You are automatically lvl 80 in pvp…
Everything should be available in pvp…
I envision the map being made of floating islands with lots of vertical. The secondary mechanic could be some sort of interact that allows you to drop bombs while gliding or maybe it could disable the enemies gliding capability. You would have your glider mastery completely unlocked while on the map and they would be lots of ley-lines and updrafts to use to get around. Maybe there are some dragon/wervyn NPC’s that spawn and fly through the map for kill points. Or maybe the 2nd objective allows you to transform into a dragon and you could fly around like some sort of mobile trebuchet. It would just be another game mode to choose from. We like options don’t we?

You’d still have the issue of f2p accounts queue’ing up for the new mode and finding themselves helpless on the map. Or you’d still need to code to differentiate f2p vs. b2p. ANET hasn’t shown willingness to work code.
You wouldn’t be able to queue up if you don’t own HOT. (They have lot’s of things gated. If a F2P account tried to check the box, the game would direct them the purchase HOT window.)
And if you don’t like the idea of a PVP match with gliders, you would simply leave the box for that game mode unchecked.
I honestly think this would be very cool. ANET won’t do it though. It would exclude f2p players.
In turn that would require coding for the matchmaker to differentiate f2p vs. HoT accounts.
This would short circuit neo-smurfing, (the practice of playing on a secondary f2p account for quicker matches or simply to stomp people by being matched under one’s skill level. )
I’ve found that ANET generally avoids any change that would require coding or displease a particular sub group of players.
if it’s a checkbox next to stronghold and conquest that’s only enabled for HOT owners i think that would solve it
Seriously? No one else thinks this would be cool?
And stealth+super speed from Rune of the Trapper should last for 3-5 sec, so you could spam same trap to be permanently on super speed.
When Rune of the trapper first came out it was 4 seconds of stealth/superspeed. Then they nerfed it to 2 seconds and it became useless…
Glider pvp map.
I think it would be cool. Just make it a check box next to Conquest and Stronghold, but you can only check it if you own HOT. I’m thinking something like multi levels of floating islands w/ updrafts spread around the map. It would still be conquest
(edited by R O C.6574)
Can we please have a pvp map with gliders? Just make it a checkbox like conquest and stronghold, and you can only check it if you have HOT
I agree. I think removing solo queue was a huge error.
There’s no way I know of to convince anet of that though. They are apparently intent on creating “group” content. I think that too is a mistake.
My perception is that what is said in forums, stays in forums.
Please. Please. Please. Explain to me why using LFG for PVP is not a good option. Make it a 5 person party requirement to queue, then use the LFG to team up. I mean, if it’s got to be one or the other (solo queue only or team queue only) then the choice has to be team queue.

(in direct reply and relevant to the philosophy of the topic of this thread.)
Sadly, my Webster’s Unabridged is in that part of my library that is in storage at the moment. So, I refer to; “The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language.” Please excuse the sexist language. This is an older dictionary. The emphasis is mine.
He-ro (hir’o) noun 1. In mythology and legend, a man, often born of one mortal and one divine parent, who is endowed with great courage and strength, celebrated for his bold exploits and favored by the gods. 2. Any man noted for his feats of courage or nobility of purpose; especially, one who has risked or sacrificed his life.
I could go on typing. Note that the individual is emphasized time and again. Not once does this passage mention a group.
…WTF
So what’s the definition of Heroes (Plural)?
I guess i was wrong to assume this was a serious post.
Anet just needs to push PVP LFG. That way everyone is in a “premade.” It would be lame if you weren’t allowed to queue up with your friends, so I doubt Anet would force everyone to solo queue.
You do realize you could just edit your response instead of triple posting right? Anyways regarding the exact topic. So you are saying you should take the “Match Making Rank” component…. out of “Ranked Match Making”…
What we have now is definitely flawed, particularly in how they group up both people who are winning together, and those are losing together, PARTICULARLY the latter, because it just creates a feedback loop of losing/ill feelings. If POSSIBLE, the match maker should avoid putting together players that have recently been on a losing team together, if there are similar mmr candidates that they could be paired with instead.
This might just be a player population problem though.
It’s not “Ranked Match Making.” It’s “Ranked Arena.” The “rank” is achieved through climbing divisions. Climbing through the divisions is directly affected by your W/L record. In my mind, your place on the division ladder should be the only consideration in matching teams, anything more is bias team stacking.
PVP is a team contest…
When you solo queue, you end up with a team comp that anet figured out for you. If players had to queue as a team it would be similar to forming a dungeon party in LFG. I check the ranked pvp LFG every once in a while, no one uses it. But if you HAD to queue as a team, i think players would start using the function.
If you are a solo player you would just need to make a team in LFG before you queue. I really think all team is the way to go.
I think going all team PVP and completely getting rid of MMR in ranked is the way to go. Solo players would have to start using the LFG to make teams
You would face off against the team closest to your pip range
Why not only base match-ups on pip range?
All the BS with MMR is basically favoritism. If someone who is horrible at PVP and starts playing for the first time, their MMR will be equal to that of a lot of “average players.” So as these horrible players are tanking their fresh MMR, they are causing “average players” to lose with them. If you are slightly above average, you are much less likely to get pulled down with the noobs that are discovering how bad they are at pvp.
That being said, if you remove MMR and only consider pip range when selecting 10 players and then randomly distribute them into 2 teams, it couldn’t possibly be any worse than what we have now…
1-10: How to kill the remaining casuals that pvp.
Some thoughts: If you introduce a blank slate mmr it would not be extremely volatile the first few weeks because you would have on an extreme situation very experienced players playing with -not so- experienced players and have players similarly rise up (think of season 1) who don’t deserve to be at that division.
I’m pretty sure the reason why they don’t show MMR is hidden behind purely bad optimization on their back end, people were asking for this almost 3 years ago and the best response I got from a dev through private messaging was "I don’t recall why we don’t show MMR, but the algorithm is fairly difficult to understand. I’m sure I don’t even fully understand it, and I’m still working on that. " -2 years ago and since then the dev left Anet.
I feel the positives far outweigh the negatives on showing MMR ratings. It would neutralize a lot of complaining or validate it, depending on what the MMR shows.
Why would anyone not want to know what their MMR is? I’m not really concerned about arrogant players hating on my lesser MMR, and it would be nice to see how the matches affect my MMR and also see what the MMR of my teammates is vs the MMR of who i’m playing against.
So does the game client actually crash (close) or are you getting switched to your desktop with the game minimized. I ask because this has happened to me a few times were the game gets minimized, the timing always seems suspicious….
It would also open the doors to people flaming each other, any pvp game can be toxic, doing something like this will make it even more so. People will stop looking at how someone played and more on there MMR. You can have “bad” MMR but be a good player, everyone has to learn and get good/better at a game.
I can see the opening chat when ever a game starts,
“Nice MMR”
“We’ve lost this already”
“quit the game so you don’t coat us a pip”
“get back to unranked scrub, I’m. Not carrying you”Thanks but no thanks. PvP can be unpleasant enough as it is.
I think a lot of the toxicity comes from the lack of transparency on our MMR scores.
They should replace divisions with MMR rank. Each rank would include a range of MMR scores. You would then rise and fall in rank depending on your MMR.
What’s the big secret? Why are we not allowed to see our MMR? People think the game is unfair because we have no idea how the game REALLY rates us our what the rating of our team/opponents are.
What is the benefit of hiding our MMR? The only reason i can think of is it allows Anet to rig the matches. What other reason could there be? Tell me I’m wrong and tell why.
Does anyone have Champion Brawler. You need 10,000 wins…
I was asked by someone why I didnt have a title. I answered “whats a title?” and he quit the match ^^
That wasnt you by any chance?
No … lol … those who don’t wear a title don’t worry me at lot, I remove it very often.
I never quit, I try my best to play with the team but I usually foresee the outcome
I sometimes remove my title and guild. It makes you blend in with the minions/pets lol
We can argue back in forth all day, but until someone can prove something with some math its a baseless argument on both ends.
The existence of mmr hell/heaven in S2 has been proven with math. There was a big thread on it, even devs acknowledged it.
Good luck creating an mmr system that makes every game a close match regardless of team comp and individual player skill.
The problem is not that this matchmaking doesn’t manage to accomplish that. The problem is, it’s not even trying to. Quite the opposite, in fact.
That was season 2 bro. It’s way better this season
So i’m stuck in sapphire and I consider myself a mostly competent player, why exactly do you think I could be getting carried to Legendary? So if what you say is true, I could get an alt account and take my pristine MMR and go straight to Legendary. Sorry, not buying it. I do think if I figured out how to play through CC chains, condi melt, and hard focus, I would then be Legendary.
What I meant was… Say you have two players with similar skill, general competence, who end up on opposite sides of MMR. One of them could shine being matched with skilled players and ride a couple healthy streaks all the way to Legendary. While the other gets stuck with inexperienced players he/she can’t carry for most of the season.
As for alt accounts, if you’ve been reading this forum, you know that there are examples of people experiencing both extremes on separate accounts. But I wouldn’t recommend hopping on your alt acct until you feel comfortable playing in this meta. (No offense, but in your last sentence you clearly stated that you do not.)
I play condi trap druid. Most of the time i do pretty well. But there are just some matches were i get killed. It seems to be teams with good condi pressure and clense for their teams. So just to keep this on point, i don’t blame mmr or matchmaking. I blame my own experience and knowledge of the game.
People probably want to believe they earned their 20+ game win streak just as much as people want to believe they didn’t deserve their 20+ losing streak. In both cases, they likely didn’t deserve it. Of course there are a lot of excellent and terrible players, but any system that rewards and punishes them to this extreme is broken. Then you have the decent, mostly competent players caught in the middle getting stuck in Sapphire or carried to Legendary, depending on which end of MMR they find themselves on. It’s absurd.
Of course this is overly simplified, but it seems to be more or less what’s happening.

I’ve been stuck in T4 sapphire for 2 weeks with the most annoying 50% winrate ever. But you know what? I can look back at the matches i lost and see were things went wrong.
That still doesn’t wash the dirt of losing off your MMR though. For your improvement to see practical results everyone in your MMR bracket (now lower somewhat due to losses) also must improve their skill, which is very unlikely while your opposition gets stronger. The way the ranked algorithm works is low MMR gets put against higher MMR, so if you have lower MMR your chances of getting stronger opposition (five people vs. you and four others, your MMR is the same as theirs but your actual skill may be way higher) the less likely you’ll be able to carry.
Are you saying my MMR suffers more for losses than it improves for wins? I would think a 50% winrate would keep my MMR in the same place. I’m not buying it.
Also, the matchmaking grabs 10 players with similar MMR and puts the top 5 on one team and the bottom 5 on the other. If your MMR is dropping, you will eventually end up in the top 5 of a lower rated group of 10. So you don’t necessarily have to “carry” to “climb” out of MMR “hell.” But since we are talking about “carrying,” shouldn’t you just be playing to win every match? If you got scrubs, play to win. If you got average team, play to win. If you are a PVP superstar, play to win.
It would be nice if this forum was full of build theory and play strategy, but it’s mostly full of complaining, complaining, complaining. FYI complaining is what losers do
How does an NFL team have an 0-16 record for the season? Must be bad matchmaking, right? No. Not right. It’s bad teamwork.
Like when when we lose a teamfight at the beginning of a match and 2 people on my team say GG in team chat. That’s a loser mentality. I’m not saying get good, just stop lying to yourselves.
Thats the definition of bad matchmaking. They were partnered with bad players.
I can’t tell if this is sarcasm or not. We are supposedly being matched with players in our MMR range and are matched against players slightly above or below the MMR of our team. My experience in S3 reflects this. I’ve had a couple of blowout loses, but those are caused by AFK/DC scumbags, not Anet matchmaking algorithms.
My analogy is trying to show that even a premade team of professionals can go a whole season without winning: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_Detroit_Lions_season
This upsets me more than any other comment in this thread. Low blow.
LOL. Go Chargers! (if it makes you feel better my team sucks too)

It’s all part of Anet’s 50% win-rate algorithm
Seriously…
Isn’t there something real you can complain about?
I have noticed that I can easily kill nearly all rangers, when I see one on the enemy team I feel great because its almost a guaranteed free kill. Of course there are some very talented players who are good at getting away or kiting, but in 100 games I might see 2 of those.
In contrast it seems either the other classes are very strong or are only played by very skilled players. With most of the other classes its more like out of 100 games I might see 2-5 players that seem to be weak and the rest are either unkillable (condi warrior, some ele builds, and most engis) or at the least a challenge.
What build/ profession do you play? You might be playing a counter
I don’t have HoT, but I mainly play burn guard, trap condi ranger, and thief-either condi or burst. Are they hard to beat on other classes?
i play a trap condi druid. it seems to work very well.
People say “Nerf thieves!”, then when they get in a match with more than one thief “So who is switching?”
Well let’s be honest here, there are alot of wannabe Thieves who are really bad. If you have more than one Thief on your team, the odds are pretty high that at least one of them sucks.
but 2 bad scrappers, 2 bad wars, 2 bad chronos, 2 bad eles is NP
somehow magically majority of thieves are supposedly bad but majority of other classes players not…..and thieves are OP supposedly as well, what a paradox
Its because they are not an effective point presence that people get kittened when they get more then 1 of them on there team. How can you hold 2 points for a majority of a match with 2 people playing a class that can die to random cleaves and aoe quite easily in any fight greater then 2v2? Thats the problem with 2 thieves. They are a +1 and 1v1 class with zero point presence you don’t need two of those.
I haven’t had a problem winning w/ 2 thieves on my team since the update. If you jump into the middle of a 3v3 team fight as a thief, you’re an idiot. A thief’s presence in a team fight should be on the edge waiting to burst enemies w/ low hp.

2 thieves that know their game are a huge asset. The amount of mobility should keep you ahead on rotations and the “right place right time” bursts should keep you winning the skirmishes.
Ok. Take a guess, what’s the average online player base for diamond/legendary? That’s really what we’re talking about. There’s plenty of lower tier players, just look at all the MMR complaints and “my team sucks” complaints.
Let me clarify. If you progress to diamond/legendary in the minor league in a season, the next season you go into the major league. Two separate ladders
Basically a minor league and a major league. You would get “drafted” into major league by achieving top rankings in minor league. You might even allow players to get dropped back into the minor’s by failing to progress to a certain point in a major league season. Thoughts?
How long were you queued before you got those matchups?
Day 8 rant: People are complaining that legendary players are ruining their sapphire party
Apparently queue times are ridiculous in upper tiers right now. So why rush it right?
Let me say this: if you continue to blame the MM or other teammates for your losses, you will never improve because you don’t know what YOU are doing wrong. You know who you are. Suck it up and do something about it.
Try and see how many profession NPC’S I can kill at once
Was it during off peak hours?
Rule of thumb should be if you d/c, restart your computer, wait a few min, then login. Problem is, if you try to log back in, you go straight back into the match. And you’re probably still lagging. ..
