Still, you need to position yourself, clones, and make sure your oppenent, is vulnerable. Definitely not easy compared to some other class’s easy 1-2 button burst.

I’m wondering how well you fare against Engies. I’m changing keyboard everytime I’m done facing a Mesmer. Feeling outclassed on all sides.

Thief at this point really needs some ability to diversify builds and I think a new elite and a fix for the nerf to basi venom would help that some. Of course it won’t fix the disparity between d/p and every other set but that’s another issue of it’s own.

That won’t diversify builds, that will shoehorn all of you into it.

On a side note, is anyone NOT running TK + Elixer S????

I highly doubt it. Everyone’s damage is increased, you can’t soak it anymore with stats. So you do like the rest of them do: Use as many invul, block, and other active or passive damage avoidance skills you can have at once. The problem is that you can’t apply pressure when using any of those. During this time, some classes will kitten you up with twice your current damage while at least a layer of their defenses is up.

I honestly don’t know what’s happening anymore. It’s insane.

Woah, thats a lot of roasting there buddy. We don’t have enough cold water for all of his burns. xD

As for my thoughts on the matter:

Arguments against nerfing PU often feel extremely selfish, not many people care if other players are having fun or not fighting your infinite stealth build. If you want PU to stay please give solid arguments.

I feel like OP is saying ‘’please don’t nerf PU, I’m having fun now that I’m abusing the broken mechanics of stealth and stunlocking people so they barely get to throw any moves at me, so don’t listen to people who have constructive arguments as to why it should be nerfed’’.

It honestly saddens me that people just want their class to be better than others simply to have this unfair advantage over them, no sense of individual skill or pride at all.

If mesmer is actually balanced right now, then that’s freaking great, but we at least need arguments as to why you think mesmer is currently balanced.

No one said they want Mesmer to be OP to any other class. It saddens me how people “ASSUME” things based off of what others say. Clearly PU is not OP. Condis are PU Mesmers weakness. We arent GODS walking among mere MORTALS.

PU is fine. Leave it alone.

That’s clearly what he wanted to read. ._.

8 Burn stacks. It’s cool and all that, but well. Doesn’t work. And if you take the time to set it up (Come on, I mean, Flamethrower, and perhaps Rocket Kick for the more courageous ones?), you’re simply dead. Everyone will slice you to pieces even with both Inventions and Alchemy mixed in and if you’ve invested most of your ressources to survive, there are great chances that you didn’t have much of an impact, if not at all.

why do people hate mesmers?

in Mesmer

Posted by: MrForz.1953

MrForz.1953

Sooo, why do I hate Mesmers… When starting GW2, whenever I laid eyes on the Mesmer class I knew it was going to be trouble. When going beyond 2000h of game time as an Engineer and fiddling with other classes in PvP to catch their mechanisms, I rarely was motivated to face a Mesmer.

I’ve killed my share, with great success, even now with the engineer being gutted, but the fight itself is something I hate, having to pull an amount of APM comparable to a Grandmaster Korean Zerg player when facing someone who doesn’t even try his hardest, knowing at any moment that if I waste more than two of my abilities I’m dead and buried. Not fun. And then there’s the disengage. It’s rare for me to keep enough ressources on the side to counter that.

Add on top of this, that since Mesmer is in a good shape and has stealth blah blah blah yada yada, every kitten around rolls one to spit on the graves of the less experienced players in WvW. And that sums it up.

I don’t hate every single one of you. But well. I guess it’s exactly like humanity itself.

I also did have the same beef with Thief in all their builds but I’ve honestly had less trouble with them, in most of circumstances they were prone to more than brutal counter-attacks.

Now, after more than a total of 4k hours of PvE, PvP and WvW into that engineer with no care for any other class, owning many ascended sets and my Predator, I’m proud of what this little guy has become and is never going to use a makeover kit for anything other than hair styles. When you want to play Thief while not too interested in hooded assassins, stabby midgets, and other waifus everyone pulls off, unless you have unique plans for your human, you have two options: Charr, or a Norn gentleman.

Assuming the charr isn’t too tall to start with, it takes some time getting used to. Then you get to appreciate the powerful attack movements, makes you feel like a strong, dirty fighter. It’s recommended however to not wear too much mesh-overwhelming armor and to always sheathe weapons when possible, one handed stance is ugly indeed.

Also, the charr probably has the least amount of silly quotes of all races. :P

When is it ever fully happy?

I honestly don’t know. I just didn’t expect people to apply this much pressure on that Rifle debate, and sometimes it goes borderline stupid.

It’s one thing to demand a rifle due to the gameplay needs, it’s true that the Thief could use the ranged punch and that some specializations will allow the insertion of that weapon quite nicely.

But on the other side, Anet might not interpret the Thief’s core concept and gameplay the same way as the general opinion, perhaps they’ll want the Thief to remain up close and personal, the rifle’s skill set is very likely to not allow everything the Thief is known for: Burst damage, stealth, mobility, because obtaining this at 1000+ range would be downright stupid no matter how strong or useless it will be, the Thief isn’t an upgraded Warrior either.

The reasoning for the Rifle and against the Rifle can both be valid but irrelevant since, at the very least, Anet’s point of view toward what Thieves could represent has not been shown, but well, it can be debated without the furious fervor of a nerf or buff request as long as it doesn’t go beyond the border of “IT’S INEVITABLE!”

Now, to base the oncoming weapons on what certain NPCs carried when showing off to a picture and make it a fact, that’s downright desperate. Especially since no other class has had that omen. (Except the Necromancer perhaps but Orr is sort of a kittenstorm)

What are the Best Ways to Learn This Class?

in Thief

Posted by: MrForz.1953

MrForz.1953

If you’ve ever played league, its like playing a Zed.

Zed is highly toxic in a way that you only need basic coordination with your two hands to kill another individual and come out unharmed, the design of this character was made so you couldn’t possibly fail at this very objective. The damage is high, you have a way out of the mess you get into and you even have an indicator saying if your target will die of the mark’s trigger. Can’t get any dumber than that. The major downside is that you’re using all your power to take care of one person on the field, therefore, not really a win pick.

If you give any value to the Thief class, you’ll retract what you’ve just said.

Um… Practice, just like with most things.

And listen to the wise words of Mr.Piccolo:

Everytime I hear the mentioning of Piccolo I always think about “I’VE NEVER FELT SUCH POWER!”

And to finish. Well, I’m definitely not a good Thief and will always love my Engineer until the end of times, but if you really cherish your class and character and simply play it, it will come naturally with time. Have to be patient.

Thief- To survive and to kill

in Thief

Posted by: MrForz.1953

MrForz.1953

Why are charr thieves always so terrible? I don’t want to sound racist, but in most cases I have witnessed this is true.

Actually, it might go beyond charr thieves, and it seems to be mostly a question of attitude. Asuras are perceived like Pro-MLG deuchbags, Humans are perceived the same way except they have one, or many sticks up their… well. Sylvaris are helping, Norns are trolls, and Charrs are a mix of Sylvari and Norn. :P

You simply need to pick your poison, hehe.

In terms of performance… Well. Charr Thieves are rare, because apparently, to be a Thief it’s compulsory to be 2 feet tall or to be a mysterious human, reducing the chances to see a good Charr Thief. Add on top of this that those deciding to focus on PvP and making another class will forsake the Charr and Norn, (due to their height and gestures that can potentially be read) in order to have a semblant of (meaningless) advantage and that doesn’t brighten the picture.

C’mon man don’t play dumb. Read the first two post again and tell me that they aren’t passive aggressive. Not to mention the mouth breather above this post. Every time someone post a video on this forum, the self proclaimed pros pop out of the woodwork to down talk the OP.

It’s not often possible to survive a 2 vs 1 or a 3 vs 1 with skills that affect only one person, such as single target CCs. It’s important to know that some features like stealth and mobility, especially when combined keep their full impact when playing against many, because it directly affects all of them, if they aren’t that smart, you can easily outplay many foes at once as if they were only one, and it’s fairly easy to execute. Of course, it will take one person within that crowd that knows the simplier patterns and he will end the said Thief, but the point is that it’s not rocket science anymore, that’s pretty much expected of everyone that a Thief does this nowadays, and this is why it’s not impressive anymore. When you disguise those into them MLG plays it’s sort of cringe-worthy for the player who knows this.

The rest is up to the community, I remember complaints against haters who came hating on the Thief forums, yet, these same people were bathing into these tears and looking to shed more when possible.

Both of them behave the same way and have their share of problems, the only thing that is different is that this failed wire could have been replaced by a perhaps more useful utility skill in the combat you currently are, Magnet only occupies 1/5 of an utility skill.

Because maybe we’ll get a sceptre (off-hand) with shadow-stealthy magics or something like that. Something dark, maybe! Who knows.

It’s purely speculation. It’s just that the rifle has been asked for since the release, people don’t want to go Engineer or Warrior and want to fulfill their commando dreams despite the high incompatibility in gameplay and the immense level of toxicity from most of the suggested skillsets. You obviously didn’t play Planetside 2 for very long. Cloaking in that game was useless. The predator light bending thing was so easy to spot. Even in pitched battles, I could spot an infiltrator from a hundred leagues. Mobility is such a huge aspect in both games, implementing that kind of stealth mechanic in GW2 would effectively break stealth completely.

Only a mere 2 years. And and I don’t talk about using hunter cloak (or even stalker cloak) to go blindly through long distances without the use of your recon tools, of course you’ll get spotted, infact you’d deserve to get spotted, the cloaking was just a little thumbs up, not a crutch, that’s what separated basic infiltrators from excellent, and especially annoying ones, if you were to go SMG. It’s much, much easier with a sniper rifle.

Aaaand, I merely pointed out that one mechanic. There’s also the Tribes stealth, completly invisible, the more you moved the more energy you drained and you’d be revealed when taking damage or when out of energy.

MrForz.1953

I go invisible at times and people can’t find me for a few seconds. Looks a lot like stealth to me. What’s your definition of video game stealth?

Planetside 2 stealth I suppose. The cloak would only give you partial invisibility if you were running around, but not many people would pay attention to you if they’re worried about getting shot by the huge number of enemies around.

If stealth was only partial invisibility or something like that, opponents would remain wary of both visible and cloaked opponents, I’m afraid, they’d have enough focus for that unless the battles were extremely large.

Also, I do tend to be tired of abused stealth mechanics, I’ve seen more exciting things than playing cat and mouse while baiting 2 to 3 get out of jail free cards before coming to a conclusion. I suppose it’s more fun for the opponent. I’ve been ruining some people’s days comboing Smoke bomb into Supply Crate, despite hating the Bomb Kit itself, and using the thrown Elixir S. It’s not against the Thieves and Mesmers themselves, just stealth. It’s a delicate change to ask for, too delicate to actually be changed, understandable.

Rapiers or Katanas?

in Thief

Posted by: MrForz.1953

MrForz.1953

What’s wrong with slashing with rapiers? Unless I’m thinking of ENTIRELY the wrong thing, they actually were quite adept at making quick, shallow cuts in order to bleed an opponent out. Not heavy, cleaving slashes, mind…but they weren’t purely a thrusting weapon.

Yea, they are purely thrusting weapons. Both fencing and the weapon itself emphasize short, quick thrusting movements. Thrusts are more lethal than cuts for a variety of reasons. Organ puncture, wounds are harder to close, introduction of contaminants deeper into the body, etc. Not to mention that the only sharp area of the sword is at the tip of the blade. No reasonable person is going to attempt to bleed you out through shallow, superficial cuts when they can just stab your liver with a 5ft toothpick.

When trade between Europe and Asia picked up in the 1600/1700’s, Japan had such a huge problem with westerners killing the locals with rapiers that the country eventually made the sword illegal to carry.

Both of those are true. The slashing is limited but it remains there (has to be executed without the use of the whole arm), you’ll end the fight with a thrust no matter what, however. What made its charm is that many of those rapiers were surprisingly versatile, even against opponents wielding larger blades, designed for smashing.
