Well, they arent explaining how it works either, so they can be arbitrarily changing prices if they want/think it will sell more gold.

GW2 economy tries to mimic the RL economy so as the exchange rates for currencies are arbitrarily made by the state banks, so A-net may change the rates as they see fit.

Cursed Shore impossible to solo

The atmosphere is great It gives you the “fear” feeling and you are actually “scared” to adventure alone which is great as design BUT, letting the game solo able in that zone will be out of context: you go there in a war zone with all races gathered.
I think this is the time to “hire” some mercenaries.
Players who travel alone can hire up to 4 NPcs in the party. Mercenaries will have a timed spawn so if a player takes them in his party, other mercenaries will spawn in 10 min. If players will come in parties, they will will able to hire mercenaries up to the party max number.
This ca be a good opportunity for A-Net to reintroduce the Heroes from GW1 with a twist.

The player SHOULD BE the HERO

I am talking in here about the ending of the personal story. As the game is now, the personal story ends in Arah dungeon – a forced grouping of players which currently very few do it anymore.
I am not talking in here about making the dungeon solo-able for the story mode, but to change the game ending totally. The idea comes from the Lost Shores event. Here it is:

What if the final story mission will be like the killing of the Ancient Kraka?
The players enters an instanced zone where he/she is welcomed by an army of allies from all the races which are led by the 5 race heroes.
There will be like 150 NPCs of different professions: silvari, charrs, norns, humans, asurans going on attacking the great dragon. The NPCs will have enough AI to sustan the battle itself without the need of the player – they will die and will eb ressurected by others, they will shout, charge, buff. etc.
BUT, in the end of the battle, when the dragon will have 1 millimeter of its life bar, It will kill every one alive except the player.
A cutscene will start showing the devastation on the map and then continuing with a character monologue yelling to the dragon that he will kill him in the name of all those who suffered. etc.
Then the player will have to kill the dragon alone, resisting till the last breath.
Of course he might get killed a few times but there will be a checkpoint so he can do it. So the player will kill the dragon alone even if until then he was just a insignificant part of the battle.
After killing the dragon, a new cinematic will come, similar to the cinematic from the beginning of the game after the character creation.
In this cinematic, the 5 heroes of Tyria may or may not appear as the A-Net wants them alive or dead in the future stories.

I think this suggestion would make the player actually feel THE HERO in his personal story.

Consortium Chests and Style Store

These chests are a lottery thing and they appeal to the gambler type of players. Probably they saw the success they had with the chests for Halloween, so they decided it more worth for them this way then just put them in the store.
Personally, I would buy style things and minis, even weapon skins but I am not gambling. So they lost me for a buyer if they continue this.

Why does the personal story finish in Arah?

Every mission in the personal story is solo-able and people get used to this until they reach Arah.
Why did you you choose this idea of mandatory grouping for the last story mission?
Why do you force the players group up for their last story mission when you haven’t done this with all other missions?
Why didn’t you make the story mode of that dungeon solo-able so every player can finish his story on his own?
Why should the personal story finish inside a dungeon, after all?

Many people talk in the forum about bestiary, wardrobe, armory etc that I came up with this suggestion to incorporate all these and more to only ONE window: Encyclopedia

The UI window will be account based and have more tabs:

1) Armors

To unlock a armor skin in here, the player needs to equip that armor piece first. After that the skin is unlocked and it can be re-purchased as many times he wants in the same manner as the guild armor skins are purchased. The armor skin will auto include a transmutation stone. Prices can vary depending on the rarity of the armor skin.
Price: 10 silver / piece minimum

(This armor tab will include the gem store armor skins too only that the price for re-purchase them will be similar to the Costumes -see below)

2) Weapons

To unlock a weapon skin in here , the player needs to equip that weapon first. After that the skin is unlocked and it can be re-purchased as many times he wants in the same manner as the guild weapon skins are purchased. The weapon skin will auto include a transmutation stone. Prices can vary depending on the rarity of the armor skin.
Price: 35 Silver / weapon minimum

3) Costumes

To unlock a costume skin in here , the player needs to buy that costume first. After the skin is unlocked, it can be re-purchased as many times he wants with the in-game money in the same manner as the guild armor skins are purchased for any character.
Price: 20 silver / piece

4) Bestiary

To unlock a beast in here the player needs to kill one time that beast. It will be an extension of the Slayer achievement, only that in here, there will be an information page about the best: name, class, locations to be found in, abilities and attacks.

My point is, I am foreseeing that as soon as I finish my story and clear the whole map, I won’t have any motivation to continue playing. Because I won’t get any benefit of spending hours doing any of the previous task other than visual.

So, your end game stops at lvl 80 and finishing the story. Well, GW1 is on for 7 years with a max lvl 20 and a max armor in about 10h from when you start a character. I guess there are people like you but they are only in the forums, the rest are just playing the game. Sorry man, but for a 60$ game, i think you have enough content as it is now and they will add more things in the future for sure. The game is not dieing, on contrary its growing up, but people need a bit of patience.
Noob players quit GW1 even before getting lvl 20 because they didn’t have patience enough to leave the desolated Ascalon zone- they got bored in there – but that didn’t kill the game.
If you play a game just to be rewarded, then any game isn’t for you. Games are supposed to be fun activity to relax after the school or work, not a home job which needs a payment

Housing?

Housing should be account based and persistent. They can make a new zone, which they will expand more as more players are coming in. The land should be unlocked to the account but not signed until the players will unlock the possibility to create a house.

Players will have to choose one of the 5 races type designs and these will be available one one per account.

Unlocking a house should be a process not a simple quest. For example, the materials needed for the house should be bought with karma. As the game it is now, karma can be used for more things so this will divide players into those interested in their houses and other interested in other things.

Players’ houses should be different in sizes accordingly to the number of achievements
so if a player will just farm karma in Orr and only kill Risen, than he will not have too many achievements as those doing the jumping puzzles, exploration, map completion, etc. so their house will just be a mall cottage not a castle. More achievements = more house designs unlocked to purchase

Changing the race type design will imply that the old house will be demolished. The furniture will be transmuted in the new design and moved to the new house.

The housing zone will a futuristic round town with sectors coming from a center. The town will be able to expand away from the center.

hmm, a good suggestion. But i guess they have just a base head model as the ears are customizable and they have made head gear compared to that. But yes, this will bring a but more of the Asura feel to the race. As they look without the ears, they feel little dwarfs

Waiting for other players to group up is a waste of time. Fighting foes with a huge agro and crazy fast re-spawn rates as a solo player due to the circumstances becomes really frustrating.
So in the end is a choice of running around or getting armor broken and a lot of teleportation until you are a useless character: no gold. no armor no groups.

Character Select improvements

My idea for this:

1) put character slots in a vertical matrix to the left of the screen: 3 characters per row as default with options to put them as 1, 2, 3, 4 per row because of different monitor sizes. Basically it will look like the choices screen for selecting a face/hair, etc in character creation.
This matrix will fill up the left size of the screen from top to bottom having the small GW2 style blur expanded only to cover the amount of characters

2) make the background of the character selection race specific adding a “live” environment from their race city
By “live” I mean, rotating the character around its middle vertical axis will rotate the background image too creating a 360* image.
This can be improved with a +/- 45* vertical image rotation for seeing the sky and the ground.

3) the information about the selected character will appear under the character, where the character slots are now, also in a specific GW2 style blur similar to the water surface swimming skill bar, without the health orb and skills of course

4) there should be the option to zoom in /out for the character in the selection screen so all the characters can be viewed properly from “head to toes” plus adding the toggle armor, costume and light options like in character creation screens would be nice.

Its not fun for you guys, because you run them so many times. Everything you do it repeatedly like a daily work becomes boring and frustrating. Take some break, do other things, and than come back to dungeons. Do one dungeon in 2-3 days or even more and then you will find it different because your brain started to get used to the other things you do.

I agree thet bosses should be more dynamic and their “toughness” shouldn’t come just from HP amount, but more from the fight mechanic.

GW2 one time events are not like New Year events on the globe: you start with it in Australia and then each hour in different countries so you are able to spend 24 h seeing New Year festivities from all over the world on TV

Most surely they call it “one time event” because they can’t open the new zones more times it will not fit in the general feel to be able to experiment the event multiple times.
If they put it on different hours in the EU and US servers than people will transfer to catch both of them, but once they have unlocked the new zone, its inappropriate to have the unlocking event again.

How about A-Net puts these one time events in the game and never announce about it. That would feel much better isn’t it?

Now, when they give you time to reschedule other obligations if you want to make it to the game events, people only complain.

I wonder how would you feel if you found out there was an event a few hours ago and you didn’t know about?

The one time event for introducing new content to the game is the most innovative way of doing it then just adding a patch to the game client.

Anything that encourages soloing should not be implemented. It ruins the community, and MMOs only survive with a rich community.

If you read the OP, can you tell me how will heroes ruin the community, because in the over populated Orr, there won’t be even a slight chance to see heroes around? as the same thing will be in all starter lvl 15 zones.

In the rest of the zones, the heroes will be with you only if there are no players around. The moment players come, the heroes won’t be usable.

The community in GW2 is made only of single players grouped together by the events. Only guilds can say they have a community within, others just happen to be there.

Yes, the content in GW1 was designed with a group in mind, while GW2 is designed as a solo-able. They have to tweak the difficulty in the zones over lvl 20 with a 2,3,4,5 character team respectively in mind accordingly to the zone level requirements.

Basically the idea is: when you are solo in some places and there are no players around, you could have a customizable hero team with you until you meet other players. It will still be an option because you need to summon them manually: they will not re spawn after the players have left your surrounding zone. Besides, the F5-F8 keys will be locked while players are around.

I haven’t done dungeons before and I might not do them until they bring back the heroes, but I agree with your post. The bosses in the game: veterans, champions and dragons are different from the regular foes only by the HP and hit power.

High HP makes them boring to fight solo or in small groups, hit power makes people avoid them in PvE while alone or small groups.

I would add more dynamic to the fights and less HP for the bosses. They need to move, jump fly, grab, throw, rush, etc.
I will keep the hit power tho because encourages dodging

I have a lvl 80 char but i am not spending my game time in Orr. I really don’t enjoy seeing all the zombies around. Too much gore. So i am just doing dailies in other zones, especially starter zone. They are fun enough. I haven’t been in Orr for week or so and really, don’t miss it.

How to bring back the heroes into GW2 without ruining the current game mechanics?

1. Heroes are unlocked by the character level , one hero slot at each 20 levels. This means at lvl 20 you can unlock your first hero slot, at lvl 40 your 2nd hero slot, lvl 60 – 3rd hero slot , lvl 80 – 4th hero slot

2) Heroes slots will be on your UI signed to F5, F6, F7, F8 keys to summon them.

3) Heroes + the player = 5 characters = max party size in the game – this will only happen in lvl 80 zones ( see further explanations)

4) Heroes are all lvl 80 but are downscaled as the character so they won’t be over powered

5) Number of heroes spawned will be limited to the downlevel : this means, if you are downscaled under lvl 20, you CANT summon any hero, if you are downscaled between 20-39 you can summon only 1 hero,, 40-59 you can summon 2 heros., 60-79 you can summon 3 heros, and only at lvl 80 you can summon 4 heroes.

6) Heroes will be summoned only if the numbers of players is (less) < 5 which means that in a lvl 20-40 zone, each player can summon 1 hero, but if there are 5 players around in the same local zone the heroes will vanish.
Another example: if a player has 1 hero and there comes 2 players, each with a hero, the hero of the last player entering the local zone will vanish letting room for only 5 characters: 3 players + 2 heroes.

The system of heroes:

1) The number of heroes spawned is limited by the downscaled level and also by the number of players around. (if There are 5 players around even in lvl 80 zone, no heroes will be spawned) So there wont be any change to the current system in big events in populated servers.

2) The hero will make high lvl dungeons available to a wider range of players but won’t disadvantage the ones who like to play with a group (Ascalon Catacombs will still need players because the downscale doesn’t let players have heroes in that zone)

3) It will bring back the hero system from GW1 with a twist which some of the players enjoyed and bring a new type of goal for players to unlock the their heroes.

4) it will give new gold sinks because heroes will need armors, runes, weapons

What type of heroes there are and when do they unlock?

As mentioned above, at each 20 levels the character unlocks a hero slot but NOT the hero. The actual heroes are a new idea

1) Heroes can be unlocked in Personal story or in Explorable. The obvious answer is to have as heroes some of the characters you meet during the storyline. Well, yes, but this will be a little non-innovative idea. Besides, people don’t enjoy playing the storyline on multiple characters of the same profession.

I will vote for an explorable part in unlocking a hero

There are various mechanic for this.

1) Unlock a certain hero in some skill challenges both 1vs1 (instanced) or multiple vs 1 (explorable)

2) Unlock a “zone specific hero” when reaching the certain level: this means that if you hit lvl 20 in Human zones you will unlock a Human hero, if you hit lvl 20 in the Charr lands you will unlock a Charr hero. etc.
Also, hitting lvl 80 in human zones will unlock a human hero, while hitting lvl 80 in Orr will unlock a random hero.
( this will give high level players a new reason to come back in starter race specific zones)

I think this will bring a bit of variation of what type of heroes will be unlocked by players. Some can end up with a hero team of humans others with a hero norn team, while others will a mixed one

3) Heroes, as in GW1, will need skills but except the weapon skills which will be already unlocked for them – remember they are already lvl 80 – all the other skills need to be bought with the skill points as the character’s skills

4) Heroes will not be used in the current sPvP or WvW but they can open the path for new type of PvP modes

5) The number of heroes to unlock is big: 4 of each race in explorable = 20 of them.

6) There can be an achievement for collecting all heroes. Unlocking all heroes for the account will be done either through multiple characters or at every 20 levels on one character. The player will need to take note how many levels he has over lvl 80 and in what zone he needs to be for unlocking it.

7) They can also add a specific hero to be unlocked through each story mode dungeon

If you don’t like the heroes or you think they will ruin the game, please read again what are the mechanics and don’t be just haters. If there are some issues I haven’t addressed yet, point them out and try to think how you can reshape the original suggestion so those issues can be solved

One time events are cool. They should always have these like once per month. If people think other things are more important then fine, you miss it, but don’t mess up with the people who think this is more important and clear up their schedule for attending to it.
You can take a few hours off from work, you can do all the shopping before or after, you can kitten your girl at a different hour, you cna spend one night without sleeping, etc. So don’t come up with stupid RL events excuses because unless they happen as an accident, they can all be rescheduled.

Its like you say to the meteors to strike the Earth in your free time so you can see it live on TV.

Largos must be a new race

I rather have a mixed winged race similar to Harpies & Largos. Largos don’t have such a good design on themselves.

Floating, hovering and “close to land” flying will bring a new feel to the gameplay both visually and mechanically, something the other races don’t have

Tengus and Kodans, don’t bring new things to the game: Tengus are similar to the Norn’s Raven form and Kodans are similar to the Norn’s Bear form.
Adding profession skills to them won’t make the gameplay feel much different then it is now.

New races!

A new race will add a new city and all the level range zones 1-15, 15-25, etc. This can only be done though major expansion, most certainly a paid expansion.

To add a new race it has to bring new style to the game. Already some exiting races have been suggested: Tengus, Kodan, Largos.

What do these races bring to the game to make it different then what we already have?
- Tengus are a bird type of race which most certainly won’t fly. So how are they much different then Charrs or a Sylvaris? They pretty much resemble the raven form of the Norns
- Kodans are a bear race. Aren’t they similar to Norns?
- Largos are a winged race.
Although their design might not be very well thought, the principle is right. They are a floating/hovering/flying race. They will bring a new type of gameplay to the game both visually and mechanically

So for me, a race similar to Largos but with a better design is a better choice than Tengus or Kodans.

GW2 is not meant to be addictive.

You play it until you feel it has ended for you, then you let it be for a while and later when a new content is added you come back and continue. The no monthly fee is the best for this reason. Its a feature that very few to none games have.

If you don’t have other game to play or other better things to do in RL, then you can enjoy the world of GW2 as it is with new characters or with the old one, going in different zones and play together with the new players developing your achievements/titles in the same time. or just chat with people in different zone chat channels.

I don’t understand why people feel forced to play the game. I think the amount of content you have got for a $60 game is more than enough compared to other PC games.

Home Servers are only good for WvW. So let them stay there. I DONT care what is my home server in PvE. This idea is great. They should open as many clones of the same zone as the limit of players / zone is reached.
Lets say Orr has 1 million players there will be X clones of the zone, If Queensdale has 10.000 player there will be Y clones.

This system will be similar to GW1 districts and will not affect the HOME server.

PvE players DONT need to be separated by some stupid servers because they ARE NOT fighting against eachother for land control

I agree with this. Most MMOs have an auto-consume feature for consumables. The hero panel slot will be just perfect. It will automatically recognize the foods/boosts in your inventory and equip them in the respective slot.

This is only A-Nets innovative way of introducing new zones to the game.
Its rather nice to have this than just a client picture update update with a “Lost Shore” tag on it.
Don’t worry guys,m you won’t miss something really important. The new content will be available afterwards too. This wont be like the Mag King’s dungeon of Halloween.
