i cant see why you are bringing this up while trying to use both axe and focus in a meele scenario. 600 range and 1200 range is not meele…… logic
The Main attack, Ghastly Claws, gets interrupted from LoS simply by running through the Necromancer while they channel, and goes on full cool down. this can be hard to use in close combat, leaving you pretty much defenseless since that your main LF generation from Axe. Again strong weakness, with little defense if you counter this one skill in close combat.
step back out of meele. theres your problem…, use reapers touch when they get close to you to put on some counter pressure, axe 3 boon rip and cripple them (it helps when peeling from a fight), then do whatever. dont use axe 2 unless you have the space to use it (engaging, kiting or chasing) saying that it is weak because you cant land hits while in meele with them is just stupid to even mention. its not tailored for being in someones face. dont use it like dagger/warhorn. use it as burst along with DS
Reaper’s Touch need better self defense. The Regen is far too weak, and should get some other element to this. Maybe a small self heal along with a condition transfer. Whatever done to this, it needs more stronger defense if its going to keep its cooldown.
regen i agree with you there, but regen is regen its weak for everyone (the boon). as for a condition transfer. dagger already has this, aswell as a blind.
Spinal Shivers should get some sort of small stun or interrupt for this. this skill needs defense element. Chill just doesnt cut it. the cast time need to be reduced. 3/4th is good enough. No way is this currently worth its use.
chilling someone who just had stab swiftness and whatever else ripped may aswell be rendered imobile. i wouldnt say -66% movement is weak or anything (pre movement skill buff or nerf) spinal shivers is one of, if not, a power necros strongest skill close to corrupt boon. too bad its in the form of a trait. i can see the focus needing some love. instant cast and interupt?
My opinion, these power weapons need more defense.
imo Even better.. if its for WvW drop the clunky focus, run offhand dagger. Take the blind and weakness and learn what telegraphed skills to blind and what condis to transfer back. take quickening thirst too since the new bloodmagic rework. the movement speed is a god send. its what i have used along with staff since the stability changes. (axe/dagger, staff) and find it to work alot more fluently.
as others know and have said. Robert Gee has mentioned axe and scepter.
note in close quarters can mean a capture point fight in SpvP when range is not a option, but Dagger main hand is on cooldown from swap. Ghastly Claws is your only option for fast LF generation in that situation and is the best burst damage attack there is, which is important in SPvP. While fighting in a capture point and switching to Axe, all the target has to do is Teleport to the other side of Necro to null the use of this skill or do the normal interrupt skills as well. Making the weapon pretty much useless until Weapon Swap is back off cooldown to go back to Dagger, which is a long time in SPvP when burst damage is coming from every location, and you low on LF.
Focus doesnt help out much here as well, because it has no real defensive elements. the Regen is too weak, and Chill is far too weak on most classes. a Single Target Chill is useless against a Ele. Thief is immune to Chill in every way of the function. Mesmers and Chill,,, I can go on,,, A single target short duration chill on Focus is not good defense, especially in close quarters combat such as Capture points. The cast times are far too long. Nothing about Focus can beat out the utility that Warhorn provides. It actually generates Life Force and cripples as well and interrupts targets and locking them out of skill use. Thats way better defense than Focus. The cooldowns and long cast times counter the positive elements of Focus.
And yes I know Dagger is the primary melee range weapon, but that shouldnt make Axe useless in close combat simple from all the ways enemies can get behind you or “In you”
Unholy Feast’s retaliation just isnt as good with a class that lacks much in self defense other than inside a Shroud….
A little something interesting to take notice of about Forge.
The Forge Hammer attacks comes with a Rocket Attachment on the hammer when he uses a Hammer skill.
In slow motion during the HoT Trailer you can see a Rocket Attachment on the Hammer to provide the force needed for the Engi’s Hammer damage when the Forge use his Hammer Skills and it is also where the flame animation is coming from.
Seriously Anet? Rocket hammer,,,, come on,, they clearly modeled these Elite Specializations after Super Heroes,,,,
Rocket Hammer is clearly Steel from DC Comics…
Elaborate please. What happens during these encounters that is causing you to ask this question? Their rotation? Their damage? Their burst? Or just the fact they appear out of nowhere and KABOOM!
Hard to keep up with since they stealth and full of clones, and mass aoe Shatter damage burst.
two mesmers on a single point can deal major burst damage while avoiding damage from stealth and clones.
Deflecting Shot
I really dont like the way this skill works.. I prefer a replacement.
I cant take it any more. I like having another power main hand and off hand, but man these weapon skills need buff ,and some even revamp.
Axe is a Poor weapon for Close quarters fighting….
I cant stress that enough.
Please buff this by removing this interruption, or reduce the interruption cooldown.
I say Rending Claws should get some kind of positive bonus such as a baseline life steal element to the auto attack.
Unholy Feast, please remove the Retaliation and replace with some kind of self heal based on number of boons on enemies. The cast time on this need to be reduced by half, otherwise. Even increasing the number of boon conversions would be a great addition.
Reaper’s Touch need better self defense. The Regen is far too weak, and should get some other element to this. Maybe a small self heal along with a condition transfer. Whatever done to this, it needs more stronger defense if its going to keep its cooldown.
Spinal Shivers should get some sort of small stun or interrupt for this. this skill needs defense element. Chill just doesnt cut it. the cast time need to be reduced. 3/4th is good enough. No way is this currently worth its use.
My opinion, these power weapons need more defense. Necro lacks a lot of that, but this sure needs it. The cast times on some of these are far too long for their cooldown.
Also the interrupt on close combat from Ghastly Claws is a killer…
but thats just my opinion.
Unnerf Unyielding Anguish! Anet Unnerf it!!!!
Is that it’s a psychological one.
Taunt is no better than a stun, but there’s something insanely infuriating about seeing your character attack back when you’re screaming “NO. HEAL YOU STUPID kitten!”
thats the same as when somebody gets Feared and saying same thing. So dont see a need to nerf it.
How to counter Stealth Shatter Mesmers?
I am so kittened that this got nerfed….
WTF!!! Unyielding Anguish nerfed!!
Man this making me not want to spend points in anything other than Herald even more now…
Man this class as a whole is a joke,,, come on… these legend are terrible besides Herald…
Champion Mist Walker
I’m guessing they might be able to be slotted into any Legend, which could be pretty convenient to replace some of the less useful Legend skills…
The problem is that they are balanced around having 1 skill bar and not 2 for the right half of your bar. They are also not made with energy in mind and would need to be changed to work with revenant, but would muddy the purity of each legends skill set playstyle. I thought I had mentioned it before on one of the initial streams, but racial skills won’t be usable on revenant.
I dont see why they just didnt give us weaker Racial Legend to handle Racials. They can be weak skills like all other racials in the game, but be set up as a Legend of its own. Something people use in fluff.
Hey anybody else who plan to level up their Revenant using ToK, also plan to use first set of Hero Points on Herald Elite Specialization and rest on core traits and legends?
Herald just felt like the best legend of them all. Best traits best everything. Way worth the sacrifice of spending points there vs putting the first points into Core stuff.
Also note that Anet saved Engie and Ranger for last, both happen to been the first Elite Specialization shown in actual gameplay footage unlike other Elite Specialization. Druid is the last, and happen to been the first Elite Specialization we knew by name as well as had a video of it in action.
This means nothing, because we saw the chronomancer in the trailer too and it was the first elite spec which were getting revealed.
Oh yeah true. Forgot about that.
Azumi… You say lack of variety in builds, but there’s no one holding a gun to anyone’s head telling them to run zerker builds… as far as I know anyway.
Also, where’d you pull that 90% figure from? Thin air or do you have access to Anet’s metric data system?? HMMM? Oh, you don’t. You made it up. Got it. So, just going to disregard the rest of your comment since you pulled all that from the same place you made up some random number about the builds the “playerbase” is using.
In Trinity games, each role is important, so the player builds around that role which they plan to play in the group.
In GW2 since the only role is DPS, there is no benefit to building around anything other than The Most DPS aka Berserker.
There is currently no reason to stack Healing Power or Toughness in Dungeons and group PvE. Players build around the roles they play. Simple as that. And when your game has only one group role, dont act surprised when everybody builds around that one single role.
Also note that Anet saved Engie and Ranger for last, both happen to been the first Elite Specialization shown in actual gameplay footage unlike other Elite Specialization. Druid is the last, and happen to been the first Elite Specialization we knew by name as well as had a video of it in action.
Where is the thread on Forge Teaser today? Wasnt for Reddit post, many would never known.
Once again no teaser for new elite specialization. Smh
another long gap between reveal like it was after Reaper…
Hero points needed for new elite specs?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

@ Fox — I think you get a skill point each ‘level’ you get after 80 — also, I believe we would need to go out into the world and do the ‘Hero Challenges’ (old skill point challenges) in each zone to get the needed Hero Points.
no Levels after 80 no longer give hero points as they are now called. you get enough for core from 1-80 and rest from challenges.
Complaint: Match Ready pop up blocks my mouse from clicking on anything. Can use mouse with any of the UI until it goes away.
Please fix this.
Suggestion: Hero Point icon changed back to the old Skill Point icon that was blue.
They were easier to see on the map.
Especially now that we have to grind hero points on the map to unlock Elite Specs fully, this would be helpful.
Why you all didnt make Blooms Tokens

170 for all skills and traits.
Hi whats some needed changes to Focus?
honestly I say to you Rangers, to be patient and wait for the HoT changes. Druid likely will make Rangers useful in Raids in HoT as well as WvW. just wait.
Hey there, whats the point of taking Blood Magic-Blood bond? How do you plan to apply 4 bleeds ?
I assume from fighting a condition enemy and using sig.
I like Axe Main hand now. Just need Axe 3 to get a buff in effectiveness and maybe added a little group support to it along with current effect.
Now the off hands other than WH need buff.
Cant put my finger on it, but I get that strange feeling a nerf is coming in that new balance patch for SPvP…
Anybody else intuition kicking in regarding that?
Get the feeling Eles wont be the only class getting a blunt smack from Nerf Bat. We will be joining them.
:-/
I dont know if my build is working correctly, or if some kind of bug is in play right now.
use Tomes of Knowledge from SPvP to quickly get to high level.
I want a future house building feature that allows us to build walls and floors to make our own designs thats separate from Guilds and for personal use.
Something similar to Rift’s dimensions would be great feature here. Great new way for Horizontal Progression.
gaining new parts for building your instanced home.
note: no way am I suggesting any open world housing. That never works out well in populated MMOs.
I dont see how Pet cant be replaced by the main elements of Aspects.
All pet skills would go into Aspect enhancements.
All pet controls replaced with aspect passives and actives.
Weapon Skills replace F2. Each weapon’s 5 skill is the new F2 skill.
Yeah, if Druid turns out to be a lame healer class you won’t see many playing it.
people forget about Raid dungeons requiring new roles to be more stronger to be successful.
Support heavy Druid Elite Spec can be very powerful for Raid groups.
New skills are Orders, or short lasting auras which basically sacrifice large amounts of the Necro’s HP, put Conditions on the Necro, and generate LF every time they’re used. Orders buff allies around them via a myriad of ways with stuff like Life Steal, Healing, Regeneration, Condition transfer, flat damage buffs, Fury, Might, etc. you name it. Basically, imagine blood invigorating/cleansing buffs or making party members (or minions) temporary “vampires”.
Order Skills:
Order of Invigoration – Heal skill – Damage and inflict Weakness on self. Generate LF. Heal yourself and allies around you and grant them Vigor and Regeneration.
Order of Pain – Utility – Damage and inflict Bleeding on self. Generate LF. Allies inflict Bleeding and Torment whenever they use a damaging skill against an enemy.
Order of the Vampire – Utility – Damage and inflict Vulnerability on self. Generate LF. Grants Might to allies and make their attacks siphon life.
Order of Apostasy – Utility – Damage and inflict Poison on self. Generate LF. Allies transfer Conditions on them to enemies they attack.
Order of Madness – Utility – Damage and inflict Confusion on self. Generate LF. Grant Fury to allies and increase their Power and Condition damage by X amount.
Order of Undeath – Elite – Damage and inflict Torment on self. Generate lots of LF. Bind (visual cue similar to that of Tainted Shackles) nearby allies. Affected allies transfer ALL damage they take to you for 4 seconds as long they are within your aura’s radius. The Necro also heals for X% of the transferred damage. (The Necro gets damaged and healed by the skill at the same time. So the skill isn’t a suicidal skill but it will still damage you and will work VERY well with the Shroud 5 skill, Dark Bond. Also, the healing is obviously reduced if the Necro is suffering from Poison so there’s a lot of counterplay for this probably gamebreaking skill.)
Note: Aside from the elite, the Conditions inflicted on self are based on the theme of the Order skill. However, for Order of Undeath, Torment is applied to sort-of limit the Necro’s movement when absorbing the damage from his allies while the Necro is following them around.
that wont work without healing classes and major form of healing in the game.
whats some great PvP Reaper Bunker builds?
Any new additions to Inventory for HoT?
My bags are filling up…. My Bank is full…
Can we get some more inventory or additional features for storing items?
Like Toys/Tonics-
Environmental weapons-
Crafting Mats that arent already in the collection-
Anyone else disappointed with the lack of information for our specs? It’s funny to see that we are so late in the game since Anet really made a point about “druids” and had an engi shown off in the HoT release trailer.
I want to be able to test our specialization balances as much as any other profession does…it’s a shame we get so little time to express our feedback on each balance and make sure the developers have enough time to test and fix the changes!
Here’s to more info next week! Anet please, make it happen!
They saving best for last.
Engine Forge == Engineer + Necro
Druid Ranger == Ranger + Elementalist
that druid will truly be elite, because we see how strong Eles are. Anything crossed with just a tiny bit of their OPness is likely to be epic.
Forge on the other hand getting minions after the minion update could be beastly actually.
Anyone NOT planning on using the new specs??

For raids they likely designed around.
Raids usually have strong trash mobs, which likely wont function as trash mobs in current dungeons behave in which they reset their aggro when players move too far.
these trash mobs will need toughness builds to round them up to be AoEed down.
Guardian Dragon Hunter is perfect for this since they provide a nice block and a nice AoE damage heal, and can apply some major AoE CC/Damage traps for keeping trash mobs in a certain location and using Wards to keep them there longer to be burned down.
Tempest can keep this trash tank squad alive with their powerful Shout heal which heals allies just as much as it self heal. So that basically gives the team, two heals to tank a strong hit.
Revenant healing from Tablet and Herald will also make great heals as well as off tank for reviving downed tanks and also doing some passive protection as well. Also Dwarf can provide taunts for drop in mobs to be picked up by the three tanks in the group.
warrior Berserker provides great fire fields as well as strong CC for defiance bar break downs.
Reapers are great for facetank AoE dpsing down trash mobs safely while tanks keep them at bay.
Chronomancer provides great support from the back field to the tanks and melee dps in the front line.
Daredevil is another dps that can defiance break down when the group needs a shut down for incoming major blows from bosses. Also they provide good CC for tanks to stay alive.
Druid hopefully will be another major support spec on par or greater in healing and support than Ele, while providing great CC tanking as well.
Also Forge could be another tank that has great sustainable abilities to shut down enemies and defiance bar while also holding enemies away from the group.
come, any info you mind sharing Anet?
does Vitality effect Life Force?
Druid has no pets…..
matrix
First off, anet has nothing against the trinity. What they have always said is they want every class to be able to play multiple roles. You can have dps tank and support, just each class can do it and differently. That’s how they set it up and how it’s always been
Thats not how its alwayd been. Thats PR talk.
a thief cant tank no matter how they spec. They cant provide good healing no matter what they do.
same with mesmers in terms of support.
The list goes on.
Hey how did you all like the Herald in PvE?
I felt really tanky. Was fun. Leeroying mobs lol.
FoN plus Might Facet can do some serious self booning.
I believe Soothing Stone should be a stun break.
also believe Rite should be made into a Upkeep skill of some kind with an added effect.
Forced Engagement should also be an upkeep with random procs for taunt.
right now everything cost too much energy for limited use
I am having trouble, because my RS1 and GS1 is critting for 500 Damage,,,,,,
whats going on?
Rise does not work in SPvP…
Hey can others test this out. Against multiple enemies it doesnt spawn anything.
Also testing this on Chill to the Bone, it doesnt work most of the time.
Anybody test the damage reduction of Reaper?
i am not even noticing it.
Its so weak, I cant notice.
I am having trouble disengaging from a 2v1. It seems right now, if I commit to a fight, I have to commit 100% because there is no way I can disengage.
Just use Shiro super speed and run away.
Nah this should be in the counter thread.
