The common folk in solo queue don’t know the difference between a medi trapper and a full trapper so to them it’s all the same.
Usually thfs are the ones that get the most angsty in solo queue about dhs.
I never understood why so many people solo queue on thf. I never found the appeal to the class and most thfs don’t know how to rotate, effectively forcing you to carry them. Don’t get me wrong, most people aren’t experts on rotations but thf seems particularly reliant on rotating correctly.
Pp thf eats up dhs who carry no shield or sword. So it works on hammer/lb medi trapper and full trapper.

Why is a mesmer complaining about invis ganks?
On the one hand, you have people claiming the game is unbalanced because every class and every spec isn’t able to kill everything else with the right skill level but on the other hand other people (sometimes the same people) complain thay gw2 pvp should be similar to pvp in games like overwatch that are rock vs scissors vs paper based (meaning specific classes counter specific classes).
Does the pvp community in this forum even know what it really wants?
I would especially love feedback from esl players who still post around here.
What i’ve gathered is that:
1. it doesn’t have enough mobility
2. as a function of #1, it’s defensive cooldowns can be exhausted quickly without an option to disengage effectively, such as stealth or superspeed.
3. it could possibly be best at bunking but the meta isn’t set for bunking points right now, leaving it no other role to fill that isn’t already filled by something better (far point: mes, rezzer: engi, rng, healer: ele, dps: rev, necro, +1 roamer: rev, point bruiser: rng)
And depending on why you think dh isn’t competitive at higher skill levels of pvp, what would you change to make it more competitive?

I imagine that when i run menders symbolic in pvp, the uninformed probably think i have infinite f3s and that it lasts a million years, rather than realizing i’m chaining mace 3>focus 4>focus 5>shield 4> sword 2>dodge>f3>dodge> fragment of faith. If i wana use f2, i need to drop fragments and focus 5 in order to avoid getting downed mid jump, and i save f3 for dropping purification. Whether i use f3 proactively or not depends on whether i need to use it to cleanse (fighting a necro, condi war, condi mes) or whether i need it to secure a purification drop and give me some space to maneaver just in case the enemy is smart enough to not approach. But you can’t wait too long to use f3 for cleanses because it wont cleanse fast enough if you get loaded with condis which is where contemplation of purity comes in as an energy condi cleanser.
Speaking of which, just a few weeks ago, i was running medi trapper since my team was bruiser heavy, and i took down the enemy ele and rev and the rev started ranting about full trapper guards and their trap stacking. Pretty much reminded me of this forum.
People have been complaining about full trapper since last year and anet has consistently nerfed traps since then. But traps haven’t been buffed so the reinvigorated hysteria over dh has been mostly reignited by their resurgent popularity due to the new viable builds.
People complain about DHs for the same reason people have complained about thieves and mesmers since the start of the game: they really hate getting killed by something they can’t see. That will always be the case, regardless of whether that something is overpowered or underpowered.

Good tips but i’m more interested on his opinion on guardian performance in esl level.
What is used in Pro League cannot be equated to what is used my the vast majority of players. For one thing, you are limited to one copy of a class per team. The DH is never a problem when there is just one an another team. It’s when DHs are everywhere that things get stupid.
Having said that, What would need to change about DH? I’m not sure. but here are some ideas.
- ToF: you should be able to dodge out of it without taking damage. As it stand it is damage which cannot be avoided when the trap is insta dropped on you.
- DH Virtues should not stack with Vanilla Virtues Traits. As it stand DH Virtues are just super powered versions of their vanilla counterparts.
- No traps should ever be instant cast. (That goes for all classes)
I’m going to stop there because any further risks completely crippling the class.

It seems like every season’s matchmaking is the worst according to this forum. It’s like watching an argument over which ff game is the best/worst.

In all seriousness, i would like them to make it a pulsed heal and just lower the cd on it. Maybe 5 pulses, and each one heals for 20% of the allies max hp. Maybe a cd of 90 seconds?
Problem with it right now, aside from its cd, is that if it gets interrupted, you basically get nothing from it and it goes back to a ridiculously long cd. If you spread out the heal during the channel, at least if you get interrupted at some point, you’ll at least get some healing some.

Keep in mind kittens that while a lot of you bring up dh cleave as a reason for why small capture are bad, a larger capture point is easier to hold on tk making bunker dh harder to kill since they have a lot of space to kite in.
I really love the style of the map and the theme. My two complaints :
1. Shadowsteps seem a bit weird on this map. My sword flash doesn’t seem to work unless i get away from a ledge by stepping back abit.
2. Buffs dont seem too impactful. I generally just find myself ignoring the buffs. Why not make it so the active effect of the buff is applied to all party members within 200m of the buff once it’s capped by teammate? An entire team with auto res or auto stomp sounds highly impactful but only if they commit to getting the buff. This might make it so teams who have capped all points have to devote members to prevent enemies from from capping buffs, therefore forcing them to abandon points.

We had this similar discussion last year with Eles. Even if a Druid hits like a wet noodle, their long lasting sustain will constantly contest points. Healing Power and Vitality from an Ammy, plus Toughness bunker runes = unstoppable.
Druids do go down, but that’s usually in the beginning mid fight, where you can have 4 guys focus him. But as the match goes on, if a Druid sneaks behind the fight and decaps your Home, good luck getting that back 1 v 1.
Some ideas on how to balance Druids:
- Remove Stealth. That’s a Mesmer and Thief skill
- Reduce outgoing healing by 25%

i tried that once. turns out popping all defenses and offenses at the same tame makes it very easy to be blocked and then proceed to burst you down. “keyboard rolling”yeah right

It’s kind of funny. Forum complains that esl is burst meta and that is boring and it also complains that soloq is bunker meta and fighting dh, druids and engis is no fun
Just here to give you guys your daily reminder that you’re complaining about 3 different builds.
One spams symbols, one spams traps, the other specializes in sustain and rezzes.
If you halve trap damage, you will not stop the symbol spamming build or the block/healing spamming build that (some) of you guys are complaining about. Some of you are having difficulty with some builds more than others which is probably a function of what class/build you play.
*there is also the meditrapper build which is usually used for esl that is less complained about but occasionally you will see posts saying dh tossing you in and out of test of faith is broken and does too much damage, bringing the complaints to 4 builds.
I would also like to see courtyard back but with build templates. Maybe stronghold should be taken out of league system while they are finished with conquest since it seems a tall order to balance for both simultaneously. (they also need another stronghold map for variety). They can leave stronghold for unranked until they feel they can juggle balance for both modes, cause i feel most of the balance they do is aimed at conquest.

Probably due to the removal of bunker amulets. It’s no longer feasible at higher play to bunk points, so it’s all about the kills now.

I was running medi trapper. We won mid fight, i chase the ele down, to their side near beast, i wipe him out as his rev funnily enough seemed to have been more concerned with killing beast than saving his ele. I down the ele, he comes to rez, i cleave, and eventually down him too (two more of their team showed up so i decided to wrap it up and f3 to safe stomp the rev).
The rev then starts ranting about how full trapper guard is cheap and broken.
Perhaps I killed them all with my imaginary procession of blades and dragon’s maw.
Is it really a bunker/bruiser meta if the game at WTS level seems to be about keeping your necro alive long enough so that he gives your enemies cancer? Not to mention, having your rev surge of the mist that kitten up.

The reddit thread has 107 replies. The thread here, titled Championship has 12. The helseth thread has 4 replies. The esl threads with more activity here are the abjured bashing thread with 35 replies and the thread whining about class balance with 22 replies. Honorable mention to the thread that says this is the worst esl with 5 replies and the thread mocking NA pvpers with 12 replies. On a more positive note there is a thread congratulating denial esports with… 1 reply.

The lesson they learned from you guys is to not risk their investments in a new game mode only to have the players refuse to play on it. It’s safer for them to just make new conquest maps. Less recourses and less risk.

In 4 years players received only 1 (one) new game mode: Stronghold. And that is not for players, but just a small attempt to access and try MOBA market with an MMO. However, it’s still a game mode and, believe it or not, many players actually liked it and still play it (if you do not believe me, activate it and see it’s queue time for yourself).
@Kuya.6495, our argument is not valid. There is no history of such a high risk put into PvP. As for rewards, everything they thrown… players liked it and consumed everything (even old Skyhammer or old Capricorn).

It really annoys me when people say ‘high risk high reward’ the fact is it’s high risk low reward, I’m not rewarded for taking a higher skill cap class, it’s just too easy to pop invulnerability or bunker to defeat the class.
As the OP stated you can use another class with less skill and murder thiefs. I have no problem with disengaging but I can literally reset a fight 5 times and still not get some classes below half health. It’s certainly ball ache trying to finish off some classes with the amount of blocks available.
It’s also ridiculously hard fighting on point which people expect from our class…
Some professions have blocks because they can’t reset the fight 5 times and they have invulnerability because otherwise they get roflstomped by a profession that can reset fight 5 times, if in 5 times you can’t get somebody below 50%..the problem is you and definitely not the thief.
If you complain about professions blocking or going invulnerable..then maybe we should reduce the number of their blocks….while giving them Stealth, thief mobility how that sound?
