Hey again guys, just had a chat with some of the other admins. The rule we have set in our GW2 events is mainly to circumvent EU participation in NA and vice versa, not disallow SA/Brazilian players from participating. Brazilian and other South American players should not have issues participating in future events from this point forward as “NA players” via our rules.
The problem that occurred last weekend should no longer occur in the future so long as teams have 3/5 representatives from NA/SA when they initially sign up. Apologies on my part for the problems that may have been caused by this confusion last weekend, and we hope to see you guys participating this Sunday.
If a person sitting in the EU tries to play an NA tournament, won’t they face unacceptable amounts of lag at a competitive level? Isn’t that enough of a demotivator for them trying to participate?
If the lag is not a problem, I find it weird that Anet wants to prevent players from EU playing in NA tournaments. I mean – in this context, real world locations signify nothing. Is there some kind of patriotism, or loyalty or something at work here? Are we really looking at artificial things like “American” and whatnot?
Unable to understand the logic…
All i know is that half the classes in the game can be played at 300 + ping
Just because they can be doesn’t mean you can be 100% effective on them. I miss half of my burning speed dodges on NA due to slight skill delay with 160-200 ping whereas I get almost all of them on EU.

As a note, we’re aware of the odd interaction between elementalist downstate and Vampirism runes and are tracking a fix for an upcoming build.
Rune of Vamp downstate bug was fixed on Tuesday.
Why exactly was this not announced prior to the ESL monthly finals that just took place? I feel this had a significant impact on the outcome of several matches, I personally know I would have fared far better if I had vamp to deal with taunt+cc bursts.
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
I’ve decided to take a break from the ESL scene after some recent frustrations, mostly revolving around being forced to play with pug teams due to teammates being MIA for the past month, which has often ended in disaster.
I’m therefore going to be offering help to newer players and/or teams. I would prefer players who are actually actively playing PvP, not just playing two games a week. I don’t pretend to be a master of the game (I haven’t even fully mastered a class), but I do have a wealth of tournament experience (most of which was spent as either a team captain or otherwise providing a key part of team rotations) and I also have experience playing just about every class and build that has been meta over the last year. I have placed first and second in AG tournaments within the last month.
EU or NA is fine, but I usually won’t stick around late evening NA time. If you’re interested, either pop me a mail on my EU account (Random Weird Guy.3528) or add both of my accounts and whisper whichever one happens to be online (Random Weird Guy.3528 // Random Weird Guy.4985).
P.S. I may join an EU AG team if I like you enough.

Oh you’re talking about priority order.
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
This never left? There’s a reason pure condi comps don’t exist in tournaments.

Of course people who don’t have full visibility to the back end of PvP will ask for solo q.
Asking “Would you rather queue up solo only against other solo queue people or mostly against other solo queue people” is a no brainer…
But there’s a couple missing pieces to this assumption:
1) Players often don’t accurately recognize “premades” and often assume that the other team has people who queued together while their team is all randoms. The psychological effect of negativity bias plays into this too where people are more likely to remember being paired against a strong premade than the times when they had a strong premade on their team.
2) We don’t know exactly how many people are queueing for PvP at one time.
3) We don’t know the full mechanics of the MMR system.
Because of 2 and 3, we don’t know exactly how good the queue times and matches would be in a solo Q world.
And finally, maybe a lot of people here are new or simply have forgotten, but there were a lot of problems with the reward balancing of solo Q and team Q. Before they were merged, people would often just queue for Team Q even while solo because the rewards were better.
The rewards problem is easily solved – just have the same rewards for solo and team q – like it should have been in the first place.
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
Let us queue anywhere BUT any map switch (including the end of match switch in hotjoin) will cause you to be kicked from the queue.
This solution provides all the same benefits of the current system, which is designed to counteract players getting stuck in infinite loading screens, but also allows players to stay within a single zone (such as forging things in LA or completing a zone) or play in a private arena with no game start (and therefore no loading screens).
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
Im fine with it mainly because it will teach a lot of you people that the merged queues is not really whats driving your w-l record. You will all find something else to cry about when your win loss record hardly budges when solo queue comes back. I do think solo queue allows for more competitive matches on average but I stick to my guns that you wont necessarily win more then you did as a solo player in the merged queue.
It’s not just about winning everything. For a start, it’s also about playing the same game. You can’t just make up for lack of organisation from being full soloq with raw mechanical ability, that’s like making up for the lack of meat in a lasagne with more cheese – soloq and teamq is like a different game altogether.
It’s also about top players streaming. They will never stream their team queues since it puts their strategies at risk and soloq’ing with high mmr puts you vs premade team with significantly less experienced players on both sides and that is no fun to watch. Watch the video I linked from Helseth if you don’t believe me. http://www.twitch.tv/thelordhelseth/v/13478223
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
1v1 ability is just a portion of what counts and is also directly linked to raw mechanical ability and knowledge of counterplay, both of which greatly impact your team fighting capabilities as well, not just your 1v1s.
I’m probably the worst ele in the NA ESL scene when it comes to winning 1v1s (the 160-200 ping doesn’t help), but it doesn’t mean I contribute any less than other eles in the NA ESL scene.
Likewise when I play mesmer (which I do for most pugquest tournaments and I also played mesmer in round 1 of the most recent AG when we had to sub someone for that round) – I am absolutely atrocious at 1v1ing and lose 1v1s vs most players of my level, but I still get by.

Vote on this poll. If we get enough votes, hopefully it will show ArenaNet how much this is needed. The league system will make this an even bigger issue with premade teams having a significant advantage.
If you want a proper analysis on why gw2 needs a soloq, go here:

Since GW2 doesn’t hand out cash prizes for tournaments, its a non-issue.
I take it you don’t realise that the first and second place team receive cash prizes.
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
People actually care about rank? This screenshot from the finals of the last AG tournament shows you how much rank matters.
If ArenaNet wants rank to mean anything, they would have to make tournaments award substantial rank points while lowering points gained from queuing. Something along the lines of 50k/20k/10k points for top 3 places in the ESL cups, a fifth of those for AG cups and halving all rank point gain outside of these. I seriously doubt they’d do this though, just a bit of theorycraft.

Due to last minute dropouts, our team (Best Team North Africa) is in need of players to sub in for the Monthly Final this upcoming Wednesday. We have 3rd place seeding for this tournament, which means that we will not face Abjured until the finals (if we reach the finals) and will also not face Radioactive until the semi-finals.
Please note that we would require players that are dedicated to practice sessions on each evening leading up to the monthly final. Players are also required to have previous tournament experience (ESL or AG) in order to minimise time spent practicing rotations.
If you are interested, please send a mail to me including your main class and build, as well as other build or classes that you are confident on at an ESL level. Also include any relevant tournament experience.
I will only leave this open until Tuesday morning due to the need to practice.

I took part in the Kessex invasion and gained several stacks, but my mac beta client crashed. I logged back into the same map as I was in a party, but lost all the invasion stacks I had gained despite never leaving the map.

Are you using the meta build with stealth on steal? One way to burst is heartseeker+steal => backstab. Use steal mid-way through the cast, but try to leave it as late as possible. You want to land steal and heartseeker at almost the same time otherwise the heartseeker with reveal you. You will then get stealthed and simply hit 1 to backstab.
Bear in mind that thief isn’t supposed to one-shot things from full hp (unless they’re running a really glassy spec), it’s either used at the same time as someone else’s burst or to finish off a target.

Already been brought up several times in the last 3 months, wouldn’t surprise me if this is part of the ele nerf that’s supposedly happening.
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
For example,
A Ranger named Blue Lord and also names his/her pet Blue Lord.
Do you honestly have difficulty telling a player apart from the lord?
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
Necromancer (cele or condi) wins pretty much every 1v1 matchup, more matchups that d/d ele wins.
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
if a class can kill you in 10 seconds when he uses every manoeuvre perfectly and you use every defensive manoeuvre perfectly, your dodge, defensive skills, gapcloser/creater, heals, etc perfectly.
Then you should be able to kill that class in 10 seconds as well when he uses his skills perfectly and you uses yours perfectly.
This is the stupidest thing ever, this is an MMORPG not a FPS. The class rock/paper/scissors mean that teams have to actively think about who they are sending where depending on where the enemy has their classes. One of the reasons why Abjured did so well in WTS was because they would send their necro to 1v1 the enemy ele and force him off the point, not send a thief or engi. If all classes have the same chance at killing each other within the same time, you are dumbing down this game massively.
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
D/D thief with scholar runes, zerker amulet and 2+ signets can kill things in 1 second. Does that make that build OP?
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
Even with your suggested changes, fall trait would still be pointless to take compared to other traits. How often are you going to be taking fall damage in a fight? And you’d be wasting a lot of time if you keep running up to high places just to get the fall damage off when you could be doing other things.
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
This thread makes me facepalm so much.
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
Have you actually gone through the ‘normal’ specs and compared them?
Ele – obviously going without tempest is still viable.
Warrior – str/def/dis is probably still more viable than zerker.
Mes – Despite people saying that chrono is OP, what are you meant to drop for it? Chaos line is too powerful to drop, so is duelling, only thing that can be dropped is dom but I wouldn’t say duel/chaos/chrono blows the current meta out of the water.
Thief – What’s d/p thief meant to drop for daredevil? Panic strike too strong, trickery is impossible to drop, SA gives too much team support. Sure s/d thief with daredevil is strong in soloq, but d/p thief with SA is always going to be more useful in team play.
Guardian – Another obvious one.
Can’t really say much about the others because I don’t know enough about them.
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
They said no last beta weekend. Do you really need to ask or are you just being intentionally dense?
Well obviously I didn’t know this. And yes I took part in ESL last beta weekend, but I was added to the roster at the last minute and didn’t do any prior research.
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
Any official response? If not, I’m just going to turn up with one since there isn’t any mention of this in the rules.
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
It’s a beta. How many game betas carry rewards through?
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
Agreed, came up against one today, it just stood there and soaked up the damage we got it down to about 20% health then suddenly it had every boon known and health was full, and it ran off, there is tanking then there is this.
So basically that person used the revenant equivalent of Defiant Stance. Nobody complains about defiant stance because it’s easy to work around.
As for Herald being tanky, it would have been using clerics or sentinels and I seriously doubt it’s any tankier than a staff ele using either of those amulets or even a guardian.
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
When you have to ban about half the builds in the game, that’s saying something…
Yes, it’s saying that half the builds in the game are sustain builds and would make the tournament unnecessarily long.
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
Are elite specialisations from the beta event allowed in the Go4 cup on Sunday?
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
No! These dc are great! It’s the only way for me to leech loot from teq or vinewrath with no work and not wasting time
I can’t even…
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
Would have to rename skill. Retreat indicates going the opposite direction, not just any of them, from your opponent.
Tell that to the guardians with their retreat shout and eles with burning retreat.
Burning Retreat makes the ele go in the opposite direction too, what’s the issue?
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
You block and/or report and move on. I don’t know why people respond to trolls/ragers.
Ive had ragers challenge me to 1v1’s, so I fight them a few rounds, talk about builds and tips, then when they calm down we go our separate ways. I’ve learned some things like that, so I guess I really don’t mind responding to ragers.
Unfortunately ive never been lucky enough to get salt in the mail.
That’s weird, whenever I’ve had ragers challenge me to 1v1s, it usually resulted in me beating them and them saying something along the lines of ’you’re still bad’.
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
Play a bunker (dd ele is included in that). It is much easier to carry a solo team as a bunker.
No it’s not. Pugs have a tendancy to zerg everywhere and as the bunker you either have to follow them in order to win fights, or go cap/defend a different point and watch the rest of your team slowly die without any sustain. I used to soloq on bunker guard a lot, but I gave up after this kept happening.
It’s also frustrating being in a 4v4 and having nothing on the enemy team die, while knowing there’s not much you can do about it.
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
(edited by Random Weird Guy.3528)
That would defeat the point of it being a ‘retreat’.
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
It should give a movement speed bonus instead of invuln
It already gives +66% movement speed along with the invuln.
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
Wait until these supposed ele nerfs before going to deep into this, since those would be before the next wts.
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
Because you can’t take away your weapon while in downstate, which makes sense. You CAN, however, cancel your own downstate casts by pressing escape.
Well you can’t take your weapon away in rampage, but I can still stow the skills. And I don’t understand why they don’t just give stow weapon the exact same functionality as esc with regards to cancelling things.
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
As soon as someone starts flaming you for no apparent reason, just block and move on. You can unblock him a few minutes later if you want, it’ll still stop him from flaming you.
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
Now I’m definitely not against this change, but these stats don’t actually provide that much relevant information. Most of the stats (most damage, healing, boons applied/removed) are maxed by just zerging around and spamming aoes everywhere.
If reviewing matches is that important to you, you should record your matches.
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
If you want to be able to carry in soloq, you want something with a lot of mobility to carry the team’s rotational errors. Mesmers are really good for this since you have a lot of mobility and can 1v1 most things if you outclass your opponent.
There’s nothing worse than being a bunker is soloq and having to stand in a team fight knowing that someone that someone has to go somewhere else, but going yourself would result in a lost team fight.
I decided to play mesmer instead of ele in pugquest tournaments even though I’m worse on mesmer purely because it’s far easier to carry rotations on mesmer.
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
Something I’ve wondered for a while, why isn’t it possible to stow downed skills? For example, stowing the necromancer fear to bait a dodge.
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
Or you know, just have a soloq…
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
I seriously think that servers need to reserver your spot for a minute if you disconnect, so that you don’t lose progress in any major events.
I disconnected towards the end of a tequatl run today, logged back in and I was on a different map. I’ve also had a few situations in Silverwastes where I take part in all the events leading up to the breach, just to disconnect during the breach and unable to join back in due to the map being full.
Either this or you need to do something about the constant mac client crashes in highly populated events.
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
What class/build do you play?
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
4th time now…
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
Doesn’t seem to exist in the WvW section of metabattle, which is where I assumed the roaming versions of builds would be.
Here on metabattle:

That’s rabid though, I guess celestial isn’t used at all in wvw for necros?

If the system didn’t allow 2 of the same class in a team, either queues would take twice as long or they’d be an even worse matching of player skill levels.
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
Be as aggressive as possible. This will force the mesmer to use their cooldowns more defensively as well as kite more, relieving pressure off yourself.

I find it funny how nobody complained on the forums when this thing happened ages ago:
