Was anyone else bothered by Ceara apparently being behind Steam Creatures? I thought they were invented by the alternate Infinity Ball creator.

Please tell me she just made her own Steam Creatures based on the original design because that… no. Just no.

Who says she is behind the steam creatures instead of simply trying to build one herself after learning of them?

The only thing we saw in Labyrinthine Cliffs were loads of shady deals and evidence of suspicious cargo. The conversations involving Carden and Parker Cole.

The guy wandering around and getting denied by all the merchants was there the first time the Bazaar was around. Whats more interesting about him is how the one Asura (IIRC) mentioned that she “Knew where he got that from, and didn’t want to get involved with those people.” What did he have, and who did he take it from?

btw. i am a commoner and Belinda was normal around me, does her approach to you change if you are a noble? Kasmeer mentioned that she is shy around her, possibly because of her noble status.

She does change her dialouge.

You can mention wanting to meet her family and she replies with “Maybe, it’s nothing personal but my mother is holding onto a very old grudge against nobles.”

After that she mentions that She (belinda) is fine with you, and Marjory had told her about you killing Zhaitan and being commander of the pact. You then reply with “I haven’t been actively commanding the Pact for some time now.” which is interesting, basically (to me) saying the commander went on vacation/leave, and then had to deal with Scarlet :P.

Where in the world is Destiny's Edge?

in Lore

Posted by: Kalavier.1097

Kalavier.1097

In actual lore reasons, because Destiny’s Edge have JOBS.

Rytlock and Logan for example, are high ranking in their military structures (Logan implied to basically be the top head of the Seraph entirely). They can’t just run off freely.

Eir and Caithe have more freedom, but Eir is an elder among the Norn, she likely spends much of her time giving tips to new heroes.

Zojja… is Zojja.

Though in the dialogue, you actually have the player (at least mine did) mention they “Haven’t been actively commanding the pact for some time now.” Meaning likely with Zhaitans defeat, Destiny’s Edge + player character went on ‘vacation’ or back to their normal lives until the next dragon campaign starts up.

I have a general idea about what he’s talking about. I researched a lot of the lore, so he’s pretty much just calling us traitors because the Charr we’re at war with humans in the first one whereas now they kind of get along.

Even though both Kryta and the Charr went through serious leadership changes….

But hey, he likes the madman Adelbern who was willing to, and DID, watch his nation die. Infact the only surviving ascalonians today are either A: those who left with Rurik (traitors), or B: those he exiled to Ebonhawke (Ebon Vanguard and a huge number of civilians who spoke out against him, or joined them for fear of the king)

I’m starting to think you sound suspiciously a lot like a Charr-loving sympathizer.

I’m starting to think you’re sounding a lot less like someone who wants to reclaim a homeland and more like someone who wouldn’t be satisfied until all charr were wiped out.

What you pictured happening in your post? Isn’t going to happen. King Adelbern is not a trustworthy ally, the charr have locational advantage in a war trying to invade Ascalon, and Ebonhawke isn’t suited for an offensive campaign.

Short of both asura and norn deciding to support such an effort? It’s not going to happen. Given either race don’t have much of an interest in the proposal? Give it a few generations, then talk about it again.

Yeah, as I said, the only way for humanity to stand a chance is to take everything south of the wall in a blitz campaign, taking out charr camps and settlements below the wall so quickly a call can’t be raised. But Black Citadel throws a serious knot in that plan (with the wall at smokestead… and how the Heros canton can basically become a fort/fire base with zero effort), as well as some other areas.

Disregarding the brand though, which would ruin any army movements and slow it down drastically. Either slow it down or gut it as they rush.

Simply put, west of the brand the Charr could mobilize a crushing counter attack once they got wind of it.

Or I understand somebody like Rytlock is not going to be easy to kill unless you are a dragon or a giant.

One does not have to be a dragon or a giant to kill one Charr (unless game mechanics turn him into a Legendary). Rytlock is a big bulky Charr, they always were rather easy to kill.

Not always. And Rytlock is a very skilled adventurer, alongside being a skilled and experienced Charr warrior and tribune. He also wears what is surely high quality heavy armor and wields a powerful blade.

Simply going “HEY LET’S KILL RYTLOCK, IT’LL BE EASY!” Is like saying a human can walk up and kill Knut Whitebear no problem.

My point was unless you are a giant or a dragon, I don’t see it being an easy fight to take Rytlock out.

Nope. Because a Gw1 character can be Canthan or Elonian. Thus you entire point is false.

Tobias, your entire reasoning is based on the massive assumption that I didn’t fully support with Adelbern to begin with, from day 1.

You support a madman willing to see his entire nation die rather then ask for help and have hope? A man who banished people because they spoke out against him (and that’s it). A man who literally on the day the Ebon Vanguard left to go south, had dozens of families pack up and leave, and only two options were given for it. “Pride of the unit” or “Fear of the king” and it’s implied to purely be the latter.

Get off your moral trip and humor me for one minute; You go to AC with a party of human characters, all direct descendants of people from Pre-Searing, meet with your ancestral King and say “Hey Lord Adelbern, we are here to bring back Ascalon, and destroy the Charr, what do you need done?!”

A: Adelbern would see humans, not Ascalonians. I doubt he could just look at you are be able to figure it out.
B: Implies he reforms and is at all reasonable given his sword is now gone and there is a priory camp inside the catacombs. Note he openly attacked the two Ascalonian’s in “Ghosts of Ascalon” and in order to Reach him (or draw him out), they’d basically have to slaughter their way through the ghosts.
From there all you have to do is unify and rally Ebonhawke, which would be EASY since at least half the population are Seperatists!! The ghosts of Ascalon, which at the very least almost number 2/3rds of the Charr. Krytan Ex-Pats under your own leadership(Because Logan is a weak piece of kitten who kittens to that slag Jennah and doesn’t think for himself or the people who bore him). Then you have all the Champions of Old Ascalon! Oh the glory!
Proof seperatists = half of Ebonhawke’s population? I never even got that indication.

I also doubt the ghosts are equal to 2/3rds of the charr population, given their numbers are entirely stagnant and were outnumbered back then.
Also, nothing implies Logan grew up in Ebonhawke instead of Kryta. Infact given how his brotherjoined the Seraph when Logan was a kid, it implies he lived in Kryta first.

And hell, murder Rytlock, it would be so easy! With Ruricks sword in hand AND Ascalon blood, you are legitimized to lead the living detachment of the combined army, after all that’s how Adelbern became king.

YES, because it’d be so easy to murder Rytlock Brimstone, TRIBUNE of the blood legion, member of the Edge of Destiny, wielder of an ancient blade which is one of few that can actually cut dragon scales…

Also kittening MAGIC guys, Magic! The foefire, the Searing, all that kitten was magic. Implying you actually need manpower to destroy your enemies.

Foefire happened once. It also ruined the ‘manpower’ as almost all of them are stuck ‘repeating’ the same moments (in their minds at least), if not are mindless in attacking the living. Also the fact both blades which could stop or possibly cause it again are kinda not in human hands at all.

Also the whole question of this thread is “Would you fight to reclaim Ascalon?”

Not “would you fight in a sure-thing winnable land war that you can plan meticulously on this thread and never have to worry about the possibility of utter annihilation?”

But I guess the OP was vague about who you’d be fighting for to “reclaim” Ascalon.

It’s a what if situation. What’s wrong in actually talking about the details of the what if and having an intelligent discussion about it?

Hell, if they investigated and found that out, WHY would they be investigating the queen’s relationships? And even if they were for some reason doing that, BOTH of them (Anise and Jennah) are powerful mesmers who can read minds. That basically means if they want something a secret, nobody would figure it out.

That may well be, but Arenanet has been known to move the Lore direct in a way to suit their needs. A Logan and Kiel partnership will allow Logan the only respected and recognised male human NPC to be significantly relevant as a co-driver of the Humanity aspect of GW2 Lore.

To me his relationship with HRH Jennah does not work. Does nothing for the progression of the Lore. The fact that they can’t be seen together and do not have any scenes together in the Living Story (beyond maybe Queen’s Jubilee) content thus far to me is a proof of this. As a guardian by trade as well as a Seraph Captain and member of Destiny’s Edge he is a very under used character.

To me with Logan and Braham as glaring examples its clear that Arenanet has great difficultly for reasons that to me are a mystery in portraying believable, likeable, respectiable human/norn male main NPC characters.

They aren’t seen as much together (by players) because… their jobs.

Jennah is a queen, she rarely would just wander around. Logan is the leader of the Seraph, and part of Destiny’s Edge (and was told by Jennah basically to go out in the world instead of hover over her) He’d be in his office or on the field more.

I fail to see how Braham or Logan aren’t believable. and I like both of them just fine. I also respect Logan. Braham as well, but they both have their own traits.

I would much rather all the races have access to all the classes than not. Games that try to tie lore into class/race choices are annoying in video games. I just want to play how I want to play. That includes all class/race combos being available. LOTRO kills me with some of their decisions regarding this. Some of their classes are so paper thin in regards to lore, yet they still limit some of them to only a race or two even being able to play them which is a shame.

Or like WoW. If GW did that, they’d basically have to rewrite some of the classes to try to limit them. Because ALL npcs in Gw1 used profession skills, so you had charr eles, mesmers, monks, etc.

edit: And most of the time those systems end up being partly race/class, partly alliance or such. And multi faction games tend to suck (Like WoW again), in trying to keep the conflict as a main part but having a universal big bad :P.

Also, there’s zero evidence that he murdered that ambassador, nor(before someone says it) Evennia either.

Of course not, at the time of when Adelbern called down the flame, Evennia was currently alive and well and sipping fruit-flavored drinks with little umbrellas in them with Jurah somewhere on a beach in Istan.

Yeaaah I’m with Tobias here, given our knowledge of Adelbern’s increasingly addled brain combined with the lack of Rurik to stop him, I think it’s very likely he at least did something with Evennia.

Did . . . something? Or did nothing?

These are the hard-hitting questions for which ANet has no answers. What’s there to hide? Huh? What’s there to hide?

Boils down to basically either Adelbern personally murdered/imprisoned Evennia (murdered by treason charge basically. or he stabbed her), or she was killed or captured by something else while she was waiting outside of Ascalon city or when she tried returning to Kryta. Charr, bandits, Stone Summit remnants, who knows.

Was Snaff an elementalist or mesmer?

in Asura

Posted by: Kalavier.1097

Mesmers are a magic user explicitly stated they can push themselves and do INSANE things, at serious cost.

The mesmer in the Ebon Falcons summoned an illusion the size of the eye of the north (whether it was an illusion of the eye, or simply a mountain, I forget), but it blinded her for a long while. Her death(founding of Ebonhawke timeframe) was because she summoned and maintained an entire army of illusions, and it literally stripped her of her life force(and again, blinded her).

It’s unclear if other magic classes have similar feats (of doing something insane at great price), but mesmers have it laid out.

Snaff could’ve had a serious price for his mind wrestling, though IIRC that was possible ONLY because of the power core imbued laurel that Glint slammed onto Kralk’s head and embedded the gems into his scales.

Kalavier.1097

Now now Kav, let’s not make silly assumptions. Ascalon didn’t doom itself, The Charr and Titans did through Abaddon resources. If you go back far enough you could legitimately argue the 5 gods themselves doomed Ascalon when they both transplanted the humans there, and royally kittened off Abaddon enough to get back at them by trying to destroy humanity. There wasn’t a nation alive back then that could have withstood Searing magic. If they had all followed Rurik, there wouldn’t even be an Ebon Vanguard or Ebonhawke for that matter. Don’t forget Adelbern’s Foefire vaporized 99% of the Charr in the Ascalon Basin at that time. And like I’ve said before, White Mantle(Krytan) aid back then would have been at the price of slavery for Ascalon(whether Adelbern knew that or not is irrelevant). Also, there’s zero evidence that he murdered that ambassador, nor(before someone says it) Evennia either.

A: I never said they’d prevent the searing. I’m talking post-searing.
B: I’m saying if Rurik was king, he’d accept the aid from the white mantle, which could have changed things drastically.
C: No evidence that they’d be ‘enslaved’ by the White mantle. Or that the white mantle would go after them much. Do recall they basically left Ascalon settlement entirely alone until the Krytan Civil war.
D: He didn’t murder the ambassador we met early in proph. RURIK stopped that one. Evannia however, was barred from Ascalon City, and her last time seen EVER was outside the city waiting for Adelbern to see her. Then she disappeared. Given how LAST time a Krytan ambassador was standing outside the City offering Aid, and Adelbern went after the man to arrest and make him stand trial for TREASON (Likely a death penality)… and ONLY Rurik stopped that, I fail to see how it’s NOT the most reasonable assumption that Adelbern murdered Evennia.

Basically, had Rurik been in charge post searing (or maybe even Barriden), Ascalon likely would’ve gotten aid, even if it was just food and medicine.

And that would’ve changed the prospects. Hell, in the Civil War Kryta basically sent Evennia there with a message of “Let the EbonVanguard aid us, and we will provide support to Ascalon, INCLUDING MILITARY AID.”

Because Zhaitan was sleeping and thus wasn’t doing anything besides leaking magic?

And Zhaitan’s power is corruption, decay, and undeath. Not resurrection.

Risen are undead which can also fall under the term resurrected corpse or even the souls of the kings and queens to be resurrected as eyes of zhaitan, i don’t believe dhuum would agree with that

And i would hope the gods arent as killable as zhaitan was… Sitting on a mountain letting u kill it instead of gliding and shredding the rest of the airship

Ellen Kiel and Logan Thackeray should get together on many levels. Both professionally and on a romantically (- after being brought up to speed by Marjory and Kasmeer that HRH Jennah and Countess Anise are lovers, and have been for quite some time). Logan and Marjory with the support of the PC(since the PC is the leader of the second group) need to work to merge the two groups of adventurers together to co-ordinate their activities and share resources – while operationally function as separate units.

Only, Anise and Jennah aren’t lovers and there pretty much is no information to support such a claim.

Also why would Marjory and Kasmeer know that (if it was even true), and Logan be clueless? Why would EVERYBODY know Jennah and Logan are basically a couple (even if they aren’t publicly cause Royality and Commoner basically) if Kasmeer and Marjory know that?

Ever since Abaddon was killed (FOREVER, likely most of his demons was as well), their last physical thing keeping them around was severed.

Also, there is literally a ghost in queensdale who tells you is clear words that “Grenth answered her request and let her watch over the family, and their farm, while the family sleeps.” She isn’t there as a haunting or unfinished business as many other spirits are (or traumatic death), she’s there because she wants to be and grenth allowed it.

Are our gods coming back soon?

Go to vigil keep. They have catapults there too.

And arrow carts, and ballistas(In a charr personal story to defend Vigil Keep, you have arrowcarts alongside cannons and such). Catapults are easier to maintain, and arm then cannons. Also, have you seen Shaemoor garrison? The walls are pretty advanced.

Also, the Seraph are doing decently against the Centaurs. It’s a back and forth war, but the main ‘heartlands’ of Kryta are mostly secure.

The vigil uses them because they are easy to maintain, that is true.
But, if necessary, the Vigil has access to much more advanced weaponry. Especially now the Pact has been formed. Humanity doesn’t seem to have this option, as catapults/trebuchets are all they have.

Though I will agree the walls of shaemoor garrison are a nice piece of engineering.

Okay, it fubared and didn’t do my post so I’m sad.

BUT, I wanna say Kryta isn’t nearly as bad off as implied. Their enemies are mainly centaurs ATM, and they use catapults and such. They aren’t facing something like the Charr army which would make catapults for defense not work that well.

Also, if we take all the heart complete dialogue (assuming all hearts done in Kryta), as well as certain event chains as done and won (Mainly ones dealing with killing warchiefs or other leadership)… the Centaur war is much smaller now then it was at start of personal story. Still going on and back and forth, but not as bad.

Kryta starts personal story off on shaky grounds, but by time of Zhaitan defeated, it’s much more secure. The centaur war is going better, and with Cauducus living with Jennah since his Manor was ‘raided’, he hasn’t been able to stir up as much trouble with the bandits.

That’s the problem with the ‘set in time’ dialogue and zones. Much of the ministry dialogue in DR is set at start of personal story when the centaur war was (likely) at it’s worst. Now the centaurs aren’t as huge a threat.
