From personal observation, the average people obtain their token is on the 15th try (between 10 and 20.) This includes ingame observation and not just forums (though I believe I’m on my 20th try and still no token.)
However, the fact some open 100 chests and get no tokens leads me to believe it is bugged simply because there is such a huge disparity. I understand RNG is RNG, but I hope ANET double checks the system on the live server to make sure it is functioning properly.
About 15 chests here so far, nothing. Though, I get the feeling the RNG isn’t as bad as some people say it is.
I assume we have 2 months to go after the skins? If you open only a few chests each day, it doesn’t seem so bad.
this is how destroyer weapons should be looking like.
After been a fan of Destroyer weapons for so long since GW1, sadly I must agree. In GW1 the Lava flowed through the weapons and they looked REALLY cool! Whereas in GW2 most Lava-based weapons are stationary orange blobs. Titans’ Vengeance is an example of this, Destroyer weapons less so. At least Volcanus has flames.
Can anyone confirm please?
Tried 5 chests, didn’t get any so far. Across all my toons who didn’t progress in the story at all, I’m planning to farm 3/day using personal story and save up my cash till gem prices go back up.
The weapon skins will be here for a long time. Don’t waste your gold now.
So I was (actually bothering to) read the new privacy policy. These new lines have me concerned..

So what’s up with that? Just wondering.
One of the main things I miss from GW1 that I believe will drastically improve GW2 Ranger are on-demand interrupts and “shutdown” skills like Distracting Shot.
So why not adapt it for GW2? The key is to modify Concussion Shot of the shortbow:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Concussion_Shot
Currently it does this:
Daze your foe with an arrow. Stun them if you hit from behind or from the side.
Damage Damage: 118
Daze: 1 s
Stun: 1 s
Combo Finisher: Physical Projectile
Range: 1,200
My suggestion is to make it fire multiple shots at fast speeds both to serve as a Defiant chipper for your team, and to ensure a shutdown on an enemy:
Quickly daze your foe with a barrage of lightning fast arrows. Stun them if you hit from behind or from the side.
Damage Damage(5x): 518
Daze5: 1/2 s
Stun5: 1/2 s
Combo.png Combo Finisher: Physical Projectile
Range.png Range: 1,200
There are a few things to consider with my change to Concussion Shot. One is that the damage has been increased to make it worth using against dungeon bosses as opposed to 1-spamming. The other is the instant 2.5 seconds of Daze from Concussion Shot hitting multiple times.
This not only ensures Rangers are more useful against bosses, but also become powerful allies against a row of enemies to quickly shut them down while dealing sufficient damage.
Allowing it to hit multiple times and extending daze slightly is a change I believe will drastically give this skill more use.
I recently got mine as well, so I feel ya.
I wish the lava was animated, but the fiery effect and trail is absolutely beautiful!
Volcanus pride! Like Garchomp is better than Dialga, Volcanus beats Twilight! :P
dinominator.9862, what is this i dont even…
What is that abomination? WHAT HAS SCIENCE DONE!?!?
But in all seriousness, I think Krait are already GW’s version of mermaids.
Male charr with mermaid tail.
Male norn with mermaid tail.
LOL!?
I don’t think it will ever be a tonic…
The people so kitten about their infrastructure being mixed in a fantasy game obviously aren’t gamers in the first place. They’re not consumers, and shouldn’t matter when marketing GW2.
I would prefer context sensitive mounts such as Junundu in the Crystal Desert, or Devourers in the Blood Legion Homelands.
Well I made this thread so others could educate me. I’m looking for strategies and ideas which could actually make me a decent member of my team which isn’t better done by my alts.
My concern with Guild Missions are the fact it is time-gated content. I do not like having to wait for specific times and specific days to work towards my Ascended Jewelry and (as per’ the new Guild Missions page) new weapons bought with commendations.
Please let us simply work towards our goals at our own pace. Some like to do a bit each day, some like to grind it in one day. But please stop time-gated content in a game which already has every other piece of content being time-gated (Dungeon tokens, FoTM Dailies, DR, Laurels, etc…)
I disagree with Seras. Sylvari and the Nightmare Court already use Whips, and they’re quite deadly. We also have the Slave Driver in CoF who uses a flame whip.
I’m a big dungeon player. However, I feel very useless as a Ranger!
What exactly do we bring to the table? Besides Spirit of Frost (which, contrary to the tooltip, has no cooldown???), what should I contribute outside DPS?
I for one would love to see a Whip for rangers. We know for a fact they were considered to be in the game because Whips are used in the Sylvari personal story (WHY were they not a Sylvari elite instead of the useless druid!?) but they’re just too baddass not to use in a future update.
I will be very disappointed if Commandos do not return for April Fools with modern Rifle and Armor skins in the gemstore.
Honestly, I believe the EB Jumping Puzzle was made specifically to troll people.
It is said the gods went silent after the fall of Abaddon.
So let me get this straight.. She did nothing as a human, and did nothing as a god.
Well for Zhaitan, I would have loved it ArenaNet made use of his creative body.
We know for a fact Zhaitan’s body comprises of smaller dragons. So why not defeat the small appendages one by one?
Perhaps he could have grabbed onto the ship like a kraken-type monster with his tentacles, and poked his head up through the bow of the ship and you had to slay the individual dragon-tongues?
Perhaps Zhaitan could have succeeded destroying your ship but only after sustaining damage and being grounded. So the players and the Pact hop ontop of his actual body where you make your way to the head while combating the individual “limbs” of Zhaitan attacking you.
You should have been able to make your way to the head finally and destroyed it once and for it.
Zhaitan should have also been in the Personal Story rather than a Dungeon. The use of “Zelda”-style bosses with smart dodges would have been very good. See: Vexas’ Lab for solo-bosses done correct.
I understand she made a choice only a human could make, yadayadayada, but what exactly did she do as a god anyways? I honestly don’t see why anyone would worship her.
If there is ever a major content release, I will return and help people with this.
I’m still waiting on Elona: Beyond. Seeing the GW1 world develop alongside GW2 would be wonderful because we have a more concrete idea how the games will connect.
I’m curious too considering the patch will be so large.
Living story sounds a lot like they talked about in the manifesto to be honest. I’m excited!
Yes I would play in an Underwater Map. However, underwater maps are too glitchy at the moment. There’s too many places the devs neglect which allows the player to access out of bounds zones, areas with an “underwater sky”, warps to underwater the map, and areas with odd lighting.
I remember seeing somewhere npc dialogue about grawl refugees going to southsun cove.
Considering Karka came out of nowhere in the GW universe, it’s very possible ANET has ideas for them beyond Lost Shores.
Perhaps Grawl will worship Karka?
So guys, I keep hearing of refugee camps. Where are the new npcs and such for Flame and Frost anyways? I hadn’t participated in anything yet.
Something I’m wondering is why do spirit effects have 10s cooldown?
Banner of Discipline increases team damage by 10% AND increases crit rate! In comparison, Spirit of Frost, is only a 35% chance to increase damage, AND it can only activate ONCE every 10 seconds, AND it can die! (It’s also immobile unless traited.)
So is there a balance reason behind this, or did they just mess up spirit balance? Would they be worth using at all if they removed the cooldown?
While we’re at it, could you please re-enable jumping? Thanks!
So critical damage or condition for offense? (Rampager vs ruby?)
I would like to give input on current Ranger behavior: Players are using Everlasting Tonics to stow their pets in combat. While this is bound to be fix, I hope ANET pays attention to this because it signifies the lengths players go just to make our braindread Reef Drake go away.
As for the skills themselves, I would also like to praise the update to Path of Scars because it gives Axe Off-Hand a great source of damage.
However I would recommend if ANET truly wants to buff Axe Off-Hand without significantly modifying skills, my suggestion is to revamp Whirl Finishers for use with Whirling Defense. At the moment, any Whirl Finisher of any sort is too inaccurate to use in a group, and most of the effects do not justify using a Whirl attack. The only time my healing shots from Water Fields actually hit are when my team is stacked exactly ontop of my as with the Subject Alpha fight. Likewise, if I use Bonfire and swap to my Axe to Combo Whirl with it, all this does is Burn foes who would have already been burned from being in Bonfire anyways.
In short, buff whirl finishers to not make them so redundant. Make Healing Bolts actually touch my party, and make Fire Bolts do something other than burn because it’s redundant.
This is a neat idea, and I hope ANET experiments with it.
We all saw the popularity of Ash Kits. Turning them into a Ranger skill would not only make Rangers a useful ally for resurrecting, but also lead to all sorts of useful strategies in dungeons. One use I can imagine are the cannons in Dredge fractal.
Which maps are these going on? I wanna join the fun!
I do not want it to be nerfed, but we all know it’s going to be nerfed. I’m hoping ANET does not abolish other short dungeons like SE P1 though.
Which is better for a DPS ranger? Berserker or Rampager gear? I want to maximize my damage but hear crit dmg isn’t too good on Ranger because damage is divided? Should I invest in conditions?
Awhile ago I remember seeing a thread with a dragon rendered out of bounds in Straights of Devastation with screenshots. Can someone please link the thread for me? Thanks!
Well what should they be able to contribute to a dungeon team if buffed? What kind of mechanics?
So let’s say hypothetically we’re buffed. Greatsword and Longbow deal decent damage, Shortbow becomes more than 1-spam, Axe and Sword become decent 1H weapons and overall Ranger is buffed.
What should our role be in a team? A Warrior and Thief can sustain high damage burst (difference being one does more singletarget damage and permablinds+stealths whereas one does a little less damage but AoE and buffs) and a Mesmer has portal utility and timewarp. An elementalist is good again structures and heals, Guardian has heals, reflect, protection, and immobilize, even Engineer has vuln stacks and 100nades burst!
The only class who’s role doesn’t pop right away into my head is Necromancer, but that’s another debate for another time.
What role does a Ranger serve for a team other than being a portable water field?
Just a little note here: Mordemoth IS related to stone because that is the exact attack Subject Alpha uses.
Hi. I’m looking for a CoF Speedfarming guild. I have a fully geared Zerker Warrior and Zerker Thief for these runs, and I am currently leveling a mesmer.
I am experienced in CoF Speedfarming, and I am looking for a guild I can farm with for potentially hours straight.
Please PM me ingame. Thank you!
Assuming Norn have the manpart and girlpart in the first place, logically they should be able to do it with a human, but probably not be able to reproduce.
At least, Human Men can do it with Female Norn. Come on, how many people in this thread want to Snoo-Snoo with Eir?
Hey guys. I’m trying to find a blue/white backpack to transmute my Engineer backpack to my Warrior.
I heard the only non-soulbound white/blue backpack in the entire game was the Quaggan backpack. But is the backpack before equipping it soulbound or account bound?
I’m a little confused by the commendation system. We can only get 2 commendations from each guild mission type per week? That means each week a guild will only do 1 of each mission type? This is very difficult if we do not share schedules or we are not organized…
Also, how does the 1week timer work? Does it reset on monday or do I have to memorize when I slay a bounty?
I’M CONFUSED AND I WANT MY ASCENDED ACCESSORIES! Q-Q
So I just realized something potentially major for GW2.
What if the Jade Wind in Cantha was caused by an elder dragon? I don’t recall Abaddon ever having petrification powers, and before Shiro was an envoy he was just a really powerful bodyguard.
If you look carefully, you can decode various cryptic messages throughout the game to mention the land “Unwaking”. One of these references is in the Facet quest line in GW1, and another is the encrypted book in the Durmand Priory. Furthermore, in the Sylvari storyine is an NPC who references a “distant shore”, “land of Unwaking” a “cave”.
When I hear Unwaking, I think of Unwaking waters in GW1. Here is the description:
The site of Cantha’s most infamous murder, the Harvest Temple in which Emperor Angsiyan was struck down by the treacherous Shiro Tagachi still stands. It is the geographic epicenter of the Jade Wind; a place of fear, danger, and bitter memories. Here the mighty dragon Kuunavang still lurks in the caverns beneath the temple, utterly corrupted by the proximity of Shiro’s death wail.
— In-game description
From this description we know there is a cave with a Dragon Champion (Kuunavang) who guards it. We also know it is the center of which the Jade Wind originates. Furthermore, it is where the DRAGON emperor goes to perform his ritual!
While the harvest ceremony is in worship of Dwayna, I believe they may in fact be mistaking an Elder Dragon for Dwayna. Considering the fact many mistook Glint to be a creation of the Gods, it is possible they are unintentionally worshiping Mordemoth.
I find it just too coincidental that there are references to a land ‘Unwaking" and the fact a Dragon Champion is guarding something. It’s also too coincidental the Jade Wind originated from the same place which Kuunavang guards, spreading a corruption very similar to Kralkatorik’s glass petrification.
What we have seen common with all Elder Dragons (including Zhaitan) is they corrupt the land they roam around. Whereas Zhaitan creates undeath in nature, Kralkatorik melts the land into glass, Jormag has his corrupted ice, and Primordus manipulates molten lava, Mordremoth possibly turns thing into stone!
I also found it very notable we have a mandatory Jade Sea fractal with Jade Elementals, considering we never had Jade Elementals in GW1. Are they the equivalent of Jormag’s Icebrood Elemental?
I also found it suspicious each successor of the Dragon Empire (Including Master Togo) is capable of using Dragon Empire Rage – A powerful spell capable of wiping out armies!
According to the GW1 wiki, Shiro Tagachi stole the powers of the Emperor when he was killed, and the power of “Dwayna” augmented the Jade Wind. But was it really Dwayna? Or was it an Elder Dragon?
Anyways, discuss your thoughts. Does the Harvest Temple hide an elder dragon?
(edited by Kain Francois.4328)
I believe the flaw to be the personal story more than the overall tone and style. GW2 is plenty capable of being dark and serious, but the personal story simply missed a lot of potential.
Thanks Zygil.1276. That was exactly the kind of information I needed! (Who knew Warriors could give allies AEGIS!?)
Any more helpful info is appreciated. Thanks!
Well I have no problems staying alive and dealing damage. The problem I’m having is I feel too much like a DPS machine and less like a team player besides Battle Standard and FGJ.
In the case of Imbued Flame Shaman, I had to switch to Thief for Smokescreen because as a Warrior I wasn’t able to contribute anything useful other than boosting damage.
So what more can I do?
