I understand they did this because of the gold seller spam.
However, it’s also suppressing Commanders in WvW and making it difficult for them to keep everyone organized.
Everyone I know already plays GW2. Those who I knew from playing WoW are still playing it because they specifically want to be a healer or tank and specifically wanted to do progression raiding. So there was no sense in asking them if they wanted an invite.
None of your options work for me.
I do WvW the most but I also enjoy PvE content. That said, I haven’t done the Fractals dungeon yet because I’ve been busy doing other stuff. But I do plan on doing them. Not because I feel forced to but because my guildies are saying that it is a really fun dungeon to do.
It doesn’t affect PvE at all so this change most likely was for WvW.
Considering that damaging AoE and buffs/boons only hit 5 people, the healing change makes sense. It was probably not intended to to unlimited healing.
I will be glad when the people who have stopped playing this game move on to another game’s forums.
I’ve found the easiest way to get the Lifetime Survivor is to just sit in town and level up crafting until you get it.
From what I understand, warriors have a larger base health than guardians do. I usually do dungeons on my warrior that is traited for banner healing. I run around with a hammer and shotgun. I usually don’t die in a dungeon unless I do something stupid.
However, there really are no tanking classes because there is no reliable way to hold threat. We don’t have any taunts of any kind. You can rush in there and smack them but they may run past you to smack down someone else for whatever reason. That’s partly one reason why I ran the hammer build.. I can at least interrupt them and hopefully protect my friends that way.
You may not like Quaggan, but Quaggan likes you… and he thinks you have nice teeth.
I’m still getting dye drops.
I don’t believe you can get a refund on gems once you’ve already used them to make purchases. However, if you have any leftover gems, you may be able to get a refund for those.
I really enjoyed the event and killing all those karka. It was crazy at times and at a few points when there were karka everywhere I would lag for a bit. But the rewards received at the end were worth it. Sad to say I did not get a precurser although someone in my guild did I think.
I do feel bad for the players who were disconnected at the end and unable to get the rewards. And also for those who were unable to log in at all due to some problem with Anet’s log in server. Those folks have the legitimate right to complain and I hope that Anet can compensate them soon.
I wasn’t expecting ascended gear. But when I saw there were Legendary weapons and Legendary pvp armor, I fully expected them to add Legendary PvE armor into the mix. I guess I was the only one that was expecting that to happen.
This is a problem that needs to be addressed. It’s the same problem people are currently having with getting groups together to do story mode dungeons after the rewards nerf.
Many people are unwilling to do content that doesn’t provide a direct benefit for them. It’s the “what’s in it for me” attitude that makes getting groups at low levels difficult.
Does it affect everyone? I was told that Time warp only affects 5 people.
As with Orr, group up. You’ll find the experience a lot more fun that way.
Some might say the mesmer portal bomb.
Others might say those darn thieves and their spinning daggers of doom.
I was wondering when/if the bots would start coming back. I haven’t seen any of them yet on Tarnished Coast. I did get 1 mail the other day from a gold seller telling me he loved me.
Pants: obtain the survivor achievement through crafting ^.^
On topic: On one of my characters, the first piece of armor that breaks is the back. It is a rare item and the rest is all exotic, not counting the breathing mask. But it is the first to break every single time for her. (had that backwards heh)
On my mesmer, who is in all rare items, the first item to break every single time is the pants.
Maybe it is random per character?

The problem with easily obtained max stat gear is that once people obtain it shortly after hitting level 80 they complain that there is no endgame content and nothing to do. Then they leave.
There is a difference between want and need. You can complete all the current content excluding fractals with Exotics. You don’t “need” the ascended items to complete them. But having the stat increase would make it easier and therefore more desirable to have them. At this point it still remains the only thing you “need” Ascended armor for is the infusion to mitigate agony.
@Rpgtabbycat: Yes you do if you want to be able to stay at the most competative level in PvP. Which makes it a must for every WvW player, even if they hate PvE.
Why did they not introduce the ascendant parts in WvW so WvWers could get them? That would be fair and give everyone 2 options to obtain them. Then have WvW specific infusions and fractal infusions, obtained from their respective field of use.
Tada, simple solution and fix.
I could see that for Tier1 and Tier 2 WvW. But Tier 3 and below is not as competitive and have many players that are not even level 80 yet.
In a way, the manifesto is still correct. You don’t need Ascended gear unless you plan to do Fractals past level 10. So you can still see and do the Fractals content up to that point . If you want to continue to progress, at that point you would need to get the available ascended items. Therefore, you don’t need Ascended gear to experience every element of the game. There is no gear treadmill. There is simply an optional Fractals progression and corresponding armor items.
But because these items are better than exotic, people feel they will be forced to grind them to remain competitive with those people who wanted to do the fractals content and have already obtained them.
I just wanted to edit and add that ArenaNet could have avoided this entire fiasco by simply making the new Ascended items have the same stats as regular gear but with Infusion and better looking/more desirable skins. Thus players would have only been affected if they wanted to do Fractals and collect those armor skins. But by increasing the stats, for whatever reason the devs had for doing it, they opened a big can of worms.

Killed so many karka over the weekend event I got Karka slayer. O.o
It shouldn’t be too difficult to get the achievement.
I can understand that people are unhappy with the change and that the game is no longer fun for them. You’ve given your feedback.
But there are many of us who have chosen to remain in the game and those who are unhappy are turning the forums into a hostile environment for us. I worry it will get to the point where those of us who still want to play will be harassed by those who don’t.
There are ways around catas behind the gate. It’s annoying but if you were defending your own tower, you’d want to use the cata behind the door.
I think it’s really only the Tier1 and Tier 2 WvW servers that might want all their people at max level and in exotic/ascended/legendaries only. Tier 3 and below… well I can tell you on Tarnished Coast we have plenty of people who aren’t even max level yet and even max level people who aren’t fully geared in exotics. We do just fine.
The casual players don’t need the ascended armor unless they plan on grinding out the Fractals dungeons. And saying that people won’t run regular dungeons doesn’t make sense. People collected those armor pieces for the look of the skins or at least that was the original intention.
There will always be new people coming in to fractals. My guild has already said they will help run people through the lower levels (we are such an awesome guild!). If every guild takes this attitude, there will be no problems with people being left out. Unless of course, you aren’t in a guild. There really isn’t any reason to not be in a guild, though.
I think I must have been downed a dozen times during the whole event but amazingly I only died once when I fell down the hole (along with several others) when we were chasing the Ancient Karka around its nest.
A well fought battle that we all ended up victorious over the Ancient karka.
I had a lot of fun doing this event. I hope Anet plans to do more events like this in the future except perhaps not as one time only events. I feel sorry for all the players that had to miss out due to real life obligations.
I’ve said it before but it bears repeating. Most players quickly figure out which Commanders are worth following and which ones are not.
In true RP fashion this is what happened.
You guys poked our Garrison and took it. So Delia spoke with the Golem God. And the Golem God said “Thou shalt take FA Garrison” and it was so.
On a serious note though, TC never gave up. We just had a lot of fun doing the Lost Shores event. How could you miss out on a one time event?
After reading on these forums, the hard part for me now will be finding people to do Fractals lvl 1.
Edited to add: As a response to the above poster. We at TC have a slogan: For the Toast! What does Toast stand for? The Organization Against Server Transfers. We don’t mind people coming to TC if they plan on staying with us through thick and thin but we don’t encourage bandwagon players to join us.

I had a lot of fun doing this event. I want to give my thanks to the game developers who came up with this. And a lot of great rewards at the end. Thank you thank you thank you so much!
There was talk about mesmers using a blink exploit to climb the walls of bay. Perhaps someone on the opposite side can shed some light on this? This has been a really fun matchup and I’d hate to see it ruined with rumors of cheats and exploits.
I keep getting sidetracked. These are the things on my to do list:
1. Finish personal story
2. Finish exploration
3. Finish all dungeons/ paths
4. Play PvP
5. Finish all the jumping puzzles
6. Collect Legendaries
7. Collect various armor sets for the skins. Even with the new Legendary set, I still want the light armor set from TA for my mesmer.
8. Some day have enough gold to buy a commander tag for WvW. (This one is not a priority and may never be completed).
These guys hit hard. Definitely not a zone to solo run around in, unless maybe you are a plate class.
I agree. While the events in Lion’s Arch were lagging, I’m really liking the new Zone and especially the lack of Risen.
You can complete dungeons naked. People have.
You can run around WvW and fight and do stuff naked. People have.
Armor itself isn’t really a requirement to do stuff, except for the new Fractals dungeon. And only when you get to the point of needing to mitigate agony.
Some people are upset because they see the new Ascended armor as the first step down the slippery slope of gear progression and gated content. Which they didn’t want. At least that’s the only answer I’ve found so far that makes any sense.
So it seems the community is now split into two groups over the Ascended gear.
1. The group that either does not care or is excited about the new armor and is looking forward to obtaining.
2. The group that believes ANet is going back on their promise about no gear progression and are upset to the point that they will quit the game and possibly attempt to get a refund.
I wonder which group is larger. I am sure though that whichever group affects Anet’s bottom line the most is the one they will cater to. Unfortunately companies exist to make money.
At this point though, if they choose to change the Ascended armor they run the risk of alienating those who are happy about the new changes and don’t want to go back to horizontal progression.
So here’s another question and forgive me if it’s been asked as I don’t feel like wading through 198 pages of responses:
If this new Ascended gear could be achieved through all the current ways that Exotics are available (crafting, drops, karma, dungeons, forge) would you still be against them having the slightly greater stat increase?
I would like to see them include an options setting for those who are colorblind that would change the colors of certain affects in the game to help them out.
Great suggestion.
Possible simple solutions although I am not against the ascended gear.
Give the ascended gear the same stats as exotics but make the skins extremely desirable (i.e. the best looking gear available in the game). Alternatively, they could bump up the stats on existing exotics the same way that they plan to bump up the legendaries.
Leave in Infusion and Agony but make it so that crafting professions are able to make infusion upgrade slots that can be added to any current exotic/ legendary piece of armor/ trinket/ weapon. Also allow crafting professions to make infusions for those slots as well.
A heart felt apology to the community that has been upset over this probably would help with customer retention as well.
I played GW1. I read ANets manifesto and their discussion about how a game shouldn’t be about grind. I liked the fact that there were multiple ways to obtain armor in this game. But that’s not the main reason why I bought the game. I bought it because it looked like it would be fun to play. And it is.
I am not one of the people upset about the new Ascended gear. Why is that? Well, because I enjoy playing the game. To me this whole gear grind nonsense is not worth me quitting the game. I’d regret it far more if I did quit the game over it than if I didn’t. I personally believe that the people who are quitting the game over this are only hurting themselves if they truly enjoyed playing GW2 in the first place.
I’m not jumping on the bandwagon. I’m in it to play for the long haul no matter what happens. Because I enjoy playing the game. I have fun. And that’s the only thing that matters to me.
Or gag him at least. Maybe he’ll yell himself hoarse.
Every time someone clicks him he starts over again.
The big difference though is that mesmer izerkers can be destroyed very easily, thus the damage is interrupted, whearas the meteor shower cannot once it’s been cast.
I would imagine it’s to prevent griefing and possibly an attempt to curtail spying.
I just wanted to say thank you to YB and CD for a fun week of WvW. I hope that you guys had fun too.
Not entirely sure how TC will fare at the start of this next round. The new Lost Shores stuff looks mighty tempting so I don’t know if we will have as large a presence on the weekend as we normally would.
The honest answer is that it has been easier to take stuff from Crystal Desert on their home borderlands than it has been to take stuff from Yaks Bend. Yaks tend to fight harder and have more players on for a longer period of time. In a war of any kind it makes sense to take from the weakest enemy first before you move on to the stronger ones. Especially when the goal of the game is to make the most points in order to win.
But CD already knows this because they use our down time to their advantage to roll across our map when we don’t have a lot of players on. That doesn’t really bother us too much because we know that later on during our prime time we will take it all back and then take your stuff too.
I’m going back to the OP’s post to give my answer on what I think about the ascended gear.
The purpose of the gear, mainly is so that your armor is infused so that you will be able to mitigate the damage done by Agony in the new dungeon. However, since the dungeon slowly scales over time, you will be able to progress some through the dungeon before you even need ascended gear. And the new pieces (a ring and a back item) are supposed to drop in this dungeon. Makes sense to me.
I have read some concern from people that the ascended armor will make the dungeon armor sets obsolete. But the original intent of the dungeon armor sets was for cosmetic purposes, so how does the new armor make them obsolete?
People enjoyed collecting the Mad King items from Halloween. They will have fun slowly over time collecting the Ascended pieces as they are released. The stat differences are not that great, they don’t even have runes in them so that’s why the stats on them are slightly increased. The increased stats make up for the lack of a rune slot. And the infused slot is to help mitigate agony and whatever else they think we need to get through the new dungeon.
Everyone please calm down. Wait until after Lost Shores is released and you have spent the 3 days of the event participating it and trying it out for yourself before you form opinions about how awful this is. I know people don’t like change. But this may well end up being something truly fun for GW2. You won’t know until you try it.
