No, I don’t think engis get kicked or are not wanted. A good engi is a great asset to any team. And you use the smoke bomb/invis the same way you would to stack might. To stack might, you’d drop your bomb that’s a fire field, and then have all your blast finishers (or a lot of them) go off on top of it. You do the same thing with your smoke bomb to do the group invisibility.

Some people WP in a couple of minutes before the FE pops. So if you come into the map in time for the FE, but not early enough to get into the early Steam Ogre pop, then you lose out. That shouldn’t be the case. If a guild wants to purposely ruin the Boss Train simply because they can, then players should be allowed to report them for griefing, and then there should be punishments.

While I don’t think OP is necessarily completely right (if they’re really that bored during the pre-events, they could participate in said pre-events, for example), I have to call BS on this. Not one single person in this game is required to wait for permission to do an event. No one should be forced to wait to do something because of the people who didn’t show up to the event in time. I also wouldn’t call what the OP’s guild does “griefing”. They have every right to use the key when they want to. They’re not breaking any rules or keeping other players (those who are actually in the zone, that is) from participating.

But they are preventing players who WP in for the FE kill, from doing the Steam Ogre in the proper order.

If there was no lock on the Steam Ogre respawn, then there’d be no issues. But there is. And the OP admits to not caring about what the other players on the map think. That is griefing.

It’s not OP’s (or anyone’s) responsibility to wait for every single straggler to zone in. If you’re late, you’re late. What he’s doing by itself isn’t griefing. Griefing != “something that goes against what my personal schedule is used to”.

Edit: That being said, just as the other players can suck it up and easily handle Steam Ogre happening during the pre-events, the guild could easily find a way to give themselves time to do Steam Ogre after the event (it takes a whopping 60 seconds, at the most, to get your loot, run to the center, put in the key, kill the champ, loot the chest, and waypoint to your next map).

Pushy Guild Representation - Right or Wrong?

Interesting views. I’m loath to leave a guild once I’ve joined. Leads to guild hopping. Which I don’t disdain. I just don’t have the energy to spare for it. Been there. Done that. Own the t-shirt shop. But my stance stays. Demanding 100% rep is invasive and rude. I didn’t join your guild(s) with my ACCOUNT. I joined with my CHARACTER. You don’t like it, bite me.

I think of it differently from you. If I were playing WoW, for example, I obviously join a guild based on my character(s) because guilds are character-based. However, that’s not the case in GW2. When you join a guild in GW2, your entire account joins. When you create a new character, you’ll start off not repping that guild, but it will be in your list of guilds when you look at the Guild Panel. So, yes, you DID join the guild with your account due to how the game’s guild system is set up.

That doesn’t mean you have to stick to one guild if you don’t want to, obviously.

I doubt it’s the ‘bug’ or a glitch you guys are mentioning. In LA they would walk and line up from the little cave at the end of the “queue”. They also started circling the Mystic Forge. In Divinity’s Reach one was placed in the middle of a circle.
If someone would be using the bug we would’ve seen him place the golemns, but they just appeared or WALKED in from behind the scenes. Also i doubt its possible to place the golemns that specifically if you are just spamming a skill
I think this is most likely a fellow player messing with us. ^^

If you would read the posts more carefully, it’s already been said (a few times) that it is a player or players doing this by using a glitch/bug with the toy golem summon. The golem is placed in a set location based on your character’s location, so it’s easy to place them in specific places.

I did read the previous posts, what I am trying to say is that: There was no sign of the player placing them, so it can’t be someone spamming the skill. I saw how they appeared on multiple occasions.
I think it is more likely that someone is just using the template/3D Model of these golemns and placing them via a program or something of the sort.

Well, I saw it personally, first-hand, in a few places yesterday. Now, I didn’t see the massive conga line of them that someone posted; that one could be someone just messing with photo manipulation. But it is very possible to create the golem, have the model persist in the world, and then create another (especially if you have multiple people doing it, since the cooldown is a bit long).

Edit: Plus, now there’s video of it. :p

One time I was literally the only person doing the pre-events for Shadow Behemoth. I did the one at Phiney and the one at the monastery before heading over to the one at Tamin Foothills. There was one person at Tamin Foothills as I got there, but he died as I ran up to him and waypointed (and never came back) before I could get him up. No one else was there (or had been at the other ones). So, instead of immediately finishing, I just chose to kite the mobs around for a few minutes. Finally, the lone commander (who had been standing where the zerg is for quite some time) asked why SB hadn’t spawned yet. About a minute later, another person showed up at Tamin, and then I finished the pre with said person.

Changing the character model limit helps more than changing the quality when it comes to big events, I find.

The side effect, at least for me, is that the character model limit replaces people by name tags. And the name tags themselves are ugly :P From a purely practical point of view, that is probably superior, you’re right. But from an aesthetic point of view, I prefer reducing character model quality – the placeholders are not badly done textures, they just all look the same.

I also have name tags turned off, which also helps a lot.

There’s no ascended tier because there are other ascended back items already available to be crafted. The craftable back items introduced with the NPE stuff were meant to be for those who aren’t level 80 (hence why the top tier of those back pieces is 78 and not 80).

There are also already portable crafting stations. You can buy http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Guild_Weapon_Stations and http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Guild_Armor_Stations

If you’re just doing PvE, you can join any server. PvE and PvP’s lobby are on a megaserver system that pulls players from multiple servers onto the same instances of maps. If, however, you’re wanting to do WvW, your server choice does matter. Unfortunately, the most populated servers also tend to be the ones that are Full (and, thus, unable to join most of the time).

Gifting the Living Story

You can check in-game at the Currency Exchange part of the Trading Post. If you click on “Custom Exchange” at the bottom, it’ll let you put in how many gems you’d want to buy (200 or 300, whichever the price is for the living story eps each), and it’d show you how much that would cost at that time. You could send that amount in gold to your friend.

Gem cards are gift cards you can buy online or in certain stores (my local Walmart and Best Buy carry them, but some GameStops and Targets also carry them) that have gem amounts pre-loaded onto them. The person who gets the card scratches off the back to reveal a code that they’ll enter into the Gem Store in-game.

In that example, no, you wouldn’t be able to do it. You can only do that for weapns in your offhand slot. For example, you could have axe/mace in one set, and then switch to sword/mace for your second set without having to add a second mace.

You can also do it for mainhand weapons. For example, swapping from mace/axe to mace/sword.

Yes. I meant to clarify that better, lol.

Basically, spectral flames seem to pop up in random places in Blazeridge Steppes. This is the only zone I’ve noticed this in. It’s pretty irritating because it just happened to me at a little outpost. I was standing next to a vendor, and then a spectral flame appears and knocks me down. Another one appears right next to it, and that one then knocked me down. About 20 seconds later, two more appeared, followed by an additional two about ten seconds after that. It’s quite annoying.

yes because it’s not like people kick every single necro from dungeon parties or anything. The GW2 meta is just as toxic, actually it probably is even more toxic. Kicking people on last boss and classes like necro.

You’re right, it’s NOT like people kicke very single necro from dungeon parties. Yes, necros will often be either kicked or asked to change to another toon if they try to join a high level fractal, maybe. But I’ve been kicked from a party maybe twice on my necro (my main). If you’re a good player and (most importantly) easy to get along with, odds are you won’t get kicked.

Pushy Guild Representation - Right or Wrong?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: RoseofGilead.8907

RoseofGilead.8907

If a guild requires instant and 100% rep they had better return instant and 100% assistance. If I need help with a quest, a jump puzzle, a POI in WvW they had better be there instantly to give that help otherwise that 100% rep is not being returned in kind.

A guild asking for 100% rep doesn’t mean they’re suddenly your very own set of henchmen. Sometimes people will have their own things they need to do, or they may be AFK.

You need gold to make gold. So no, not all of it.
But most of my gold, yea, I did that.

You only need gold to make gold if you play the trading post. Regular players dont need gold to make gold.

You need at least some gold to waypoint around the world to quickly make gold. Obviously it’s free to get to LA, the major cities, Fort Trinity (once you finish story), and the starting zones. But beyond that, you’d have to either waypoint or waste a lot of time running.

Plus, you’d need gold to sell any good drops you got while playing.

Lets say you spent all your gold for eternity you can walk for free to plains of ashford, do an ascalon catacombs full run and have 5g again. Thats plenty to waypoint again and post the regular drops and stuff on TP.

Yup, you can definitely do that.

Pushy Guild Representation - Right or Wrong?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: RoseofGilead.8907

RoseofGilead.8907

If it’s a guild that’s still just starting, I can completely agree with asking for at least 90% representation. They need merits to build things, and they get merits when their members rep while they’re doing events and things. It benefits the guild, letting them build upgrades that benefit the members.

But obviously not everyone has to like that policy, and they’re welcome to not join guilds who ask for that or to leave those guilds, especially if the leaders are rude about it. But yeah, guilds in GW2 are different than guilds in games like WoW; your account joins a guild, not just a character.

You can indeed party up for story missions and let both people accept credit to move onto the next step. Just make sure you’re both on the same story steps. If you want to do the entire PS run together, you’ll need to make sure you choose the exact same options during character select (outside of your class and appearance, of course). For example: if you both choose humans, you’d need to choose to be from the same background (commoner, noble, or street rat or whatever) and both choose the same regret (dead sister, unknown parents, or missed opportunity).

The only “receipt” you receive for buying items on the gem store is the list on the right hand side of the gem store tab. It shows a list of your most recent purchases. But, again, CS would be able to see what you bought. You may have to provide screenshots or something to show proof of an item being missing, and you’d have to prove your ownership of the account as such to CS.

As I said before, this isn’t GW1 or any other traditional MMO. There is no “trinity” in this game. There are no strict healers, tanks, or damage classes. Every class has heals and condition removals they can use on themselves, and some have heals they can use on others as well as themselves. Every class can do sustainable, good damage. Every class can survive, provided they know how to avoid getting hit over and over again.

People pick classes based on what they like, I think. Using warrior as an example: Most of the time, people will pick a warrior for damage because that’s what they’re best at, really. But there are some people who run warrior shout builds that help heal and cleanse their allies (these builds are usually avoided in pve, though). In the case of ele, there are some people in GW2 who set their eles up as support/healing, but there are others who set them up to be pure dps. People play what they want to play because it appeals to them, either in the archetypes of the classes or the gameplay or any other reason.

I, personally, have at least one of every class because I wanted to try them all.

No, there’s not really any nuker profession. Every class can do high damage, given the right circumstances, traits, weapons, armor, etc. I think the classes considered to be the highest DPS (with optimal gear and traits) would be ele, engi, thief, and warrior. But a guardian set up for damage and DPS can do great damage, as can necros, mesmers, and rangers.

This game isn’t GW1, and you’re not going to find combat situations where you can play similarly to GW1 classes. You also can’t expect to be able to stand in one place all the time in GW2 fights. Even if you opt for ranged attacks only, you’ll still have to be moving and actively avoiding attacks with dodges and such. Eles have tons of combo fields and finishers, as well as high damage aoes. Staff channels pretty slowly, but it’s not always going to be the best option for every situation. Sometimes dagger/dagger may be much better. Or dagger/focus. Or sometimes a scepter might be good.

So yeah, maybe try ele again without the old MMO/GW1 way of thinking. See how you like its playstyle once you mess around with all the weapon combos and attunements and such.
