The results so far are ridiculous. 80% of people want only solo or duo queue as the only option? I swear if this passes they need to ban people that whine about long losing streaks next season you have no more excuses for your awfulness. I’ve never seen a group based games where they have banned queueing as a group (not even a full group 3 or more) in pvp. This is nutty. I am astounded it looks like this is actually going to happen lol. The losers of the world are winning. Also, why isn’t this a poll on login? You would get way more responses asking all players as they log into the game this board is a magnet for the whiners of the world. How Mickey Mouse is it that this isn’t a log in poll? This whole thing is rigged garbage.
I definitely agree the poll should be conducted on login. But like everything in politics, there is a hidden agenda. If their goal was to improve gameplay for the population, a login poll would be a no-brainer. But if you are trying to appease the anger of a vocal minority, than you limit the poll to that group…
Hey guys,
So I was thinking; as a PvP player who has multiple level 80s, Tomes are pretty much useless to me and I’m just stacking them up to infinity. So instead of letting them waste away, why not let us use them to buy hero points!
We can already get PvE gear in PvP (ascended rings and necklaces, ascended gear from chests etc) so why not let us buy hero points with all the Tomes of Knowledge we’ve been stashing up?
I made a thread about this a little while back, but i was proposing we get mastery point experience. Either way it would be nice to do SOMETHING with them. Hell, let me sell them to the Vendors…
There’s no such thing as a free lunch…
You get a sample for free, you want the whole thing? Pay-up!
If you thought that the free version was going to put you on a level playing field with the paid version, you were fooling yourself. The free version is only there as an incentive. It let’s you see how the game works and allows you to test drive it to see if you like it. The game has always been buy-to-play. It’s misleading to say it’s buy-to-win, because even if you buy it, there is no guarantee you will win!
(edited by R O C.6574)
They already buffed thief. You now have better sound effects for short bow!
Blue, cause you’re the good guys. Red is the bad guy team!
Second, in the next few weeks we’ll be running a poll that asks if you’d like to see PvP Leagues switch to a solo/duo queue only system, rather than allowing rosters of any size (1 through 5 players).
I’m honestly abashed at how many people don’t get this.
It won’t be solo/duo queue AND 5 man queue, it will be ONLY solo/due.
If this goes through I’m done playing ranked. Playing with 4 pugs in ranked in this game is roulette at best. I won’t waste my time and sanity on it.
It really doesn’t make any sense to get rid of team que. Lot’s of people enjoy playing with their friends and limiting the teams to 2 man might be helpful for solo players but what happens to guild teams??
I finished the ascension in S3, but it’s the Gift of Fortune that is taking me the longest…
I thought i could just buy it all from TP, but i don’t have 1,000 gold to spend!
My advice against DH is to fight cheap with cheap.
When going against multiple DH, I swap to my core trap ranger build with signet of stone. With some practice and help from you pets (owl and drake), you could literally 1v2 DH.
I also play this build with the smallest possible asura so most of my pets are bigger than me.
DH is a low skill cap build aimed at getting PVErs to PVP. It’s quite annoying but in a way, it’s needed to attract more people to pvp. If they really bother you, I suggest you try my trap ranger build. You do not need HoT to play it and will always have the last laugh vs DH.
Another good trick w/ ranger is to name your pet the exact same name as your character.
Because they died. Facts don’t matter!
Funny thing is that people are quick to cry imbalance, but they’ll just faceroll others with a different kind of imbalance and it’s fine because because.
I think there’s a simple solution to the druid problem.
Make pet stats scale with the player’s amulet. Simple as that. No more tanking and dpsing at the same time.
^ this
Except that would horribly inbalance the pets themselves unless we rework every single pet to have the exact same base stats AS WELL AS doing a full rework on almost every single pet attack in the game.
Otherwise you risk breaking the class in one way or the other far more than it has EVER been broken before.
If you want to start doing the match on everything feel free. I don’t expect anyone at anet to do it when they are already trying to rebalance pets with the CURRENT system (as evidenced by the last balance patch and probably the next one)
I hate to say it but blanket (all you have to do is this) statements just show that the people that make them dont actually understand how pets in this game work. Or that they didn’t bother fully thinking their suggestion through across the entire spiderweb of effects there decision will make.
Edit: Fixed some grammar issues. I am sure I missed some others.
Yes. Bristleback f2 getting buff from berserker amulet sounds fun. I’m already dreaming up my power druid. You think people hate pets now? Just wait!
In case people don’t know: Only Test of Faith and Fragments of Faith don’t have a cast time. All the others traps have a ½ activation time.
Fragments of Faith being a stun break doesn’t make sense to have a cast, while Test of Faith is actually the only insta cast trap.
One could argue a cast time for Test of Faith won’t make much difference since when you activate it, you are inside the trap already so won’t receive any extra damage from crossing the blades, but, at least for me, it doesn’t matter if this trap gets an activation time or not.
Anet could reduce the radius of the traps, however, I think in the case of the Test of Faith is going to be a buff instead of a nerf since it will reduce the size of the “safe zone” inside the trap. It will be easier to push, pull and accidentally cross over the swords.
In case you did not know, Dh traps are the ONLY ones that do not have cast times.
You could argue this point all day if you want to but It needs to have cast times.
OR
Put a stunbreaker and boons on ranger and thieves traps as well.
Seems only fair right?
Wrong. While i’m not opposed to buffing the other traps, saying that’s what’s fair is BS. I can’t wait to see the qq on condi ranger traps that daze lol
If I was hired at anet heres the things I would change.
Skill differences between pvp and pve to bring more balance.
More game modes.
Skins that you can earn through pvp.
10v10.
The ability to watch twitch while in the heart of the mists. Cuz theres nothing else to do there…
Host anet tournements weekly.
Have monthly competitive tournements that would bring all the pros together.
If you told them that in your interview, I don’t think they would hire you. XD

Fixed the sound effect of the short bow’s arrow release for all thief skills. This is simply outrageous. Now thieves will be spamming short bow, distracting players from concentrating. How could you let this cancer happen? You’ve just created a new SB meta, that’s literally unbeatable. It’s a totally cheesy mechanic that doesn’t belong in the game. Please for the love of God, let us have a balanced meta for once?

so you cant see sarcasm right?
Lol. Seriously this is a problem. Thiefs already have too much evade, too much burst and now they have too much sound effects. I just played a match where all I could hear was thief short bow. It was so intimidating that I just went afk. Why did Anet decide thief deserved this op buff??
What were the other 2 classes I wonder? But really it sounds like you beat yourself. If you think you lost before the game starts, it’s really no surprise that you did indeed. Looking at the time stamps in the screenshot, i’d say you gave up after the opening team fight…. 3 Guards and 2 druids seems like a pretty broken comp though…
I do get what your saying. I don’t get why they can’t just take 10 players of similar mmr and divide them up to keep the number of classes as similar as possible

While to a large extent, we are not in a bunker meta anymore, I think there is still a problem with sustain in this game, especially for a few classes.
And I believe one of the main factor is the fact that many classes have too much reset potential: they can heal themselves from 0 to 100% HP very fast. This means that if you can’t damage them enough before their CD come back, you will have to restart from scratch. On top of that, many of those large heals have very short cast time which makes them very hard to interrupt.
A few noteworthy examples:
- Druid: celestial avatar is a full heal on a 10s CD. Yes, it actually takes a bit longer to generate the astral force, but in practice this is still very much OP.
- Dragonhunter: Purification trap is stupidly OP. 30s CD and 1/2s cast time for a 8600 heal (without healing power) and 1960 extra from Monk’s focus/Smiter’s boon. This is more than 10k heal on a class which has 11k HP base… Oh and I forgot it brings extra regen.
- Herald: while this has (in principle) counterplay Facet of Light allow for a 100% heal on a 30s CD… and this is only one of 2 heals.
- Tempest: for the elementalist, it is just the insane number of (AOE) heals available which make the reset insane, not one specific.
One non-offender for comparison:
- Necromancer/Reaper: Signet of vampirism = 6k heal at best (need hitting target) on 35s CD and 1.25s cast time. This is only 30% of the base HP of the class. No wonder they need babysitting. A better heal sustain-wise is consume condition. If the necro is loaded with all conditions in the game (highly unlikely or he would already be dead) this gives 15k heal, which is still “only” 80% of the base health pool. In general you should expect about half of this.
So yes, druid is too tanky because it has a lot of reset potential, and he is not the only one…
You really can’t compare classes this way. It’s a trade off. Necro has some of the highest ranged damage. If you want to compare, you need to take all mechanics into account to get a comprehensive view. Classes have different strengths and weaknesses and if your play style needs more healing maybe you should consider using a different class…
This is seriously out of control. Guardians REALLY are not that bad.
There have been plenty of people who play DH who have said the same thing. Far too effective for the effort to play. This has become the replacement for the last few seasons of scrappers.
In my opinion, what makes Guardian so effective right now is the ability to consistently decap a point while fighting your opponent. Is guardian in a better place than before? Yes. Is it OP? Not really.
Amazing. Best article i’ve read in a while. The last one is my favorite.
When you start to get salty remember: “you’re sitting on your couch playing make believe with a bunch of strangers”
I don’t see how this is any different than a person waking up and taking part in any other aspect of their life.
Clearly the author is going for comedy, but he’s no less a moron
Yes. Comedy. But there’s a little truth in every jest my friend. Not sure why you think the author is a moron…
There are lot’s of aspects of life that have more bearing on reality. If you mean entertainment i would agree, but i wouldn’t go so for as to say ANY aspect. Not sure how old you are, but if your out of college, there are probably a few people in your life that think video games are a giant waste of your time. All i’m saying is don’t take kitten too seriously. If you get legendary or not, it doesn’t REALLY benefit you either way. If guardian or druid is OP, you still have to pay bills.
But i agree, playing a video game is no different than watching sports. Both of them cause people to get angry about something that is supposed to be fun…
I feel like every time it’s the same status quo, just to positions changed.
It’s really just a place for people to take the game too seriously and to troll people taking the game too seriously
Amazing. Best article i’ve read in a while. The last one is my favorite.
When you start to get salty remember: “you’re sitting on your couch playing make believe with a bunch of strangers”
I think it should have always been that way. Anet probably didn’t come up with this idea until stronghold was implemented.
As has been mentioned before…
…No balance needed just l2p issue.
Yup
And here I was excited to finally play necro again. RIP the dream. sigh
PvP should not be balanced around taking away good options from stat combinations… if a build is too strong, the offending skills should be balanced, or counterplay skills buffed, not good choices taken away from all builds so that the strong builds are forced into sub-optimal stats to “balance” them.
Necromancer needs those stat combinations to be on par with other professions.
Necro needs defensive stats.. other professions have blocks, invulns, evades, invis, etc. All we really have is DS and we need to build it up to make use of it. It also scales off our own vit.
Necromancer is probably the most stat-reliant profession in the game.
You mean you need those stats to be OP lol.
So here’s a question:
If the meta is balanced except for Dragonhunters and yet Power Berserker, Druid, Scrapper, Power Revenant, P/P Thief and Tempest and Chronomancer (the good ones) can counter Dragonhunter, where does that leave the meta exactly?
People don’t like fighting against 3 or 4 DH trap builds, so they must be OP… Even though they have so many classes can counter them…
While i agree that it’s frustrating to get downed walking onto an empty point with 6 traps on it, it’s just as frustrating for your whole team to get nuked by a necro that is ranging into a team fight or insta-gibbed by a thief at some random spot on the map or stun locked to death by a warrior or watch mini-me engi negate the last bit of your burst passively.
There is counterplay, if the other team has 4 DH just assume that a freecap on mid will be stacked with traps. It’s not that hard to negate DH trap damage – Dodge, block, invuln… If you are rev, traps are a great way to get a full heal from Facet of Light.
You can make arguments that it’s the symbols or the blocks or blah, blah, blah not just the traps. But it’s just BS. Every profession has some skills that are frustrating to play against, just react properly and you’ll be fine.
Yeah except to play thief properly you need months/years of experience. To be as effective if not more on DH atm requires like 5 games.
While I agree that DH has probably the lowest skill floor (someone has to have it), a good thief is by FAR more effective. And honestly this is true of most classes compared to thief.
I do feel your pain, traps on an empty point are a kitten for thief
Nerf the traps size instead of nerfing blocks.
Now that is likely a good idea. Traps that are almost the size of points are a bit too good.
Just a thought- If the trap size of Test of Faith was smaller couldn’t it do more damage if you are trying to stay on point?
So here’s a question:

This is a stepping-stone to build templates. They will come in time.
Default builds were just added so new players could use the system and be more up-to-par than normal.
I understand what it is…But doesn’t mean i have to be happy with it
Would you prefer they held off default builds until build templates were completed?
How about they come out with build templates instead of default builds.
Its almost a joke, hey try our new default build, Anet will just have to recorde it to the next meta build after each broken patch update.
I have to agree with the video. You seem to be writing about the next step, well the next step for PvP many hoped for more build diversity and it isnt here.
If anet wants to dumb the game down sure fine its there game but it wont stop them from getting wrecked in unranked/ranked.
How about anet make build templates instead of dumb default builds, fix MM, make PvP seasons fun, create a better meta and some decent build diversity. I dont know maybe 2 quality builds for each class. I know its crazy but these are things that should be done and yes they should wait till its a finished product. I dont sell you half cooked food and you dont eat it.
Also im gonna post a pic, its a troll build and 3 of the 5 players im playing against were running meta builds. Please tell me how default builds implemented help anyone?
Help me out. How is this a troll build?
So like a DH i can place traps down, you run on them and even though you just activated them i have them ready for our fight because they are coming off a cool down. Now unlike DH traps you can just dodge threw them or use a skill that has a evade effect to go threw the traps and take no damage.
Now ranger traps dont provide anything for the team, they dont help me defensively in any way but if you run on them not seeing me or i set you up. And you dont know how your build works, have condi clear, access to resistance, among other things you need to know. You will die.
So why is it a troll build? Its a build where if i stun you or knock you down with teh spike trap. I can entangle you and apply 8 stacks of burn, 25 stacks of bleed, 10 stacks of psn and torment among entangle and chill. I can do this in about 5-7 seconds.
This build is a 1 trick pony and the question is do you know what to do? When i take it to ranked vs players running the smae builds as people in unranked i get squashed but in unranked you will hear the frustrations of not knowing.
I used to run this build with Wanderer’s Amulet and Krait Runes. It was aids in S3, but it hasn’t been as effective this season for me…

So… Isn’t Cele an abreviation for “celestial” I assume you mean “cleric”… celestial amulet was nerfed years ago.
This thread is full of kittens. Guard isn’t OP, your elitist BS is.
When I see a thief on my team, I’m in suspense. Either he’s good and we will dominate, or he sucks and we will get dominated…..
The problem is class stacking and squishy builds. Gaurdian is fine. There are plenty of counters. They aren’t any more broken than any other class. They just happen to be viable now. You didn’t have to worry about them before. Now thst they’re more than just a “noob killer” you are all saying they need a nerf. Typical forum BS. Are you saying they are harder to beat than engi, druid, warrior, mesmer, rev? If so, i’d say learn to play….
I like getting my dailies just playing regularly in ranked play. It’d be pretty annoying to have to play unranked or custom arenas for the extra 2g. I think they should get rid of the class wins and simply have it be “win a game”.
I would agree with something like this.
I have multiple legendaries, perma gathering tools and mail carriers and i got legend in all 4 seasons – what are you implying =.=
That you dont need to be legend and still can get all the others… so you could be God himself playing pvp your words dont weigh more and your wallet is the same as mine or the newbie’s who got his account yesterday. The guy I mentioned above may even worth more to Anet than you because he does not come on the forums to give criticism and make Anet look bad. He’s kept in the illusion that the game is fine. Just like the majority of the population. And the thin layer between the masses and the few beneficiaries are ‘us’ who are actually capable of seeing this game for what it is (a great-great potential wasted away carelessly and for profits) and demanding quality improvements. We are the unwanted journalists who get kicked out from the press conference.
I’d kick you out of my press conference. You’re not making any sense
If i could ban you from the forums Kuya.
Difference here above average players get rekt by DHs -.-
Above average players get rekt by DH??
L.O.L.
I have to agree with Kuya
I think it is a royal waste of time in a match b/c having someone on it is actually detrimental to trying to win the game.
Good Rotations trump Treb play 100% of the time, and if I’m in a ranked match and see one of my teammates go treb…..I’m not nice to them about that decision
^This, I really think it needs buffing. You can spam it on middle no problem, but it is harder to judge when your looking at home or far. There are players who seem tom think that Treb is needed to win a match no matter what, and most can’t use it very well, as the only other time you will use a treb is a few events/story missions/WvW. I do think if it’s going to be in the map, it needs to me more user friendly. Not everyone have the exp on it that other do.
Just ignore the fact HoTM has a Treb training area with different targets at Various distances and angles…. People could choose to get good at it but don’t
I like to treb the NPC prfession area in HotM. I can waste that NPC engi!
The Treb is a nice mechanic; it gives flavor, but any decent pvp’er knows how to deal with it when the other team seems to be misusing it.
The repair tool is by far the most useless feature though. I’d agree with the conditions comments others made and would add that the repair kit should be removed and give the treb a simply rebirth time, not unlike the trebs from Stronghold.
The trebs in stronghold are repaired by spending supply. Maybe we could have a supply drop that spawns in a random place, only one, that could be used for either treb. You would carry it passively like in Stronghold and the only way you drop it would be a stomp.
I so wish they would bring something new to that game mode. New paths or revamp the old ones. I have like 20 keys for the aetherblade path in TA. I had an lfg going for hours one day and only one person joined… WTF am I supposed to do with these keys!!
The problem is bias. You are never going to get the truth of the matter by letting the guy you can’t figure out how to dodge PoB tell you what needs a nerf.
I like where MithranArkanere.8957 is going with recording the builds of players. I would think you could develop an algorithm that takes game/player stats and looks for trends associated with certain builds. They key of course is identifying relevant data that aims you toward the goal of balance.
Any mathematicians care to take a stab at the number of possible build combinations per class?
This link says over 154 trillion for just warrior, but this was before HOT and the change to trait lines: http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/39758-guild-wars-2-total-build-combinations/
Once you figure that out, you could set up a “bucket” for each build to store data into. I’m thinking there will be trillions of “buckets,” but i’d imagine that there will only be millions that get filled. Once the data is collected it can be used to identify OP builds based on objective data. It sounds like a kittened amount of data, but i would think that the vast majority of these buckets will end up empty. Good Luck
I’m not the expert, but taking subjective feedback as a basis for change will not achieve the goal…
(edited by R O C.6574)
Did DH get some major buff prior to S4? Aren’t over half the issues you are discussing existing mechanics? Wasn’t DH a “noob killer” class that was “trash tier” in “high levels” of play?
How many backseat drivers does it take to ruin pvp balance? Just check the forums…
Nerf all classes with R in their name………….woo par for the course.
But then Elementalist/Tempest will be OP
Please Anet, I’m having trouble winning @ PVP. Can you nerf all the classes that beat me, ‘cause i’m really good and if i’m losing, it must be because the other classes are OP.
/sarcasm
Sure, all builds are equal. No need to balance properly.
/sarcasm
It’s near impossible to balance all builds to be equal.
I think between what we have and perfect balance exist plenty of room for improvement that is all too possible to achieve.
LOL
It wouldn’t matter. Once you think balance is in a good place, someone will start whining that your class is OP. This has been happening over and over. It’s what happens when you treat irrational qq like a rational request.
Please Anet, I’m having trouble winning @ PVP. Can you nerf all the classes that beat me, ‘cause i’m really good and if i’m losing, it must be because the other classes are OP.
