Well, the basic thing is that GW2 were never meant to have a “healer” class in it, therefore if you go with a DPS build, you will benefit the group much more (might stacking etc…) without loosing the water fields to blast. If the group is coordinated, the healing amount lost by not speccing into it is negligible.

You are looking at it wrong there is no healing class there are clearly healing builds for example triple mantra with heal on mantra mesmers can keep parties alive for days. Venom Thiefs can give a party 5 seconds of immortal face rolling. a bomb heal engi heals for small amounts but can have very very constant heals going off. Guards can mace heal while being practically afk. You can be very very effective at healing in this game on almost ANY class. and thats what they meant there is no heal CLASS there are instead heal BUILDS.

It has very low armor, but is very hard to die (stay way from frontline as possible). With this build I can do good damege as well. I really liked this build. For me is better than the boring full cleric. Any suggestions?

if you are roaming with friends yah its pretty viable to run ANYTHING if you are solo roaming in WvW your gonna get poked a little too hard without it

You are speculating that they have no stun breakers, and no condi clear. Which is why it is rather useless, because there are so many counters to its “strengths” that its not worth the trait points you need for it. using it in arcana, or water would be better.

stun break and condi clear dont make the damage dealt go away even if they go thru it with stability they still take the damage. and besides we are still talking giving up your 100% crit chance and some of your critical damage if you take those points away

well thx for confirming my first post, you get your restoration procs of upscaleds=easy fights, when the upscaleds are down/battleing a guildgroup your sigil won’t heal that much GG

Ew your one of those people who thinks WvW is for guilds to go to the deepest darkest corner of the map to fight other guilds arent you? No WvW is where 1-3 people per map assume leadership and the rest follow those people to take objectives. Unless PPK is enabled this game mode will not be a team deathmatch until then I will focus on killing the players following the enemy commander and whereever there is a taco on the map there will be upscales and i will utilize them as my personal heal kittenes so i can quickly and efficiently kill the players in full ascended. Any questions?

Inside of WvW people do drop like flies if you have a high damage build like this sooo many upscales. If i drop one meteor shower I down and then kill most of the uplevels before the shower even ends. The only other viable heal sigil is the vampiric one which a free 900 hp heal every 9 seconds is actually pretty nice and outside of WvW it would be my first choice.

it’s not working on vapor form only. vapor form is just a last chance saver with only 20 sec cooldown. throwing 2 in water will result in a loss of 100 ferocity+100 precision over only 100 vit+100 worthless healing. using cantrip CD reduction trait will force u to use cantrips aswell instead of ice bow+sandstorm (unless you want a 100% useless trait ofc xD) like i already mentioned sandstorm is one of the most OP skills in the game 55 blind ticks, 1.5-2k crits, 4 sec bleeding, ~300 dmge ish. Frost bow doesn’t need any explanation i think and arcane wave will give you some healing and might+fury uptime aswell and therefore definitely worth it.
bolt to the hearth trait =20%more dmge/-33%HP is usefull because of the bonus dmge to low HP, if it was above 2/3 health, it would actually be okísh but not fantastic. under 1/3 health will mean that the enemies are probably retreating and you need to kill them asap be4 they ran back to the restack. giving you that extra 20% gives you that difference btween catching them or not.

by adding 2 points in water you’ll lose alot of damage potential while only gaining a small amount of surviveability. When you’re getting gankers on your kitten you still can’t survive long with 2 points in water. you can go 02066 with full zerker, however you’re talking about a totally different build in that case

i dont think you quite understood when i said “i agree with you” but i AGREE. XD its not the other parts of the build that i dont agree with its the two points in air that give lightning rod. Look at any other post on the forums. Lightning rod is a pretty useless build, and unless your using d/d since it has alot more CC capabilities.

lighting rod is actually pretty useful in this build in particular not only because of the weakness but because it will actually hit from 1.5k-2.3k since your going to crit and you always crit hard its a nice little poke. that aside you can double hit them by hitting static field then using your push to knock them into the shield for two zaps at once doubling the weakness duration. Its not a core mechanic of this build but its a nice method to keep the pressure up.

My ele survives pretty well but then again with all the tags I get sigil of restoration goes off like a broken alarm clock. Not exactly the toon i play in 5 man teams but when im running with 10+ yah absolute area denial. And Retaliate isnt as common as it should be, i should probably look into making a guard/warrior build that can abuse that.

Retaliation is actually more common than you think, especially since every other person in wvw is a guardian your going to be dealing with it quite often. So having some form of burst healing like evasive arcana, or ether renewal would be better. The reason why people mostly use the signet on d/d or s/d is because theyre always casting spells, whilst on staff you have charge times, and long cool downs causing it to be not as effective than the other weapon sets.

More common than you think… more common than you think…. you realize i play 20 hours of WvW a week minimum right? I know EXACTLY how common it is, and its really not that big of a problem. That said most of my healing comes from sigil of restoration, no really tag everything get healed every single time anyone dies. plus if your using heal sigil never leave an attunement without blowing all your CD on it. free heals and some quick damage from fire to lighting and some free heals and cc when you switch from lighting to water. Honestly if your Ele is relying on its toughness vitality or active heal to survive your not aggressive enough.

Yes it is more common, based on the fact i had given you previously. The signet is not viable for staff, and CC on a staff….really? What CC do you get from fire?

Kills from siege should count. Strategically placed siege is supposed to be important. A team under the effect of out numbered should be awarded bonus point for kills tho and siege kills should be reduced from say 5 points to 3. In addition is must be any kill not stomps only. in addition the points for holding capture points should be doubled to accommodate the the fact that in this state 3 kills would be the same as holding a tower for 15 minutes.

I second this. I feel like I lose a lot of players when as a commander I come back to defend a tower or even the keep. If you are defend your garri against a 100 man attack for 3 hours you should get rewarded as a hero not soar fingers and exhaustion.

Wow 100 men attacking for 3 hours.. That’s a lot of heavy loot bags right there from all those kills.

Not really dont get me wrong you get a bunch but most of them are trash anyway. But since they are constantly retreating and blasting waterfields you dont get very many actual kills. I dont know if you have ever participated in a fight like this but its a lot of siege and counter siege to prevent them from getting gates/walls down. They paint the walls we paint the ground anyone who goes down gets rezzed.

It is very squishy so I dont recommend it in gold tier server matchups. Also i dont suggest it for new WvW ele since your positioning wont be good enough to get in range for the attacks while still being safe. But it does melt thru entire zergs if your team has a decent front line.

You might want to build in soldiers gear (or invaders if your cheap) then decide do you want to be the psychopathic D/D ele that picks a couple of people in small groups and ruins their day while being relatively tanky. Or do you want to be the staff ele that pushes 50 people off a tower with a single meteor storm?

The nice thing about ele is you will always see the effect on the battlefield you have. People will die and it will because of you. If you choose staff once they run away you wont be able to catch them and you wont have the option to run away yourself. If you choose dagger you can chase them or run away yourself but you wont deal such overwhelming large radius damage to force them to run away like you would with a staff.

Now between staff and daggers you need to pick your gear a D/D zerker/assassin is the highest damage possible in the game buuut your gunna die if you run that so dont. D/D runs with atleast power/precision/toughness if your really really good at it. Most run power/toughness/vitality. Staff You Need power and precision. you want either to pick your third stat as either ferocity vitality or toughness. I myself run Assassins to get 100% crit rate with fury and 233% crit damage before buffs but if your not good at positioning your almost as ready to die as a d/d running zerker.

TLDR build tanky to start with pick which weapon you like most then if you choose staff slide into your offensive gear slowly.

I think it would be nice in addition warning signals would be nice as an upgrade option. for example if a group of 5+ enemies is spotted at all you immediately get a flame lit above the tower this should be visible anywhere on the map or at the very least visible on the actual map. And I really do like the siege master upgrade idea and golem parking. This would make towers more strategic and less of a PPT tool

Out of all of this all I care about is Yes please Yes make it happen but dear god outnumbered buff better make you taking the risk of going out worth it because if you get the same amount of points for killing 20 of the 70 enemies your facing as they get for killing your 20 man squad there is an issue there

Im throwing my voice in on Devonas Rest. Crazy good havok squads during all times of day and face flattening zergs in TS. They dont always win because their late night coverage is lacking but out of all my prior server it was the most fun hands down.

it doesnt have to be actually like that but the concept of an elite that makes use of your ability to control all 4 elements is something that should have been a staple in the ele kitten nal from the beginning and lets be honest the glyph is worthless in almost every scenario

I also agree lighting rod is very important especially in such a crit heavy build it will also provide a nice source of bonus damage to play with. In addition why waste your grand master fire trait on anything other than free might? it would even allow you to drop sigil of battle for sigil of restoration so all your tags are free heals. Also arcane brilliance is apparently not acting as the blast it should so until further notice use the glyph or signit. These things and a few other minor details aside you have the general idea and you seem to have the experience but you lack optimization your too build around being able to use the same gear and specific traits/utilities for all scenarios. Also your advice about glyph of storms while valid is not always the best the lighting storm will actually deal more damage and it provides a quick way to get a whole group of enemies up to 25 stacks of vulnerability especially if you drop it inside a static field to lock them into additional hits.

But you already know all those skills and what they are used for but how do those make THIS build any better than any other build? well for one all those CC actually deal damage thats nice you know best to kick em while they are down. your tagging everything so your sigil of restoration is ticking like a runners pedometer. your running 100% crit rate with 233% critical damage additional 6% on targets under half health when they get under 33% they are taking a total of 26% bonus damage from you from all attacks. now between the 25% stacks of vunerability you usually rack up on their frontlines between your glyph of lighting storm and your allies assistance we are talking a pretty nasty beat down. meteors will crit over and over for 6k glyph of storms crits at about 1.1k per 36 impacts ice bow will crit for about 3k per impact and then if you happen to be char charzooka 5 will also be pretty evil (i dont play char so i dont know for sure how much it will hit for) Now ask yourself how many nubs can you kill from behind the gate? if you can get on the wall without being burned immediately how hard can you push them away from your tower? How much would it suck to take 2.3k damage every time an enemy Ele was to CC you? because that is what your enemies have to deal with now.

Alright this build is focused to deal heavy long range aoe damage. The first thing I want to say is Ele elites suck so pick race elite Humans Avatar of Melandru or Charzooka are great choices.

You will notice the signit heal, the glyph heal works just as well if you tweak traits. Please I beg of you to spam glyph of storms and do it in any attunement other than fire preferably in all possible circumstances in lighting. Ice bow is fairly straight forward you summon it during the might stack so someone else picks up the second one then you open by using it to drop every skill it has on the enemy before you drop it like its hot … hot ice .. ok moving on. Then you have arcane shield little extra ferocity with it thanks to a trait plus the auto crit it deals when it gets its 3 blocks can and will save your sorry pathetic life, easy 3k to any unfortunate player within 360m of you.
Now weapon skills
Fire: Use every single skill end of story if meteor shower is off CD and it stays that way for over 3 seconds your doing it wrong. flame burst extra might quick minor damage that doesnt really matter but its practically instant. burning retreat? longest fire field in the whole game also extra might and gtfo skill whats not to love. lava font with the addition to extra aoe radius its kinda big and kinda painful great for demolishing enemy siege use it before you start your meteor shower then again after meteor shower since its insanely low CW will be over again.

Water: 5 3 4 2 aaaand switch nah jk but in the heat of battle yah actually just hit keys in that order for some extra heals and chaos for the enemy. even if they dont actually hurt the red circles scare enemies plus if it crits while you have 233% crit damage ice spike kinda does hurt a little. plus frozen ground who doesnt love chill on the enemy makes them sitting ducks. the other two are heals dont gotta explain that. but one notable thing is the 1 skill water blast you can sit 1200 from the gate and auto attack the gate with that to defend the players huddling around the gate allllll day with zero healing gear or traits, not required but just saiyan what else are you doing while the rams bash and your allies die?
Lighting: you use it for windorne speed between fights? well i use it for weakness baby thats right check the trait tree static field will now sap them for a tasty chunk of damage when you consider the fact you are at 100% crit rate after fury with 233% critical damage we are talking halving their damage while zapping them. and gust knock a couple into the static shield for double zaps and double the weakness duration, no ICD FTW then windobrorne speed because who knows an ally might be crippled chilled or immobilized might help them out right? plus swiftness while your kiting for your life always helps. lighting surge……… eeeeeeeh no 1.5s cast time? maybe if it was a 360m aoe skill but no just no aint nobody got time for dat. auto attack? eh if you feel like tagging lords room.
Earth: the most underused and worthless of all trees in the standard build this one included. that said it has its uses and i use it atleast once per fight if nothing else free fury whats not to love about free fury? auto attack?eeeer vs a lord fine i guess? vs a moving target in a chaotic battlefield? would be awesome if it actually hitsomething since it inflicts weakness but no pass. eruption bleed blast damage but out 1.25 cast eh cast it anyway some extra might/heal in the right field and you get to force your enemies to waste a condi cleanse. magnetic aura now thats what im talking about baby instant cast 5 seconds of rangers biting your sweet sweet kitten . unsteady ground because this is my bridge and who said you could get in that tower? not to mention stop following me already. then there is shockwave because yes your mine now deal with it infact so are those other couple of nubs that were following in your footsteps.

A better solution might be to take inactive accounts and remove them from servers and when they log in again they get the option to pick a new server and they get a gold bonus for picking a lower population server

with the exception of our late night coverage its amazing. Our commanders are the best in our tier. Our TS is very friendly and you can hop into any guilds channel without angering people. Our WvW focus is amazing. Honestly I say do it your gonna love it

normally servers dont mind at the very least an uplevel is a supply mule. however if your an uplevel with no siege traits taking control of the ram on a d/d ele your server aint gonna like you

This is WvW TEAM gameplay no intention of roaming. and its long bow shortbow with +300 range LB and piercing on all arrow attacks. Its there for maximum suppression style dps. It is a playstyle that punishes anyone who attempts to advance on your team with consistent and aggressive aoe damage.

i’m gonna have to break this down

better access to stability? mist form, armor of earth x2, earth attunement switch if traited, arcane shield + tornado are pretty much the most useful stability utilities in the game. the only profession that comes with more stabi is the warrior.

guard has more than anything other than warrior and traited for 2s of stability when parties demand zerker cute.

i really really don’t understand this sentence. it makes absolutely no sense. but let’s investigate:
guardian:
skills
Shelter 1 1/4 sec
“Stand Your Ground!” 5 sec
renewed focus 2 sec
traits:
indomitable courage 3s
total: 11 1/4 sec. whoop dee kittening doo…

i will not take hallowed ground into consideration, since you said it’s for running purposes only

warrior:
balanced stance 8sec
dolyak signet 8sec
and more if you count rampage and some traits, but that alone makes for 16 secs of stability.

arcane shield is a block not a stability kittens in 0.1 seconds is enough to get you knocked down in pve thats a thing and it happens.

arcane shield is also a stunbreaker and it eats 3 hits, what else do you want? you don’t even get infight if hit.

tornado would be nice except right stability is wanted for running portions and you dont want to actually hit enemies because it slows you down can you NOT hit enemies with tornado?

if enemies hit you, you will slow down, no matter if you have stability or not. if you want to run at ooc (130%) speed, don’t get hit.

armor or earth alright ill give you that but x2? think again gaining stability doesnt stand you back up if your already down so even if you took that trait which again zerker zerker zerker if your under half health your gonna be dead before the knockdown is over.

armor of earth is a stunbreaker. earths embrace (earth III) grants armor of earth, ergo stunbreaker. get your facts straight.

so really yah mistform and one armor of earth if you give up not one but two of your utility for it. your parties must love you so much

my party actually loves me for being able to stay infight for a very very very very very long time due to blink, long range and high mobility in general. and they love me even more if they miscalculate and i can still get out of a §$%$%/&%/ HAMMER STUNS charge or can hold my ground against decap engis and freaking hambows.

by now, i’m guessing you never ever played ele or necro to more than level 30.

this is not supposed to be for pvp take the OP into consideration keep your pvp fetish out of his thread and i have both classes at 80 and use them both for PVE switching between the two depending on class composition. and honestly MUCH much easier on Necro and I can carry parties that mess up with more reliability on necro

ok the obvious survivability aside for WvW anyone see any major problems/necessary adjustments for this build?

also would it be worth throwing conditions out the door (while keeping rune of trapper for stealth) and picking up zerker/assassin gear for ferocity?

Which class is more fun?

  • Ele is easy to learn hard to master. And the skill ceiling that you attain is not as rewarding as say a guardian in WvW. Cant comment on PvE skill ceilings.

while i dont agree guardian has a high skill ceiling (tho a rewarding one to reach none the less) PVE skill ceiling on ele is amazing they can carry a whole party thru Arah if they feel like it

lesser lighting has a pseudo stunbreak it releases immoblize chill and cripple i think dazes and knockdowns still arent effected

and the elite lighting has a 1 second stun both the lesser and elite skill have only a 15 second CD for the “movement release break” and the stun

You forgot to mention that the elemental’s command attacks are activated the next time the elemental performs an attack—which means if the elemental is killed during that time period of no actions, then you get nothing.

this is true but even in WvW i tend to find they dont die nearly as easily as they should

DR has some amazing commanders particularity in borderlands but due to the nature of the game and the potential motives of the OP ill keep names to myself. Just remember if you ever run into a 15 man DR team with less than 40 people you should stay away they usually dont chase if they have an objective they want.

they are exotics that you can pick the stats on similar to legendaries except once you pick the stats its locked into those stats.

simple solution would be for the primary target to be repicked at every tick and then a second enemy within 600 would hit if one was to exist. this would extend the damage to two targets and effective maximum range by an additional 600. makes the skill much more dynamic without being too useful.

yah if i didnt abuse the glyph traits to make the glyph provide me with perma swiftness out of battle and perma might in battle i would use signet for my WvW build its far too viable especially on a DD ele that drops a thousand attacks a minute.

honestly even without blasting them waterfields heal a lot more than they should for WvW even in large scale battles. sigil of water is also effective for that and sylvari healing seed is the beast of healing keeps them heavies up for days. but more important than healing in this game is SUPPRESSION. Stun enemies put flashy abilities like lighting storm ice storm and firestorm down put up that static field put up that earth wall drop the immobilize and bleed from the earth set put swiftness on allies from lighitng, put a blind on a random mofo while your at it too. always drop all your CD before switching attunement or putting away an ele weapon. make enemies afraid to advance or unable to do so and you will do a lot more for saving your allies than heals ever could. and while your healing them anyway drop an ice bomb drop that sexy chill field and pop a glyph to grant yourself regen (with trait) because a dead ele saves nobody.
