Haha that’s funny
My Mesmer is also a noble because his ancestors helped Salma. So many things a like, the only difference is the gender.
This is too good.

As a roleplayer, I make characters based on a blend of aesthetics and an image I want them to portray.
My Human Mesmer is descended from my Ascalonian Warrior (male) and Canthan Assassin (female) from GW1, but favours her Ascalonian heritage. I wanted to play an elegant, educated and inspiring noble, and I felt a female would do better in that role.
Haha this sounds like my Mesmer (who is my main)
He’s descended from a Canthan Assassin and Ascalon Mesmer. The grand parents moved to Kryta, and after a while, the Canthan “gene” started to wilt and the family became more and more Ascalonian. Then he was born, and he looks like an Ascalon version of my Assassin with the Mesmer powers his great great (great great….) grandmother had.

idk about that, I am almost the complete opposite.
I cannot immerse myself as a female, and I use very real life names (Katy, Alex, Jake…) and people confuse me for a girl because my Elementalist is named Katy.
I had to do only 2 sex changes throughout my whole play time, and I turned my Ele into a female my Necro to a male.
Also, it was weird using Lich Form on a female so I made her male… (see pic)

When I first creates my Ranger, I always used my cat or my white raven (even though it was bugged to have less health…) and then the first Halloween event came.
I noticed so many Longbow / Brown Bear Rangers that I ended up asking them, “why the bear? I always thought cats and birds gave better dps” and their response was :
“lol no, bear + Longbow is best dps for Ranger, stop using sword ‘scrub’ "
So I tried the bear bow and knew immediately that it was… Not optimal…. For lack of better words

That’s sounds a lot like the Mesmer…. Or what it should be and not the Pseudo thief we got when changing from GW1 to GW2.
Also, where did you get that Hunter + Thief is mesmer

I seem to remember a bit of lore saying they have a city in the skies above a river (Riverside Providence?)
It could be possible that the Mursaat we faced were just soldiers, and the “civilians” are safe up high in their city.
I don’t know, I’m just a big Mursaat fan and become more optimistic when it comes to them.

I don’t get it all the hate.
One moment everyone is, “GUILDWARS 2 IS DYING OMGGG ALL MAPS ARE DEAD”
And the next, people are complaining that they see more players.
It’s an MMO, you know, a Massive Multi-player online game? Have you all been so desensitized by the shear factor of a dead zone (pre Megaserver) that’s it’s the normal to see a…. Dead zone?
And then I see the most awful complaints of “my friend is in another Megaserver, RAGGGEEEE QUITTT”
Hello!? You can easily move to their own Megaserver with 2 clicks.
I’m not even trying to be a “white Knight”
In fact, I hate how GW2 has become and their more important stealth nerfs.
But this, this is a step in the right direction.

Mesmers are restrained on phantasms and are heavily dependent on them.
Engineers can choose to use turrets or other utilities (like I don’t know? How about the more useful kits?)
Simple logic…..

Hi guys, ever since the patch (and my extreme boredom of shatter Mesmer [I’ve been a shatter for about a year now]) I decided to play around in sPvP and use our new trait Power Block.
So far, this build works great against random Hotjoins and inexperienced PvPers.
Traits:
6/6/0/2/0
With…
Domination: Empowered Illusions -> Greatsword Training (or your choice) -> Power Block
Dueling: Phantasmal Fury -> Far Reaching Manipulations -> Harmonious Mantra (or Pistol trait, your choice. But I like 3 Mantras better)
Inspiration: Mender’s Purity.
- Honestly, the 2 in Inspiration can be switched to whatever your liking is.
Weapons: Greatsword/Sword + Pistol. Why? Illusionary Wave and Pistol #5 are both reliable interrupts, and are on demand. Focus can work too, but remember there is a CD on “Into the Void”
Armor/Trinkets: In sPvP, I use Berserker’s Amulet, with damage increasing runes (Strength, Eagle, Scholar etc…), or Lyssa if I want to play safe (even though it was nerfed). In WvW [Small Scale], I’ve been using a bit of a mix between Berserker’s and Soldiers, just for the small survivability. Full Berserker if I’m feeling risky. Traveler Runes for WvW, or if it’s a bit costy, you can always get cheaper runes or even ruby orbs.
Utilities: Mantra Of Distraction, Decoy (or w/e you want), Blink.
Mantra of Distraction is an excellent interrupt, and one of the reasons why I choose Harmonious Mantras instead of the Pistol trait. It’s instant, can be used in range and doesn’t have a travel time (Pistol #5 does have a travel time). The only downside is that it’s a Mantra, and has a long casting time if you blow it all.
Healing: Ether Feast or Mantra of Recovery. I love Ether Feast, and it’s a great heal, but recently, the sPvP meta has been shifting to Conditions, and there’s a lot of condition spam. I’ve been using Mantra of Recovery lately, and it’s not a very good Burst heal at all. But, if you took Harmonious and Menders Purity, you can remove 6 conditions and heal at the same time. I’ve had great success with Recovery so far.
Interrupting: You can’t just go randomly spamming and blowing all of your interrupts. As this is an Interrupt build (and a burst build), it will benefit you greatly if you learn most of the animations of a class. You can effectively disable a heal skill for 10 seconds. Use it wisely! Also, not only that, you can help the downed [assuming you have Mantra of Distraction up] and interrupt a stomping foe if they don’t have stability/aegis.
Offense is in fact, you’re best defense. It’s important to memorize critical skills like elites (Moa, Mass Invis, Supply Crate etc…)
You have 5 interrupts + (1<->3). Diversion is a bit unreliable since we don’t have IP, but you can still make it work.
So far, I cannot interrupt the Guardian heal “Shelter” as it blocks all my interrupts.
Flaws (so far): Boon Stripping. Little Defense (no On demand Distortion like Shatter can hurt). A bit tricky and requires some skill.
I guess that is all for now! I will try and update it if people like the build, but it’s been good so far.

A NEW interrupt build I am actually very excited about! <WvW only>
It’s a heavily mediocre build but I love random builds ever since GW1 (I was always that idiot playing an Ele healer for fun)
It’s…
30/0/30/10/0
Power Block / random / Halting Strike
Chaotic Interruption / Bountiful (or staff) / random
Glamour Mastery
The idea was a (Sword / Focus) / (staff) build to provide interrupts in an area (using Temporal pull and Chaos Storm) with Feedback and Null Field for zerg support (feedback can also interrupt if, for example, a Ranger uses Point Blank and hits someone)
I haven’t thoroughly tested it yet though, but I’m excited to see results.

I just tried it.
Went 0/20/20/0/30 (0/4/4/0/6 in current standards)
I was in sPvP though, and it was…. Underwhelming.
I was very excited for the trait

SPvP was not affected. So yes, shatter is still “viable”. (it’s still subpar compared to other builds) It’s actually my go to build.
However in WvW is another story…

gg ignoring people who care about different gameplay modes than you.
….
Sorry but do you even play a Mesmer?
Mantras provided excellent utility. Especially Stability and Condition Removal mantra. Certainly, since dungeon meta is stacking, they are much more favored considering… Our other “selfish” utilities (I love decoy, but it offers nothing to the group)
Why did you respond to Pyro’s claim of veilbot with “we are good duelist tho…” Um.. This game is not based on 1v1.
I know I’m sounding pessimistic but they’ve once again (shocker) broken promises and stealth nerfed.
Remember when they said they would one day remove the minuscule ICD on shatters way back (longer than a year ago)? It’s still there.
Remember when they said iZerker was fixed? It took them months until Greatsword was viable again. And they were adamant it was a floater issue when it clearly wasn’t.
Remember when glamour confusion builds were gutted?
Remember when….
Should I go on?

I always hated “toon”
Since the first online game I have played was Guild Wars (1), I always referred them to “char” or “character” if I’m not lazy.
I always took it as a sign when someone said “toon” they either came from WoW or a WoW clone

I use my first name and the last name of a friend of mine. Loved it.
Also, other video game characters can be a source of inspiration.

Engineers are very good.
A “newbie” engineer will struggle in the beginning, but once you become skilled, they are killers.
The only flaw I see is that skilled engineers sort of do some piano playing like the Elementalist (not as much as an equally skilled Elementalist though)
+they wear hobo sacks which I hate so much…
That reminds me! Engineer is my only non level 80!

1. Distortion on death trait
2. Distortion reflects trait
3.???
4.Zergfest
Call me a pessimist but I have counter theory work.
If you are already winning, you will be procing distortion non stop. But then again you are already winning. 5 deaths mean a lot to a ~25 man zerg, especially if they are the combo field makers.
If you are losing, This trait will be null. A zerg that is losing will hardly kill anyone. Not only that but you have to make sure to tag the enemy before they die.
Of course this will be useful for you (unless you are the commander). Tell me, what can non-commander Mesmer do to help a zerg after their Feedback and Null Field is gone?
I’m not trying to be that rude jerk, but I see little potential in this skill for zergs.

I can sympathize.
My whole Guild (which was SO FULL, we needed to make a waiting list for people wanting to go on) is now reduced to me and 3 other people who play in a daily basis.
I just had a talk to one of the head officers of the guild, and their reasoning was that, even with the Living World, Anet was taking way to slow to progress, and cares little for WvW advancements (we were predominantly WvW with a bit of PvE players)
So we went from one of the biggest guilds, to being so rare, that when people see my Guild tag, they say, “I thought you guys died”
Just a bit more info:
Everyone went to some other game or left the guild because it was so empty.

I still remember when they told Rangers near launch that they will be so buffed, it will be over powered.
It came, and Rangers got aquatic buffs only.
(I’ve always been main Mesmer but Ranger was my primary alt. Then the update came and I only touch him for map completion in order to get my 3rd legendary)

Not the biggest but definitely my funniest.
I’ve been playing since launch and about 6 months ago, I had just heard of the Spectral Walk bungee jump.
So I managed to taunt a warrior with the legendary Sunrise to cliff hoping he would follow me down while I could bungee jump back up.
Well, I hd forgotten that I used Spectral Walk earlier, I jumped off of said cliff and asked myself
“WHY AM I NOT GREEN??”
I died lol

As main Mesmer and a secondary Guardian, I must agree.
However we have to remember that ArenaNet does not balance in accordance to 1v1, thus Mesmers ( a class literally meant for 1v1) have an advantage.
I’m usually typing on my phone
Yes I agree (signet of spite, healing signet and signet of Rage being the three most prominent)
But I would suspect this skill would need a high cool down. Unless you suggest that the skill would act like a Null Field. I wouldn’t mind a kitten cd on a Null Field type Ignorance
Edit :To elaborate, I initially thought you suggested an almost Carbon copy of the gw1 ignorance. Single target only.

I don’t know about you but I got sick of hearing Soule’s work and it’s a little repetitive now that I’ve played music since GW1 Prophecies (GW Factions theme, however, makes me tear up because it’s so great and nostalgic)
I love Battle on the Breachmaker especially the last part where the music is very hectic.
Marionette (Origins of Madness) was excellent. Top notch in my opinion!
Also, if you haven’t heard, Soule is under controversy. Be it the comparison of the Holocaust and DirectSong “scam”
I guess that’s what I was trying to address, was that while his music is repetitious (one-trick-pony composer) he at least outputs higher quality. The Four Winds music was low quality. It got better from there, but for that release I had to mute the music. It was bad.
Once again, I find that the piece is comprised of clichés. It’s nothing we haven’t heard in soundtracks before, and the main melodic content uses the GW2 theme that Soule composed.
…And what is the controversy? And where can I read up on this? I found him to be a difficult composer to follow: website was nonexistent and found few to no interviews. Jack Wall and Austin Wintory are much more open, it would seem.
He compared pirating music to the Holocaust of the Jews.
For the DirectSong controversy…
Since Soule is very against piracy, his music discs are… Hard to get.
DirectSong is one of the only places to get Soule’s work legally. However, there are NUMEROUS stories of discs never ever arriving, even when the customer has already paid. In fact, I recall IGN had to intervene for 1 customer to get a hold of the disk.
If the disc is received, it is usually 6 months to a year+ late. And damaged to the point where some songs are inaudible.

I certainly miss my Mesmer in GW1, not the damage aspect though, but the knowledge that you put extreme pressure on your foe (Mentally, not game-wise mechanically)
Monk: Do I use Word of Healing on the warrior near death or eat a Diversion/Backfire/Interrupt?
Mesmers (in PvP, at least) definitely ran in the background. A normal player would be unable to tell whether the Mesmer party member was doing their job right because the way they offer support is through punishing the other team. (I’m talking mostly about GvG and some HA)
Fort Aspenwood, JQ and Alliance Battle/PvE Mesmers were a different story.
But on topic!
I agree they should implement some more types of punishment. Ignorance was a GW1 Mesmer skill that automatically disabled all signets for (x) seconds. Would be nice, probably not worth an Elite slot and would mostly be used for dueling.

I got some very nice screenshots, and it’s really fun. I just can’t play with looking at my characters this silly, so I will opt out on the rest of the day.
In my opinion, they should have done the Gender switch like in GW1, but this is cool too.

Sad, but Guardian is so “stable” that I believe this is how Longbow will be if they decide to release new weapons.

5) fire a sparkling holy light arrow

You say it can be blocked or evaded. There’s no way to tell when someone is casting it. Especially if you’re already running away from them.
Moa skill 5 can easily outrun illusionary leap if you use it instantly (which you should anyway)
I’m usually typing on my phone
I would really love aesthetic skill changers in the gem store like :
Instead of Moa Morph, the target turns into a deer.
Instead of Flesh Golem, you summon an Aatxe
Guardian books replaced with a floating ankh
Tornado turns into a tornado based on element (fire becomes a fire whirl, water becomes a water spout, air is an electrified tornado [think Infamous 2 tornado], Earth is more sandstorm like)
All aesthetic changes, no real changes to the functionality.
I’m usually typing on my phone
They should make Moa Morph to be a 5-10 person AoE that turns them into moas for 3 seconds, with a higher cd.
Now that will be funny lol

YES LOL!
I remember we were able to Waypoint dungeons during combat, and it was around launch time (~3 weeks in? maybe more) and I did Ascalonian Catacombs for the first time ever.
We were stuck on Adelbern and Ralena/Vassar.
Our strategy- Keep them aggroed so they do not regenerate health. This meant, if you died, you have to WP and run straight to the boss, not caring for armor repairs.
When we finished Ralena/Vassar, we were almost naked (I still had my pants on….)
When we finished Adelbern, EVERYONE was naked except for this norn male who had gloves on.
The funniest part was, when we first started, I saw this Asuran elementalist with very nice and overall “daring” armor scheme. When we ended, he was a naked mole rat. With underwear.

Energy Tap
Very interesting idea. But it probably doesn’t fit into the Inspiration line. Adding a random boon to it won’t hide that fact. Themewise Domination might be a better fit.
Hmm…. really?
I was nodding to the fact that Energy Tap was an Inspiration Skill all the way back, but I got the inspiration (no pun intended, really) from this
But I do understand thematically how Domination (a more “punishing” trait line) would fit.
I’m usually typing on my phone
Replace that trash of a future grandmaster trait we are going to get in inspiration for:
Energy Tap (Name nods to GW1)
When you interrupt a foe, they lose (x) amount of energy and you gain (x) amount back. You also get regeneration boon.
I don’t think it needs an ICD, but if it seems OP, sure.
By energy, I mean the Dodge meter.

The are right that Guardians are in a “good” spot.
Solid power and damage with enough sustainability.
However where can a Guardian spec for conditions?
Guardians may be in a good spot, but their current builds are bleak, stale and boring.
I’m usually typing on my phone
It hurts power shatters (I’ve been a shatter Mesmer for long time, almost since release!)
But there is now a new shatter spec with the new trait, a condition shatter Mesmer. I have some build ideas already.
I will definitely miss my power shatter though, but we all have to take a hit and change sometime… (the shatter spec is already weak, but they are on making it more weak, less viable….)

It was more pink than purple really and the reasons Mesmer’s skills were that color had to do with the movie the ‘Butterfly Effect’.
……. No…
I have no clue why you cite the movie instead of the theory.
The only thing butterfly about mesmers (in gw1) was soothing images. In fact, their profession symbol was some eye in a hand (which has an Indian meaning about the evil eye, if I remember)
In gw2 is another story, mesmers dropped the evil eye symbol for that of butterflies, most likely to represent Chaos
I’m usually typing on my phone
Well in GW1 it wasn’t really pink, more purple.
Also, all classes had a class color I’m gw1 regardless of skills.
All icons of the elementalist were red, but not most skills gave the red color due to… Elements….
Monk- the iconic blue color is present in almost all Monk skills and icons.
Ranger- Ranger focused on a yellowish (lighter) side of green, like the grass in the fields. Almost all icons were this color and even some skills presented a yellow green including attack skills.
Necromancer – they were the Green green, or the “dark” green. All icons except signets were green and most, if not all, skills were green visuals or black.
Ritualists- Teal / blue green. Literally all skills and icons were this color, even the spirits were teal.
….
You get what I’m saying. I don’t think there is a lore reason. It’s pretty nice though, you know your fighting a Mesmer when pink (use to be purple) colors pop up on the screen
