Tier 1 is not balanced right now 3 days in and JQ is already winning by 40k points, sure us and SoR don’t belong in tier 1 anymore because we just can’t compete. We’re both tier 3 servers at best.
If you and SoR cannot beat JQ I don’t think any other server can at the moment.
SOR doesn’t belong in T2 either. When you were there the point spread between SOR and the rest of us was even larger than the 40K you are griping about. Of course SOR was pwning everything and everyone in sight.
Which is better?
Top of the Tier and rickrolling everything in sight with no challenge?
Or fighting a super server or 2 and barely maintaining your place in that tier (or any tier for that matter) sure brings out the best in a server.
At one time I thought it was better at the top of the heap, but after fighting with TC these last weeks and watching the server really come together in the face over sometimes overwhelming odds/zergs. I wouldn’t trade anything for the experiences and fun we’ve been having.
Or the challenges.
Raf Longshanks-80 Norn Guardian / 9 more alts of various lvls / Charter Member Altaholics Anon
Have you tried joining a WvW guild or avoiding TCBL? At least, that’s where I assume you’re going based on the description.
I wasn’t about to throw myself at guilds just yet until I got more experience. I played Warhammer for years, but I was a Zealot (healer). Now I’ve been running out there as a thief. I don’t do too badly, I guess. But I still don’t fully understand the setup. And yes, you are right. Borderlands. I don’t think I’ve gone beyond the top half of the map yet, as we keep fighting over the same 3 or 4 areas all day long. We don’t have enough people, and it’s frustrating. Every time we go to take a keep, a group 4x the size of ours comes out and it’s like a freight train running over a basket full of kittens (<—— not a bad word, I mean literal kittens, just to be clear). Fight to take one of the three supply camps, our garrison, lose them a few minutes after. Wash, rinse, repeat. Try to take the eastern keep, fail, run back, die again . . . you get the picture.
It is a bit of a quandary, JW. In T3, TC was top of the heap with no contenders and no challenge either. In T2, we’re fighting for our very lives against 2 servers whose populations dwarf ours.
TC may be 3rd in T2…..but it is T2.

For pity’s sake ANet, can’t you do something about this? I don’t know how many times yesterday Commanders found their ability to communicate on map & team suppressed…so much so that they were asking in voice for us to relay their requests to the team.
If nothing else, how about instituting a Commander Only toolbox of Chat macros that could go out to either team, map, squad or whatever combo of chats? Maybe something like :
“insert commander name here” Go to Citadel…or Hold…or On Me…or whatever.
Not to mention that trying to type and fight has its own issues.
So you think commanders should have the right to spam chat more often then non-commanders? Are commanders more important then non-commanders? Is the $60 I paid for the game of less value then the $60 you paid for your copy?
For pity’s sake, learn how to use squad chat.
For pity sake…learn to use “ignore” ((shrug))….don’t really see your point.

No, it doesn’t….just play the game. Take things as they come, play the DE’s if you run across them. I have 9 toons…4 of them in Exotics that I crafted. I’ve only run 5 dungeons since August and those were just to help out guildies…not my thing.

I usually make enough in WvW to cover repair costs plus a lil extra. But I play pvE on alts when I want to make some extra coin. Just take off across whatever map I’m on and see what comes up.
Raf Longshanks-80 Norn Guardian / 9 more alts of various lvls / Charter Member Altaholics Anon
I think the Loot issue is overblown. I’ve leveled up all the crafts with stuff I’ve harvested and looted / sold. Sure, you run into shortages on mats…in which case, you either go play some more & make more coin. Sell excess mats, craft & sell rare items and buy more mats.
I never have a ton of coin, but I’m never so broke I can’t waypoint anywhere I want. Or make/buy anything I want.
And I’ve never had to buy gems to convert to gold. I’m not really sure what gripe is? The fact that the game won’t let you become rich as Croesus in a month or 2? How much gold is enough?

Keep a slot open for a new alt….run through the various cities for transmute stones upon completion. I have multiple alts anyway, so its not been that much of an issue. But I could easily delete a low level & reroll a new toon if I found myslef unable or unwilling to purchase transmute stones.

Quit doing DE’s at level or sub-level…..go to an area 4-5 levels above you. Kinda hard to do at 80, but down scaling only works one way for lower level toons. I prefer soloing higher level areas on lower level toons personally.

seriously, a no-cost no-cooldown skill that does the majority of your dps was a bad idea

See how far you get in paid tournaments and then talk. Some of those teams are pretty kitten good. Much better than other teams. So there must, logically be some skill involved.
In fact, SPvP itself is less about 1 guy and more about the entire team anyway. If you’re soloing PvP and thinking you’ve learned your profession, you probably haven’t.
This would be the case even if every class were the same and only had one button to press, so pretty irrelevant to the discussion.

GW2 has ruined all mmos for me. I think all future games are going to be run like this. GW2 seemed to be the shining beacon that would respect the player and our time, but even it got corrupted.
I now believe every MMO is run by dishonest people and are going to string me along, making my experience frustrating, unrewarding and a waste of time in order to pressure me into paying to win. And I feel like as a community we are enabling them more and more to release bugged content and unfinished games due to our impatience, fickleness or addiction. They’re going to find better and better ways of manipulating customers, duping them, pressuring them. I see it as only getting worse in the future and will stay away from MMOs after I can’t bear GW2 anymore.

I really can’t say how much it costs. I have only spent about 70s on the TP to level my crafting, I saved all my crafting stuff myself and never sold anything.
But if I did, there would have been value in that, so you could say I “lost” coin by not selling the materials and leveling a craft instead.
My biggest problem right now are the T6 bloods. I want to make my own exotic bow, but I need 25 bloods to make the dowels for the insignia. I can’t find this blood anywhere. I know I can use the mystic forge with T5 bloods, but geez, should’t I be able to find the actual materials I need without having to lose 50x T5’s just to get maybe 8 or so of T6?
I don’t want to buy the from the TP. I don’t want to use the mystic forge. I want to go out, find my bloods and make my own bow. Since the legendary is just a dream, aptly named The Dreamer since I’m a SB ranger, this is the best I can do.
I want to do it myself. Trolls in Frostgorge, no go. Skelks in WvW, no go. Sigh. Two weeks now and still not even close to my bow.
I understand wanting to do it yourself. But, buying and selling on the TP is as much a part of the game as questing for it. If you’ve never bought anything, you likely have stacks of 250 of lesser mats. Split the stacks, sell them off…then buy whatever T6 blood you are missing with the take from the lesser mat sales. And get your new bow.
Trade was as much a part of life in the distant past as it is now.

Yeah dodging in Tera is ruined by the rooted attacks.
Makes PVP both painfully dull and also unintentionally hilarious.
Pretty much this. The combat system in TERA is inferior to GW2 because of that one lil kitten-up on the part of their devs. They just stopped too soon.
I like the artwork better here though. TERA always felt kind of washed out for me on my system. Where as the scenery here is crisp and colorful.
Played TERA for about an hour during a beta, combat seemed to be see telegraph attack coming, go get a drink and sandwitch, come back move character to side back stand and cast, repeat. What really killed me where how the female characters ran like a duck wanting a little loving, just sick.
Well that and the telephone pole size weapons. The gigantic weapon thing really irked me there. I think a lot of weapons here are overly large too…but nothing like Tera was.

Me too…use the forums at work. But the comunity in game on TC is pretty darn good.
Here, like so many internet forums, people who didn’t find what they were looking for in this game still continue to haunt the forums…desperately hoping to bring someone around to their viewpoint. Why?
I really can’t fathom the mindset of someone who quit playing a game they dislike but continues griping in the forums. I played my last game for over 4 yrs…but its never even occurred to me to go back to its forums and whine about it?? Whats the point?

Spatial skills, men have them.
Women multitask better, this has been proven.
And we do during videogames because we can and our brain knows we can, so we think about everything at once and not just the task at hand which isn’t always good on our part. Been playing games for about 12 years now. Still have to work on concentrating because I feel I should also be whispering someone or talking in vent or doing other things at the same time.
Isn’t it funny how different people seem to find only those bits info which supports their beliefs? Taken entirely out of context.
The entire article uses quite a few terms and/or language like….“studies seem to suggest”……“it is believed”…..coming to the the conclusion at the end that there really is no conclusiion because for all the studies out there….people are still people and neither gender can conform totally to the findings of any study.

People seem to think if they farm the mats they’re free. That’s not correct. Those mats still have a value, so I would keep that in mind when calculating costs to level it.
Even if the mats have “value”, its still not gold out of your pocket if you harvest / play. That said, even though I harvest everything in sight (outside of wvw) when playing pve, I still have to supplement mats off the TP to craft.
Its not a free ride to leveling no matter how you look at it. But, where crafting will save you a lot of gold is being able to craft your own exotics for multiple alts.
If I only played 1 or 2 alts, I’d never touch a tradeskill. Putting number to it would be difficult since you sell crafted items back on the TP or at a merchant. Or once you’re crafting items 68 or above, you’re salvaging them for ecto (or selling them if the going price is higher than ecto…then buying ecto and pocketing the change)

Yeah….nice change too, IMO. Though, its not as bad as some make it out. Exotic (or above) geared toons still have an advantage. But it can still surprise you if you go in expecting a cakewalk.

The game works just fine for some folks…and not so much for others. There is plenty to do from 1-80 on any class on any given day. But if you can’t wrap your head around whats available? Then, ((shrug)) this game probably isn’t going to work for you.
That said…none of us really care if you are going to quit. If I get tired of any game, I just tell my friends I’m leaving. But I don’t feel the need to come to any forum and rant about why I’m leaving.

$20-25 is a fair price. Was same in EQ2 for years before they went F2P. You’ve had ability to transfer anywhere free since August. And now you’re bemoaning having to pay?
Raf Longshanks-80 Norn Guardian / 9 more alts of various lvls / Charter Member Altaholics Anon
More armor/weapon skins (want a rapier!) …different than what avail in game might be nice. Other than that , all I ever get from the gem shop is transmute stones.

But i blame Fractals of the Mists, before that dungeon and Ascended turned up, this game and its community were pretty good, after that it divided the community real bad added elitism and it just degenerated from there…
Unfortunately…true. But the whine about “nuthin to do at 80” before was pretty intense here. Seems less now…but maybe I’ve just gotten used to it.

Lack of mounts is one of the reasons I absolutely hate traveling in GW2. Get rid of 90% of all waypoints and give us mounts. Then we’ll talk about exploration.
Don’t use the waypoints if you you don’t like them, but why do you feel the need to inflict your style of gameplay on everyone else?
Had mounts in other games, they were cool..got a speed buff too. But they were always available from day one and were part of the game. Not the same here, but thats ok.
Its a broom , fer pete’s sake. Not a mount. It doesn’t give you anything except an appearance. Some folks need to lighten up.
Raf Longshanks-80 Norn Guardian / 9 more alts of various lvls / Charter Member Altaholics Anon
I think whats become even more obvious is that for all bombast about wanting something different. People actually don’t. They want vertical progression, the trinity, rewards, rewards, mounts, gear progression and raiding…they want the game to give them goals instead of finding them on their own.
And they’ll stop at nothing to get the one game that actually tried to let them use their imaginations…to give them what they want. In some ways, sadly, they’ve succeeded. Even though there are myriad other games that fulfill those needs.

Same here. We don’t use an officer structure any longer. It just seperates people as we learned in previous games. We have one Guild Leader and rest of us are just members. And, since we’re all adults, that suits us just fine. We don’t actively recruit, we just run across the odd player here and there that seems to fit in…and oops..we found another member.
But, also…we don’t try and run scheduled events of any sort. Work schedules and RL just don’t allow for anyone being able to make commitments like that anymore. If groups gel on any given day/ evening..then cool. Otherwise, no biggie.
Perhaps the active event scheduling you were trying to do was making peeps feel pressured to attend things they didn’t have time for?

I have a level 65 thief that I’ve solo’d in pve all along. It will probably be my 4th lvl 80…or maybe my Guardian. Not sure as both are about that level. That said, I’ve been using sword / Pistol & dagger / dagger….gave up on my shortbow because its boring.

It only becomes a grind to the players whose mindset is they must have the best right now. If you take the game in the context of playing for several years, there is no grind…just the game. And along the way, you collect the stuff you want or need…or not.
