If the game thinks you didn’t complete it the first time around, you should get all the rewards for completion the second time around, I should think.
I rep the active guild I’m in except when I’m using the tiny little bank space I have on the guild I made ages ago when Influence was a thing.
I’m still salty they took away influence.
I didn’t play much with the PvP part of GW1 so I don’t have much opinion on it. You had Guild vs Guild or you had Faction vs Faction.
As for PvE, GW1 was mainly a co-op and not so much MMO. There was no open world, everything was instanced to your group.
GW2 is more of an open world MMO (although not completely open). Instead of having heroes and henchmen to fill out your party, you solo through most stuff and group up with other players for only part of the content.
I think of the two game, GW1 was still better. I know some will disagree with me on that, but I think everyone can agree the story cinematic was much better in Gw1.
Why do people spend a couple bucks on lotto tickets? You know you have a greater chance of getting struck by lightening twice than you do of winning the lotto. This is sort of Anets version of the lotto, except it costs more and you get less.
I have a pretty decent stack of Black Lion chests sitting in my bank and that is pretty much all they will ever do. 99.9% of what’s in them is junk and it is not worth spending money on keys hoping to get the elusive .1% of stuff I want. If I get a free key from something I will unlock one knowing full well it will contain useless junk.
Guild Wars 1 open areas were built for groups. With the exception of Pre-searing, you couldn’t run around solo with a low level character and survive. Your characters were made to work in a group. The group could either be made up of other players or of henchmen and later heroes.
Since Guild Wars 2 doesn’t really have that problem, there’s no reason for heroes and henchmen. Unless ANet decides to add in a bunch of open world areas that require groups to complete, I don’t see them adding heroes and henchies to the game.
Personally, I’d love to play with heroes and henchies but I think it would make the current open world content too easy and defeat the purpose of an MMO for dungeons, fractals and raids.
I currently have 2 GW1 accounts but only 1 GW2 account. Can I buy a second GW2 account to link to my other GW1 account or is it frowned upon to own more than one GW2 game?
Are we allowed to link more than one GW1 account to a single GW2 account?
I find it rather amusing myself that my Elementalist can cast a volcano under the feet of the bad guy and they will just stand there until they die.
I think it would eventually get very frustrating and tedious if mobs dodged, parried and blocked all your attacks. Can you imagine having to fight through a group like that just to complete a heart objective where every enemy you fight takes five times longer to kill because they keep eluding your attacks? Yeah, that’s gonna get old real fast.
Those kinds of mechanics are best for something like a raid environment where you are better rewarded for your effort. I don’t want to spend 5 minutes killing some random bandit for him to only drop a broken lockpick.
I ended up going with Necromancer. I don’t have time for raiding so random fractals and dungeons are probably the closest I’ll get to “difficult” content.
I played a little bit after HoTs dropped and then stopped playing to play other games. I’m wanting to return but trying to figure out what my best choice would be.
I’m contemplating Necromancer.
I’d like a durable caster that I can solo PvE content with but will also be welcome for group content. I’m not big on PvP but I might dip my toes in the water every so often for map completions and the like.
I’ve read Necromancer is a good choice for this. Would that be the best fit for what I’m trying to do or is there another Profession that would work better?
Let’s just say I was a teenager during the decade of big hair and legwarmers.
My generation is probably at least partially responsible for the hole in the ozone layer.
I think raids are fine to have in MMOs. The problem is when they become the sole focus of playing the game. An MMO should have a good variety of things to do to keep players busy, entertained and having fun. But players should never feel forced to complete any content within a specified time constraint.
In other words, game developers should remember that variety is the spice of life and it’s not a good idea to put all your eggs in one basket.
I’ve wanted to play Tengu since Guild Wars 1.
I’ll be surprised if we ever get to.
No I don’t regret my purchase. I love playing the Revenant.
I still say, for what you get, the best value was the pre-order of the $99 one (collectors or something?). 2 character slots and $50 worth of gems brings the price of the xpac down to reasonable.
How is someone supposed to show anyone how to fight a battle if they can’t participate in it because their skills are disabled? This seems counterproductive. Or perhaps OP just doesn’t understand what Mentors do.
I don’t know if GW2 has the best community but I can agree, based on personal experience, that it does have a better community than WoW. But WoW also has one of the worst communities so most MMOs are going to have a better community.
ANet is secretly turning you all into Vampires… just like Edward!
I have yet to see this in game. Does this only happen in the new zone or everywhere in game once you have the Pact Commander Mastery?
Everywhere, a good place to see it is out in Malchor’s leap at the Cypress trees. But maybe only those with the Autoloot perk can see it….
I don’t have the perk yet. I will have to pay attention to higher level players looting stuff next time I play to see if I notice any of them sparkling.

My favorite staff skill is #5. The issue with it is you have to line up with the mob perfectly or it doesn’t work. You pretty much have to be on top of whatever you are attacking to have it work well. And you are out of luck if they are up against a wall or at the edge of a precipice.
Leveling with Ventari is easy. Equip staff, smack the stuffing out of things and keep your healing tablet with you. If you run in a mix of healing and power it works well. I will say the personal stories have been easy. My Revenant is at 28 I think or maybe 29.
The thing I like about Revenant is you can pretty much match it to your playstyle. You can run Shiro and act like an Assassin. You can run Ventari and act like a Monk. You can run Jalis Hammer and act like a Warrior. You can run Mallyx and act like the old school Mesmer combined with a Necromancer. And of course, when you get Glint, you can run around with Mace and Shield and be a Paladin.

I think most people who are undercutting by a large amount want to sell their item quickly but think the price offered by the buyers is too low. So they want a price somewhere between and are happy with that. At least that is my thinking when I do it.
Maybe they undercut by 1 copper just to annoy the previous seller.
People do that.
Most likely thought they are doing it because they believe it will make their item sell faster. It is still a gamble though because the next guy may undercut you by a copper.
We now have glider thingies. That’s sort of like mounts. Right?
It’s about time we got to ride those Centaurs.
Me: “why can’t you go faster, you stupid centaur?”
Centaur: snorts “Maybe if you weren’t such a burden, two legs”
Not sure what I think on this, TBH. Used to players could set up one person guilds and then buy influence for gold from vendors to upgrade their guilds. It would not surprise me if some people spent money on gems to convert to gold for the sole purpose of purchasing influence to upgrade their guilds. So now Anet is out that money that was potentially spent on gems. Plus those people are annoyed with the way that Anet changed things and refused to buy the expansion based on principle.
It seems to me that ArenaNet is losing money on that deal.
I know some of the people who are upset are the ones that didn’t buy HoT. They saw the regular game content rewards nerfed and feel like ANet is trying to force them into buying the expansion by putting all the stuff they used to get behind a paywall.
At least the bags stack for the most part. It could be worse.
I bet he’s catching up on sleep.
So after playing my Revenant to 21 (or is it 22?) levels I finally figured out that the weapons match the Legendary Stances.
Hammer goes with Jalis
Staff goes with Ventari
Sword main and off hand goes with Shiro
Mace and Axe goes with Mallyx.
Obviously Shield goes with Glint although I don’t know if you are supposed to use Sword or Mace with it. I’m guessing sword though.
This explains why I felt like Mallyx was so weak when using it with the hammer. I’ve read that mallyx has issues but I am thinking using the right weapon with the right stance should make a big difference.
Yeah, I’m sure you guys figured this out long ago during beta. But I am a Revanant newbie. I thought I’d share this in case there were other Revenant newbies out there that haven’t figured it out yet.
And haha for Anet for turning my non swear word into Kitten. Perhaps I should’ve used Dingbat or will that get translated into kitten too? You may never know what I really said!

With all the new MMOs constantly being released, people that burn through content are gonna burn through it no matter what so they can get to the next big shiny thing.
I think I read somewhere 11/2 but I am not certain on that.
At this point, people are probably spamming the mentor tags just because they know it annoys the people with commander tags.
I think miniatures get locked when there are too many of them in a zone (such as Lion’s Arch, for example). Try going out somewhere where hardly anyone is (if you can find such an area) and see if you are able to use it there.
If you don’t have a goal to work towards, the game gets boring.
I haven’t crashed yet (knock on wood) but I also have not been playing in the new maps or the new content (except my Revenant).
Are these crashes just happening in the new zones?
I see the pay wall arising.
I see F.2.P on the way.
I see exploiting and grinding.
I see those bad times today. So don’t log in tonight
It’s bound to charge or grind
There’s a paywall on the rise.-Rasputina
Holy wow that was fantastic!
Yeah pretty neat rendition of Bad Moon Rising. I enjoyed it. In fact, if anyone hasn’t listened to the CCR song, you should because then you’ll read that to the tune of the song and it will be more enjoyable.
On topic, they don’t charge sub, so they have to make money some way. The majority of games seem to have gone the cash shop route with only a few holdouts.
Well, Reaper IS stronger but just because Necromancers sucks.
Do not worry. Anet will get around to nerfing it soon enough.
I think most fans of GW1 expected GW2 to be a continuation/ improvement upon the first game.
We ended up with something completely different.
I’m still disappointed about that. Sadly GW2 isn’t as good as GW1 was and I’m not entirely sure what ANet can do to fix that.
Excellent news. Now I don’t have to stress out about what to do when my Revenant hits level 80.
Personally I think Commander tags should only be used in PvP (WvW) and Mentor tags should only be used in PvE. Disable the use of Commander tags in PvE and Mentor tags in PvP. That would clear up most of the confusion between the two right there.
Guild Wars has always been grindy. Whether you were playing GW1 and grinding out achievements or playing GW2 and grinding for materials and loot (diminishing returns!) or grinding out these experience points to progress.
People are just upset cause they thought they could buy the expansion and have instant access to the new stuff and now they find they have to work for it.
Instead of levels, you now have experience points or Hero points, or whatever they are calling it.
Personally, I would’ve preferred levels.
I don’t want a refund. No one can take away my Revenant!
I play a human female Rev and I have to agree the staff animations are one of the big things that make playing Revenants so much fun.
I have the hammer as my 2nd weapon set for the range abilities.
It’s just so crazy. What you’d expect to be melee and range are the complete opposites with Revs.
Updated note: The wardrobe costumes don’t affect the glow. It is less noticeable but still there. I noticed it while doing some crafting. I’m not sure why it wasn’t showing up the first time I equipped the costume. Could have been some sort of graphics glitch.
I do not know if this is a bug or if it is intended, but I find it really strange that my human female Revenant likes to say “May Lyssa confound you.” a lot. She never says anything else. Just that. And sometimes not even in combat.
Playing the Revenant – 10
Playing the new zone – N/A
I’m not there yet. I’m one of those crazy people that chose to level a new character the old fashioned way.
My character stood at the bank and I was blinded by all the flashes from people using consumables to level up their characters as quickly as possible.
You can get an outfit from the store. Mine is wearing one (Ancestral) and her hands do not glow. I don’t have an answer if you are wanting your armor to show, though. Sorry.
I’m running a healing based hammer/staff build in Wvw.
I can stand in the back shooting hammers while I send the healing tablet out to the front of the zerg and then pull it back 2 seconds later. People in the path are getting healed for about 1650 (I could push it higher with more healing power and outgoing healing traits.) There’s also a burst heal, cleanse, or knockback every few seconds, passive regeneration, and the basic passive tablet healing. It is a lot of healing. Or I can turn on the shield and block projectiles and create a light field. All around very useful.
Sometimes circling around people with the staff while repositioning the tablet is a bit awkward, but if the enemy isn’t moving much, you can create a lot of healing in a small area around your target.
Centaur runes give mobilitythat helps to pick up tablet fragments and staff healing orbs, while also giving perma swiftness when getting around.
I’m enjoying it.
Fantastic. This is what I was hoping to hear.
