Ele and Engi weapon swap OOC

Pandaman.4758

I would have disagree with the idea of implementing weapon swaps for Elementalists and Engineers.

Instead of weapon swapping, I would rather they implement GW1’s build templates as that would allow you to swap weapons (and armor, if you so desire) with a single click outside of combat without having to modify how Elementalists and Engineers currently work.

To further facilitate the convenience of build templates, it would be nice to have safe bags that automatically store account/soul bound items of common quality or higher (so trash still goes into oiled bags), so every time you swap builds you know your gear is going back into a safe bag regardless of how it was swapped (such as when you manually drag a two-handed weapon into a slot occupied by main and off-hand weapons).

Gem store access through browsers?

Pandaman.4758

I remember when I first started playing that certain gem store items could be purchased through www.guildwars2.com/en/shop/ (such as character slot expansions and the like), but I can’t seem to find a way back to those listings anymore. If I put HoT in the shopping cart I can see Living Story Season 2 in the “Customers also bought” list, so I know people must have been buying things through the web store at least up until the LS2 package.

Can anyone tell me how to get into the web store or was it something that was removed when the HoT prepurchase went live?

I recently created two characters to try out condition builds for the ranger and guardian, and while I’m still tweaking the builds I don’t feel like they’re noticeably underpowered compared to my zerker characters. Note that I haven’t tested either build in dungeon paths yet (I’m not going to saddle others with experimental builds), so this impression comes mostly from charging blindly into swarms of karkas in Southsun’s events (when there’s no KQ, so no other players about to skew the outcome).

What happens if I buy gems?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pandaman.4758

Pandaman.4758

There’s no reason why buying gems would ruin the game for you. Farming gems may be something you’ve set as a goal, but a goal is hardly enough reason to play a game if you didn’t find it enjoyable at all (which is what I would define as being “ruined” for a game); the only thing that acquiring these gems would do is cause you to shift your goals to something else, such as collecting skins, achievement point hunting, or replacing all your gear with ascended versions.

guild wars 2 season 1 repaly

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pandaman.4758

Pandaman.4758

Problem with Season 1 was that it interacted a lot with open world maps, ANet would have to find a way to implement the huge events that changed the landscape and had events that required the entire map to coordinate without intruding on the current maps if they wanted to bring Season 1 back.

They could try to remake the chapters into instanced features, but then they’d have to completely redo events like the Marionette or Escape From LA to work for 5-man parties instead of the 100 or so people it used to take.

Or they could put down “fractal portals” at each map that leads to an entirely separate map (using the Season 1 maps) where the event is permanently on, but that’s functionally no different from adding new maps to the a zone and I’m sure there are limitations/complications in doing that.

Either solution would take development time that’s constantly tied up by work for new content; unless ANet devs very generously work on their free time to do this (and game development rarely gives much free time), it’s unlikely we’ll see this any time soon.

Oppression of Indigenous Peoples is Bad

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Pandaman.4758

There are a few hearts in the game, “Help Zippti study the Hyper-agressive skritt” in Caledon Forest to be specific, that force me to ruin an indigenous culture’s art.

You can also advance that heart by reprogramming golems around the camp.

In Queensdale for the “Assist Laboror Cardy and Ojon’s lumbermill” I need to “topple skritt shiny things”.

You can also advance that heart by killing hostile skritt or the freaking gigantic wasps in the other direction. I trust you have no problems killing wasps, but if you do then your opinion stops mattering. They are winged hate and must be destroyed.

There isn’t just one way to finish a heart, your complaints hold no water.

[Suggestion]Superior Rune of Taunting

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Pandaman.4758

Pandaman.4758

Some classes only have lengthy elites. I rather not have them alienated when they want to play a soft tank role.

Also, when you are forced to heal, it usually means someone is on you. So while it looks good on paper, it wouldn’t work.

It wouldn’t alienate anybody, a rune set for taunting should only be designed to supplement existing skills (which will be updated to have taunts as we get closer to HoT’s release) without being absolutely necessary to be effective; if anything making the rune set’s taunt ability too effective would pigeonhole anyone who wants to soft tank into using that set.

There’s also the issue that rune sets have never offered any meaningful source of CC, even the aforementioned Sunless and Nightmare sets only offer a single second of fear for their long cooldowns; having a rune set that allows people to passively and quickly generate taunts would be simultaneously OP (in PvP/WvW environments) and useless (in PvE environments for the aforementioned reasons), which would probably be impossible to balance.

On the other note, if a person wants to tank then they should have the right skills for it and there are currently several healing skills that have great synergy with taunts: Shelter, Defiant Stance, A.E.D. (which I can’t link because the link ends with a period, gg ANet), Withdraw, Glyph of Elemental Harmony if you’re attuned to Earth, and Mirror all incorporate some form of damage mitigation; the only classes that don’t have access to heals with Taunt synergy are Rangers (though we don’t know what the Druid’s healing ability will be), Necromancers (but they’re tanky enough with their Death Shroud anyway), and Revenants (still a work in progress).

[Suggestion]Superior Rune of Taunting

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Pandaman.4758

Pandaman.4758

Rune of the Sunless and Rune of the Nightmare both proc fear as their #6 ability and both have lengthy cooldowns, so those should be used as reference for how ANet balances CC skills on rune sets.

That being said, proccing taunt on runes should only be from activating a heal skill or an elite, because that puts the control in your hands. If you have a rune set that procs taunt because of something someone else did, you’d find yourself in situations where you’re taunting when you don’t want to taunt: when you’re near dead and your heal is still on CD, have 30 stacks of invulnerability and your condi cleanse is on CD, you’re performing an action that gets interrupted by attacks (Dredge fractal, anyone?), etc.

I’m just going to be lazy and link this blog post titled ‘How to Encourage Impulse Buys in Your Store: A Deeper Look at Unplanned Purchases’.

Of particular note:

Hit the right psychological triggers

Make your impulse buys more noticeable and enticing by pushing the right consumer buttons. Here are some suggestions:

  • Urgency – Trigger people’s sense of urgency through limited-time promos. Consider the Bath & Body Works example above. It included a “Today Only” description in its signage to make the impulse buy more compelling.
  • Value – Make people see that they’re getting a good deal with generous offers. Victoria’s Secret for instance runs “Buy two, get two” promos with its impulse products to further encourage shoppers to buy.
  • Excitement or Novelty – You don’t always have to throw in an offer with your impulse products. Often, if a product looks fresh or novel enough, people will notice them. If you have new and original items in your store and they fit the above-mentioned criteria (i.e., handy and low cost), then consider testing them out as impulse buys to see how customers react.

Wings being up only for 24 hours? Novelty and urgency. Did you see how high gold→gem prices spiked when those came out? More than a few people would have resorted to buying gems with cash because they couldn’t (or wouldn’t) pay 100+ gold for 500 gems.

Manipulating customers into impulse buys isn’t stupid, it’s business.

Selling Paths and Fractals:Issue or no?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pandaman.4758

Pandaman.4758

As long as the sellers aren’t exploiting other players or their services aren’t making it harder for the rest of us to play, what does it really matter?

At the end of the day it’s just a game, that you had fun (and didn’t do so at the expense of others) should be all that matters. Concerning yourself with how other people play the game isn’t healthy for you and isn’t healthy for the game; it’s the same kind of mindset that spawns all those toxic anti-zerk/anti-Trinity/anti-whatever threads that ultimately boil down to “I don’t like how other people play, nerf them” (and wind up shafting us with nerfs).

Again on sale the Silver-Fed Salvage-o-Matic

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pandaman.4758

Pandaman.4758

While it would keep you from having to constantly buy fine salvage kits I never could figure out the value. You are paying the same amount per salvage as the fine salvage kits plus the $$ for the gems in the first place to get the machine.

Is there something I am missing or is it just a QOL issue? Usually when I am doing a lot of salvaging I just stand near a merchant.

You mean the Master’s Salvage kit (25% chance of rarer material, 80% to recover upgrade, 61.44c per use, 25 uses), the Fine Salvage kit is two grades below that.

That being said, it really doesn’t have any value to it. The Copper Fed kit is a convenient item because you can easily go through one or two Basic quality salvage kits just from a couple hours of regular play (just from salvaging Common, Fine, and Masterwork items), so not only is it cheaper per use (by half a copper), it saves you bag space and waypointing costs; conversely the Silver Fed kit doesn’t offer any of these conveniences because a Mystic quality kit does as much, only costs 10c per use, a single kit can last you an entire month (assuming you do the smart thing and only salvage Rares and Exotics with it), and wouldn’t affect the frequency of you having to waypoint back to a vendor.

Now I realize this has absolutely no bearing on us as players, but I was curious what happens to stores with the original copies of GW2 once HoT is released, given HoT will effectively make those copies completely worthless. Will retailers be exchanging their copies for box copies of HoT, are unactivated core serial keys automatically upgraded to HoT, or are retailers expected to eat the loss for holding outdated stock?

Pandaman.4758

I thought they said somewhere that tomes will only work once per day on Rev because they didn’t want vets to blow through the content while newer players have to level grind.

That rumor doesn’t even really make sense if you think about it. Veterans already have access to end game content by dint of, y’know, being veterans; the only way ANet can prevent veterans from going through HoT while the new players grind is by resetting all of our 80s to level 1. Stopping one class, or even all classes, from using the ToK would do absolutely nothing.

The leveling process itself is not content, it’s a time sink for unlocking features – one which ANet enables people to bypass by providing ToKs for free.

You’ll note that games that offer alternate voice sets for characters either have very few spoken lines or are utterly terrible in quality. The only reasonable way GW2 can offer alternate voice sets is with pitch and timbre sliders, but obviously it can’t do anything about the accent.

Maybe one day a developer will finally deliver that natural text-to-speech synthesizer that was supposedly in development over ten years ago. One can always hope.

Free Trail

Pandaman.4758

I don’t see the harm in a free trial

You know what came to mind the moment I saw “Free Trial”?

Gold sellers. Gold sellers everywhere, every hour of every day, an endless legion of them created through the wonders of automation (make free email account, sign up for free trial, spam until banned, rinse, repeat). If you think it’s bad now when the bottleneck is stolen accounts and accounts bought on discount, think of how bad it would be when the only limitation is how fast their account creation scripts work.

Even if ANet disabled mapchat for free trials the gold sellers would go through whispers, if they disable even that then it defeats the purpose of a free trial because communication is vital to keeping the interests of people trying out MMOs (the genre doesn’t lend well to single player experience due to dragging out play hours with repetitive content).

The best time to get people to try out the game is when it’s on sale, unfortunately with the new pricing model introduced by HoT we’re not going to see a sale any time soon.

Honestly, customer support is completely correct here: this is a personal issue that has to be resolved between you and the other person, ANet can’t intervene when there’s no apparent violation of the ToS. Also I vaguely recall a post some time ago about how CS doesn’t actually have the power to change guild names, only the acronyms, so the only way you’d get the name back would be to convince them to invite you to the guild and promote you to leader anyway.

That being said, you know that you can still use the same acronym, right? Like how hundreds of different personal guilds use the [Bank] acronym without any conflicts, you can at least ask CS to change that part of your guild if you still can’t convince this other person to give you leadership.

HoT Price Feedback + Base game included [merged]

Pandaman.4758

I’m not a fan of the $50 price tag, but I understand ANet wants to make GW2 less intimidating for new players to join by simplifying the purchase to a single price point and can agree with the model on that aspect; however, like you, I haven’t seen or heard anything from ANet that makes me think it’s an expansion (or standalone campaign for those obsessed with splitting hairs) on the same scale as GW1’s Nightfall or Factions.

That being said, we do have the ability to mitigate the price of the expansion with our monthly spending habits. Unlike a subscription MMO we aren’t stuck with paying a full game’s price and doling out ransom money for our characters every month; unless ANet chains all of their developers to their desks and start pumping out $50 expansions every other month it’s fairly trivial to adjust our spending habits to average things out. If you feel that you’re overpaying for the expansion by (for example’s sake) $20 then the next time you want to purchase 1600 gems you can use gold instead of money.

(Granted if you normally don’t spend any money buying gems then you don’t have much of a right to complain about the expansion price)

Alternatively you can go for broke, pick up the $100 Ultimate bundle, and do some creative accounting by breaking down the cost as such: $50 for gems, $20 for two character slots (assuming you qualify for the extra slot), and the remaining $30 is the “actual” price you paid for the expansion. The only benefits you get for prepurchasing would be the cosmetic items and beta access.

The only thing i dont like about Guild Wars 2

I have played almost all mmos, when i say all i mean it(well apart from some japanese anime mmos which come out every 3-4 months) Guild Wars 2 was clearly the best one for me and i wont stop playing it until all the Elder Dragons are dead but the only thing that i dont like about it its that its still not on Steam!!!

Steam dominates the whole ditigal world now and its the center of gaming. I really hope to see it there sometime in the future since GW1 is on Steam aswell, yes Valve takes 30% of the money that the games sell but with Guild Wars 2 there the sales of the game will increase even more i dont doubt that they will pass the 10 million in the first week so at the long way ArenaNet will acctualy earn more money both them and Valve i dont see any reason for it not being there but i have hopes even if it takes 5 years i hope il see it on Steam eventualy like all the rest which come there now ESO, Wildstar (yes wildstar is coming in august on Steam https://steamdb.info/sub/68224/) and even Lineage 2 has a steam database now please Guild Wars 2 just come there.

I’m sure they’ve already hired a room full of financial and marketing experts to weigh the cost vs. value of including Steam as one of their retail partners; I’m also sure there’s a good financial reason why they chose not to retail on Steam.

On a tangential note: my God, man, punctuations.

No tank, No healer, No trinity

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pandaman.4758

Pandaman.4758

Collin came out for the poi and specifically said that, guild wars 2 was never meant to emphasize damage while ignoring support/healing roles. There take on the trinity was to address the problem of professions only having one role, and to instead make it possible for every class to be able to preform any role they wished.

If the idea is to allow classes to be flexible enough to assume any role, it’s rather critical to actually give them the tools to do that; it’s difficult to believe they wanted everyone to be able to fill the role of a tank with absolutely no aggro management or to fill the healing role when the only decent source of outgoing healing is to blast water fields (which anybody can do and do just as well as a dedicated healer).

So either they didn’t want tanking and healing roles from the start and have changed their minds, or they did want it and completely forget to actually implement it for the past three years.

If it’s true. I welcome it . What are your thoughts

I’m ambivalent. On on hand I don’t feel there’s a need for tanks or healers, but on the other hand I think it would be nice for people trying to roll as tanks or healers to have the ability to contribute something to the party in exchange for the DPS they sacrificed.

Business Model Clarification

We want to be clear about our business model for future expansions now that we are approaching our first paid expansion for Guild Wars 2. We believe that to keep the game dynamic and vibrant with a constantly growing community, it should be as easy as possible for new players to get into Guild Wars 2. For Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns, we didn’t want the core game’s price to be a factor in a new player’s decision to begin playing Guild Wars 2. In the future, if we release further Guild Wars 2 expansions, we plan to offer all of the prior expansions, the core game, and the latest expansion for one single purchase price.

We are committed to our players and believe we remain the single best value in the MMO space. We set out on this journey to challenge the conventions of MMOs, to knockdown the barriers to accessibility, and to fulfill the promise of what online worlds should be. In the process, the best community in gaming came together in Guild Wars 2. It is to our community—past, present, and future—that we are committed. Thank you for your understanding, and we look forward to seeing you in game.

Don’t know about the OP, but personally I like to have physical copies of games because I like having an actual box and disc. Been playing games since the 80s, just doesn’t feel right not to have a physical product in hand, y’know?

Also not everyone has the internet connection to download massive updates, currently waiting on a friend to finish downloading GW2 because the backup he made before going on hiatus got corrupted. He’s been downloading almost 24/7 for close to a week now and only just reached the point where he can log in to check his character while the client streams the rest of the content. Definitely would have benefited from a physical copy and downloading updates instead.

Everyone started confused at one point, you just have to gird yourself and ask someone to help you learn.

Please change Ventari items to Healing Power

Well that would depend on how many people actually use the item set at the moment.
Obviously the data on that is not available to us but I daresay, not many.

Sorry, but that is a terrible argument. It doesn’t matter how few people you assume would be affected, it’s still a change that would affect builds for reasons completely unrelated to game mechanics.

I mean, really, how happy would you be if you got a Healing Power/Toughness/Vitality set and ANet suddenly changed it to Vitality/Healing Power/Toughness a year later because someone made the argument that there aren’t enough Vitality sets and your set didn’t have the right name?

It goes without saying that I’d be perfectly happy for both a Toughness/Vitality/Healing and a Healing/Toughness/Vitality set to exist together but somehow I doubt that’ll happen given the overlap in roles.

It’s not that unlikely, remember that Berserker and Assassin also overlap, as do Sinister and Rampager. Also two of the dungeon collection rewards are Vitality/Power/Toughness trinkets, which overlap with Soldier stats.

Nomad stats have been around for almost a year now, it’s a bit late to be calling it new or to ask for it to be changed, given people who have already invested into it did so with the expectation that it’s more for tanking than healing. Wouldn’t it be more than a little unfair to have that switched out on them just to satisfy your opinion on what it should be?

Hope a new, similar set with Healing Power as the main stat comes out for you one day though.

  • Guild halls
  • Continuation of the personal story
  • New items and skins

This is the list of features we were presented with, which is decent for an expansion, but the price we’re looking at now is closer to a full game or standalone campaign than an expansion, hence some of the complaints.

You spent $0 supporting GW2 in the past three years and you’re calling people who don’t like the expansion price penny pinchers?

What does that make you? Queen Scrooge Supreme?

You mean purchasing gems through Trading Post?

That’s an optional feature it wasn’t required or mandatory. Anet didn’t force you to purchase anything.

Missing the point.

It’s optional for you, but it’s required for the continued operation of GW2. Without people spending real money to buy gems GW2 would have closed shop months after launching. If you never bought gems with real money then you’re a penny pincher as well, but to your credit you’re a penny pincher who recognizes you can’t complain about the expansion’s price.

That’s not everyone though.

And $49.99 is no different

Again, I never said I never purchased gems. I pointed out as it is OPTIONAL feature as is the Currency Exchange.

Sorry, edited my post after you started replying, apparently. My point is your original argument is unfair as it only applies to people who spent less than a certain amount a month supporting the game (just $10). For everyone else the price of the expansion is not a deal at all, so they do have cause to complain.

If you didn’t mean for the topic to apply to those people in question, then I apologize for wasting your time.

That’s not everyone though, therefore your argument only applies to a subset of the community. Unless you have access to everyone’s spending habits, it’s a rather unfair argument to throw around so broadly.

I am honestly glad you are happy with your purchase, however…

Regardless, I’m not here to argue or anything, I’ve heard enough complaining as is, and I probably won’t even come back to this thread for this reason alone […]

Don’t throw out counter arguments if you don’t wish to engage in a debate, because that just wastes your time writing and our time reading.

Yes, let’s report ANet’s decision to make more money to the direct beneficiary of ANet’s decision to make money who happens to have a history of snuffing a popular MMO because it wasn’t making enough money.

I don’t see a flaw in this plan at all.

So bogotter make a video about the debacle.

Arena Net promoted Youtuber, any opinions can not be considered impartial or trustworthy.

How about actually watching the video and deciding if he’s impartial based on what he says instead? As a person who has been complaining about the $50 price tag, I find what he says to be mostly reasonable.
