What is it that the ranger community want from the devs to make ranger viable, exactly?
Ah my bad. I automatically assume burst when someone mentions s/d. Haven’t tried celestial s/d, but it sounds interesting. Will try it out soon.
Edit: urgh, earthquake. No wonder. Does anyone even use that in rotations nowadays? :/
(edited by ReaperJr.5967)
Please nerf sustain and not the damage. In fact, a buff to damage might be warranted to compensate for nerf in sustain.
S/D is as just about as good (maybe better, can’t tell yet) brawler as d/d ele. It has a lot of benefits, mostly centered on very high might stacking, as well as sharing lots of fury. Dragon’s tooth change helps, and the buff to sigil of air makes it worth considering over sigil of battle (you sometimes hit 25 might without battle, but it helps when under heavy pressure so you don’t need to prioritize blasting firefields as much).
It plays a little different to d/d, but the burst is enjoyable. The survivability is just about as good as d/d ele (a little better in 1v1’s due to blinds, a little worse in teamfights due to no shocking aura), and you have a little more group support via more healing (water trident heals + an extra cleanse) and might stacking/fury sharing.
I tried the new scepter yesterday, and I think the new dragon tooth makes us more viable against melee targets, it makes them want to dodge out of the AoE ring lest it hits them.
Healing seems to be better though, water #3 heals decently. And Signet of Restoration procs more because you tend to really spam skills on scepter, especially Air 1,2 and 3.
Autoattack is pathetic though..
I don’t know how you manage to maintain 25 stack of might though. Maybe with the pre post cleansing fire, but I don’t know how to do it now.
Don’t worry, it’s not you. Even d/d eles cannot maintain 25 might post nerf.

I’m sorry but.. Are you serious? We talking about the same s/d here? S/d is a gimmicky high burst build that’s one of the glassiest in game. It is nowhere near the level of d/d cele ele, 1v1 or teamfight wise. Try using it in high mmr ranked matches and watch yourself get destroyed.
S/f though, is different.
Axe shield has always been viable. No idea what op is talking about. Think he doesn’t play warrior Lmao.
I called it. I did. People will still qq about d/d eles after the ‘nerf’. They truly done kittened up this time. D/d is still as broken as before and s/x is still trash tier.
Even a power engi running rifle hgh spec won’t lose against a warrior unless it’s on point. Engineers can kite them so easily they can close both eyes and win.
Not anymore, people. With the introduction of the new and improved earth eles, you can no longer burst them down! 100% uptime of 40% damage reduction in melee range! 100% immunity to critical hits in earth attunement! Behold the new meta!
100% immunity to critical hits in earth attunement
Time to adapt. This totally invalidates precision and ferocity so long as they’re in Earth. Earth also gives nasty bleeds and has a projectile reflect at least for staff eles so soldier’s would be optimal against them. However, a good ele won’t stay in Earth forever (if they do something’s broken somewhere) so some of the precision and ferocity would become useful again eventually. Fighting elementalists is an uphill battle, though in MMO rock paper scissors light armor classes traditionally hard counter heavy armored while mediums take out light and heavy being good against medium. It’s why warlocks drop like rocks to rogues while paladins and death knights are an uphill battle (in Cataclysm, haven’t played WoW since then) but still possible to beat. On a frost mage the same issue, although I did run into a warrior that gave me a very hard time in a battleground.
Still, this is Guild Wars 2 not WoW but the rock papper scissors scheme is typically consistent.
I main ele. And i play a hell lot of warrior too. I can safely say if an ele switches to earth traits instead of fire, you will have 0% chance of winning against an ele.
A good ele won’t stay in earth forever. Yes. But he will switch to earth when he is cc-ed without a stun break, which is also when you’re landing your burst as a warrior, ‘coincidentally’. He also passively gains this critical immunity periodically just by rotating blindly. So basically you can’t land a proper 100b, nor can you outburst his sustain with his 40% damage reduction (perma protection and additional 10% in melee range).
TLDR; You’re kittened as a warrior against an ele. You can never win, only draw with shoutbow.
^LOL ‘50% damage increase’ kappa
Should be visible at the end of matches and lobby.
I don’t think that’s how mmr works. Mmr isn’t awarded according to how many points you get during match. Your gain or loss is predetermined at the start of a match according to your matchups.
Just like how your kdr doesn’t affect your mmr gain/loss per match in mobas.
Display mmr only after a certain rank? Or even implement calibration matches? That’s the solution imposed in other games.
Yeah but those are usually outliers. Regardless of how bad your luck is, if you play enough, your mmr will be an accurate measure of your skills.
Not trying to argue here, just stating the facts. This argument has been made many times across all games with mmr. In the end, if you end up with many games where ‘your teammates are bad’, you’re usually the problem, not your team.
For instance, there was this bunker guard the other time I was matched with who insisted on contesting mid regardless of whether we (my teammates and I) were there and when he died he kept flaming us and calling us noobs and that we should follow him since he can support us.
TL;DR: Mmr is an accurate indicator of your skills if you play enough. This is the general consensus after much debate across all games with mmr.
Ehhh, not really. Mmr is a good indicator of how proficient you are at PVP. Especially since it takes into account winrate and matchups.
Just like in other games like dota or lol, the ‘mmr doesn’t mean anything’ argument is usually used by bad players who have low mmr.
It would be really useful to tell apart the people who know their stuff and the people who pretend to, though.
Not anymore, people. With the introduction of the new and improved earth eles, you can no longer burst them down! 100% uptime of 40% damage reduction in melee range! 100% immunity to critical hits in earth attunement! Behold the new meta!
It could always be toggled. I just want to know my own MMR generally.
Agree with op. I’ve resorted to hotjoins and unranked queue to test new characters, completely disregarding unranked mmr.
Guess you just gotta deal with it by making ranked queue your mode for ‘serious play’.
I’d like the option but you need to realize this:
Divisions won’t reflect player skill.
In the same way we had in the last season the entire top100 of engi turrets who played 40-50 games/daily
Legendary division will be only for two category of people:
- players who play 40-50 games daily
- players who play less games (but always 10+) daily but they go in premades 3+That’s all
Not necessarily. At higher ranked leagues you will meet other premades even if you’re a premade yourself. You will also need a positive winrate. Therefore if you get into legendary division, it’s very likely that you’re a decent player.
Will this feature ever be implemented? Or rather, is it even being considered?
It’s just burns in general that is op atm, not really burn guards per se. They’re actually quite easy to play against.
Warrior skills are so telegraphed and predictable that if you actually lose to them as an engineer, it’s definitely a l2p issue.
Watch youtube videos. Profession guides. Learn what’s the meta. Duel. Duel more. Dueling is the shortest route to being good mechanically. Rotations are merely a matter of analysis, so no matter how much you grind pvp you won’t be able to improve your rotations unless you analyse your matches.
Your post is full of errors mate. Don’t worry, I’ll help you out.
For those who enjoy their classes even when you could not 1v4 in SPvP…
For those who keep going despite the general hated for the class due to imbalancing issues and become nothing more then a balanced class with good damage
Rest is fairly accurate.
Ele hasn’t always been the meta. We have fallen in and out from one balance patch to another. There were periods where we were barely able to compete even as bunker builds.
These last few months after specialization change, the one Ar/Water/X cantrip build got out of hand, and that’s getting its deserved nerf. I agree that people who main this build is complaining too much, but at the same time, it’s not like ele as a whole has always been doing what you claim it does.
You’re wrong saying that people complain about the nerfs ( save ice bow nerf thread maybe), you can clearly see that are still people who want several more nerfs on ele, like they want ele to become a walking free loot bag
Aside from multiple ice bow nerf threads, I also see 3 threads on the front page complaining about nerfs on eles.
And as frustrating as the ele-haters might be, they were created because of an clearly imbalanced build. As an ele who chose not to play the Ar/Water cantrip build I also wished for nerfs to that particular build, and that’s from someone who understands its strengths and weaknesses, and still could beat them quite frequently.
Other people who’re not as familiar about the class would only see this unkillable ele who hits like a truck. Hardly a surprise they don’t look at things from our perspective and just wants things to be gutted.
You must not forget other professions power creep( including future elite spec) as right now any other build outside water/arc/cantrip stands zero chance against anything, no matter how much somebody comes here and say :“I can play ele without water/arcana/cantrip”.
I say:" prove it with a video, no words", at 100% I can jump on any other profession right now and 100 to 0 ANY ele who doesn’t play water/arcana/cantrip..like without that set up you have less than zero sustain lol.
Like try a fresh air ele( an example of ele with cantrips/sustain),….I can kill him with a rifle war almost or soldier amulet trap rangerYou must understand the perspective of those who wish to keep playing the profession in a competitive way.
A smart player that he’s frustrated with ele would suggest an alternative to the current design to the devs but…90% of forum wars asking for nerfs are just “players” whose asinine level of play is concealed while spouting vitriol and ignorance on the forum
I can play ele without arcane/water/cantrips. But it kittenING SUCKS. Lmfao.
Alright thank you!
I’ve heard if you use transmutation charges on beta characters, it won’t actually affect the number of charges in your account. Is that true?
Op sounds like he’s trolling. Either that, or he prefers the whole ‘stand still and cast spells till one of us is dead’ combat system in which case gw2 isn’t the game for you.
You would probably find Wow better suited for you. The combat system there is pretty brain dead.
Prepare Inc burn guard qq
Obviously a l2p issue. The only reason why I would run rampage instead of signet of rage is because of peak performance.
Just kite. /Thread
Thank goodness I am ditching this class for Revenant. Good bye suckers, enjoy Tempest. Muahahahhaha
22 stacks of might is still going to hurt quite a bit. I wouldn’t go as far as to say they deal no damage. Just less. Guess we’ll have to hope scepter buff makes it viable.
No nerf to ele sustain? Bads are still going to get carried by blindly rotating attunements?
This is pretty sad. I was expecting something more substantial. So basically eles will now revert to using the earth traitline instead of fire, where they get protection and passive defense against crit, making them even tankier!
Only difference is that they won’t deal as much damage as d/d so I guess we can look forward to more bunker meta. The future for gw2 pvp sounds exciting.
Before anyone qqs about me not playing ele, I main it and I dare say nerfing the fire line is probably not going to fix the problem. Eles are still going to be unkillable, people will still call for nerfs. This is really disappointing, I would’ve thought they would make ele a more high risk high reward class.
Clarification: Professions have their own MMR tracked, but it is not currently used in matchmaking because players can switch professions after a match is made.
Hi Evan, thanks for the reply. May I ask if profession tracked mmr will ever be implemented? Perhaps disallow profession change after match start?
A proper channeling skill?
So that we can cancel it without weapon swapping..
That sounds good and all but doesn’t explain why alternate ruling changes which would definitely expedite the tourney were not even considered. (Etc banning inspiration and chaos from being used together on a mesmer, which would allow players to choose between playing their alt or playing a weaker build than they intended to. Instead, they were forced to change to alts no questions asked.)
This was considered and discussed in the map chat. It was deemed unfair to ban certain builds mid tournament by the admins. I tried to reach out to Kronos when he wanted to play mesmer vs my ranger and said that if he ran shatter (at least anything different so at least I had a chance) that I would personally allow it. He then switched back to ranger before that thought was explored any further.
If this had indeed happened, he wasn’t given the chance as the entire admin/mod team was threatening DQ unless he switched to his ranger, and fast.
And as for the ruling, that was exactly my point. They deemed it unfair to ban certain builds mid tournament but didn’t feel that it was unfair to force an alt switch into an unfavourable match up?

How was the tournament rigged?
The rude composure of some of the admins, I agree, was unprofessional and should be discussed internally among the the hosting organization.
Ruling changes were made favouring certain players more, basically.
Now my question is, why was the second scenario disallowed from happening? Why couldn’t Kronos play as Ranger against Eura’s Thief?
Edit: Post was directed to Demus, as for Eura, it doesn’t matter whether you heard Bear telling you to stall or whether you did. You stalled to exploit the rules.
Kronos should have been allowed to ranger v my thief, but as stated above. I would have swapped. So ruling will need to be implemented to deal with this. I stalled, yes. I just couldn’t figure out a good time to attack him. I wouldn’t necessarily consider my playstyle an exploit anymore than any other build.
Exactly.
Which is why rules need to be clearer. When can you swap? Which class has to play against which class? Must #1 play against #1? etc.
As for your claim, I’m pretty sure anyone who watched the vod could tell that you made absolutely no attempt to attack at all, even when he just stopped once he realised you were not intending to actually fight him thief vs mesmer. But that’s besides the point, the rulings, admins and mods were at fault here. Which is also why we are complaining.
Mother of God, I’m sorry but I really think you are the dense one here. Let me break it down into simpler terms for you.
1. Kronos wanted to play as ranger against Eura’s thief, but it wasn’t allowed.
2. They then forced him into playing as mesmer against Eura’s thief, which obviously led to a stalemate since Eura was intent on stalling (whole twitch chat could see him just perma stealthing and doing absolutely nothing else)
3. It would then result in a Ranger vs Ranger matchup, which is more favourable for Eura.
Now let’s take a look at it another way:
1. If Kronos was allowed to play as Ranger against Eura’s thief, the match might not have gone on forever (if Eura doesn’t insist on perma stealthing to stall)
2. If he perma stealthed to stall, then it would lead to a Ranger vs Mesmer matchup, which is fair to both players as both of them are playing the classes they ‘main’.
Now my question is, why was the second scenario disallowed from happening? Why couldn’t Kronos play as Ranger against Eura’s Thief?
Edit: Post was directed to Demus, as for Eura, it doesn’t matter whether you heard Bear telling you to stall or whether you didn’t. You stalled to exploit the rules.
(edited by ReaperJr.5967)
Okay Demus explain why Kronos was not allowed to play as ranger against Eura’s thief then. Explain that.
No, it isn’t a matter of what I want, it was that THIS ruling was imposed earlier on in the tourney when Kronos was forced to switch classes against Bear when Bear switched.
And if that wasn’t the case, why was he not allowed to play ranger against your thief when he explicitly asked to do so?
Edit: Vod is being downloaded, if you require any evidence to support our statements, we will provide them later.
I’m pointing out a technical ruling here. It should’ve been main vs main, and alt vs alt.
In this case, it should have been Thief vs Ranger, and Ranger vs Mesmer, not the other way around. I don’t think I’m the dense one, since Eura already admitted he is a ranger main.
I never said anyone owed me anything, my point was that although this was free, as you guys seem to think its all about the money, which it isn’t, it should have been FAIR (which it wasn’t since rules were changed and to biased ones at that).
Edit: Main being class #1, and alt being class #2.
(edited by ReaperJr.5967)
Here are the screenies. And as for your reply, you admit it then?
http://imgur.com/a/U5Mkz
Everyone has got 2 classes but one of them is a main and the other was an alt. You signed on as ranger as the main class so obviously you main ranger. Your signature implies the same. Yet you went as far as to lie about being a thief main to get a more favourable matchup, colluding with the admins and mods together on that.
So? What do you have to say?
Edit: Pink Power Ranger = Bear = One of the mods, just to prove a point
(edited by ReaperJr.5967)
You signed on as ranger main. Then claimed you were thief main to force a mesmer vs thief matchup which you could perma stealth to stall (which you did) to switch to a ranger vs ranger matchup, which you lost anyway.
Edit: what’s worse was that the admins and mods knew that and let you do it anyway. Dishonesty at its best, ladies and gentlemen.
Just because there’s no entry fee doesn’t mean you can’t expect a fair show. Rules WERE changed mid tourney (you must use an alt if your opponent uses an alt, what? This was suddenly imposed earlier on but then not followed during the LB finals?)
Moreover it was held in the name of a entity supposed to represent gw2 esports? Maybe you should learn not to use derogatory terms in a civilised discussion to actually make people take you seriously.
The thing was that this could have easily been prevented by banning certain traitlines from being used together (like how ranger can not use both WS and NM). Similarly, it could be implemented that mesmer can not use chaos and inspiration together. However, this suggestion was voided on the basis that the admin could not change rules mid tourney, yet he did so for other situations? Pretty one sided if you ask me.
Also, Bear was a participant AND a mod? That raised flags already. Then he went on to offer no respect to other players nor anything constructive to the tournament. He was basically flaming Kronos the entire time. ‘DQ him, let me sub in, let me 1v1 him again, 5 minutes only please, you’re a kittening kitten kronos, look at twitch chat they’re flaming kronos’ were some that I caught on stream. Pathetically hilarious, bringing a personal stigma to an organised competition. Highly unprofessional. Mods shouldn’t be chosen on the basis that the host are friends with them or what not, they should be chosen on their behaviour, ability to mod and commentate.
Edit: Poorly written and unclear rules, along with biased judgement and a very poor mod made the tourney less than desirable. Shoutout to Storm, hopes he does a better job next time.
(edited by ReaperJr.5967)
I think making it a leap finisher sounds good. After all, it’s already implemented (somewhat) in fgs.
^I forgot to mention that in Nike’s builds you either camp gs or use axe Mace and not lb. I was merely suggesting a rotation for lb if you really want to use it.
First off, you might want to look at DnT Nike’s pve warrior guide on Youtube. That would help a lot.
But basically what you do is you start off by using the heal that gives you max adrenaline. Then use f1 on gs to proc berserker’s power which gives you 20% extra damage. Use gs 2 and 3 and switch to lb (if you want), drop f1 and 3, then switch back.
