guardian trappers are the most played? Maybe in bronze. in platinum, it is more common to see medi trappers, followed by symbol guards and burn guards.
Hell, full trapper guard isn’t even on metabattle. Unless that by guardian trapper, op means any guard that takes even one trap, which is a ridiculous simplification.
you know what’s really broken? not having counter play to dodge spamming thieves. Spear of justice is excellent for punishing that cheese.
Guardian has hard countered thief since 2013, and Spear of Justice being balanced won’t change that at all.
If you are losing to thieves on a DH it’s time to put on some serious practice and realize the problem is you
Nah friend, i multi class. It is only after having to put up with the cheese builds from thfs on my ele and necro, that i fully appreciate all the ways i can pile drive a thf straight into the ground using my dh.
Spear of justice is fine. Only class that relies on dodges for this to be a problem is thf and they deserve to get stomped by it.

so every class is OP according to you and your threads
that’sthepointjpg
That makes them good necro bait though.
From my experience it’s pretty much random whether the team with more dh will win or not. To me, the difference between a win or a lose in a match depends more on:
1. whether the team focuses the same target or not
2. if the team focuses the right target
3. if most members on the team rotate correctly
4. whether 1v1s are won or not
5. and finally, a team with more dh is more likely to win if the opposing team has thfs, mesmers and too many necros and not enough support. a team with more scrappers, warriors, eles and druids suffers less penalty for facing dhs.

If you duo queue: ele and necro
if you solo q: dh, war, druid, scrapper for beginners, once you get the mechanical skill down and map awareness you can carry harder with mesmer and thf.
I honestly don’t understand the complaints about the reward system. I think this is the best system they’ve implemented yet. It keeps newer players motivated despite the fact they might lose repeatedly due to being new. And for veterans, it’s nice to get some gold and ascended stuff when you’re aiming for the leaderboard.
The issue is exactly the opposite. The way pvp progresses in this game is by attracting new people to it. Anyway what i really want them to do is implement a better turorial system (more in deph, bettee npc sparring partners sporting current meta builds) and to get ascended shards on the Byzantium chest during repeats. I’d be satisfied with just getting back 10 shards every time i complete the sixth tier.
I don’t think it’s necessarily a new player thing, and more of a competitive season breeds massive amounts of salt.
Just right now, my game got stuck in map selection. I knew it wasn’t lag since everything else was responding. So i decide to relog to see if it fixes it. Next thing i know i land right in a match i didn’t even know started. I get berated by two teammates as if i killed their mother or something despite me not even knowing i was in a match.
People are just really really salty during pvp leagues.
I think this is the best way to include team vs team gameplay into the pvp scene right now. Giving it a leaderboard, exclusive rewards and having it happen between pvp league seasons is the best way of making it successful.
It would be nice if anet allowed you to rate teammates. Not so much so you wouldn’t get the people you didn’t like, since that can be abused, but to promote good sportsmanship. Obviously there would need to be some sort of practical consequence to being a highly rated or poorly rated player in order to mean something.
trapper guardian… versatile?
what?
Nah you just get the 20g and the other stuff, no Ascended Shards or Llamas after the first iteration (I’ve done it like 8-10 times now – 158 games).
I’m about to finish it for the first time, do you get the 25 tickets again on the repeat?
No. Only once.
Getting some gold out of every few matches is a nice bonus, even when the match is frustratingly bad.
Anet did a soft mmr reset, as was suggested they do from complaints gathered from prevoius seasons. Next season when they don’t do a mmr reset, people will undoubtedly blame this lack of reset as the reason they are having bad matches.
It just never ends.
That will mean of course that queue times will go up too.
burn guard stopped working for me in platinum. people usually bring enough cleanse to deal with it. it shines on down cleave though.
I hope they consider changing it so it gives diminishing returns on ascended shards. I don’t see it giving you 10 shards every time you finish the 6 reward tiers in Byzantium as a big deal but it’s certainly better than 0 shards after initial completion. Same for league tickets. 1 ticket every time you finish the whole track is probably not gonna be game breaking.
I think this happens in any game. Even in platinum occasionally you get teammates that make you question how they even got here, but i try to focus instead on what i did wrong and what i could do better next time. It has been massively frustrating falling in and out of the top 250 but it is what it is. I recall raging at teammates just as much in halo and overwatch.
Please post a video of a match of yours.
I have noticed i have an easier time killing other dh though.
It’s ok but i do miss the tactical utility of being able to interrupt key enemy skills with traps. Daze was also great for rezzing. Now i just drop test of faith on cool down rather than save it.
It makes it easier to spot the person carrying the match. Although occasionally, it makes it embarrassing when you’re the only one in the team that din’t get a top stat.
I think people here genuinely aren’t used to having their skill level represented as something tangible and when they find it doesn’t match their own perception of how skilled they are, they get angry.
Oh I love that they buffed burn guards, in all but a single match today there were 3+ DH of regular or burn variety. GG ANet, way to take a class that you admit is overpowered and over represented and buff them further. Your playtesting group must be outstanding!
-players demand more build variety from anet
-anet gives more build variety
-players complain about the build variety
well they did also lower cd on virtues and the signet elite. was kind of hoping all the changes combined would amount to something
Yep, dcs have to count otherwise people just dc when they lose a placement match.
I’ve only played one match so far, but it was a pretty close game. My team was doing pretty bad at first and we were falling behind, so I just had to start rotating everywhere to pick up the slack. I love how it shows who got what top player achieve on the scoreboard at the end, because next to my name at the end of the match was every single top player achieve possible. I am guessing I was matched with a bunch of low skill players, and that this will get much harder as I progress. I am really looking forward to this season.
That’s how you know you carried.
Anypne try running vanilla bunker guard with staff and see if it works out?
Same thing happened last time core guard was buffed. People were getting killed by a dh stacking traps and then came to the forums whining about dh buffs making them broken.
Chalk it up to human perception error.
Hey Evan, thanks for the replies. I’m still curious about if a legendary player could duo queue with a player in their placements. How would the system calculate this?
Everyone still has a rating during placement, we just don’t show it so people don’t freak out when it jumps all over the place.
I am loving your honesty right now
Helseth will definitely want that rank 1 title.
These changes are solid. I like that skill splitting is being done regularly. I like the buffs to core guardian and DH shave.
I do NOT like engi changes. Hammer is untouched?! Hammer is still king, both in terms of damage and utility. It will take more than minor rifle buffs to get people to switch over. The rifle itself even might need to be reworked globally.
That being said, I remind myself that this is only a preview of tomorrow and what it will bring.
I don’t think this is a preview. I think this is all there will be for tomorrow. Karl said there aren’t gonna be changes to warrior and necro tomorrow, so i imagine this also means there aren’t any more changes for now. If they have bigger changes planned, then i wouldn’t expect them at the start of the season.
A few invulnerability frames when the effect triggers might make the elite more useful in pvp.
They really need to add a feature in this forum so you can’t see posts/threads by specific posters.
I get that exaggerations are sort of the bread and butter of video game forums, but this elite is frequently used in end game content. It was designed with pve in mind, not pvp. With that said, you’re welcome to ask the pvp team to skill split this elite to provide more hp on activation for pvp only.
We gonna do this song and dance again?
That is exactly my point. To maximize burn stacks, you can take purging flames and judge’s intervention, but if you want to maximize defense, you should take contemplation of purity and smite condition. I think a compromise can be done for the third utility skill which can either be judge’s intervention or purging flames. I would go for the former. Before, you could take 3 medis as a burn guard, but most of your burns would be coming from the teleport and torch 4, which isn’t enough. Thanks to the upcoming changes though, f1 produces much more burning and with the buffs to core f2 and f3, you can probably sacrifice taking defensive traits on virtues for more burning.
I think they’re trying to emulate what they did for guardian with other professions: just adding symbols to sword and scepter was practically enough to create a new viable build in that class. Even if these changes aren’t enough to make new viable builds in ele and thf, for example, as future balance patches arrive the incremental changes they make will start to germinate new builds.
What keeps burn guardian from really working, aside from the cover condi issue, is its reliance on needing to maximize utility towards burn stacks rather than defense. Meanwhile, other more successful condi classes only need profession mechanics, traits or weapon skills to apply their condis. Take for example condi engi, it only needs pistols, burning ammo and traits. Condi chrono just uses shatters and traits, condi warrior just uses f1 spam and traits. Etc. All these examples save their utility skills for defense.
If condi guard can apply decent burn stacks with just f1, traits and perhaps torch 4, then perhaps it can save utilities for defense too.
The problem with surge of the mists really isn’t in a 1v1. After some experience, it’s fairly practical to learn when a rev intends to use it and dodge it. The real issue with the attack is when you get +1 by a rev. It usually goes like this: you 1v1, then a rev ports to you and unleashes sotm right then and there catching you offguard. If you’re not at full health when that happens it’s pretty much gg.
Those were core virtues buffs, not dh virtues.
For those asking about it: We’ll be keeping tabs on a few of the buff (+nerf) splits and will take them into other parts of the game in future updates, as is seen fitting.
Thanks for your continued feedback!-Karl
While you’re here:
Are there also skill changes for warrior, necromancer and ranger coming next week as well? The skill balance preview didn’t include them so i assume they won’t be receiving changes on this specific patch?
I’m always here.
This update featured very directed changes with PvP specifically being the target, to herald in the new season and shake things up a bit. It’s not a full balance update and not all professions are being covered at this time.
Does this update substitute for a full balance update? No. We’ll still be doing game-wide balance updates in the future, in which case you’ll probably see a full spectrum of changes.-Karl
Alright, thank you for answering. I just wanted to know whether to expect any changes for those 3 classes or not. Now i can just focus on absorbing what we have.
You forgot d/p and staff thf. And if you’re running meta dh, you really shouldn’t be having a problem with condis. Neither condi mes, condi necro nor condi war should stop a meta power dh in most circumstances.

Considering that half the complaints on this forum are about dh, i find your argument unconvincing.
The problem with burn guard still remains the same though: little sustain and not enough cover condis.
Unfortunately this means you can’t use traps to interrupt rezes or stomps anymore. Now i need to consider whether traps aside from purification are still worth taking or whether i should take more meditations
Rev might be hard to master but it was the only class stacked in esl back when stacking was allowed and rev has always been used in every pro team since. I think if you ask pro pvp players they might even tell you power rev is a bit too much. I rather wait to see how the changes play out first before deciding if it’s too much or too little.
