i use it for the stunbreak waaay better for outnumbered fights, youll be suprised how many mesmers waste it for the immob, oh you forgot to mention that its great for immobilising downed eles to stop them mist forming into towers (my favourite use) xD

True, there are times when I kick myself for wasting 2 or 3 cooldowns including MI to rez someone and they throw it back in your face by continuing to attack. :/

Although I’ve had a fair amount of success with players stopping their attack once stealthed so in general I still try to help.

Of course a lot easier if you can slap down a chaos storm, use chaos armour, and or diversion with IP.

i just had two questions regarding a utility and a trait im working with in my current build, its currently being build for group play in WvW, i couldnt find any specific information on these topics so i apologise if they are a bit too specific

1. the adept trait in the duelling line “retaliatory shield”, does anyone know if this procs from aegis activating and also does this have a cooldown on the trait? this would dramatically change whether i take it or not

2. the utility mimic, i wanted to know if it is possible to throw your “Mirror blade” with the GS then activate the channel for mimic and proc the blocks through your own mirror blade bounce atk off an enemy, ive used it before and found it really powerful with manipulation reduced however if you cant do this i think it would be unfair to sk my mesmers in the guild to take this due to the practice it takes to become decent with it.

I can’t tell you it exactly, as we’re not allowed to show raid builds (Guild privacy). But I have 2 roles. One is obvious, utilities (Portal, Veil an TW) and the second is boon-ripping. Stats in mesmer are totally personal and I have 2550 armor, 19,5k health, 2000 power, 32% crit chance and 50% crit damage. Only food included.

PD: Attack is not used in any calculation, is just there cause every primary stat has an own secondary one. It helps to have an idea of weapon damage comparison, but as every skill has a coefficient, its irrelevant.

i wouldnt say it was irrelevant but i see where your coming from considering the enemies armour comes into play, this part i understand but the part i dont is your stats, you have the same offensive stats but your armour is by far lower, its the same situation with me about privacy but just as a bit of advice, you should try using knights and cavaliers more rather than zerk, my base atk is standing around 2800 which yeah is bad but when i was getting my stats is took guardleech (100power) and bloodlust(250 power) into account considering ive always got them putting me up in attack greatly, this is what i was referring to with stacks, not might or allie buffs just my own

as for saying the armour value at 3.2k is a waste? i dont seem to see your view on that, currently we’re dealing with a warrior meta and toughness has become some what mandatory when fighting in WvW groups (not zergs) when the time comes for stacking for water fields i need to make sure that i take 0 damage, placing my armour up at 3.8k with the mantra, hallowed grounds keeps stability on us, with this tactic we can take numbers far greater than our own and its what gives me the enjoyment, why should how my zergling server friends here in fow determine how well we fight against enemy servers? just seems that you felt like trying to attack me for some reason

My stance is that it doesn’t matter what I like. They should introduce content for everyone. That means instanced content, pvp content, pve content, ect. I hate SAB with a passion, but plenty of people like it, so they should continue to develop and release it.

mimic is such an OP skill for the mesmer xD but very little people can use it effectivley, ive been using it for about 100hours now and i still find it a bit stressful sometimes, youve just got to get used to spotting prejectile classess in smaller fights to proc the blocks

while i agree that we dont do nowhere near the same aoe damage than other classes theres a good aoe burst you can do on a stacking guild/group, using focus and GS and zerk,, popping a warden in the middle then using your GS burst with shatter. i cant say how many times ive downed 4-5 people in the group, popping a mass invis or blink roll with distortion its easy to get a stomp off aswell :P maybe two if you get your second roll right and mass invis praying you dont get CC on the second stomp(more than likely you will though xD)

Thanks for the response, i agree with you at every turn, the build however isnt suited for what the OP really asked for. and id reccomend osicat that you try out a more structured 5man party, ive seen your videos, youre decent so i dont see no reason why you cant pull it off, the mesmer brings powerful heals to the table while being able to swap to those key utilities when needed, i dont zerg -_- like a certain someone said, i get my enjoyment and always have out of fighting and beating oponents when you are severely outnumbered as such in Fissure of Woe

My server doesnt make a difference to player skill, ive guested in other servers before, and i was referring to stacks from guards and bloodlust (nothing else) so dont over exaggerate, also i fight in a 5 man group not a zerg like you said, the healing i can put out in mantras with stability from hallowed ground is extremely powerful to the team and we do this while having a larger group blasting down on us,
my server tends to be a pve server however due to this the small groups that do play world vs world have been forced into having to party up and constantly fight larger numbers so i think that distinctly gives me a unique reason why my info is better than yours, someone from a server where the meta is to jump in the nearest zerg.

massinvis is pretty good in wvw, as it stealthes people that are being focused for example.
i use it to protect the casters

tw: massive cd for a short small frenzie. my guild leader likes to use it in wvw and it can be a little effective, but its not really something i would call an elite imo.

im not so sure youre correct with TW tbh, we have two mesmers in our regular group and the two time warps can make a huge difference if used right, but as for Mass Invis, im glad ive found someone who uses it to defend there teammates aswell instead of running, i thought i was the only one :P

i resorted to using moa against a troll thief who was yapping at out ankles in wvw but before that i hadnt used it in 5 months

Redcobra, I run 2550 armor in raids and I’m totally fine, so armor of Hidden Cat should be also finein terms of armor. 2600-2650 would be good numbers for general pug zerg.

But Hidden Cat has other 2 main problems in zergs (+20vs+20):
First is your role. Hidden Cat is a build meant to do a lot of pressure on a single target while having a lot of survivability, That’s why it excels on small scale fights. But in zergs, single target DPS has no impact and when you see the aoe DPS of eles or necros, you realize even iZerker has meh aoe damage.

Second is the low health pool. 16,8k base health is very low and with no Condition mitigate, you’re fresh meat for conditions. Around 20k and lemongrass is enough to make them not a thread.

yes but im not impressed with builds that are designed to play in groups that are either the same size or lower its possible to get better stats, and im pretty sure that that build wouldnt not survive in a 5v10, at that level ratio 1:2 stacking becomes mandotoy which isnt possible on his build, its not a bad build i was just stating the weak points,

currently i run a power PU mantra build with all stacks i have 3.2k armor (3.8k when channelling mantra) 23k HP 3.1k power 42% crit chance and 55% crit damage, it fills a healer roll when stacking with two mantras 4 condition removes every 10 secs and has blink and decoy. i dont understand how someone could lose so much stats

and i meant could work as in effectiveness, im not going to mention servers as ncsoft could always splurge out for better ones

Here’s a fun way to stop the melee trains in WvW…
implement ‘friendly fire.’

It is an evil proposal, but it would make the performance lag in WvW a lot worse as the server would have to process a lot more data.

Body-blocking like Warhammer had would help as well, but the server performance in WAR was atrocious as a result.

maybe it could work but i think there would be too many complainers if they were to implement it after release

Mass invis esp if you run a PU build of any kind. Stealth is by far the most op and broken skill in WvW there is no reason not to use and abuse it.

The PvP in this game is not a truly competitive scene. It never will be.

Play the game because you have fun, no other reason.

I play mesmer in PvP because it’s fun, and that’s all I need.

Indeed, although “fun” needs to be defined in some cases:

- If you define fun as winning, then re-roll to the current FOTM OP class and feel good about yourself believing you’re pro;
- If you define fun as playing a class you’ve fallen in love with at day one, then stick with it through ups and downs.

Alternatively, stick with Mesmer and win anyway, which seems to be the most fun combo. Unless you’re playing extremely high ranked in team queue, Mesmer is definitely viable.

even in high rank team queue they are viable, is siggest the GS/Staff Boonshatter, you play the anti guard/tank roll for clearing points as roaming, with portal you can be extremely useful to a team if played right, dont just dismiss then from tPvP

hmm personally i can get more dps out of the warden, excluding the reflect warden is great for aoe dps along with the GS the amount of times ive downed guilds through when they were stacking with this is hilarious xD and the reflect is extremely powerful when used against pug zergs as they are normally projectile heavy like rangers with pierce arrows, if you use feedback though make sure to use distortion as the retal that you take can be anywhere from 1000 damage to in very strange abnormal cases 15k damage xD which is tough to handle, as for stealth thieves, remeber that you #4 with focus cripples and is good for shutting down thieves

pistol is more single target but focus can be used for single target aswell:

Place down your temporal curtain on the floor then begin casting your iwarden then just as youre about to finish casting warden press 4 again to Pull your enemey causing the warden to get a good amount of hits as he spawns at the end location of casting not the start :P its great

i think i like the current dodge passive defence, maybe lower the warriors regen and then implement some sort of hold to block with the warriors adrenaline?

yeah i apologise quercus i came across a bit offensive, i dont take kindly to people talking badly about my GS, i ran it because kitten a mage with a GS, it was for style at first and ive been using it ever since, i must have made over 30 different build around the Greatsword, so when i here people say theyre not viable i know they just havnt bothered, if you fancy a build let me know and ill pull one out for you

@osicat have you considered the offhand sword with your build, even with loosing the prestige you keep high boons from stealth, but improve the dps by far, id recommend the offhand sword compared to the torch for fighting thieves as well, the counter is invaluable

personally for osicats build id say while its rather decent it doesnt offer enough tougness to be used for larger fights, and due to this you’ll find yourself being unable to stack with your teammates when fighting larger amounts of opponents say 5vs10 its only good when you are fighting an equal team or a team of lower numbers

yeah mesmers already bring a uniwue trait to tPvP, its boon stripping, a boonstrip shatter with null field can make short work of warriors and guardians, they anti-tank roamers thats what makes them useful and why helseth is allowed by his team to play it, not just his skill, instead of jumping on the warrior bandwaggon take a second to relook at the mesmer in tPvP

firstly moa is too long, its not useful to a group and is mainly a troll skill, no dignity in using it tbh, mass invis is pretty decent i like it, TW is only good in in groups,

as for mimic??? duuuuude its an amazing skill when used right, its part of my commander build, after being hit by a projectile the rest of the cast bar blocks ALL attacks, and traited for cool down you can use it every 16secs, its perfect for zerg mesmers especially if youre a melee mesmer :P

The DE nerf is not really a critical nerf to shatter specs, it just causes the players to use clones and dodges up more wisely. It’s not that hard to send 3 clones to shatter before dodging again since every shatter skill sends clones into seperate queues until it hits the target. But, it’s definately a critical nerf to clone-death builds.

I am still suprised how little people know about shatter after all this discussion going on on the board. As if it was about just getting out three illusions and blow them up and that’s it.

In the end, I think most people do not play shatter, because they have no clue about how it works, about positioning, about targeting, about spreading out clones, that you do not just shatter because it is off cooldown.

It is hard to blame some random Dev’s not knowing about the nuances of the mesmer gameplay, if even the mesmers themselves have no clue…

whats wrong with GS? ive ran it since the beggining of time and i dont see it as a nooby weapon, yeah it is if you stand at 1200 range on a tower but you could do that with any class i guess apart from the obvious ones, show me your vids where you fight enemies in wvw with the GS in outnumbered situations and win.

burst shatter was a sorry excuse for a build that didnt help in WvW one bit, no long mobility no health no condi removal no heals, just straight up trolling damage. PU has been around since the start, since the boon buff people have been taking it to combat what was once the zerk meta, i run PU, why wouldnt i? but to be honest there are plenty of build out there not just the 1200 range GS’rs, GS works better up close btw

show how well you use a GS tbh its better to use up close as a secondary wep, the might stacking with an extra bounce is OP

Looking at the build you posted, I think you should give MindCrush or Chillruption some more time. Those playstyles are very different from the build you posted.

Chillruption is a very technical build, and the chills aren’t supposed to just be mindlessly spammed. Chill makes all skills take longer to cooldown, which means that any interrupts he nails on a chilled opponent will take longer than 5 seconds to recharge; especially dangerous for heals. If you play it with the mindset that “this is just a phantasm build with chill” then you’re going to be missing out on the beauty of the build. It heavily rewards/punishes interrupts and as a result you have to really be used to all the mechanics of the build and that won’t come within a week of trying it out.

Mind Crush isn’t as interrupt-heavy but rather focuses more on chain-dazing opponents. You’re right that the damage is slightly below-average but the lower damage is because of it’s survivability (or rather the investment into the Chaos line, picking up Debilitating and Bountiful). Mind Crush uses interrupts to grow more powerful and to make up for the loss of damage, but also has to dance a fine line between shattering and maintaining Phantasms. It makes use of almost everything a Mesmer can do, and so you have to choose whether you’ll reap more benefits from letting your clones get killed (AoE conditions & Phantasm damage) or actively shattering them. If you use the same gear you’re using in your current build, Mind Crush should actually be more durable than the build you’re running when played properly. Your comment “Wont win against decent 1v1s” leads me to believe that you’re not used to the build yet, as it’s actually very strong vs most 1v1s, but what you described is very common for people first picking up the build, myself included when I originally tested it. It has it’s own rules and own playstyle that’s unlike most other builds out there, which means old habits you have from other builds could potentially be screwing with your learning this build. 2v1s and outnumbered fights are a bit harder to explain, especially since I’ve been running Shatterlock recently rather than Mind Crush, but I’ll check if Helseth has any videos demonstrating his 30/20/0/0/20 build in outnumbered fights.

The build you posted is interesting. Why the scepter? How do you handle condition damage from classes like Necros/Engineers? And with no way to rip boons how do you handle Warriors/Guardians? And I’m not so sure if Sigil of Paralyzation is the best bet for Staff; it’d only benefit Chaos Storm – sometimes – every 35 secs.

id really appreciate the videos tbh you may be right, alot of mesmer builds come down to L2P and can be hard to grasp at first use, especially interupt builds, as for mine, the sceptre is a mediocre clone producer without DE allowing an instant daze along with the offhand sword. im getting kicked out of the office now but ill write a bit up when i get home

but honestly, if you’re going to go perplexity i wouldn’t use the signet of ether, use ether feast also 5 into chaos somehow might be a good idea, the confusion is weak on this skill but i think you’ll find people will desperately blow the Con removers to get rid of confusion allowing you to sceptre them with confusion once they have.

remove 5 out of chaos and 5 out of inspiration, change the master trait in inspiration to wardens feedback and get a focus instead of a pistol, then with those ten points chuck it into illusions for confusing cry, the extra retal could go a long way with the amout of toughness you have

there’s a GS Shatter build you could try, has an extremely high burst potential from 1200 range

tbh im not bothered about getting the gems back as long as its only on future releases from here on out

confounding suggestions is so delectably delicious with the staff its hilarious with the more Stuns and dazes and the chaotic interruption id say this is more of a brute lock down, if you were seriously going to consider using my build in a group roam then id definitely recommend replacing the sceptre with a main hand sword your going to need the trickery and evasion.

0 gems. By the time I hit 80 on any character, I’m invested in that character and everything to do with that character, specifically AS that character. Changing the race would change the character. I do my research before I make any new character, and make sure I get it right at character creation. If I feel I can’t take a character all the way to 80, I’ll know before I hit level 20, and then it’s no loss to me to delete and re-roll.

thats the opposite effect, i doubt youve played one of your characters more than i have, i just want to renew the character thats all, i wouldnt mind trying out the other races without having to start again

I probably haven’t. But I wasn’t criticising your opinion or your desire to roll a race change. I was just giving my opinion. I get too attached to my characters, so I wouldn’t want to change anything about them and would rather create and level a new one (no matter how boring and annoying levelling can be!). If ANet implemented a race change option, I personally, think it would be a shame as character creation is such a large part of GW2. However, I wouldn’t make a fuss and complain about it on the forums because it doesn’t need to affect me at all. If they do release something, then good for you (and them).

tbh i apologise for coming across as rude, i just feel that they dont implement this so you have to get explore again and your ascended all your soulbound gemstore items and everything else again if you want to change your main’s race, id only end up changing back to a human but at least i can play as an asuran for a while
