPs in Open World PvE give us 1 chance or we fail, the SAB better captures the intense feelings of risk and danger because it pressures us with pits of death, floating platforms, etc… and a limited amount of lives or we start all over rather than some midpoint.
7. Non-linearity. You aren’t just doing a JP when playing SAB. It lets us find different ways to complete the level.
8. The overall puzzles are designed very well and make us use our brain. Perhaps this is because of its instanced nature so we do not see other players jumping as well, but they’re just overall designed better.
Anyways, that’s just my feedback. I feel SAB is more engaging than open world PvE.
What about healing circles? And what gear to use?
This would be SO COOL in PvE if it isn’t a bug, as Engineer turrets are in desperate need of (another) buff.
Hmm… Maybe once this is fixed, they should give turrets stealth abilities?
I think The Dreamer would be cooler if our character dashed with a rainbow trail rather than footprints.
1up.
Add more content too. Its primitive graphics and objects should be easy for devs to manage as well, allowing them to make tons of Super Adventure Box maps in the time it takes to make one normal map in GW2.
It’s some of the most fun I’ve had in awhile, and I didn’t have to group for it either (though grouping made it more fun!)
Add some 8bit costumes in the gemstore too.
I don’t believe the aoe limit should be removed, but they should certainly increase it for certain skills like the Ranger warhorn because your pet either steals buffs or does not receive buffs.
If you liked Seiken Densetsu 3 or Secret of Mana, think of GW1 as that with a party of 8.
Go Prophecies if you want to experience GW1 to its fullest. For quests prior to level 20, the AI “henchmen” are good enough.
The storyline of Prophecies will relate most to you as a GW2 player.
Once you reach Lion’s Arch, it will allow you to travel to Eye of the North and recruit your first 3 heroes. It will also allow you to travel to Elona and pick up your next few heroes.
Make sure you recruit “Olias” as soon as you can. Unlike GW2, Necromancers in GW1 are VERY overpowered! They are core to many endgame teams and most builds involve 3 necromancers running a setup called “Sabsway” where 1 necromancer heals with infinite energy using ritualist skills, another necromancer spawns an army of 12 exploding minions, and another necromancer weakens foes with curses.
Also, if you want to level to 20 very quickly, go to a place called “Gunnar’s Hold” in Eye of the North and you will find an NPC who does boxing named “Kilroy”. Do his dungeon quest and then leave the outpost and re-enter (or change districts) to do the quest/dungeon again after completing it.

GW1 is about skill synergy. I am a ranger who micromanages his heroes to cast Spirit Weapon on me so my Barrage nukes clumps foes for 300 damage!
Also, I’m considering returning to GW1 and working towards vanquisher. If anyone would like me to help them, or want to join me for vanquishing, feel free to pm me and I’ll install GW1! ;D
PM me on the forums if you need help with GW1.
As for class selection, here’s what I recommend based on leaning curve:
Easiest:
Dervish (AoE melee fighter)
Warrior (Frontline melee, AoE knockdown)
Ritualist (Engineer turrets done right, buffs team with spirits and spirit weapons.)
Mid-easy:
Paragon (Underpowered AI, overpowered with human PvE skills)
Assassin (GW2’s Thief)
Necromancer (Minion army)
Mid-hard:
Elementalist (“Nuker”/aoe)
Mesmer (Punishes foes)
Necromancer (Micromanages an army of exploding minions)
Hardest:
Ranger (Interrupts foes, dodging, ranged PHYSICAL aoe)
Monk (Heals team, hard to command AI team.)
Paragon is very overpowered when using PvE skills (unavailable to AI), but they are plagued with gay armor and without much build variety.
I recommend starting with Warrior because most AI/hero builds revolve around buffing him. The warrior is the heart of the general PvE team, and caster professions are usually reserved for AI because they depend less on PvE skills. With Warrior you also have access to my favorite PvE skill named “Save Yourselves” which grants +100 armor for your entire team as long as you can keep refilling your adrenaline.
One more tip? You can change secondary profession at any time later in the game, so don’t sweat it much. But use secondary profession skills only to compliment your primary profession, as you only have access to runes for your primary profession.

In GW1 I mained Imbagon, Warrior, and Ranger for SY spamming. But I especially loved my Imbagon!
I’ve already experienced Warrior to its fullest. So as a former Paragon main, now I’m wondering if Guardian is for me?
I like being able to protect, and I like being able to heal. Perhaps I’ll like hammer Guardian? What about its other options? And does anything recreate the feeling of spearchucking in GW1?
I’m mostly a dungeon player btw, and I like to spec for glassy offense.
So is guardian for me?
I for one welcome a revisit of the Karka event. It would be nice to add a stimulus of precursors on the market to balance out the prices a bit.
Honestly I would love to see ANET make a standalone game besides GW2. It doesn’t need to be an MMO (and I believe grouping takes away from the experience) but this super adventure box is so brilliant, I believe ANET could take the idea and run.
VERY disappointed at this trick. I wanted at least some prestige to the weapons as I work for them. I will NOT abuse this out of sheer principle!
I believe it should stay only as long as it is accomodated for for a single player mode.
The premise alone promotes exploring and going at our own pace, so groups don’t work in my opinion.
Personally I like Big Nose Ted’s sexy voice, and you should be ashamed for mocking him. May the Mursaat smite you!
I would like to see Palawa Joko as a dangerous ally to be honest. In my eyes he liberated Kourna from a ruthless military regime, and he restored life to the Desolation (oh how ironic.)
So I have a simple buff idea which will make Torch more useful as an Offhand:
Throw Torch
- Make into a blast finisher
Bonfire
- Reduce recharge to 15
In a metagame where Ranger is so poorly neglected, this change makes them into a walking fire field who between his 2 drakes and my change to Throw Torch can proc 9 Might at the start of the fight and 6 might every 15 seconds after.
I believe such a thing is needed for a profession with such a lack of might.
I think it’s april fools.
But seriously, what sigil should a zerker use on his longbow?
Hi. Let’s say I’m a zerker Warrior. My Greatsword uses Sigil of Fire. So what sigil/uprgade should I use for longbow for general purposes and dungeons?
Thanks!
It’s not too late to say “April Fools!” and make this a permanent addition.
Not only does this give incentive for players to participate in JPs (for continue coins) but this is something that players have been wanting for a long, long time as a “super” jumping puzzle.
Am I the only one disappointed we didn’t have Commandos with modern rifle and armor skins?
I would like For Great Justice to stop making sound effects every time it is used.
I love Nolan North’s sexy voice just as much as the next guy (his super sexy voice <3), but I would like a 75% chance not to hear the shout.
After 131 chests, this is how I feel like:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFlcqWQVVuUI FINALLY GOT MY TICKET!!!!!!!!!
Trick was to stop opening it on my Warrior and open it on my Ranger like my friend did. I am now superstitious enough to believe Rangers get better drops and chests have DR when opened on the same toon.
So was it worth it? HELL YEAH! (Though I do not advise anyone make the same mistake as me.)
As promised, my storage:
You need a maid, badly :P
I wish I could sell my black lion crap. Do they even do anything special?
What is a good way to get my money’s worth and, well… Use them? Which resources should I save them for?
Sickle= Omnoms + Truffles?
Axe= Ancient wood?
Pick= Orichalcum?
Any rich ori in the game?

Lupicus is fine if you consider he’s an endgame boss. I just want to not have to walk 2 minutes to retry him.
Make it permanent please. This is something JP lovers can finally have to satisfy them and it will settle complaints about no minigames. (Though the fact it requires a group can be a li problematic in the future.)
125 chests, and still no token.
I didn’t believe other people when they said they opened 100 chests, but now I do.
I’m planning to keep counting until I get my token and posting my reaction so that people know I’m not lying about this. Notice how originally I was optimistic? We can throw that out the window!
I agree. One of the dev posts awhile back said they were working on a fotm-like JP and it’s sad this is only temporary because it would make a great minigame.
Also, some people are still dedicating every minute of their time TRYING to beat the stupid chest rng and get fusion weapons. We have no time for Super Adventure Box if we’re stuck in the Chest RNG Box!
111 boxes, still no token.
I would blow it all on Black Lion Chests.
I want them to make it as close as possible to the original. Maybe some aesthetic upgrades, but when I go back to FoW and UW, I want it to look the same as it did years ago.
If we can go to the mists, I’m sure we can revisit the Underworld and Fissure of Woe.
However, I hope ANET tries to remake it as close as possible to the original. It could make great use of the Dynamic Event system.
Glad that people like these. We’ll do more in the future, perhaps.
… Perhaps?
ANET, I want you to read this comic:
http://nedroid.com/comics/2011-02-01-beartato-showdonttell.png
Show what happens. Don’t tell what happens.
While I’ll admit I’m one of the few people who likes the “dialogue” cutscenes, I believe they should be reserved for exposition. They have great potential for expository chapters, especially if you make extensive use of the art in the background. Let’s say for example Rytlock is telling the tragedy of Ascalon as he does in Ascalon Catacombs story. That made really great use of both the art and exposition for a “dialogue”-cutscene.
However for anything besides exposition, do not use it. Let’s use the Human’s “Lost Parents” storyline for example. If my character is overtaken with feelings of sadness after seeing his parents’ grave, he should visually bow down at his parents’ graves instead of standing there. And instead of simply talking, he and Logan should be moving around the remains of his original home as he tries to reminiscent about his true home.
(edited by Kain Francois.4328)
Well here’s the issue, and I hope ANET considers my feedback: Drop rates are so low that many have zero incentive whatsoever to spend real money on the gemstore. We don’t want to use real money for something we know we will lose in the first place.
Let’s put this in perspective: A number of players including myself report opening 100+ boxes. $10 gems= 800, but for the sake of convenience, let’s just round that up to 900 because players can convert gold to gems. So every $10 spent gives us 10 chests to open. Many players such as myself have spent more than $100 worth of gems without receiving a token.
While I understand RNG is RNG, it looks to me like this is too much RNG. After $100 worth of gems I have no incentive to spend money anymore.
0g.
I spent it all buying 106 Black Lion Chests and not getting a Fusion weapon.
Somehow though, I have a feeling the April 1st update will let us convert boosters to tickets. In which case, as a customer who has bought 100 chests worth of gems, I will be satisfied.
If I found someone exploiting something major in GW2 which has a big impact, which email should I mail to? The Skritthead needs to be stopped before he goes any further. Thanks.
95 black lion chests opened, nothing.
I tried to be optimistic, but I’m seriously starting to doubt Arenanet even plays their own game.
I actually have very harsh critique in game design for their “resident economist”, but I’ll restrain myself because this is an official forum post.
While it’s true RNG boxes makes ArenaNet profit, if they don’t clean up their act I’m sure the company will lose integrity. Ironically, what ArenaNet themselves are doing is Russian Roulette with their company’s reputation.
The gemstore is awesome. But Chest RNG is not.
43 chests so far, no ticket. I’m still motivated to keep trying though!
Does anyone know when this event ends? How long can we continue to gamble for Fusion weapons?
If you run dungeons a lot, do a Gilded Infusion. Especially if you CoF Speedfarm
I find magic find is not worth it unless stacked, and the fact it even exists and is actively pushed on new items as if the devs use it is a mockery to game balance. The only reason Magic Find should exist is to handicap teams who want a challenge. Otherwise, if the drops are so low that we need a stat to increase them, isn’t that an indicator the drops should not be so dang low in the first place?
